Saiba Aisu
Hey there, everybody. I'd like to welcome you to my latest RP, which takes place within the Pokémon universe, as seen in the popular video game and anime franchise. Although there certainly isn’t any shortage of Pokémon RPs on this forum, I feel that I’ve established a truly refreshing storyline and environment here, and I’m hoping to find some enthusiastic participation. Sure, the Advanced Tag means you'll have to work a bit harder to be accepted, but I am determined to make this an enjoyable RP of the highest quality. NOTE: This RP Thread is to be used exclusively for planning and OoC comments regarding the Pokémon: Winds of Orlana RP, as well as for archival purposes.
NOTE: Please realize that this RP occurs within an alternate timeline of the Pokémon universe, meaning that certain anime-exclusive characters like Ash Ketchum, Gary Oak, etc. are not present here, if only for simplicity's sake. Although it is extremely helpful for potential applicants to possess some degree of familiarity with said environment, it is possible to participate without any prior knowledge, provided that you are familiar with the storyline and mechanics of the Pokémon games. Having said this, every effort will be made to make the RP progress smoothly. Please carefully read the information listed below, and take your first step into the dazzling new adventures, challenges, and Pokémon that await you within the depths of the Winds of Orlana universe!
It has now been more than sixty years since the sinister Team Galactic attempted to forcibly seize control of the Sinnoh Region and forge their new universe using the mystical powers of a mysterious legendary Pokémon. Soon after their failure, due mainly to the disappearance of their leader and growing suspicion from the police, the fanatical Pokémon syndicate was disbanded and scattered to the four winds with little to no chance of ever managing to regroup. In that time, much has happened in the world of Pokémon, with countless discoveries of entirely new species and unexplored regions being made with incredible regularity. Foremost of these is Orlana, a beautiful and newly-settled isolated island region that was explored less than a year after the Team Galactic incident in the Sinnoh region. Only a little exploration was needed to indicate that the region was home to a wide number of rare Pokémon who were to be found exclusively within the area, and commercial settlement designed to make the region suitable for human habitation soon followed. After a period that elapsed twenty years, the region was explored and adapted satisfactorily, although special care was taken in order to not upset the pristine and multi-layered environments that composed Orlana's ecosystem. In Orlana, mankind perfected what can only be classified as the lifestyle of the future—one that emphasizes cooperation with the natural environment and coexists peacefully with it, avoiding pollution in favor of cleaner energy systems and constructing cities and towns according to the region's natural landscape. The Orlana region is characterized by an incredible variety of ecosystems, combining lush deciduous forests with sparkling coasts, rugged mountains, and even an inactive volcano to form a breathtaking spectacle of highly diversified natural beauty. Similarly, the region is noted for the many recently-discovered species of Pokémon who make their homes there—unsurprisingly, for these reasons, Orlana was quickly populated by a mass exodus of natural researchers, scientists of all kinds, Pokémon Trainers and Breeders, and ordinary people who merely wished to lead their lives against the backdrop of such a beautiful and well-preserved environment. The Orlana region has something to offer everyone, regardless of whether their interests are battling or breeding new Pokémon, exploring its vast landscape, or studying its well-varied ecosystems, provided they have the courage and motivation to make the journey there. Yet not everything is as it seems in this supposed paradise, for even now, a new shadow is rising within the region of Orlana—cruel, jealous, and hungry to make its mark upon the world, no measure is too drastic to obtain the mystical power it so desperately desires. Although the shadow is still new-born and unperceived, it is cunning and patient, and with each passing day its sinister influence waxes—soon, it will be ready to spread its dark designs across all of Orlana, twisting the will of its inhabitants and sowing chaos and ruin across in its wake. Still, even against such a darkened horizon, a golden ray of hope endures so long as the people of Orlana have the will to confront and repulse this enemy. And as the land begins to slowly reflect the results of the growing darkness and cataclysmic events move apace, the mantle of responsibility falls upon the shoulders of Orlana's Pokémon Trainers, those brave warriors who will fight to protect their dreams and the ones they love.
