The start of my first fan-fic. By the way, when reading the story, C.H.C. is the city: Checker Hub City.

[align=center][spoiler=Prologue]The sound of water resonated through the cave. A robed man walked through. He ran his fingers over a wall of the cave. A layer of dust fell from it and revealed a symbol, carved in the wall. The figure itself was rather faint, its outline was not too recognizable. But when the man touched it, his body radiated with purple energy. Sinister laughter echoed.

~ ~

In C.H.C, several students were enrolling in a large, grand tournament. This tournament, known as C.H.C. Harmonia, attracted many strong duelists every year.

Within one building in which people were in qualifying rounds, Adam Tanaka was in the midst of a duel. The duel had just started.

The elite, who were the opponents in the qualifying rounds, in a bright orange tracksuit, started.

“Okay, I summon my Drill Synchron.”

The small machine appeared on the field.

“Then I activate Rebound! from my hand. With it, I must return every card I control to the bottom of my Deck but I get to draw 1 card and reveal it to you.”

The card was a Quick-Play Spell Card named Metal Torpedo.

“I play two face-downs and end my turn.”

Adam drew.

“I activate Lure in Deep Waters. With it, you can Special Summon a Level 3 or lower monster from your Deck.”

At this, the elite laughed.

“Why would you do that? Anyway, I’ll re-summon my Drill Synchron in Defense Position.” And with that, the strange machine appeared once more.

“That’s because I didn’t tell you the other side to it. As long as Lure in Deep Waters is in the graveyard, its effect is negated and has its ATK and DEF decreased to 0. But also it gives me the requirements to Special Summon my Deep Cyber Dragon.”

At the very moment, another machine came to the field in a flurry of bubbles. It had resemblance to Cyber Dragon.

Deep Cyber Dragon | ATK 2000 | DEF 1800

“Since I Special Summoned my dragon like so, I can destroy one of your Spell or Traps. So I choose to destroy that one.”

Adam pointed at the face-down on the elite’s left and Deep Cyber Dragon primed a laser. The card shattered from the impact.

“I now activate the the Field Spell, Deep Umi.”

At activation, the whole field became densely packed with coral and most significantly, submerged underwater. The two could breathe under the water as it was just a spell.

“By increasing the Level of a monster in my hand by 1 permanently, we now both show each other’s hand. If the total Level of the monsters in my hand is lower than the Level of the monsters in your hand, I can choose 1 of 2 effects to activate - either letting one of my monsters attack twice or destroying a Spell or Trap Card on the field.”

In the elite’s hand, there were 3 cards, 2 of which were monsters. Their total Level was 5. In Adam’s hand, 3 cards too. The only monster had a Level of 2, but now 3 with Deep Umi’s effect.

“As I seem to have the advantage, I choose to let Deep Cyber Dragon attack twice. Attack, Deep Cyber Dragon, with Laser Aquus! The laser first pierced through the lone Drill Synchron, then hit the elite duelist amongst some coral. He went back in a cloud of tropical-coloured coral.

Elite: 2000 Hand: 3

Adam: 4000 Hand: 3

“I think I’ll place a face-down and end my turn.”

“Hmm, not bad. But now it’s heating up! I activate Metal Torpedo. With it, I can destroy face-down you control. If it’s a Spell card however, I take 900 points of damage. But it’s unlikely that you Set a Spell Card.”

Adam smiled discreetly.

A rather large missile appeared on the field. One of Adam’s face-downs were destroyed as it exploded into it. The face-down was a spell card. The missile just as it exploded gave off shrapnel and hit the elite quite violently.

Elite: 1100 Hand: 3

Adam: 4000 Hand: 3

“I’m guessing you’ll be wanting to end your turn in a minute then,” Adam said.

“Yes, I will after I Set this one monster.”

A card appeared face-down on the field.

“Okay, my turn. Let’s just quickly finish this.” Adam drew.

“I summon my Deep Sea Diva and use it for a Synchro Summon!”

Deep Cyber Dragon became 5 glowing stars and Deep Sea Diva became two gear-like green rings. As they bonded, the outline of a creature appeared.

“Synchro Summon, Ocean Spirit, Aquos!”

A monster made of swirling water appeared on the field. As the field was water itself, it seemed just like dark ripples.

Ocean Spirit, Aquos | ATK 1900 | 2300

“By removing from play in my graveyard a monster with more ATK than this card and discarding 2 cards from my hand, it can attack directly.”

The powerful duelist looked rather anxious now.

“Attack with Concentrated Hydration!”

A blast of bubbles rushed towards the elite, over the face-down monster and the field suddenly turned back into a building. The various duelists who had finished their duels were watching and applauding.

Elite: 0 Hand: 2

Adam: 4000 Hand: 2

With this, Adam received the glory of getting through to the next rounds.

But within the audience was a robed figure, who seemed to be keeping an eye on Adam...

[spoiler=The Cards]

Some are written, some are made. All will be made eventually.

[spoiler=Deep Cyber Dragon]

You can Special Summon this monster from your hand if your opponent controls at least 2 cards, including at least 1 Effect Monster. If you Special Summoned this monster in this way, you can destroy 1 Spell or Trap Card on the field.

