Um, yeah, I looked at some of them...anyways, Chapter 3 is finally up! Yippee! [WARNING: LONG CHAPTER]

[spoiler=Why Black Magic Or Whatever it Is Should Be Outlawed]

I know I'm here for a purpose. So I figure when push comes to shove, I'd rather

tell my truth and let it go where it goes. –Rene Russo

“Now get ready for your doom…which shall come next turn.” I concluded. “I end my turn.

Barbatos blinked in surprise. Then he began to laugh. “That’s the best you got, kid?” He sneered. “I’ll teach you what the Darke Ones can do…My turn.” Barbatos drew a card. “Perfect. I’ll remove two cards from my Graveyard to summon Dark Nephthys!”

I gulped as a black dinosaur-like monster with huge black wings rose next to Dark Armed Dragon. It had 2400 attack and 1600 defense. Two Level 8 monsters???

“But I’m not done yet.” Barbatos grinned evilly and then spat onto the ground. “I activate Double Summon. This card allows me to Summon twice this turn. This means I can summon Witch Doctor of Chaos and then sacrifice it to Advance Summon… Dark General Freed!”

I could only watch as now a dark and brooding general with 2300 attack and 1700 defense joined the duo of dragons in front of Barbatos. What the… it almost felt like the darkness they were generating was real…

“Now!” Cried Barbatos. “Attack, my monsters! Bury that boy beneath your Darkeness!”

The dragon, writhing up and gathering black flame in its mouth, shot the first attack at my demonic angel. The dark flame was just nearing Attuning Seraphim when suddenly all stopped.

“What’s going on?” Barbatos asked.

I, though quite pale, managed to smirk at him. Something…something was clogging my throat… “It’s my Attuning Seraphim’s special effect.” I said in a small voice. “Once per turn, I can stop your attack by flipping a coin. Heads, my Attuning Seraphim lives, tails, it’s destroyed and I take damage equal to its attack points.” I held out a hand. “Got a coin on you, Barbatos?”

It was slightly amusing to watch him scowl and search his dark robes for a coin. But, it was also a little frightening. The look in his eyes…

“Here.” He growled, throwing a dented quarter over to me. Eew. It had a piece of gum stuck to it. “Okay, here goes…nothing!” I flipped the coin into the air.

“Yes!” I crowed. “Heads. That means my Attuning Seraphim lives!”

“Not for long.” Barbatos growled, and impossibly, the alleyway got darker. “I can still attack with my other two monsters!”

Dark General Freed and Dark Nephthys lurched forward, only to be stopped by my Attuning Seraphim. My demonic angel reached out, and suddenly a blast of flame like Dark Armed Dragon’s leaped out of his hand and smote both Dark General Freed and Dark Nephthys!

“Aaugh!” Barbatos shouted. “What just happened?”

“You ever here that saying, ‘if it doesn’t kill you, it will only make you stronger’? Well, this applied to my Attuning Seraphim. Every time he is attacked by a monster and survives, he gains attack and defense points equal to the attacking monsters’! And so, Attuning Seraphim gained the attack and defense points of Dark Armed Dragon, then Nephthys, then finally, he’s ended at Freed. Sadly, this will wear away by next turn, and you take no Battle Damage.” I said. “Still, my monster still survives!”

I drew a card. Ugh. Junk. Oh well, I had all the cards I needed already. “Okay,” I said. “I summon Quick Span-Knight in face-up Attack Position!”

A small gray and purple robot with a wrench for a head appeared next to Attuning Seraphim. It had 1000 attack points and 800 defense points.

“And I all think we know what’s going to happen next! Synchro Summon! I can summon a Level 7 monster (Seraphim-4 + Span-Knight-3= 7)! So now, go!”

Quick Span-Knight suddenly broke apart into three green rings, which began to circle around Attuning Seraphim.

“When all is bleak, creatures adapt and prevail! King of change, reveal yourself! Synchro Summon! Rise up, Metamorphic Dragon!"

(Why did I chant that? I dunno. Everyone was doing it nowadays.) With a flash of green light, Attuning Seraphim was gone. In his place was a large, humanoid dragon that was glimmering soft orange and had four long, luxurious wings. My magnificent Metamorphic Dragon! He had 2700 attack points and 2100 defense points.

“Now, I shall defeat you!” I said. Why did it seem like the darkness was clinging to me? “For now, I activate Metamorphic Dragon’s ability. Every time Metamorphic comes into contact with something, he is unaffected by it for the next turn. This means, if I use this trap card I have face-down on Metamorphic Dragon, he will be unaffected by your trap card when I attack this turn. So then-”

Suddenly I gasped. The darkness had suddenly throbbed and seemingly pushed against my body. It seemed to flow into my body, scalding every part of me. I shouted out. What was going on? It was like boiling lead was being poured down my throat…the darkness was killing me!

Through my half-shut eyelids, I could see Barbatos suddenly grin evilly. He looked at me, writhing as the painful darkness flowed through me. “You really think I would allow you to win this duel?” He said softly. “You honestly believe that I would allow a mere child beat me, a Darke One? I don’t think so. You should have known to not mess with unknown powers, boy…”

What the hell? This man, Barbatos, was trying to kill me! No…this couldn’t happen.

Damon! I am coming for you!

As quick as the pain had come, it was gone. I could suddenly control my own body again. I opened up my eyes, and saw Barbatos looking at me with a weird expression on his face. It looked almost like fear. “A Lighte Card? It cannot be!” He cried out, and I suddenly saw he wasn’t looking at me, he was looking at my Duel Disk. I looked down and nearly cried out myself.

My Metamorphic Dragon was glowing.

