DARKPLANT RISING
1. PJ is more teenager-like, a realistic, humorous character, while HP's persona can be explained by just a single short phrase: "nice and bland". Apart from highly unlikely and hard to think as being 10 years old, it doesn't seem like the persona of a right main character. Main characters should grow over the process of the series. While PJ did, HP didn't. He was too good from the start. Moreover, the lack of unique emotions in him shows the writer's lack of character creativity. 2. PJ takes place mostly in existing places, thus making it easier to blend into. You can imagine the views because you're already seen them, and the sense of familiarity one will feel to the world inside the story is unthinkable, possibly - no, definitely - #1 in all books I've read so far. Even the Greek Gods are so realistically depicted. HP, on the other hand, takes place in Hogwarts, an imaginary school no one has really gone to, and JKR doesn't do a good job of description either. 3. PJ has a much better plot, with almost no unneeded parts. Its hints are nicely put out, and only Azkaban was better in terms of mystery. Half the story from book 5 of PJ was not only irrelevant to plot, but also extremely tedious, not letting you go for far without stopping. 4. PJ didn't become a movie till book 4 or 5, meaning that it relied on story alone to get all its fame. Even after being aired, the movie was horrible. However, HP got a movie offer from the beginning because "it's easy to make into a movie", and was therefore given the unworthy throne of best fantasy ever. It was lucky - when the book was created, computer graphics were just being raised to its current awesomeness. Hollywood needed a lab rat for a fantasy story made into a CG-full movie, and they happened to come across this at the right timing. If it was 10 years older or 10 years younger, it would have been gone, not made a movie either. Face it: if it wasn't for the movie being created, HP would have been lost in the flow of time, forgotten from the minds of most. So I think they're different. Also, there's an older thread. Phantom Roxas
Main character goes to a place where people like him hang out and learn stuff. That's it. After that, they're radically different, and any similarities beyond that can be attributed to the fact that Harry Potter isn't the first to it. I only read Percy Jackson because I saw the trailer for the movie and wanted to read the book for the movie, and the movie was bad. After I read Order of the Phoenix, I stopped reading the series and figured I'd just deal with the movies. Like =Evagelion= said, Harry Potter was filled to the brim with pointless stuff. Percy Jackson has us see things through the eye of the main character, plus the books are really funny. Also the relationships aren't poorly written. Just look at the epilogue of Harry Potter where JKR just makes up characters for the sake of giving characters relationships. It also shows that JKR lets her real life affect the plot too much, as Malfoy ends up with some random girl just because JKR created Pansy for the sole purpose to hate her. Sure, Riordan only wrote the book for his son, but at least it wasn't for himself.
Phantom Roxas
Reading Battle of the Labyrinth, and I love it so far. Easily the funniest one in the series for me.

Brinolovania
I've read the entire series three-four times. I own the first four books, and aim to get the fifth. The Lost Hero wasn't as good as the originals...:(...and THAT ART SUCKS!!!
Yang Xiao-Long
The Percy Jackson series is epic. I finished the whole series in a total of about 10-12 hours, simply because I read fast and I was hooked from pg. 1 of every book. I actually read the first book of the second series before I read Percy Jackson's series xD It got me started on that lol... Favorite gods in the series...Poseidon (Cuz he's my favorite of the Big Three), Hades (Because he can take the "I see dead people" joke to new heights lol), and Apollo because he's just plain hilarious. I hate Hera, because she's just a *BEEP* Oops...sorry xD I loved the little jokes (like the Hoover Dam, "I need to use the Dam bathroom") and the little historical mentions, especially with Shakespeare being a Judge of the Dead and George Washington being a son of...Athena, I believe? Gaea in Series 2 (spelled that way in The Lost Hero) is one seriously bad mother though... And also...did anyone else rofl for like 10 minutes after reading the part where Kronos gets sat on by a Hyperborean giant? *Rofls for 10 minutes again*

EliminateHRN
I still haven't got around to buying the last one of the original series. I need to re-read the series, though, forgot most of it. I'm trying not to spoil myself by reading spoilers from The Lost Hero.

That's enough time for me to re-read the Percy Jackson series again over 9000 times...

X-DiViiNe-WiCkEdNeSS-X
In my opinion, the Percy Jackson series was a horrible depiction of Greek Mythology. The writer is extremely talented but his publisher was horrible (Multiple typos throughout the series). Stating that Ares' Daughter could "steal" Zeus' lightning bolt is simply crass. And a God showing hatred towards a mortal because of his parent...wow. Well, the writer has a lot of potential but this series was not his best. Phantom Roxas
Oh great, someone using the logic of "It's affiliated with Disney, therefore Disney MUST be the ones to blame!" Why don't you, you know, blame that particular editor instead of the company as a whole? I did talk with someone who pointed out that it's completely impossible for one to steal Zeus' lightning bolt. However, showing hatred against a mortal because of their parents is actually something I would expect out of a Greek god. Who wants to bet there will be a third series with the main character being a son of Hades? Jacoby746
I finished the Last Olympian. Im going try to get the new one this weekend. Well, the writer has a lot of potential but this series was not his best.Well, from what I know about Greek Mythology, most of the main gods basically hated each other (I guess thousands of years together would do that) It wouldn't be to surprising that they hated their kids too.
