Jeroukoo
Straube smiled and gave a quick salute to Jason. "Nice working with you, but I have to return to my post!" Jason smiled and nodded. Straube then turned to Christoph and gave a salute to him too and ran off. "Well wasn't he quite the solider?" Jason chuckled softly and saluted Christoph. "Well I'm off to my bunker. That fight was a little stressful, so I'm going to sit in my room for awhile." Jason headed in the direction of his bunker but stopped halfway. "And thanks, Christoph. Couldn't of killed them without you." Jason didn't even turn around and continued his walk to his bunker.
ThunderousSonar
OOC: I know, I just wanted to make him say that for comic effect, and he was like more of a relieved thing..... IC:When Cross heard all of those orders he suddenly straightened up, and he reassumed his position and began preparing himself for launch, and as they were going to launch him into the air, Cross was preparing as he manned his position, and for the first time in a long time, smiled a genuine smile at his brother in law, and he soon opened his mouth to say something. "Let's go brother." Cross said as he gave his brother a thumbs up, as in things on his side were ready.
Magnet Soldier
Dylan sighed. Everything was fine. Then he heard that the weapons were damaged and offline. "Sh*t. We're unarmed. Just what I need." He banged his desk, sending a pencil flying. It landed on the floor, and bounced slightly. "Huh?" Then Dylan remembered the vibrations. Engines created vibrations, that were distributed along deck. "I'm an idiot." He said, slapping himself in the face. He sighed and stood up. "I'm going to go check on the weapons systems." He announced. He sighed and strode towards the elevator. He pressed the button for the cannon room and was soon flying towards it.
Quiksilver
"And...liftoff!!!"Grayson suddenly slammed back into his seat, and the view outside of the window blurred. They were moving! The force created by the engines, unhampered by the fact there was no gravitational forces in space, was hard enough to slam Grayson, and the other Command officers back into their seats. However, decompression pumps hidden in the walls and floor quickly came into effect, and Grayson was no longer pressed against the seat. Woah, Grayson thought woozily, that sure was a heady experience. He turned to make sure the other officers were okay, and nodded to Cross. Wait a second...where was Smith? "Anyone see Sergeant Smith?" Grayson asked the port. "He said he was going out to check on the damaged weapons," one of the male officers replied. Grayson shook his head wearily, and then sat back down in his seat, turning it so he could face the rest of the deck. "Well, ladies and gentlemen," He said. "Looks like we've begun one of the greatest voyages in human history...or so our friend General Blacke says." Grayson cocked an eyebrow. A couple of chuckles rang out, but Grayson raised his hand to stop them. "So, then, men and women. It will take us approximately 32 years to reach Alpha Centauri AB. The first step of the journey will take us to the edge of solar system, which has already been traveled before, by probe. So, this route to the beginning will be computer-guided, and it will only be after that, when we are in uncharted waters, that your expertise will be needed. The option to induce cryo, a dreamless sleep for several months, is now available in your sleeping area. You do not have to do it, but I would recommend it. It's going to be a long journey, crew." ThunderousSonar
Cross was also slammed into his chair, and he soon relaxed when everything was back to normal. He smiled and looked for Smith also, but as soon as he heard he was fixing the weapons Cross had reason to relax again. Cross said, "That would be good if I could use cryo, but the question is, if something happens, we need at least a quarter of a crew awake while the rest of us are in cryo, so that the computer isn't all alone." Cross soon smiled, as the greatest quest of centuries of waiting was beginning and he was going with them also. Cross was smart, but he needed to clarify some things. So, he used his brains and went to go ask his brother who was the ranking official on this ship. "Bro, in cryo do we age? I don't wanna grow to be 40 or 50 when we get there and 80 and 90 when we get back." Cross asked.
Quiksilver
"No, we will not age." Grayson said, used to explaining the cryo process. "In any case, it will only be for a couple of months, since too much cryo will hurt you. You see, what cryo does is while also inducing sleep and pumping nutrients into your body, is it inserts a "freezing" chemical into your nervous system. This effects your genome, which is programmed to make you age. The chemical will stop this programming as long as it is constantly inserted in your system, i.e. as long as you are in cryo. The reason cryo is not used continually to stop aging is because too much cryo will mess up your genome for good, creating all kinds of things in your body, none of them good. Understand?" Grayson finished, looking at Cross.
