CinnamonStar
So yeah...discuss Eurovision from yesterday. The winner was Lena for Germany (who haven't won for a very long time xD) with this song: Of course it's like any world/continental event, lots of bias towards neighboor countries but I'm still watching it every year even though I don't plan to do it... So who was your pick?
Cloister
Thank you Opal for this. <3 Turkey was my favorite, no doubt.
CinnamonStar
I liked the entry from Turkey but just no, song was great but it's nothing for Eurovision. Eurovision is there to show more traditional songs from the countries, we already have Pop charts, Rock/Metal festivals and whatnot. Only reason why I think Turkey didn't deserve 2nd place. Anyone remember this? Too bad that the singer put up that Lady Gaga attire, she didn't stand out like the epic sax guy anyway.<
J-Max
After that tragedy part of my British Heritage has just died. Our country was terrible!
CinnamonStar
Hmm I agree that the British entries have been bad lately. But that's so sad because they have A LOT of good music there, it's just that they don't seem to put much effort into Eurovision. Similar with France and Spain, they're qualified anyway so it's not like it matters. But at least Germany was pretty good this way, last year they were really terrible.T_T

Cloister
It wasn't. The song ending 2nd in the Swedish contest was much better. I think it would have had a pretty big chance of ending 5th or better in the ESC.
Alexis Rhodes
France should have won
CinnamonStar
Tell me one country that entered with a traditional song. EDIT: Did anyone hear the Swedish song with Anna? Imo' date=' it sucked.[/quote'] lolIceland was traditional Eurovision music. Like when ABBA won.Ireland too, Romania, Poland, Russia, lol Greece...Even France was traditional Eurovision stuff because the genre is popular in France and become so thanks to immigrants. Don't remember the name though. Meh it just bugs me when people enter with something that sounds TOO pop charts or Rock-like. That's also why the UK failed IMO, they tried with a plain Pop song even though they could've done better. It was still a great song from Turkey but for a different contest maybe. Cloister
I think Turkey had a traditional schlager (is its called that in English?!?!) inspired song. But hats off to Lena, actually a pretty catchy song.

I've gotten a little fed up of Eurovision and tuned out after the 2nd song.
CinnamonStar
Well my favourite was this guy:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HExS9R2r-vA Everyone was like, wait Belgium is going to participate?0_o It's not like they've had many great positions in the past. And then I heard that the song ended on first place in the semi-finals and lots of people were saying we shouldn't underestimate him, it's a secret favourite. And in the end it was my favourite too.:D Ended up 6th only, but only 2 points after Azerbaijan. Heck, the Germans who won this year gave him maximum points and when the first few countries had voted he was even first or second...until the Russian confederation came.D: But even then, he got a fair load of points so I'm glad people don't only vote for their neighboors but listen to the music too. CinnamonStar
Yeah some entries tend to be...interesting.=) But seriously what's up with all the Lena hate on Youtube and everywhere? People are bickering because she's not Céline Dion, because her English isn't perfect but she's only 18 or something.D: Gawd I've been busy answering to hateful/borderline-stupid comments lately all over Youtube, I even saw Germans=nazi comments, what's up with that people?-.- I mean, it's true that the contest is political and people WILL vote a bit for their neighboor countries too. Would be kind of nasty to get no support at all from your neighboor right? But even then, this year shows that it's not ALL just about nationalism, Germany isn't in East Europe and it's not an ex-Russian country either (at least not all of it). People in Europe and beyond just liked the song, I don't see why some people are getting so stuck up that Germany can be good for once.D:They were so horrible last year...if you compare this to last year it's really a jump.-.-

CinnamonStar
I agree that it contains a lot of crap but at least it's the only doujin-like event we have on this part of the world... That's why I'm angry when they send out already-established world stars like Céline Dion or t.A.T.u, it should be for unknown singers really. Cloister
I kinda like her accent, Lena's. It's kinda cute. You know Helena Paparrizzo? She is very famous in Sweden, the song Number One, the winner song in 2005 I think it was, had been played on Swedish radio before she entered ESC with it.
