Guest Random Dude
Yes this is a thread about Epics such as The Illiad, Oddysey, Don Quixote de la Mancha, Beowulf, The Divine Comedy, Dante's Inferno. These are great books. I've read The Oddysey, Dante's Inferno, part of The Illiad, Beowulf, and I'm working on Don Quixote de la Mancha. Discuss epic books/poems. Umbra
You do know that Dante's Inferno is the first part of the Divine Comedy trilogy, right? I wouldn't consider Don Quixote an epic in the same way as the others, but I have read it. I tried reading The Divine Comedy once (or twice), but the translation confused me. Lyfe.
I'm currently reading The Odyssey. It's pretty good! And I hate reading!
Guest Random Dude
Sorry about that, I never read the Divine Comedy, but I read Dante's Inferno. I thought they were separate books.
Christian Exodia
What about Rime of the Ancient Mariner? I haven't read any, but I may be planning to. How would you classify an epic?

A King by Rights
Does "Paradise Lost" count as an Epic? It should and it's a fantastic read. I like it and i'm not even Christian.

Guest Random Dude
It only counts if you read the books. And I think the previously stated books count. Th ones in the first post were the ones I could remember at the time.
Christian Exodia
Rime of the Ancient Mariner isn't a book, it's a 18th Century Poem about a Mariner who killed an albatross & was cursed to stay at sea for a long period of time, surviving it all, & only two made it. The Mariner & The Bridesmaid. The Bridesmaid died as the curse started to lift. The spirits of the 199 Dead rose up to the heavens. But the Mariner stayed at sea longer, until the Pilot's son & the Hermit found him. The ship sank as the Trio escaped. And the Mariner told the tale on & on & on. Personally, I say it's an epic. Guest Random Dude
Yeah, I forgot to mention that most epics are poems, really long poems.
Scyire
For all those who don't know, Dante's Inferno =/= Dante's Inferno Game. Good game, much better book.
Guest Random Dude
Yeah, the book/poem is better. It gives more detail. Plus the game is loosely based on the book so it keeps a lot of important details out though. And Dante is supposed to be a poet, not a crusader. Ecoboy1324
Oh and BTW Pendragon is about a long Quest thus is an Epic. An epic is a long poem.[spoiler=From Definition of Epic]However in modern terms' date=' epic is often extended to other art forms, such as novels, theater and film,[1'] where the story is centered on heroic characters, and the action takes place on a grand scale, just as in epic poetry
Guest Random Dude
By that definition, a ton of other stuff would be considered Epics.

Infinitus
I SOOOOOOOO want to read Dante's Inferno, and the Divine Comedy. They seem so awesome, and I seriously need to read them. If only I could find them. Epics are long poem books? I don't think I read any of them, so I think it might be a good idea to try reading one. First Step: Dante's Inferno. Second Step: Whatever the second book is in the Divine Comedy series. Third Step: Whatever the third book is in the Divine Comedy series. Infinitus, the other parts are "Purgatorio" and "Paradisio", in that order.
