Yeah, never fully follow a tutorial, just pick some styles, techniques or parts of it and try 'em out.

No. They're basically shortened versions of PSD's telling you how each layer was made.

No, you take out the unnecessary parts. If you fully follow a tut, then its nothing to really be proud of in my opinion, thats why i never use them. Anyway you know what i think of the tag.

Try to find your own style that tuts don't normally follow. You should go outside of what tuts show you. If you just follow them to the letter, you won't get far.

Have an image in your head of what you want it to look like, then experiment to create your vision.