You are an aspiring Pokémon Trainer in the Orlana Region, traveling the countryside in pursuit of your dreams with your loyal Pokémon—whether your goal is to become the next Pokémon League Champion, top Pokémon Coordinator, or merely to see and experience the many wonders and adventures that the region promises, you are endowed with a great destiny that is drawing ever closer, although you may not know it just yet. Although Orlana is a prosperous and beautiful country, populated largely by well-meaning and hard-working people, there are still many unseen dangers and challenges that will line the road ahead of you. Your journey will not be easy, but along the way you'll meet fellow Pokémon Trainers who have dreams and aspirations of their own. Whether you choose to befriend these individuals or antagonize them is entirely your own decision, but one thing is for certain: whatever the outcome of your travels, you will encounter obstacles and challenges that you could never have imagined—regardless of whether you triumph or fail, you will learn from these new experiences. Three of the player characters (that's you, by the way) will begin your journey by default in Ochre Village, where you'll proceed to receive one of three rare Pokémon from the local Pokémon Researcher, Professor Sycamore. These three characters will be determined entirely on a first-come, first-serve basis, provided that your application is acceptable and meets the RP's high standards in grammar, syntax, and spelling. While receiving such a distinctive and powerful Pokémon so early may initially seem like a good thing, you'll have to think carefully about making this decision in regards to the road ahead, where most of the other Pokémon Trainers (that's the rest of the player characters) will be starting off with up to two Pokémon in their party. You will be presented with a variety of challenges and individual objectives along your journey, which you can address more or less at your own pace. Regardless, the choice is yours, and you stand poised on the edge of a bright new future, where fame, fortune, and adventure beckon.

NOTE: The above map of the Orlana Region is the artistic property of Hallm3, and is reproduced here for exclusive use in this RP. You can use the above map for geographical reference as to where the many cities and areas of Orlana are located. Generally speaking, Orlana is characterized by rugged mountain ranges in the center that gradually give way to soft, rolling countryside that eventually smooths out and meets the sea. Although further details will be provided later, it's suffice to say that traversing the region would certainly take a while, especially since you'll be traveling on foot for the majority of your journey. You are free to pursue your own aspirations along your journey, but keep in mind that even the most loosely-structured RP requires some form of sequence, so don't expect to be able to head off to advanced areas at an early point in the RP. For the moment, the only areas that are of notable mention are Ochre Village and Peach Town, both located along the Orlana Region's southern peninsula. Ochre Village is this region's equivalent of Pallet Town—a pleasant and isolated settlement situated at the far end of the Ochre Woods. Unlike Pallet Town, however, Ochre Village is not home to a renowned Pokémon Researcher, meaning that you'll somehow have to brave the woods before you can meet Professor Sycamore. If you are one of the three Trainers who will eventually be receiving one of three rare starter Pokémon, you'll begin your journey in Ochre Village. In regards to the other player characters, you will be starting your journey in Peach Town (or another future area, depending upon when you join) as a rookie Pokémon Trainer with slightly more experience.