1 WATER Tuner + 1 or more non-Tuner monsters

By removing from play 1 monster in your Graveyard with an ATK higher than this monster's ATK and discarding 2 cards from your hand, this monster can attack directly during your next Battle Phase. During your End Phase, change this card to face-down Defense Position.

[spoiler=Metal Torpedo]

muei4n.jpg

You can destroy 1 Spell or Trap Card on the field. If it was a Spell Card, take 900 damage. If you controlled the destroyed card, draw 1 card.

[spoiler=Deep Umi]

This card's name is treated as "Umi". Once per turn, place 1 Deep Counter on this card. If a WATER monster or this card would be destroyed, you can remove 3 Deep Counters from the field instead. Once per turn, you can increase the Level of a monster in your hand by 1 (permanently). If you do, both players must reveal their hands. If the total Level of the monsters in your hand is lower than the total Level of the monsters in your opponent's hand, activate 1 of the following effects:

•Select 1 monster you control. It can attack twice during your next Battle Phase.

•You can destroy 1 Spell or Trap Card on the field.

[spoiler=Bios]

Adam Tanaka

Appearance: Dark brown hair, quite tall. Brown eyes.

Personality: Rather a geek, intelligent but enjoys a bit of humour.

[spoiler=Comments]

I wanted something slightly different for the prologue. I made it slightly longer than normal and added less description. The idea was to keep people on their toes and to reveal partially the plot.

[spoiler=Chapter 1, A Cinder in an Ocean]

Adam was walking in C.H.C. Park, pondering over tactics for the next rounds of the tournament. A small boy, about 5 or 6, was crying on a bench with his mum hushing him, a vanilla ice-cream cone was on the floor.

What can I do with this?, he thought while holding a fish-like monster card.

Adam sighed. He realized the slim chances of him getting through to later rounds. A cool summer breeze blew on his face. The moist grass in the park waved in rhythm to the gentle wind.

Just then, a delicate hand appeared on his shoulder. As Adam looked round, a girl was there. She had blonde hair and looked about the same age and height as him. She had bright blue eyes. Adam noticed this quickly despite the failing light.

“Hi,” she said. She was talking as if she had known Adam for a long time.

“Um, hi. And you are?” Adam asked.

“Alice. Alice Saito.”

Alice sat down beside Adam and helped with his deck. By now, a golden sunset was setting just behind the distant sea-line, like a cinder in an ocean. In the light, Adam’s dark-brown hair almost fused into the air. His brown eyes also were quite faded amongst the sunset.

“Look, I do have something for you,” said Alice, while slipping a slim card into Adam’s hand.

Alice then left, Adam now lone in the park. Everyone was returning to their homes so Adam did the same.

On the way back from the park, Adam decided to have a look at the card Alice gave him. He rummaged in the pockets of his jeans and found the card. Both sides were of the image of the back of one Yu-Gi-Oh! card. Adam was irritated and started fiddling with the double-backed card. After about ten minutes of fiddling, the backs separated and Adam realized they were two cards, stuck together. There was a Spell and a Synchro, the Spell card was a Field Spell.

Why would I need another Field Spell, I’ve got one already. Hmm, I’ll try it out for now, see what happens.

The Synchro was a card Adam had meaning to get for a while now: Ocean King, Aquix.

How did she know what deck I played?

Adam was rather surprised but left it out of his mind for now. He looked at the Field Spell, ‘The Deeper Regions’, upon closer inspection, he realized it worked hand-in-hand with ‘Deep Umi’.

The whole city was strangely tranquil. For a city, it had a very quiet nightlife. Adam never questioned it for he never noticed.

“Sir, I’ve completed my mission. The boy may be a danger,” an invisible figure said in near-pitch darkness. The voice ringed in the silence of the location. It was a dark and icy voice.

“Then we must keep him away. Do not tell him of our purposes. If he doesn’t know, our plan may work. The Discord will eventually awake with the energy of the Eight Chaoses.” This voice was much more commanding. It seemed to come from above but it was hard to tell in the darkness. “And what of the cave?”

“The First Chaos is now fully awakened. The Second Chaos’s location will be revealed soon.”

[spoiler=Cards]As no cards have been fully revealed, this section is empty.

Personality: Shy and reserved. Kind and caring.

[spoiler=Comments]

Although this isn't the most interesting or longest of chapters, Alice comes into the story, whose role will be revealed later. The most important thing is the conversation at the end of the chapter. It's good for clearing up and also adding questions. From it, there are plenty of un-answered questions but I think it's just about comprehendible.

for starters, change *drawed* to *drew*. Second.... yea more detail man more detail... I'm reading this and all I know is there's a big tournament going on and you're discribing one of the duels... honestly I expect more than that in a chapter. Like who is your main character you are introducing? what's he like? Does he have any friends who support him? What's his background (Unless you're keeping tha from us untll later in the story)? You know; be more elaborate about who he is and express his personality.

I'm keeping that in mind. I wanted a different feel for the prologue, the proper description etc. seems to begin in Chapter 1.