ThunderousSonar
Cross had understood and during the explanation added various nodding and hms at the right places, and when he finally ended Cross soon smiled at his brother and he soon was happy, and he was deliberating in his mind for the ship. Cross asked, "If only a few of us are asleep, then some of us can manage the ship, and we can be switching shifts. But, the question is, who will be doing duty first, so that we can arrange for everything, and we can prepare in case of emergency." Cross was smart, and he was putting that smartness into this ship, and he gave a quite good suggestion to his boss. "Even if we have traveled this way before, we should do my plan, just to be prepared." Cross said to his brother.
Quiksilver
Grayson thought it over. "I guess that will be alright." He said. "We will have a skeleton crew keep watch, while the rest of us sleep. It does not really matter, since the computer will pull us out of cryo if anything does happen, but it's good to be cautious." He stood up and looked at the rest of the crew. "I will now go into cryo. Since you had the good idea, Cross, I am assigning you first watch. Select the officers you wish to keep awake, and in a couple of weeks, awaken me. I will take second watch." He proceeded to the hololift at the end of the Command port. ThunderousSonar
Cross soon moved to the captain's chair as he was put at the helm of the ship by his brother. Cross soon smiled, and he sat down as he knew there were people that were meant to rest, and others which were meant to be working. "Smith, you'll take night shift at the helm, and Straube, take the weapons." Cross was now prepared to be working hard, and he sat down as he picked more people, an equal amount for every crew, and he sent the others to rest. Jeroukoo
ooc: Screw it, making an app for StraubeStraube nodded and took the weapons from Cross. "Yessir." As Straube did so, Jason was in his room to find the cyro. He wanted to things to go quickly on this, he just wanted to find aliens and shoot stuff. He took the cyro and looked for a booth. He found one in his room and stepped inside. "Good Night." Jason said as he fell asleep in his pod. Straube then held the weapons and took one for himself, a pistol. "Ready, sir"
Quiksilver
OoC: Send it to me by PM, or post it on the OoC thread. Crap, I just ruined the point of the OoC thread. Okay, so guys, if you want to say something OoC, put it in the OoC thread. IC: Grayson found his room, a place he had never set foot in before, only by asking a passing Science officer. A little embarrassed, Grayson had set off to his room and stopped dead in his trackes when he found it. "Woah." He stated, looking around. It was small but used the space wisely, with a large bed by the far wall, a terminal in the corner and several bookcases and personal effects someone had gotten from him and placed in his room. A divider separated a area from the rest of the room, and in this area Grayson found a cryo pod. It was a brown color with red accents, and in whole Grayson found it a very pleasant place to be stuck in for the next week or so. Much better that his sleeping arrangements while in the U.S.E. training course, that's for sure. Walking over to the cryo pod, Grayson stepped inside and immediately found himself being hooked up to some sort of machine that was not unlike those seats on the Earth rollercoasters that turn upside down. The pod closed, sending Grayson into darkness. Grayson heard a hissing noise and everything blurred..._______________________________________________________________________________________________ Christoph watched as most of the Science officers up-ed and left. Grayson's proclamation has sounded over the intercom, and most of the people wanted to go into cryo, apparently. Not Christoph. He liked to work alone, anyways. Helped to concentrate. Christoph refocused on the scanner he was working at. Christoph frowned after a while of looking at the scanner. It was scanning a fragment of a asteroid the Challenger II had inspected. The scanner's readings were throwing up some very strange readings about the asteroid. Everything was normal about it- It was a S-type asteroid, made metallic iron mixed with magnesium-silicates- but one thing. Some of the asteroid had been reduced to ash...apparently, this asteroid had brushed up against something...something that had left these strange burn marks on it. What could it be? Christoph wondered. Could it possibly be...
Magnet Soldier
Dylan sighed Cryo? As in cryo-stasis? No thanks. After a few months of sleep you'd wake up stiff and tired, and that would be a first for me. Dylan thought, letting go of the pipe he'd been holding. He put his hands in his pocket and started whistling as he entered the cannon rooms. The one's used as distractions were fine, give or take a few scratches. However, the cannon he was operating was now a pile of junk. It seemed to have exploded. "Guess the duck tape had it's drawbacks." Dylan sighed, walking up to the giant turret. He pulled a small step-ladder from a corner and stepped on it, allowing him to look inside the cannon. He coughed, causing a cloud of ash to get in his eyes. He stepped backwards and grabbed the rim of the cannon to stop him from falling. "Should've got a torch first." He muttered, picking up a small torch from a desk. He flicked the switch and aimed it inside the cannon. It seemed not to help, then Dylan realised he was looking at ash, covering the steel. "Damn, that's gunna take atleast a week to clean, then about a week to fix." He sighed and turned the torch off, jumping down from the ladder and landing next to one of the intercoms. "Grayson. Grayson, if your there, this is Smith. The main cannon is down, so we'll be out of action for a while."