1. Don't God Mod. Doing so will result in one warning. Anytime after that warning will result in a ban from this RP, as determined by a GM. 2. Posts must contain some IC actions. Meaning no OoC only posts, unless you are a GM. 3. This is a high-action, engaging RP, and it requires that you post often. Failure to post for more than 5 days will result in expulsion from the RP unless a suitable reason is provided. 4. The RP will use third-person past-tense narrative. This is to avoid confusion and allow for greater character development and description. 5. If you feel that others are slowing the RP down or are creating problems for it, please feel free to contact the Game Masters (Saiba Aisu or Blazinghydra). However, keep in mind that we will have the final say regarding any such matters. 6. You cannot create more than one character at a time. Only Game Masters have this ability, unless specified otherwise. 7. Characters may of course share a hometown and Pokémon Affiliation, but try and differentiate your character from those of your fellow RPers in some manner. 8. Although this RP will feature several custom Pokémon, or "Fakemon", created by artistically talented fans, it is not a requirement to use them. If you are more comfortable using existing Pokémon, than you may do so. In regards to these Fakemon, they are used with the artist's permission and will generally follow their creator's design in terms of Type and battle strategy, although the GMs may make changes as needed. 9. You are NOT allowed to use Fakemon that are not on the list of accepted Fakemon (see the list below). If you find a Fakemon that you think is of high-quality and would be suitable to the RP, you are free to contact that Fakemon's creator for permission to use it in the RP. If you receive permission, you will then be able to submit that Fakemon for review by the GMs. If we find it acceptable, the submitted Fakemon may be included in the RP. 10. The RP will also feature a GM-controlled Exp / Level Up System under which each character will be able to improve the power and skill of his her or her Pokémon as the RP progresses. The system will govern when / how a Pokémon will level up, learn new skills, and even evolve into other forms. In addition, items will be manifested in a variety of ways, ranging between casual objects scattered across the land to rare, powerful tools obtainable only after completing certain challenges. 11. GM positions are currently unavailable. If a GM feels that you possess the skills, time, and dedication necessary to further the RP from an authoritative position, that GM may extend an invitation to you to also become a GM. 12. You may apply a maximum of three times in a row. For whatever reason, if your character is rejected each of those three times, you will be obliged to wait one business week ( approximately five days) before being able to apply again. Any applications posted or PMed during this five-day period will be politely disregarded. 13. All additional RP rules apply and will be enforced.
Here is a list of the custom-made Pokémon that will be viable options for any Trainers interested in using them. Remember, if you choose one of the three starters, you will be forced to start off your journey with only one Pokémon instead of two. Also, keep in mind that you can't have the same Pokémon as another player character, including pre-evolutions and evolutions, unless it's Eevee. It's on a first-come, first-serve basis, so make sure that your applications are excellent! If a Pokémon is listed as "TAKEN" in a spoiler, that means that it has already been accepted for use by another player character, and you cannot apply to use it in your party. NOTE: These custom-made Pokémon are the artistic and intellectual property of Hallm3, mssingno, Happytreefriends71, and G-FauxPokémon. They are reproduced here for exclusive use in this RP with their permission. These are the only custom Pokémon that are currently available for use in this RP. Self-explanatory] NAME: [Any name, as long as it's not something ridiculous. You must state your character's name even if it isn't known. In that case, you should also state an alias by which your character should be called] AGE: [Despite the charming and idealistic standard of having most Trainers receive their first Pokémon at the age of 10 and start their journeys soon afterward, it is highly unlikely that characters under the age of 16 would be able to handle the responsibility of traveling by themselves. However, there is no true upper limit to the age a character can be useful, although regardless of age, you will always start off as a rookie Pokémon Trainer. Keep in mind, though, that your physical capacity and appearance should correspond with your age and should be suited to the largely pedestrian form of travel you'll be using. Generally, age should be between 16-40 years old] GENDER: [Male or Female] APPEARANCE: - HEIGHT: [Nothing too extravagant, please.] - WEIGHT: [see above] - FIGURE: [For reference, pick one of the following: Atrophic, Petite, Slender, Regular, Athletic, Muscular, Overweight, Obese] - HAIR COLOR: [it has to be a plausible color, unless