Good to be Bad [Pokémon]

I wanted to do a fan-fiction and I wanted it to be a Pokémon fan-fiction. Something I didn't want however, was for it to be like everyone elses Pokémon fan-fiction. Therefore I decided that this story will not be centered around a young boy/girl travelling with his/her friends while he/se ambitions to be a Pokémon Master/ Co-Ordinator/ Breeder.

No, I wanted to center my story around the "Bad Guys", because the good guys always steal the spot light!
Prologue]

The darkness and silence of the corridor were almost eerie, lacking any sign of life. It was like something taken from a horror movie, you just know that something will jump out and yet you get scared when it happens. One would expect to see at least a night guard or something, but there was nothing, just silence and darkness.

Suddenly a soft screeching noise broke the silence, coming from further down the corridor. A woman was lying on top of one of the sky lighters, slowly cutting a hole in it with some sort of device. Her appearance was completely hidden thanks to a ski mask and a pair of night vision goggles. The only thing you could make out was that she was a woman, since her female figure was visible through the tight black clothing. The soft screeching sound stopped and the woman pulled out a piece of the glass, having cut up a hole in the window that was large enough for her to fit through. She took a rope, which was attached to the brown belt around her waist, and tied it to a ventilation system before throwing it down into the building. She hooked herself to the rope and casually slid down and into the building.

“Okay, I’m in, monitor shut down in T minus 12 seconds.” She mumbled, apparently having some kind of radio communication system with her.

“Remember that the communication with me will also disappear…” A voice replied, most likely belonging to a man.

“I know that” the woman retorted, sounding a bit annoyed.

“Good luck sis” the person on the other side of the line replied and with a small cracking sound it went silent.

The woman sighed and then started to move quickly yet silently through the corridors. She seemed to know exactly where she was going and only stopped to carefully look behind corners, making sure that the surveillance systems were out and that there actually were no guards. Sure, they had studied this place for months just for this break-in, but it never hurt to be extra careful.

After she had been running through corridors for a while she stopped at a door and brought out something that looked a little like a calculator with wires from a small container that was attached to her belt. She plugged one of the wires into the code lock outside the door and pressed a button on the device. A bunch of numbers started to flash on the screen for the device, giving away a low click sound every now and then. Suddenly it peeped and flashed, causing the doors to open before her just shortly after.

You couldn’t see it, but the woman smiled underneath the ski mask, quickly unplugging the device and stepping inside the room, the doors closing behind her.

She sighed a little and looked around in the room. “Okay, now for the easy part” she mumbled, walking over to a big machine in the back of the room. She pushed a button on the machine, causing the screens on it to activate. She took off her goggles so that she could see what she was doing better, revealing two stunningly beautiful eyes, being a brilliant green with long lashes. You could also make out that she was a Caucasian now that some of her skin was revealed as well, but other than that her appearance remained a mystery. She started to type complicated codes, containing both numbers and letters using one of the keyboards attached to the machine. Technology had always been “her thing”, and she had no problem with understanding what to do with the machine. A click, a peep and a crack was heard after she had been typing for a while and a small door in the middle of the machine opened up, revealing what looked like the door to a safe.

She walked over to the newly revealed part of the machine and punched a code in. She and her brother had worked several weeks on just getting that code, but in the end all of their hard work would pay off. It usually did. The safe gave away a ringing sound and the small screen and some buttons flashed green in approval and the door opened.

The woman’s eyes sparkled a little as she peered inside of the safe and looked at what was hidden there. Even though it was dark, and she didn’t have her night vision goggles on she could make out the shape of what was lying inside.

“You’re mine now” she mumbled and grinned as she reached out and grabbed the contents of what was inside the safe. She looked at the Pokéball lying in her hand and you could see the triumphant look in her eyes. She quickly placed the Pokéball in a small bag on her belt and then continued to shut down the machine she had used.

She smiled a little as she put her goggles back on again. “Mission Completed” she chuckled, before turning around and heading back the way she had come, only leaving behind a hole in the glass to one of the sky lighters.
Chapter 1 – A Day Like Every Other?]