Quiksilver
"Captain Wakefield is not here right now." The voice of one of the comm officers replied. "He is in cryo at this time. First Lieutenant Carter is in Command." The comm switched off suddenly, and though the comm officer had hung up on Smith. "Condescending, aren't they?" A voice said behind Smith. "They all act superior because they handle the communication between the ship and Command." Christoph Koertig stepped up behind Smith. "You looking at our cannon?" Christoph said conversationally. "I came down to inspect it, too. Not much to do at the Science deck, so I thought I'd check out the damage."
Magnet Soldier
"Yeah, stupid Arses. But, we get through." Dylan agreed. He sighed and turned. "And I'm afraid we're out of action. The Main drives blown, knocking out the trigger system and the ammo bay. And we cant do jack untill we've cleaned all the ash out." Dylan walked up to the cannon and tapped it. "But she'll get through. All we have to hope for is that we dont get attacked in the next fortnight." Dylan chuckled slightly, but it was obviously forced. "Now, I'm guessing there was another reason for your visit?"
Quiksilver
Christoph looked blank. "What do you mean, another reason to be down here?" He said. "I just came down here to see if there was anything I could do to the cannon to get it back in order. I'm no Engineer, but I know a thing or two." Christoph walked over to the cannon and pulled out a sparkdriver. It was a advanced version of a screwdriver, welder, and hammer combined. "Wanna help?" Christoph asked Smith.
Magnet Soldier
"Sure. But that's not gunna help untill we've cleaned it. I did just say that." Dylan said, grabbing a strange device that looked like a gun. He jumped up onto the step ladder again and pointed the gun-like object inside the cannon. "There's another two on the desk. Get one and use it on the ash. It'll take off any hardened ash." Dylan ordered, pulling a trigger on the device. A small beam, like the flame that comes from a blow torch, erupted from the barrel. But, unlike a blow torch, the beam was heatless and couldn't harm a human being. Any other creature, yes, a human being, no. "Flash torch. Uses light instead of heat. Harmless." Dylan explained. Quiksilver
"I knew that." Christoph lied. "Just seeing if you knew that. He hurried over to the desk and picked up one of the flash torches. Moving over to the wreck again, he began running it over the cannon. Within no time, the cannon had been cleaned. Still, the pieces needed to be fit back together and wires needed to be rewired. Christoph tossed Smith the sparkdriver and grabbed some wires. "You get some of those pieces back together, and Ill get rewiring." He glanced at Smith, putting the wires together at the same time. "You okay with that?" Magnet Soldier
"Yeah. Infact, more than. With most of the crew in cryo, Working on it by my self would have taken atleast a week and a half, and thats without sleep." Dylan laughed, throwing the flashtorch onto the table. He grabbed the sparkdriver and looked towards some of the armor on the ammo compartment. "This might just take all night." Dylan muttered, sighing. He grabbed one of the plates that had fallen on the floor and pressed it flat against the wall of the cannon. "We'd better hurry if we're gunna get it finished tonight." OOC: Should we just skip the next few weeks, say they all went quick and peaceful?
Quiksilver
OoC: This is supposed to go in the OoC thread. Anyways, yeah, we're actually going to do something like right at the edge of the solar system, all the people are ripped out of cryo by something...*winks* so, we can just skip ahead, or wait for the others to come on. IC: Christoph nodded and put to the wires with renewed vigor. With his vast knowledge at his disposal, he soon rewired the wires. They instantly began to hum, but without the outer skin of the cannon, it still would not be able to fire. And so, Christoph went and helped Smith with the pieces. However, as such a menial task does, Christoph's mind began to wander. This time it went to the strange asteroid fragment he had found. Really, what could it be from?...Could it possibly be that alien life is here in this solar system? Christoph thought?