it's dyed, which is a common enough motif in the Pokémon anime and games, unfortunately. If your character does not have hair, fill in this section as N/A] - HAIR STYLE: [Can generally be whatever, so long as it's not ridiculous.] - EYE COLOR: [see hair color. No contact lenses, please; if you can participate in a Pokémon RP, you can certainly strech your imagination to provide your character with perfect eyesight.] - COMPLEXION: [Your skin tone. Within human limitations.] - CLOTHING: [Once more, self-explanatory. Your character can generally be dressed in any manner you please, provided that it's not too bizarre and does not interfere with your character's ability to perform necessary actions. If you are confused or uncertain, you can draw influence from the clothing style featured in the video games or anime.] POKéMON AFFILIATION: [The Pokémon Affiliation to which your character belongs. Although all of you are Trainers (battling is a necessary part of this RP, regardless of actual skill), some of you may have additional preferences, such as Pokémon Breeder or a Researcher of some kind. If you feel that I have overlooked a specific affiliation, you may contact me via PM and provide solid reasoning for why it should be included.] HOMETOWN: [Your character's hometown. Pretty self-explanatory. It is not necessary for your character to be a native of Orlana, so long as you can provide some acceptable explanation as to why he/she is currently traveling through the region.] STANDARD EQUIPMENT: [What equipment, if any, your character carries. Try and keep in mind that the RP takes place in the Pokémon universe, which is fairly contemporary, so keep it realistic. This should be restricted to standard Pokémon Trainer and traveler tools (i.e., Pokéballs, Poké Food, Potions, etc.), although certain other objects may be approved if your character is of more than one affiliation. Also, try and remember that your character will be starting off as a rookie Trainer, meaning that they won't have much selection to choose from.] MEANS OF TRANSPORTATION: [For the time being, this section should be filled as "Walking" by all participants, regardless of age or affiliation. This is due mainly to the fact that most Stage 1 Pokémon (the only kind available to you at this point; i.e., Bulbasaur, Pidgey, etc.) are not powerful or developed enough to carry a human as a form of transportation.] PERSONALITY: [A few words about how your character acts, thinks, what his mentality is, etc. It does not have to be aligned with the mentalities of most individuals of your affiliation, but he or she must at least have have a solid reason for their decisions. A few sentences are required as a minimum, but you can expand as much as you wish] BIOGRAPHY: [include the character's biography - who he originally was, where he lived, how he survived, his personal aspirations, dreams, and motivations, etc. Further research regarding the Pokémon universe may be necessary] LIST OF POKéMON: [Pretty self-explanatory. Merely a list of the Pokémon that your character owns; you are free to use appropriate nicknames if you wish. You CANNOT have any non-Stage 1 or Legendary Pokémon in your party at this point (i.e., Ivysaur, Pidgeot, Articuno, Entei, etc.). This section is DIFFERENT in that your lists will depend upon whether or not you are one of the player characters receiving your starter Pokémon. If you are one of those player characters, you will only have that one Pokémon. If you are a player character that is encountered later on, you may have up to two Pokémon in your party. You CANNOT have the same Pokémon as another player character, for obvious reasons (including pre-evolutions and evolutions). In order to help you keep up with which Pokémon have already selected by other RPers, a list will be posted above. ===
GAME Masters: The following members are the only ones capable of controlling the plot and NPCs as needed. • 1. Saiba Aisu • 2. Blazinghydra GM spots are currently NOT available. If the RP is successful, we will consider opening more spots for GMs to help out. ACCEPTED Player Characters: • 1. Lisa Raanad // Encapturer // Accepted. • 2. Daisuke Atamagaii // Shradow // Accepted. • 3. Cerce Ontarre // Saiba Aisu // Accepted. • 4. Joshua Taylor // Marsuvees Black // Accepted. • 5. Ralis Lovhang // ProtoMachineKing // Accepted. • 6. Nathaniel Sharpe // Zerato_AST // Accepted. • 7. Bahnes Cheston // Bringerofcake // Accepted. • 8. Jason West // Kuroda Naoki // Accepted. • 9. Robert Wesley // Tempest Dahlia // Accepted. • 10. Jayden Hunter // Jcbballer // Accepted. • 11. Nyoko Ochida // Otaku-sama // Accepted. • 12. Eri // Blazinghydra // Accepted. All applications should conform to the guidelines stated within the brackets. Under certain circumstances, exceptions may be allowed after being discussed with a GM via PM. Feel free to discuss your characters with a GM via PM before submitting them, although you must still post them here once done. Please do NOT post completed applications on this Thread; we are no longer accepting applications at this time. You may not begin RPing until your application has been accepted by a GM on this thread.
