Dark Counterpart Deck

Recommended Posts

I've been playing with this deck for a while, but feel that it could be improved. The deck focuses on the effects of the Dark Counterparts, primarily Zerato and DAD for monster destruction and Nephthys or Jinzo for S/T control. Dasher lets me Summon Dark Counterparts quickly and serves as additional targets for Grepher or Destiny Draw.

Monsters: 22

[2] Dark Nephthys

[2] Dark Creator

[3] Darklord Zerato

[1] Dark Armed Dragon

[1] Sky Scourge Norleras

[2] Dark Grepher

[2] Destiny Hero- Dasher

[2] Destiny Hero- Malicious

[2] Jinzo

[2] Mystic Tomato

[2] Phantom of Chaos

[1] Morphing Jar

Spells: 12

[3] Trade-In

[1] Heavy Storm

[1] Giant Trunade

[2] Book of Moon

[1] Destiny Draw

[1] Allure of Darkness

[1] Card Destruction

[1] Beginning of the End

[1] D.D.R- Different Dimension Reincarnation

Traps: 6

[2] Escape From the Dark Dimension

[1] Return From the Different Dimension

[1] Call of the Haunted

[1] Mirror Force

[1] Torrential Tribute

Advice/Constructive Criticism/Fixes wanted.

So...are DARK decks a new fad on YCM now?

Why EftDD? I don't much use for that much RFP revival.

Escape From the Dark Dimension is there because Dark Creator, Dark Nephthys, DAD, Phantom of Chaos, and Allure remove DARK Monsters from play. With the monsters I primarily use being beater-esque, it's an invaluable revival tool and very useful for spamming or swarming.

Yes, I've tested it using YVD, but the quality of my opponents/their decks is debatable.

Typically, I dump DARKs using Trade-In or Dark Grepher, then start exploiting their effects. Dark Nephthys helps with grave control by using its "Remove 2 DARKs in grave, discard this and Special Summon it next turn" effect, as well as being a target for Trade-In, and whenever it's Special Summoned by any means, it'll nuke an S/T, putting more pressure on the opponent. Darklord Zerato is summoned for 1 DARK tribute if I have 4+ DARKs, and for a DARK discard, it nukes all my opponent's monsters (but will self-destruct at the end phase). Dasher lets me summon the bigger monsters faster and lets me feel more secure about the Destiny Draw.

It's somewhat of a swarming beatdown deck with a lot of built in destruction. Jinzo is useful for neutralizing opponent traps, making Darklord Zerato even more devastating. Phantom of Chaos lets me use discarded Dark Creator/DAD/or Zerato effects, fuels my RFG zone for Escape/Return, and in a pinch can copy Jinzo to seal traps, too.

Necro Gardna= doesn't fit with theme, has no value while RFG.

Necroface= doesn't fit with theme, milling RFG is NOT what I'm aiming for.

Armageddon Knight= Dark Grepher does it better.

Return From Different=limited, and I have 3 Escape From Dark Dimensions already.

But Necroface doesn't help me swarm the field with the Dark Counterparts nor help fuel the grave to use their effects. If Necroface wasn't limited, I'd consider it maybe in a mill strategy, but it's out of place with this specific build, especially while at 1. Thanks for the suggestion, though.

In order to accept Necroface Return as a worthwhile strategy for this deck, I would need to focus more cards into its abuse and reusing it, possibly adding additional mill variables to prevent MYSELF from decking out first. It's not worth the hassle when I could continue following the deck concept I've already established. Necroface will not help me here because this deck focuses on beatdown, not mill. Sure, it could help me assemble some RFG monsters to use Return or Escape on, but the deck can provide plenty of that without removing potentially valuable cards I'd rather draw than lose to the RFG zone.

While it's an...interesting suggestion, I don't have a clue what Tele-DAD is (I assume it has to do with Emergency Teleport) or how it works. If I had some more elaboration, I could consider altering this deck a little to apply the concept, depending on the complexity of the strategy mentioned. As it is, I like the deck I made, I just want some advice or criticisms on how to improve it. Overhauling the deck entirely is not what I have in mind.

Any suggestions or elaboration?

Dark voltanis or Daylon the dark dragon lord

The deck doesn't run many counter traps to make either of them worthwhile. Voltanis only gets its destruction effect when Special Summoned by its effect, so Darklord Zerato is infinitely better in that regard, and outstrips Van'Dalgyon, who is only useful when a Counter Trap negated something.

Hmm...Darknight's not the worst idea. I consider that the deck has enough draw power, but with all that discarding, Darknight could get stronger, then remove a DARK for a draw, but at the same time, I just don't feel it would be worth it. Maybe I can test it a little bit...

I don't like Veil. I rather have the DARKs in my hand to use as ammo for Darklord or, in the case of bigger cards, Trade-In, than discard them for one more draw. It doesn't fit with the speed I want the deck to have, but again it's not the absolute worst idea and I could maybe try it out. Card Destruction is invaluable, in case I have a few dead cards, like Trade-In without a good target, or an excess of higher level monsters, like Dasher, Malicious, or one of the level 8s.

Any other opinions, suggestions?

OT: How many darks do you have in the graveyard usually? I almost want to suggest "The Beginning of the End" with all of the RFP summons... Btw, I would suggest finding room for D.D.R. (possiblely take out an Escape for 1) as it's faster than escape and has the added bonus of discarding, fueling basically every monster in your deck. Also, I almost want to see Norleras in here since you have PoC and plenty of ways to discard him.

I often find myself between 4-10 DARKs, so Beginning is definitely worth considering, at least for testing. DDR is a good idea, and I'll test it in exchange for an Escape.

Norleras...interesting. It's a Level 8 DARK, so it won't mess up my draw engine. Any suggestions of what to take out for it or Beginning?

Testing with Beginning of the End have proven it is more valuable than Pot of Avarice, and being a +2 is amazing with this deck's already formidable draw power.

Card Trooper, I'll consider. I prefer to draw over straight mill, but it does fuel my grave and could be another target for Tomato.
