Vanilla question

OK, please don't laugh. This may sound noobish, but I never understood this: Why do you guys hate vanillas? Is it because they are useless or something. I feel like doing a vanilla, but keep getting put off by the thought that people will bombard me insults. So, should I make one, or stick to effect ones?

In addition, make the lore have something real in the TCG come out. For instance, a card I made was "Infected by an epidemic that came from the Zombie World". You know what zombie gave him that plague, right?

 

That, and put support if you like. Then vanillas will be appriciated.

99% of vanillas would never be used. In the TCG, probably less than 10 of all existing vanillas would see serious use.

 

That isn't to say they can't be useful. The card "Elemental Hero Bird Thing", with 1800 ATK and being a Winged-Beast Level 4 vanilla. Is probably entirely usable. Why? It gets Elemental Hero support and can be tributed for Icarus Attack - that's enough to make it usable, but most vanillas don't even have that.

People tend to see them as an excuse to do as little work as possible. I say, if you can make the lore on the card interesting, the go ahead and make them.

I don't see anything wrong with it, but usually if you're making a card like that you should make it part of a set.

The idea of custom cards is to show originality. No effect means less originality. If you can make a vanilla with an excelent text and a very good name, pic and balanced stats, people will not insult or something like that...