Saiba Aisu
The bridge has been destroyed at a point that is roughly 75% across from Peach Town, leaving a sizable gap that will prevent you from crossing to the other side. If you're on the bridge, be careful, because its stability is not the best right now. Since Azure City is currently inaccessible, your only option if you want to continue exploring the Orlana Region is to return to Peach Town. This means that characters like Nathaniel and Daisuke, who were standing on the bridge when the explosion took place, will need to carefully make their way to their starting point. Also, a new GM post for the Ochre Woods group is on the way.
Proto
Meh, nice idea to make use take the long way Saiby! Also it kinda gathers people together. So yeah, wonderin' what the bird came from now...... Also for later, may I reserve Seedot for later?
encapturer
Nice, a place we can plan plots, a thread to plot the path the plot that will be plotted by the RPers so the characters can have plots and the overarching plot.... ...just being a little silly there. Kinda excited that we have an OoC forum now. Seriously, though, as far as plots go for the Ochre Woods group, I'm not sure if Lisa should travel with the group or take her own path, which intersects with others often, the common one being with Josh and Jason. Not sure if the GMs will allow it, since it might be more work, though. Not sure if Lisa can bug the Peach Town trainers for battles all the time if she's with them all the time... Hydra of Ages
Just a general note here, I'll be the one dealing with most of the leveling up / move learning system. In a little while, I'll post an example of a technique and an upgrade sheet. When you need to use them in the actual RP, I'll be PMing you it. Saiba Aisu
Hm, I'm glad you guys are using this thread to its full capacity, but I'm not really considering future reservations at this time. It's difficult enough to try and construct a region with Pokemon who are located in areas that make sense without having to throw individual requests into the equation. Still, I promise you that I will do my best to work on this issue. Does anyone have any suggestions they would like to make for the RP's improvement or express any concerns they have with the way it is currently running? Guest Tainted Black
No, I'm just curious as to how the devil anyone other than Encapturer can truly reply to that post XD I'm joking. Though, I'm curious- Since no one took it, is Ralts reserved for me?
Saiba Aisu
Well, the plan is that Lisa offers Jason and Josh a quick choice from the backpack she's carrying that contains Professor Sycamore's Pokemon. You'll each get a choice of one of them and the Pokemon within will be indicated from the seals upon the Pokeballs (a leaf, a droplet of water, and a small flame). This encounter with Excavade qualifies as your first battle with a wild Pokemon, similar to Poochyena or Starly in R/S/E and D/P/Pt respectively, except much tougher. Also, we'll see - there may be a Psychic Pokemon event coming up in the near future, but it's certain that Ralts isn't to be found in the surrounding area naturally. Saiba Aisu
Yep, I hope that moveset helped you out a little. Kuroda, you'll get yours as soon as you select Squinky and release it. Anyways guys, I'm just posting here to tell you that I will be very busy tomorrow and won't be able to post much until late in the evening. Just hang in there and I'm sorry for the delay. =/
Zerato_AST
At the bridge, I'm unsure of what to do with Nathaniel - as far as I see it, I've got about three choices: -Stay and talk to Eri-Go and help Daisuke-Get off the bridge But I just can't decide between the three of those. I'm thinking of just attempting to get all three out of the way in a few posts. I'm just posting here to check with Blazinghydra and Shradow before I continue. Shradow
I'd like it if you helped me, but if no one does, I'll probably just do something like Munchlax comes out on his own like Ash's Pikachu and having him save me.
Hydra of Ages
Considering it's a rather tall bridge (I mean, just look at the map. that gorge...), I'm somewhat surprised one could still hear Daisuke if he's at the bottom. Especially since the crowd is being rather loud. Diving in would not be recommended unless someone likes having the wind blown out of them. I personally couldn't think of a logical way to have Eri, or even any of the beginning trainers save Daisuke. I mean, it's a rushing river connected to the ocean, swimming through it's rather impossible for anything not a water pokemon. And nobody here has a water pokemon capable of carrying a human's weight.

Hydra of Ages
Alright, so I've finished the example. Here's what you'll be getting for each of your pokemon whenever they gain a level- For every level you gain, you'll get at least one Experience Point, possibly more depending on several factors, but you should probably bet on only getting one. As your level increases, more Techniques and Modifications will become available, and current Techniques and Modifications will cost less Exp. Points.
