EltonJ
I'm building a Dragon/Spellcaster deck. And I could use some advice to put it all together. First of all a little history. When Yugi-Oh came out, I purchased the four first starter decks -- Yugi Moto's, Seto Kaiba's, Pegasus', and Joey's decks. Then my brother deluge me with a lot of expansion sets and after a few duels I sort of lost the reason why I should be playing, and retired from dueling. Now I'm interested in dueling again. For fun. I'm planning on purchasing a Dark Magician Girl tin, and if I can't, a Black Rose Dragon tin (I might pick up a Yugi-Oh 5ds starter deck too). Also, my girlfriend is a collector and is sending me lots of dragon cards to make up the lack I have in dragons (I have a lot of spellcasters). She is also sending me "Neo-Spacian Aqua Dolphin", "Elemental Hero Neos," and "Elemental Hero Aqua Neos." The purpose of building a Dragon/Spellcaster deck is because I have a lot of Spellcasters and more dragons than any other type (although Warrior is running third). I'd like a little unpredictability so I'm adding the three cards above. Purpose: To have the dragons and spellcasters work together in some strong way. My deck has the following monsters: Normal Monster Cards:Blue Eyes White Dragon x1Red Eyes Black Dragon x1Dark Magician x1Koumori Dragon x1Aqua Madoor x1Sorcerer of the Doomed x1Winged Dragon, Guardian of the Fortress #1Ryu-Ran x1Curse of Dragon x1Baby Dragon x1 Effect Monsters:Lord of Dragons x1White Magical Hat x2Witch of the Black Forest x1 (yes, I know it's banned)Magician of Faith x1 (also banned)Magical Merchant x1Magical Scientist x1Time Wizard x1 Extra Deck:Flame Swordsman x1Thousand Dragon x1 Spell Cards:The flute of summoning dragon x1Reasoning x1Dark Hole x1Remove Trap x1Mystical Space Typhoon x1Polymerization x1 (which, after reading the deck building guide, I found out it's not the best for polymerization)Monster Reborn x1Mountain x1Book of Secret Arts x1Dragon Treasure x1 Trap Cards:Castle Walls x1Type Zero Magic Crusher x1Zero Gravity x1Sakuretsu Armor x1The Eye of Truth x1Ring of Destruction x1Robbin' Goblin x1Altar for Tribute x1Reinforcements x1 Weaknesses I think are both on the monster side and the Spell Card side. I want to dump Ryu-Ran and Curse of Dragon, most definitely; because I want to replace them with low level dragons. But I'd like spellcard suggestions so that there would be some cohesion. Note I don't want to build a pure Spellcaster deck or a pure Dragon deck. But I'd like to build a combination of both and plan my Magic Card selection to work off their strengths and cover some weaknesses. Come to think of it, I might need some help with my trap cards too. :)

Nyarlathotep
there can be. he just has to do it right. He mostly needs a few low level dragons/spellcasters as tribute fodder to summon bigger dragons/spellcasters. you need to get flame swordsmans fusion material or drop him, Maybe put buster blader and emblem of the dragon slayer in, or Dark Sage. go to yugioh.wikia.com and search deck types. they may have some tips. Try Armed dragon, or DAD/HAD.http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/Dragon check this for lists of dragon deck types. its hard to synch these two types, so work at it. Nyarlathotep
Yes. I suggested Buster Blade, because mix him with Mist body and with the boost he gets from every dragon in the deck, he is practically unstopable. I would have said Dark Paladin but he has enough trouble and I don't want to make it harder for him. I have seen Buster Blader/Dark Paladin along with Mist Body in many Dragon decks. It's a simple tactic and throws most people off when you throw out a Monster designed to take down Dragons. I have seen the Buster Blader/Mist Body tactic take down 4 of the 5 5D's dragons, along with Five Headed Dragon.

