Thanks again Armadilloz. That does sound easier' date=' and might look nice, but the guy who is running this games production is a sucker for frames. He is the kind of guy who would love to see 1000's of frames. Of course he knows that won't happen, but he would prefer for things like the walking sprites to have solid frames versus blurs, at least with a more serious looking like Raizou. Some of the other characters might have a more goofier type animation for walking =P

Killermurch, don't worry I don't doubt your skill or anything. [b']I won't claim to be a great splicer.[/b] I have seen amazing splices, and I'm still a far ways from that. The pokemon chosen themselves most of the time aren't of my own accord, although I don't mean that as an excuse. The choice wasn't mine, but the way they were put together was, which I apologize for. It's cool though that there is a new splicer around with avid skill, so welcome around, I'll be sure to keep an eye out for any of your work =D

You can claim that because you are a great splicer.

If they are easier Killermurch, how can you say you're better =P. I'm just kidding. I went and looked at some of your digimon stuff, but since I don't know Digimon well, I can't say I can tell how good they are.

I will make the legendaries in.spyre. Of course it won't be for a long while. As usual I have fighting game sprites first, then I also have the rest of the Fakemon to remake. I have the legendaries planned, but nothing has actually be sprited. As for me being great, I don't see it. I won't be a jerk and say I'm not good. I do think I am good. Yet the level of difference between my sprites and the great ones I have seen is too much for me to put myself on the level of great.

Two reasons:

1. I strive for better skill every time I sprite. My skill now has increased, and a good number of my Fakemon need a lot of work. In general I want to make them all better and more presentable. It's also a good way to practice to have to redo them.

2. I want to one day see these creations in a Pokemon hack game. Right now and probably for awhile these hack games will be done to the 3rd generations one. This means if I want to see these guys in a hack, I must have them be compatible. They have to fit in a 64X64 size, and they mustn't have anymore than 16 colors. Some of my Fakemon don't fit this rule. Even the ones that do fit in this size should be changed so they are scaled down. A good number of them I made with the idea 80X80 is what I wanted to be max size.

Well in a fit of boredom, I decided to make this. It will be my avatar for awhile (farewell for now Raislash). I don't know what more there is to mention of it, so I will leave it at that. I know I said I'd be trying to do nothing but fighting game, but my mind wanders from time to time =P

I haven't conceived new ideas for Fakemon for a long time. All my legendaries are planned out and the mecha turtle has some too I'll try to work out in the future. Everything by this point for Fakemon will be just enhancing and fixing them. I don't think there will be many 'new' fakemon concepts that I'd be making. My region is done, the need for more is very little.

Again though, all stuff like that is put on hold, I have a fighting game to make, which takes a lot of work and time. I only have walking sprites, 1 attack, and that's all. Still lots of stuff to do, and all this stuff is for the games probably most basic character =P

Well surprise, surprise. I have actually completed a new sheet of splices. I entered and was challenged to a couple of contests, so I figured I might as well do the rest of my requests and what not.

The first 8 things were all for one contest, 4 recolors and 4 splices. It won it's match. I don't do recolors often, but they are very relaxing and simple fun =D

That flying mixture of ice things also won me a contest.

The Pikachu family with Linoon is another champ =D

The ghost guy on the bottom right I think has won me a contest, but that is only as of right now I believe, I think the contest is still open and it's only winning by one point (funny thing is, I didn't even vote for it, I voted for another guy's sprite I thought did better)

I also have gone and did a request I could swear I was just going to ignore. The huge one on the bottom. It was tough fitting them all in. It was especially tough also because of the things put into it. I somehow pulled through though. Normally had my pride not been so arrogant, I would have just said no to it. Now I really don't want to see everyone and their grandmas jump at the chance to suggest or request huge ones like that. They are hard, and sometimes seem impossible. The final result is hard to figure out when there are crappy to use sprites like Palkia, and Mamoswine. They are big with hard to transfer features, or small and bland. So I'm just saying, request at your own risk, I may just get lazy and deny it or give up.

You have some pretty good sprites, though some could definitely use some improvement. While I can critique your older work, you have gotten a lot better since then, so I'll only mention the latest batch or two. The latest 11 Pokemon monstrosity's anatomy could be a little more natural for example. The way the legs come out where its shoulder blades are and the fact it has gigantic arms make it look mildly amateurish to me, though the slightly less exotic 8 Pokemon collaboration looks much more pristine. Though deserving only a quick mention, the re-colors look pristine and neat.