Togepi Level Sheet Base Stats:Health: 35 Attack(Phys.): 20Defense(Phys.): 65Attack(Spec.): 40Defense(Spec.): 65Speed: 20 Abilities:Serene Grace: Attacks are preformed elegantly and with perfection, increasing the chance of additional effects.Hustle: Pokemon is exceptionally energetic, giving physical actions 50% more power, but causing them to become significantly less accurate. Level Information:Current Level: 5Current Experience Points: 0 Known Techniques Growl: Make an intimidating noise at the enemy, knocking them off their guard and disrupting and discouraging attack attempts. May be ineffective if the user does not adequately convince the opponent they are a threat. Charm: Act endearing to the opponent in a coy and defenseless way, attempting to convince them you are not a threat. May not be effective on enemies who lack morals or who are convinced the user is a threat.Tackle: Lunge forward with your body in an attempt to knock the opponent down. Available Techniques Metronome: Tap into an otherworldly force in order to gain temporary power and utilize a technique at random outside of the usual movepool. Cost: 1 Experience Point Sweet Kiss: Acts coy and flirtatious with the opponent, demanding a kiss or other physical token of affection while releasing endorphins in order to distort the opponent's chemical balances and send them into confusion. May be ineffective on members of the same gender or whom are not taken by surprise.Cost: 1 Experience Point Yawn: Give the opponent a tired look and yawn loudly, releasing specific pheromones and hypnotic suggestion that cause the opponent to tire rapidly. May not be effective on enemies in high emotional states or whom are not taken by surprise.Cost: 1 Experience Point Encore: Applaud and encourage the opponent, while releasing pheromones and hypnotic suggestion in order to force them to repeat the technique several times. May not be effective on enemies in high emotional states or whom are not taken by surprise.Cost: 1 Experience Point Follow Me: Tap into an otherworldly force in order to become a temporary energy magnet, while causing a diversion and attracting attention towards self, causing all techniques and focus to be upon the user for a short time. May not be effective on those with high mental resistance. Cost: 1 Experience Point Light Screen: Use psychic ability to bend rays of energy away from the user and allies, reflecting back some of the force of energy-based attacks.Cost: 2 Experience Points Reflect: Use psychic ability to physical particles away from the user and allies, cushioning some of the force of physical-based attacks.Cost: 2 Experience Points Safeguard: Tap into an otherworldly force in order to refresh the body consistantly, removing bodily defects aside from injuries and preventing status effects. Saiba Aisu
That looks pretty cool, Blazing, although you and I might need to get together to discuss some further movesets. Anyways guys, I'm posting because additional Fakemon have been added to the Orlana Region Pokédex. You can still check them out for reference if you want, in case you like any of them and want to start planning in advance.

Saiba Aisu
Haha, anyways, on a more serious note.. Let's try and decide this now. What are your character's motivations in moving across Orlana? For example, how many of you are interested in obtaining Gym Badges, participating in Pokemon Contests, participating in a Pokemon Race, Pokemon Breeding, that sort of thing... Obviously, not everyone can pursue the Gym Leader challenge because battles will get repetitive.
Hydra of Ages
A. The evolutions already exist.B. That's Cthulu. You forgot C. "Holy f*cking crap, that's Cthulu". Anyway, yeah, we have to do something about the gym challenges. Maybe multiple trainers could challenge the same gym leader at a time? (With the leader using multiple pokemon naturally). encapturer
Lisa will probably participate in only a few gym battles, since she wants to become a strong trainer, and uses gym matches as a measuring stick, rather than the goal of her training. She'll enjoy the Pokeathlon, if that ever happens. She'll probably end up exploring, looking for new challenges and strong trainers. As for the gyms, you could have route splits, where half the people go one way, and the other people go another, so that some of the gym leaders at least aren't that overwhelmed. Aesirson
Jason would probably be in some Gym Battles at least, since he wants to pursue his father's dreams. But his real goals are to become a Pokémon Breeder.
