Escape the Fate - This War Is Our Deluxe Review

Intro

So for starters lets look at think about what This War Is Ours was like. To me, the only good songs were "We Won't Back Down", "The Flood", "This War Is Ours" and "10 Miles Wide", with the titular track being the best by far. Now I had hope for them to realise that this experimental album was bad and make up for it. I'm a bit of an ETF stalker, watching their MySpace and wiki pages for updates on them etc., and was pleased when I saw this coming out. I got it from YouTube after it was leaked today and I have to say I'm impressed.

Review

Bad Blood – This song start off pretty weird, with it being like some kind of techno/drum and bass stuff, and I was kind of thinking “...what?”. Then the guitar riff and the intro scream came in and I was pleased. I had already heard the song live and was impressed with it. However this wasn't the song I was expecting from listening to it live; the album version sounds pretty weird. The the voice effects are really strange and put me off for the whole song the first time listening to it. After hearing it a few more times though, I found I came to like it. I think it would sound better without the voice effects and the backing vocals being turned down, though.

Good Points:

Fast paced, heavy

Good vocals

Great breakdown and guitar solo

Bad Points:

Weird voice effects

Max's growls are turned down

Very different style as you'd expect

Behind the Mask – I downloaded this song and listened to on iTunes and was instantly pleased with it. The intro sounds almost like Iron Maiden, until Mabbit's vocals come in. Back with his blessthefall-like voice, and Max's growls not edited as much as they usually are, it's a definite strong please. A very melodic yet slightly heavy song, becomes the strongest song on the album. The vocals are somewhat... odd, but they are actually better than the vocals from TWIO (not that that's difficult). This song takes the best from TWIO and mixes it with DIYLF for a brilliant track.

Good Points:

Overall brilliant song

Brings back old ETF style

New innovative style

Good vocals

Great solo

Bad Points:

Too short

Harder Than You Know (Acoustic) – There really is barely any difference between this and the original version, in fact it's barely noticeable in some parts of the song such as the start. Really nothing special about it.

Good Points:

Acoustic guitar adds to the song

Bad Points:

Very, very similar to the original

This War Is Mine (Clown Remix) – I'm going to be honest here, I'm never going to listen to this song again. The start is pretty good, but then it becomes the typical remix bullshit with repeating the same stuff over and over again, etc.. Clown needs to go back to Slipknot and do whatever he does, because this is clearly not what he's good at. I can't believe Escape the Fate would let them do this to their best song.

Good Points:

It is a remix of This War Is Ours

Bad Points:

Pretty much everything

Overall Rating

****** (6/10)

Brushfire. It's me, Possesion. If you remember me. Haha, my other accounts' password is lost forever. So yeah. http://forum.yugiohcardmaker.net/thread-200919-post-4084957.html#pid4084957 - Explains it.

Anyways, i'm pumped to buy this tommorrow, even more pumped to buy Bullet's Fever. But hey, this album looks good. I agree with you on EVERY point. Especially Clown's remix. Sigh.

I've never liked this band' date=' even though most of my friends are telling me they are the "bestest" band ever. =/

They are most definitely not the best band ever, but I do love them. I'm not stupid, I'm aware that they're not actually that great but that doesn't stop me liking them.

I don't remember you too well. D:

Anyway, between you and me they are both available on piratebay now. I'm still going to buy them when they come out in the UK, but I wanted to hear them first hand. ;3 Glad to see you agree... if their new album is full of Behind the Mask's then I'll be happy. =P

Btw, the breakdown for Behind the Mask sounds like an argument between Craig and Max lmao:

Craig: Go!

Max: I said I will go!

Craig: Go!

Max: I said I will go! Go!

Craig: I said I will go!

*solo*

Hahaha I havent heard ANYTHING off of Fever yet. I'm waiting till tommorrow. :D And haha, well I mean. Yeah. ETF said thier new album is coming out this same year. (: Haha, and I love when they have arguements like that! If you know It's Not Obvious, It's Ironic by A Skylit Drive they do that too.

They want it out "by Fall 2010" but that could mean Late Summer 2010 also, which is what I'm hoping for. ^^ It's a real shame that the only song played on Kerrang/Scuzz will be the one with Mick Mars (so obvious), but oh well. I can't wait. =D

A Skylit Drive are pretty good, but I haven't heard that song.
