CinnamonStar
I think extremism is when Christians take everything from the bible by word, when Wiccans build women-only covens and won't let ANY man get into it, when Hinduists burn down a moschee, when Buddhists burn down Taoists books and destroy their temples, when New Age adherrents get beaten up by their parents because they ate meat once or don't listen to astrology anymore, when Asatrù Neopagans hang themselves on a tree and don't eat for days because Odin did it too. But it's also when Atheists keep blurting out anti-religious sayings (which is ok) while knowing nothing about religions, and not even about at least the major ones and major sub-categories of religions. Or when the Chinese government brutally tortures and hunts down adherrents of the Falun Gong movement. All types of extremism.
Dark
And the Pledge of Alliegence (payback XD), you can't reallly change that. They're not gonna change it over a couple of mad Aitheists. (I still can't spell it XD) They changed it over a couple of mad Christians. <_______<

[/understatement] Plus, you're grouping personal beliefs with people hurting and killing other people. Does it really annoy you that much that I believe some book that you will never half to read? CinnamonStar
[spoiler=Answer for adhdguitar, so everyone who doesn't care doesn't need to scroll down]First of all I'm not a dude.Secondly, I've dealt with the bible, including apocrypha and the Gnostic bible (study religions). Maybe I don't have as much of a waste knowledge like many Christians so if I get something wrong correct me.Third, I'm not an Atheist, in case you didn't notice.D: Meh I probably didn't express myself well, now that I re-read it. What I meant to say is that types of extremism can be broad and I used the Christian type first to get Dark's arguments down since he only seems to know about the most extremist, OMG types of Christianity. Even his sig is a big grouping that was only said by one old guy so it's nothing that represents Christianity as a whole. When I mean taking everything from the bible "by word" I mean like ignoring any metaphorical stuff and that some things are to be taken more symbolically than literally. I think that for instance that old chap in Dark's sig is an example of such an extremist since he does seem to take stuff from the bible way too literally and even adds some things (like homophobia) that have never been mentioned there. Others examples of Christian extremism would be the inquisition and all that jazz, or any examples of killing others in the name of god. THAT's taking certain parts of the bible too literally and putting extremism before humanism. Ok yes I'm grouping personal beliefs with people hurting and killing others only because Dark asked about what extremism is so I gave him examples, YES there are people who are extremists and use personal beliefs to hurt others, can't deny it, but NO these people are a minority and I'm aware of that. I'm aware that most people don't do that and that we don't live in the Middle-Ages anymore. Honestly if you've ever read a few of my posts in this forum, then you'd realize that all this time when I've been blurting into religion-based discussions, I've been trying to prove people like Dark that these extremist religious people who use their beliefs to suppress others, like the examples I used to just say what extremism is, are very rare and that for most people religious beliefs are personal. But then again that was only my view on extremism, where I think it starts, but of course others may have other views and that's fine. Oh and btw I've been trying to defend your point, ya know.>_> On-topic: I still like my science but not a blind science.