“Last night a break in was made at the Weather Research Institute. Police have been going through the crime scene and the whole institute has been closed due to investigations. No information about exactly what was stolen has been given, but apparently it was part of a top secret project that…”

The female reporter got cut off as a young man turned the TV off and sighed.

“I was watching that you know” A woman, presumably in her mid twenties grunted, glaring at the young man, who was slouched down in a recliner next to her.

“Why do you care what they say?” he asked, “You know better than anyone what went down last night” he added, smirking a little and shaking his head slightly.

The woman glared at him and grunted a little, she didn’t want to start an argument with him, it wasn’t worth it. She ate a spoonful of cereal and milk, honey oat rings, her favorite. She closed her eyes and savored the flavor as if it was a fine wine.

“I can’t believe that you actually eat that crap” the man pointed out looking at her and wrinkling his nose in a disgusted face.

“Shut up Grayson” She retorted, sticking her tongue out to her brother. They really were different at times, her and her brother, making it hard to believe that they were in fact twins. Yet they both shared the same ambitions in life, ambitions meaning money and power of course.

She looked down into her bowl of cereal and then glanced back up at her brother. They weren’t identical of course, being of different genders, yet she still saw a lot of herself in her brother. They both have those brilliant green eyes and their faces were a bit similar too. Both had very oval faces, a defined chin, even though her brothers were more squared than hers (something she was thankful she didn’t have since she considered that to be quite a masculine feature) and both of them were a bit pale. They weren’t pale in a sickish kind of way, but they were still very pale. She wasn’t really bothered by it, but she wouldn’t have mind having a bit more color.

“Well, I’m going to take a shower” Grayson stated, getting out of the rugged recliner and stretching a little. “Want to join me?” He teased his sister, grinning at her.

She made a sound of disgust and grimaced. “You seriously have to stop saying things like that, I’m starting to think that you actually mean those things” She said, shivering a little at the thought, immediately regretting having thought of it as she got a mental picture that freaked her out a little.

Grayson laughed a little and walked off towards the bathroom, taking off his shirt as he walked, glancing back at her and grinning teasingly again. “Suit yourself Tessa, it’s your loss” He laughed and walked into the bathroom, closing the door behind him.

Tessa sighed a little and shook her head, considering making some sort of comeback, but she decided that she was to let it slip this time. She decided to start the TV again and see if they were still talking about the break in, she was disappointed to see that they were not. Instead they were giving a makeover to a lady in her forties that apparently had no idea how to dress or have her hair made.

She scratched the back of her head and heard her brother start the shower in the other room. She grinned a little and looked down at her empty bowl, getting an idea of how she could get back at her brother. After turning the TV off she got up from the brown and slightly tattered sofa, walking over to the adjoined kitchen, heading immediately for the sink. She hummed a little as she started the water and washed the bowl, slowly of course, grinning a little as she heard her brother cry out as the water to the shower switched back and forth between scolding hot and ice cold.

Grayson had been showering happily up until that point and he pressed himself to the very back of the shower, avoiding the cold water. “UNCOOL TESSA!” He yelled, slipping a little on the slippery surface. He removed his wet bangs from his face as they completely blocked his vision, a downside of having long bangs. His sister often made remarks to that he was emo; one time she sat and stared at his wrists for a long while and when he asked what she was doing, she simply replied that “she was searching for cuts”. It annoyed him a little, but then again, they were siblings and annoying each other was kind of their job. He heard his sister laugh from the other room and carefully checked if the water was back to normal again, being pleased to find it so. He stepped back under the water and continued to shower, hoping that his sister wouldn’t turn on the water again.

Tessa sighed and undid the bun hair had been put up in earlier, letting her long black hair fall down to her shoulders. She casually flipped through the pages to the newspaper that was spread out on their kitchen table, mostly looking at the pictures as she didn’t have the energy to actually read anything.