ThunderousSonar
Cross was happy that everyone was being okay, and as he was in command, he decided to prepare, as they would not reach the outer rim for quite a few months, and as he was in command for the next one or two weeks, he decided to be a bit more impulsive than his brother, and he wanted to be a good interim captain. "Alright, I'm feeling a bit tired, so I'll go to sleep, and you should all man the ship, if anyone needs me, I'll be in my room." Cross said. Quiksilver
OoC: I'm just going to jump ahead. IC: Everything was bliss in Grayson's mind. He was perfectly happy, more happy than in a long time. In the cryo-induced sleep, he was returned to that place, that time when his wife had still been alive... WEOOOOOHWEOOOHHHHHHH! A shattering alarm suddenly rang and Grayson opened his eyes. The cryo chamber's door opened and Grayson pushed himself out. Wild-eyed, he looked over until he spotted a timepiece. What the...? He was five days ahead of schedule! What was going- "PRIORITY ALERT. DAMAGE TO SHIP HAS BEEN INFLICTED BY NUMEROUS HOSTILES. PRIORITY ALERT." The computer suddenly rang over the intercom, and Grayson felt his confusion disappear. They were under attack...but by what? Quickly hurrying over to his window, he looked out. "My God..." He whispered. Directly in front of the ship's window was a futuristic rust-colored octopus-shaped ship. There was only one thing it could be...a alien ship! Grayson paled. He needed to get to Command...NOW!
ThunderousSonar
Cross heard a sudden rumbling as he was in his bed sleeping, yet again, he was jolted awake because he was the lightest of sleepers, and he soon began running toward the command bridge, as he even forgot his hand weapons, and he had to run back to his bedroom and grab and pack them as he began a mad sprint toward the bridge, and he knew that his brother was out of cryo, so Cross soon ran to his position. "Get out!" Cross said, "I need to man my position, the captain is coming." Cross straightened out his uniform as he put on the viewfinder to view what was grabbing the ship. "Oh my god....." Cross said in awe and in fear, "Man your positions! They seem hostile, but wait for the right time to fire!"
Magnet Soldier
"WOOHOO!!!!!" Dylan shouted, running for the guns. The cannon was fixed so he grabbed his Assault pulse rifle and ran towards the main cannon. Running towards the cannon room, he was shocked to find himself floating. Then he landed smack down on the floor. "Crap, these guys are good." He cursed, realising that they had just fallen; and through space. Which is weird and nearly impossible. He grabbed a long, grey pipe and pulled himself off the floor. He ran towards the cannon and jumped into the seat, then realising that he needed to load. He grabbed a few large cartons, and shoved them into the large compartment on the side of the gun. He jumped back into the seat and aimed towards.....an octopus. Quiksilver
"Hold your fire!" Grayson shouted at Weapons Control. He knew Smith had made his way down there, looking through the ship cameras. "We'll try talking with them first. They have us outmatched in weapons and armor." Grayson turned off the intercom and looked towards the comm officers. They looked at him, helpless. They couldn't get through with the ship. Grayson turned back to the viewscreen, looking at the several octopus-like ships facing them. Now that he was getting a closer look, they looked more like ships than before. The head of the octopus was box-ish in shape and looked like a command bridge. The eight legs of the octopus now looked more like eight engines arching away from the command bridge. As he watched, one of the ships moved closer to him. Grayson prepared for the blast that would follow, like they had before, but nothing happened. There was a soft beep and one of the comm officers shouted, "They are making contact, Captain!" Before Grayson could comprehend this, the same hologram projector General Blacke had used came on. And Grayson found himself looking at a alien. He -Grayson assumed it was a he- was humanoid in shape, but more shark-like. It had a blue, narrow head, with three tentacles on the top of his head. Two of these tentacles curved over his shoulders like rams horns, and the middle one fell down his back. A couple of small tentacles fell on either side of his mouth like a mustache, and large black eyes gleamed at Grayson above them. It was a head-and-shoulders shot, but from what Grayson could see, he was wearing a metallic-silver combat outfit. Grayson wondered if it only spoke a alien language... "Greetings, human." The alien said in perfect English, but with a strange accent that added a bite after every word. "I am Commander Ra. Why are you in Alphyn-owned space? Jeroukoo
Jason had his mouth open. The alien they had just met could talk? That just wasn't logical. Then again, we are in space... Jason sighed and put his gun down. He was a little embarrassed that he still had it up, since he was the only one holding it up. He then returned his site to the alien. It was definitely human like..ish. It was bipedal and had limbs like a human, but the creature was more like a human-shark-octopus mixed together. It was strange, but it was stranger it spoke English.