I have a slight problem on how the fighter sprites turned out. I personally do not like how the faces look, though you fixed most of these problems when you updated it. While more of a personal suggestion then a critique, might I suggest exaggerating some of the weapons a bit. Ignoring everyone else, Moonblade's weapon is a mere 2 pixels in width. As such, it is going to be incredibly hard to see, especially on darker backgrounds, not to mention hard to balance it when its in the making the game.

If you were to code a game using this sprite, you would run into one of two problems. Either you’re going to have the hit box match the spear, making it too thin to hit people in many situations. That, or you’re going to have the hit box extend past the sprite; giving it an “invisible hit box”. While hit boxes usually never perfectly match up to the sprite 100% since most fighting games characters aren’t square and programmers are lazy in most situations, having it on every sprite can be confusing when playing the game. While this isn’t a bad thing, since sometimes invisible hit boxes are added to character to balance them without having to re-sprite everything, it is something you should keep in mind when you make future sprites.

Ryan and I love lots of games only using two hundred sprites per character. Even in games with a low sprite amount, such as Street Fighter 2 with the average character having only has 155 sprites, can still be a lot to do. With seventeen characters, Street Fighter 2 has about 2635 sprites, not counting portraits or backgrounds. While the sprites aren’t high grade, it’s still a lot of work. While we do prefer games like Melty Blood, which has high quality sprites and well over 1200 sprites per character, I would never make my friend do that kind of work on a game were making with our spare time. As for the blur, that’s strictly up to you, Justin and Ryan. It’s a purely aesthetics choice that bears no true purpose other then looking pretty and robbing young spriters of their youth.

Going off of an aesthetics view point and not a spriter’s, most of your Fakemon look cool/cute, though some look just look stupid. Pokedex numbers 506, 544, 545, 586, 587, 599 and 627 in particular are visually unappealing or bland. While I’m not trying to bash you, you might want to “spice them up” when you convert them into third generation sprites.

Your sprites are probably the best on this site and keep getting better and better. While you’re still ages from being the best spriter out there, you are far better the most. While I do want you to continue spriting for the fighting game, you don’t have to completely disregard your Fakemon. A lot of people on several site watch you shearly for your Fakemon and I personally wouldn’t want to get in the way of your hobby. On the last note, I love what you did with Shun-Yu. He looks sexy in a non-homoerotic way.

Everyone give a round of applause for Ottormonk here. This critique is something you all should be jealous of, even if it is flowered with a tad too many fancy words.

If none of you can guess, he is a good friend of mine in real life. He and his brother are the ones running the fighting game that I'm spriting for. He is also the source of many of my head aches. Recall all those times that I may have said something along of the lines of "This one jerk of a friend of mine requested I did this." or "Yeah, that weird friend of mine told me I should try this." Well this is that friend.

Cool to see you drop by man and leave me some critique. You could have just called too =P

Don't worry of about me dropping stuff to work on the fighting game. I do this because I want to get the stuff done. I need the focus to be able to do things and advance. The Fakemon will be able to wait, they aren't going anywhere anyways. The fighting game also allows me to work with something I care more about, Raizou. Having a set of sprites for him will be great.

As for some rebuttals to your points:

-Oh crap I have none!

Ok, never mind. I considered making excuses, but I have none really. I wanted to complain that with the huge splices, the one on the right I chose the pieces, but a good splicer can work around any hurdle, even it being things like that accursed Dialga sprite!

Oh also, time to properly give some credit. Back on sheet 23, we have a splice of Electrode and Starmie. Ottormonk was the one who created. So now you all have a user name to put with it.

Well good to see you drop by here pal. Perhaps after another 40 something sheets and over a year of sprite work you can give out some more comments =P

Ok, my inability to just stick to run project has once again taken over. The bright side is that this didn't take long at all, so I didn't waste much time. My friend and I were talking about how Metroid and Castlevania games aren't too different. We figured it wouldn't too hard to make it so Samus would be taking down creatures of the night. This lead to me thinking, and I figured, yeah, it would work. The idea I have would be that you could just take something like Aria of Sorrow, a game I'd assume would be easy to do a ROM hack of. Change the sprites to look like Samus. Then make it so you can only equip the gun weapon, but perhaps make it a little stronger. Samus is now shooting skeletons, axe armors, and even Dracula now. I mean a lot of the sprites would have to be scratched. Like the black panther super fast moving ability could become Samus's hyper speed run thing.

So just to test the waters, I attempted to make Samus in the style. What I got wasn't too bad I'd have to say. I tried it on a background too, and to me she seems similar enough to Soma. She stick out just a little weird due to the orange, but Soma has a pure white coat, so I think it's even. I don't know if I will continue this. I don't think it'd be too hard, and it would be kind of neat. However I do have other projects that probable need more attention to. This though as I said wasn't too hard, every now and again I might throw a few new frames in.