The refrigerator hummed in the background as it usually did, something that bothered her slightly. They couldn’t afford one of those silent ones, and even if they could they would probably spend it on better furniture for the living area instead. That sofa and the recliner should have been thrown away ages ago, but they had always had other things to prioritize. She looked around in the adjoined kitchen and living area, and smiled a little. All of those things had been paid for with the money they had made for selling off stolen Pokémon or merchandise. And people said that crime didn’t pay off. She glanced at last night’s conquest, neither her or her brother knew exactly what it was, but as it was part of a secret project at the weather institute it had to be worth a lot of money. She suppressed the urge to call the Pokémon forth so she could see what they had actually stolen, but she knew that her brother would give her hell for that. They didn’t really know what to do with the thing, but something would always come up.

She heard the water go off in the bathroom, meaning her brother was finally done with his shower. Normally she would have been eager to take a shower as well, chasing her brother away from the bath room as soon as he was done, but today she just didn’t feel like it. It was a Saturday and the weather outside was horrible, a staying inside watching re-runs on TV day. A Squawk was heard from the other room, signaling that Polly, her Chatot had woken up, probably being hungry. She sighed and got up, pulling her oversized gray sweat pants up a little as she did so as they had slid down a little before, revealing her black underwear. She would probably not even bother to get dressed properly today, she just wanted to feel comfy and cozy today and her sweatpants and the white tank top she was wearing at the moment was just fitted that perfectly.

Polly whistled a little and jumped around on the stick it was sitting on as she entered the room, nodding happily and squawking. Tessa smiled and petted it a little while she poured some food into her bowl, noticing that she had to refill her water bowl as well. “Thank you” Polly cooed and whistled a little as she got over to the food bowl, happily eating some of the food. Tessa had no idea whatthe food contained, it made her think of oranges just because of the color, but she doubted that it actually was made from that. She would never have the guts to taste it and even thinking about doing so made her feel a bit queasy. She remembered that her brother had eaten one once, tastes like chicken, he’d told her something she was not completely willing to believe. She poured some new water into Polly’s bowl and went back into the room to place it next to the food bowl. Polly barely took any notice to her, being fully occupied with chomping down the food.

“Hungry are we?” Tessa laughed, poking Polly playfully on top of her head. Polly just glanced at her and moved away from her as if it would help her get away from further “poking attacks”.

She giggled a little at this behavior and walked out of the room again, leaving Polly to her breakfast. As she was looking back at her Pokémon when she exited the room she almost walked into her brother as he was walking past, heading to his room to change. Something she barely escaped, she had no interest in crashing into her brother wearing a towel. Actually crashing into her brother would never be an interest of hers but she would especially not be interested in crashing into him when he was almost naked.

“Close one sis” Grayson stated as he walked into his room, closing the door behind him.

Tessa just rolled her eyes at him and decided to go brush her teeth, being thankful that her brother had actually wiped the floor after him. Usually the bathroom was half swimming pool after he had showered. She decided to see this as a sign that the day was going to be a good one.

How pleasantly unknowing she was, squeezing some Dentaclean tooth paste onto her purple tooth brush.
Chapter 2 – Crashes, Crackers and Catastrophes!]

She spat out the now foamy mush consisting of toothpaste and water, washing her mouth afterwards to make sure she didn’t have toothpaste traces around her mouth. As she was wiping her face off with a towel and watched the last traces of the toothpaste water mush disappear in the sink, she heard a loud crash come from the kitchen followed by a groan.

“He will panic in three... two… one...” She mumbled, the words barely leaving her mouth before she heard a shriek from the other room. Someone unknowing might have thought that it was Polly, the Chatot, shrieking but Tessa knew all too well that the shriek belonged to her brother. She wasn’t worried though, him shrieking was almost part of their daily routine. She was almost more surprised when a whole morning went by without him shrieking, well without the scene causing his shrieking happening would probably be more accurate. She took a quick glance in the mirror, checking that she, in fact, had no toothpaste traces around her mouth, before she walked out from the dimly lit bathroom and into the adjoined kitchen and living room. Just as she had suspected it was Tyson who had been climbing on the cupboards, trying to get to the Pokécandy located on top of them. As usual he had managed to fall down and take several pots and pans with him, therefore the crashing sound.