I'll find a good combination. there is no synergy between spellcasters and dragons stop it. There can be. It may take a couple of tries. Besides, why so completely pessimistic? I haven't even chosen what to put in my sidedeck yet. :) By studying the decks on the Yugi-Oh! Wikia, I think there were some problems with a themed deck. A deck designed completely around one theme can be countered by a player that knows this deck. Take the Dragon strengths and weaknesses, for instance. A good dragon deck can be countered by a Buster Blader+Mist Body combo. So, it can be done, synchronizing them together. Just takes some good advice and some practice. Legend Zero
You don't understand, a good player will never used Buster Blader...its a bad card. With the speed of deck now days if you don't use a themed deck you will be ripped apart by anyone with a themed deck. Trust us, there have been a lot of people just like you who say the same things but realize that we who have been here longer DO understand the competitive side of the game. btw don't listen to Nyarlathotep, he has no clue what he's talking about. Tronta, Chaos41, and jabber are top notch deck builders and players.
jabber2033
If you like Dragons, look at my Hopeless Dragons guide in my signature. That'll help you build a proper dragon deck. If you like Spellcasters more, try Skilless Village, Tempest Burn, or Endymion decks. BUT DO NOT MIX SPELLCASTERS AND DRAGONS!!! Just don't. There are so many cards that support both types that you'll never get a deck with good synergy.
The ReBeL
If you want spell casters and dragons.use the flamvell firedogs and magicians(spellcaster) and then add dragons Monsters:20Flamvell Firedog x3Flamvell Magician x3Masked Dragon x3UFO Turtle x3Armed Dragon Lv 3 x2Armed Dragon Lv 5 x2Armed Dragon Lv 7 x2 This maybe just let jabber help u

Perhaps it is, but then, just because you say it's "impossible" doesn't mean it makes it so. There is no such thing as "impossible" only "improbable." There is a way to make them work together, I know it. Other than that, it may take losses to make one. Trial and error, you know. But I'll come up with a winning combination. Just need to find the right mix. Yugi-Oh is two parts chess, and 3 parts poker. True, the two types have a lot of support cards. But telling me it's impossible isn't going to stop me. There is a way to combine them into a successful combination. Even if there are 98 dragon/spellcaster combinations that won't work. :)

Bringerofcake
There probably is some way that the two can co-exist. However, the fact remains that there is no bridge card, no card that takes advantage of the Dragon's high ATK beatsticking combined with the abuse of Spell Counters that Spellcasters carry with them. You are essentially running two decks in here, and that's bad not just in Yugioh, but in chess and poker as well. Would a good poker player really consider focusing on trying to get two good hands, or one game-winning hand? That's the same logic that goes into here. Until that bridge card is created, Dragons and Spellcasters will mix as well as oil and water.

Eibon1307
of all the posts on this I think 3 people are the only ones who care enough to realize that this is possible with time and patience. Nyarlathotep, Daedalus, and the thread poster. The rest of you are stupid and should have just ignored this post. Tronta, you need to shut up and think, "Does EltonJ care about COMPETITIVE PLAY?" Maybe he is doing this for fun. Maybe he just wants to play and if you win some you lose some. WHO CARES!!!! ITS A DaRN GAME FOR GOODNESS SAKE!!!! If he wants to play a Spellcaster/dragon deck, let him. Let him play it til his hearts content!!!! You people need to loosen up, have an imagination, AND JUST PLAY THE GAME!!!! I am semi-anti meta. I play OLD CARDS!!!!! I still run what you would call crap cards like Fenrir and Gaia Soul the Combustible. I don't play to be Suoer Duelist, I play to have fun and meet new people with the sae hobby as me. Lay off him. And do not, I repeat, DO NOT EVER TALK BAD ABOUT A MEMBER LIKE NYARLATHOTEP LIKE THAT EVER AGAIN!!!! Or you will be reported for poot conduct!!! He may be new, but he is a member none the less. A tip of the hat to your failed attempt at being the moral voice of the deck section, complete with spelling errors. This deck section is to help make people's decks competitive, which is why crappy decks get advice like "buy 3 Machina Mayhem Structure Decks." If we just ignored this thread because we disagree with TC's idea, he would never receive help. You can be competitive as heck and still have a lot of fun. I don't get why people refuse to see that. I've been wanting to build a QuickdrawDandy deck in WC11 BECAUSE it looks like fun. Nobody's talking bad about EltonJ (well, I'm not.) We're disagreeing with him, which is allowed. Ever thought that mixing the best gameplay styles of Spellcasters and Dragons doesn't sound good? Spell Counters/ Secret Village mixed with Hopeless Dragon? Yuck. Not everything can work if you want it to. Heroes don't work with Neo-Spacians for example. @EltonJ: If you want to keep trial and erroring this bad idea, then you REALLY need a strong concept in mind... Guys you can Play Spellcasters and Dragon in Frost and Flame Dragon Deck...and is fairly Consistent Post it. It'll give TC a base to work from if he wants to continue to try Dragon/Spellcasters.
