Βyakuya
This is a guide to make basic banners for all noobs out there. Below are the following steps using GIMP: To make a banner, I suggest using around 600-700 for the width, and around 200-300 for the height. Step 1:Find some pictures you want for the banner, and make sure its not too big or small Step 2:Find a cool background. You can find some using Google Images, DeviantArt, Imageshack, Photobucket, and more. Step 3:Make any adjustments to your blank banner if you want to before preparation Step 4:Apply Background, or pictures to your banner. Use the Move key to move them(NOTE: the order which you place the pictures is the order of the layers). To organize your layers, on the toolbox, is a tab next to the main tab which you are working. Next to it is a layer tab, and click on it. To organize layers, drag the layers in order as you like it. To anchor or attach a picture mainly to another layer to form a whole layer, when the cursor looks like an anchor, simply click on the background, and any other layers will be caught in the single layer(NOTE:DO NOT TO THIS UNLESS YOU WANT TO, BECAUSE IT WILL PERMANTENTLY, REGARDING THE UNDO, WILL ATTACH THEM TOGETHER). To add more fun stuff, use the blur tool on thick areas, and/or use the sharpen tool and its quality to fix it.then, add text to yours, and give it a little description. To make layers underneath each other appear as transparent, go to your layers bar and find opacity. Lower the level of opacity on a selected layer to make it transparent. The orders in this step can be used in any order. Step 5: When you are satisfied, save it as a gif file, and prefferably in your documents. Step 6:Go to your Imageshack, Photobucket, or whatever uploading site, and upload that image. Copy that link, then put it in your post, and VOILA! One BANNER! Here are some examples I made: Please comment, and if you are nice, add reps if you thought it was helpful:) Link to comment