Tyson was her brother’s Tyrogue, whom they had encountered when they had relocated from Slateport to Fortree. They had found him lying near the road, seeming to be badly injured, so her brother had decided to bring it with them so he could help it. Even though they happened to make a living from stealing Pokémon it didn’t mean that they were bad people that didn’t care for their or wild Pokémons health and well being.

Grayson managed to befriend the Tyrogue and when it had healed up it didn’t want to leave him and since then they had been pretty much inseparable and Grayson had turned into a mother hen when it came to Tyson.

“I told you that you can’t go climbing on the cupboards, if you want food just tell me” Grayson scolded Tyson, yet in a voice that wouldn’t even make a two year old child feel bad. Tyson climbed out from under a couple of pans and brushed himself off, glancing up at Grayson every now and then.

Grayson sighed a little and shook his head slightly “I’m glad, you’re okay” he mumbled, getting up from the floor and starting to tidy up the mess Tyson had caused. Tyson scratched his head a little and then picked up a large pan and handed it to Grayson. Grayson smiled at Tyson and accepted the pan, stacking it into the cupboard.

“You two make a great couple you know” Tessa teased, leaning to the wall and observing them, “I mean, you’re equally stupid”.

Both Tyson and Grayson glared at her but remained quiet, continuing to stack away the last of the pots and pans. Grayson then shut the cupboard and opened another one, picking out a box of food for Tyson.

“Well, you and Polly are equally annoying so I guess you make a great couple as well” he said, shutting the door to the cupboard and high fiving Tyson.

Tessa shook her head a little and rolled her eyes, walking over to the couch, deciding to watch some more TV. She jumped into the brown worn out piece of furniture that they called their sofa and picked up the remote lying on the coffee table, turning the TV on.

“Video Footage shows an unidentified, female, suspect leaving the Whether Research Institute” A reporter said on the TV as a clip of quite poor quality was displayed on the screen.

Tessa gasped a little and stared at the screen, her eyes wide open. She had gotten caught on camera, it couldn’t have been a security camera as they had made sure to power them all down until she was back. The quality on the video and the way it was filmed also seemed to be different than one that might come from a security camera. There was no time displayed on it, it wasn’t black and white and it actually followed her as she climbed down the roof and ran off. Had someone been spying on them? Did he, she or them know who she and maybe even who her brother was? Then why had someone been spying on them and how did they know that she was going to steal the secret project that night? What were their intentions? Her head was exploding with questions as she stared at the screen, not being able to make out either what they said or what was being displayed. She had shut down completely, being fully enclosed in her own thoughts. She got pulled out of this as her brother waved his hand repeatedly in front of her eyes, staring at her.

“What the face?” he asked, chuckling a little as he looked down at Tyson, who was munching on some kind of cracker suited for Pokémon.

“Someone saw..” Tessa mumbled, picking her nails nervously.

Her brothers face got serious as he stared at her, “Saw what?” he asked, not being able to hide the nervousness in his voice.

Tessa just gave him a look and then nodded towards the TV screen, where a freeze frame of her cloaked self was showing. She had been lucky that she had decided to still wear the mask after the break-in, otherwise they would have been in an ever deeper mess.

Her brother stared at the screen for a while, leaving the room in complete silence, save for the muffled nomming sounds coming from Tyson as he cheerfully continued to munch on his cracker, being happily oblivious to what was going on.

Why thank you ^^ I'm glad you think that way, I wanted to bring out more of everyday life in Pokémon, make it more relatable you know :)

Yeah, Grayson freaks me out a little too, when I wrote it I was like: can I get banned for this? xD

But he's a fun character though :)

I'm sorry for there being no updates, but school is killing me atm and I have no time to write atm. I hope that I will have time for it during the weekend though.. Otherwise you could probably count on an update after three weeks (have a whole week of school and dance performances and then me and my class are going to Lithuania for a week, and the week after that we'll have a lot of report work to do :/)
