And no-one claims the sprites as their own. We are not taking the sprites and claiming them as our own. We are using them as an artistic base. We edit them and claim the result as our own artistic work. The person who's sprites you used specifically said that he did not want people to use his sprites.

Nintendo doesn't not want people splicing with the sprites. If that was the case they would have already put a stop to it. Splicing has been around for years, and its actually a very popular art form on the internet. There's no way Nintendo and gamefreak don't know about it. Its no youtube, sites like this. There have been dozens of sites exclusively dedicated to splicing in the past. If Nintendo and Gamefreak were truly opposed to it theres no way they would have not made it clear and put an end to it.

Ok, so they wouldn't just put an end to it, of course it doesn't work that way. but the point was that if they were opposed they would make that clear. People have been apparently breaking the copyright, but they have not shown any feelings against it.

Ok, so there are many things wrong with this here. Ok, so maybee you didn't directly steal them, but if your friend dave gave them to you, you should have looked into it first. The deviantart page from the person who made then specifically says that he doesn't want them used. Secondly the second half of your argument is against splicing entirely. Which includes you. And we've already made it clear that there is a clear difference between spriting with official pokemon sprites, and sprites made by someone else who doesn't want them used

Call up gamefreak and ask if they mind people using the sprites for splicing, not claiming them as their own, only providing more advertisement for their multimillion(billion?) dollar industry

I Apologise for this argument filling up the thread. I'm not arguing for the sake of an argument. I just want justice for watertrainer. The simple fact of the matter is that Neries used sprites that the artist did not want used. And he's in the wrong. That is all. Ok, I think I'm done. However it works out, whatever. Find a mod if you have to to get confirmation on whatever. I'm just gunna go back to spriting with just the official sprites, posting them here for c&c
