We "raise" them. You give others "rare candies" to level them, and they may give them back to you. you can buy some, and they just show your pokemon level.

I was really more wondering then actually looking for people to battle with. Also how do you level up your pokemon besides Rare Candies? And how do you get Rare Candies besides contests?

RARE CANDIES=In this club, you have an unlimited amount. HOWEVER, you cannot give some to yourself. you get some to LV up your pokemon. To instantly LV up yous, there's a thrift shop to get them. They will also show how popular and powerful you are in pokemon battles
