Honestly, the formal roleplay is dead now

Despite many attempts at ressurection

It keeps burning down to the ashes...

I admit, I was the cause of some of the burning myself

But also, new mechanics, like Godmodding, however acceptable they may be, kinda discourages people from ya know, having as much fun as possible.

....

Probably not the best time to say this, but if we REALLY want the roleplay to be reborn, we're gonna have to start again.

That means revoking all the rules to encourage newcomers.

Then slowly, bit by bit, enforcing them until they become second nature.

The fact that there are real regulations (I can understand keeping it PG-13) ...kiiiinda denies the purpose of roleplaying which is having fun

The more rules, the more it becomes a chore.

Critical flaw with that plan

We tried that with the tags.

Didn't work.

I completely agree, in fact me and my confidant (a friend who's the best roleplayer from another web site) has stated more than once that YCM has too many rules and that to have Roleplay get reborn the way it was we'd need to do just what you said.

However I think Airspace, being the ONLY Roleplay Mod, would even think about doing that let alone acting on it.

As said prior, he tried it awhile ago, it didn't work.

You don't beat a dead horse.

People are lazy fucks, they do the barest minimum of work, the ones who don't are not discouraged by the advanced clause because anyone with any skill has either the ability to write a 4+ line post or wait and use OOC to make a scenario where one can use a 4+ line post.

So when yo do something like say, make a system where stupid people can do s*** rps what happens is that 90% of the rpers just rp in basic and never transition because you can't be special in advanced.

So when the rules are revoked everyone will either continue rping in advanced if they were already doing so, or posting the barest minumum.

Then when rules are "gradually" eased in, their will be b**** fests and flame wars and stupid clubs about how "elitist" said rules are.

And people will break the rules or not rp at all. And thus your back at square one.

You want to know why rps are failing?

It's something I call the Stock Crash effect.

See what happens is, much like the stock market during the Great Depression, people started to flood the RP section with mundane and cheap basic rps. This caused a big swelling of rps and stuff.

Then the rules happened and the backlash of a sudden restriction caused a backlash on the forum, people had to actually read the rules and rping became more complicated.

This was futher detained by a rising popularity in Clubs, where you can be a complete retard and no one can be half assed to tell you otherwise.

So rps started a brief low period. Eventually this would have balanced BUT we are also going through a population refreshment cycle meaning people are going "f*** this I am leaving" and thus people who where experinced in rps leave.

This made it more diffucult to rp people where pulling out of rps so rps themselves got weaker.

Then because the rps where weaker because so little people worked on it, MORE people decided to leave rps.

It's a cycle of moronity.

Greycat's After Dark Rp works wonderfully and he isn't even 4 Stars.

New people are not incapable of following advanced clause, I followed it just fine even before I knew what a advanced clause was.

What really keeps new people from rps is simply this: YOU AREN'T LOOKING FOR THEM.

There are a pretty big amount of rps in OOC, no one really joins them though because they aren't made by their friends.

But your equally unwilling to make your own rp because your rps are nothing anyone ever bothers joining.

However by switching to nexus your actually lowering the pool of potential rpers to join.

Meaning you pretty much d00med yourself.

I've posted several RPs. I'll get plenty of applicants, the issue being that no one ever posts in the IC thread.

I'm moving the RPs that require more than a little bit of Dedication to Nexus, while keeping my more lulz or freeform RPs here (which are few and far between).

I agree with one part Sugar Bags, many RPs, I've made plenty that are insightful albeit sometimes too ambitious. The issue is that the bar is set way to low when it comes to accepting people. I am a glorious dick when it comes to accepting, because I have a standard in RPs that people should put their all into apps. Sadly, my drive to RP is significantly weaker due to consistant death of RPs. Whilst I do make RPs to get the idea out of my head, I do want to see them succeed. Currently, I'm brewing a KH RP that could possibly either become an RP, or I could work it towards a Fic instead.

Well if you make it an RP let me know, I'm interested.

If Jake would hurry up with SoP II then I'd have another RP to join and have fun in.

Hey, hey, hey!

I am TRYING my hardest to freaking finish the first part and get Struggle of Powers II up >8O

I am actually in the process of writting the final post just to let you know, but I have to wait and have Andrew/Genisis check it out before I can continue finishing it.

Once I've finished writting that I can post it, get the thread closed, and have my new "development team" to begin working on SoP II. Believe me Creator I want to get the second half started as much as anyone else, because I believe it might usher in a new era of roleplaying, but that is because of my big ego XD , but there are things that I need to do first.

So, as I said with Shadow Zero, PLEASE BE PATIENT!