I slowly looked up, right into the face of my virtual Metamorphic Dragon. It had craned its neck until it was looking directly at me. It was also... glowing white.

I am here for you, Damon. I have taken over your Metamorphic Dragon. My Lighte deflects his Darkeness, but not for long! You must attack him!

Numbly, I nodded. I shouted out, “I activate Castle Walls, increasing my Metamorphic Dragon’s defense by 500!”

A castle wall rose to my chest, and for a second, Metamorphic Dragon glowed purple rather than white, and then suddenly thick armor attached itself to my Dragon. Metamorphic Dragon was now impervious to traps.

“Now, my Dragon!” I began to say, but then a cry rose from Barbatos.

“No!” He shouted. The darkness rose up and around him, like smoke from a fire. With a loud shout, he pushed his hands forward, and the darkness hit me.

“Ughh!” I remember saying. For a second, the boiling pain returned, than was gone once more. The darkness became no more than drifting fog to me. “Now, my Dragon!” I said once more. “Attack with Everlasting Blaze!”

My Metamorphic Dragon gave a triumphant cry and arched its head, as flickering flames formed in its mouth. With a mighty roar, the fire blasted out of my Dragon’s mouth and onto Barbatos.

“No!!!” He shouted for one last time, then he was lost within the blaze. And with his disappearance, the darkness was gone. All gone...

I realized I had flinched away from the fire and my eyes were closed. I slowly opened my eyes. The first things I saw was nothing. Really. Barbatos, the other Darke Ones, the Duel holograms- all gone. I turned and saw the girl was standing, rather shakily. Felling the same way, I still went to help her.

“Are you okay?” I asked. “What’s your name? Do you know those men?”

She looked at me warily, before saying, “Raina. My name is Raina. And those men-” She sniffled and turned away. “They killed my family.” She nearly collapsed in my arms.

“Er… I’m sorry…” I said awkwardly. “Why…why don’t you come with me.”

***

“Why, Damon?” Vanessa sighed. “Why is it, that when you ask me to help you out, I find you with some girl crying on your couch???”

“It’s not my fault!” I protested. It had only been a couple of minutes after helping Raina to my apartment that I had called her for help, and it was quite astonishing how quickly she had gotten here. “I found her like this in the street.” I fudged a little bit. I didn’t want all the details of what had happened coming out.

“Well, why did you do that?” Vanessa asked, flipping her black hair behind her head anxiously. She looked into my apartment worriedly, glancing at the red-eyed Raina sitting on the couch. For a second, I saw something like pity in her eyes. But then, she said, “You can’t just invite random people to come home with you!”

“It’s what we did with you.” I said stubbornly. True story. Me and my buddy Trey- who was watching Raina from the kitchen, by the way- were walking down the street when he heard the noises of a fight from another street. We had turned the corner and saw Vanessa and a street gang. For a second, Trey and I had thought we needed to help Vanessa, but then we saw Vanessa was whooping the gang’s butt. We still helped out to send the gang on their way though. After that, Vanessa, Trey and I had sat down and she told us her story, about how she had lived on the streets for years, but with all the gangs becoming more and more violent, she needed a place to stay. It was an impulsive decision, but me and Trey (who had very rich parents, by the way) helped Vanessa obtain an apartment next to ours. We had been sharing an apartment in those days, Trey and I, like we still do. Anyways, back to the story-

“Come on, Vanessa, let’s at least help her.” I said.

She looked at me askance, her dark eyes probing into my mind, searching for why I wanted Raina to stay. Finally, she gave up and said, “Fine. We’ll see how we can help her, and then send her on her way.” She looked at me seriously, then strode into the apartment. Trey looked at us from atop a kitchen chair as he came in, silently asking what we were going to do. I shared a glance with Vanessa and Trey for a second, then I sat down next to Raina. She was sitting with her face in her hands, her elbows on her knees.

“You okay?” I asked quietly, and she looked up at me. She looked much older than 16, with her green sleeveless shirt and her long plaited skirt.

“I’m…fine…no, I’m not.” She said, a tear falling down her cheek. “It’s just…I came home and found these men over the lifeless bodies of my parents…What am I supposed to feel like?…sob…” She looked away.

I looked back at Vanessa, helpless. She gestured angrily, showing that I should proceed. I rolled my eyes and turned back to Raina. “So, uh, is there any way I can help?...” I said weakly.

“…I don’t know…I have so many questions…”

You and my both, kid. “So, you have any idea why these guys, uh…” I faltered.

“No. I heard something about Yu-Gi-Oh cards…but that was it, that’s all I heard before they saw me and tried to run for it.” She said, looking at my Duel Disk, which was still on my arm. “If I had known cards were what they wanted, I would have given them a taste of my own cards…shoved right down their throats!” She said furiously.

“Ah, let’s calm down now.” I said, holding up my hands, which got an angry glare from Raina. “So, you are a duelist?” I had to ask, even though I could feel Vanessa waiting impatiently behind me.

“Yeah…If I had known a duel was all that was needed to get rid of them, I would have brought my own cards and dueled them.”

“Yeah, if even I could have defeated them, you probably would have no problem,” I joked, and Raina smiled slightly. Ah, finally…she was opening up.

And then of course, it all went wrong.

For a second, all that could be heard was a subtle tapping on the apartment wall that faced the street. I half stood up, and then suddenly-

Boom! The wall exploded open and Raina was flung into me and we both hit the wall next to the T.V. Out of the corner of my eye, I could see Trey go down beneath the counter, and I couldn’t see Vanessa at all. And then, three figures stepped through the hole…wait a second…three cloaked figures.

Damn those Darke Ones.

The first one threw off his hood when he stepped into the room. With a horrifying realization, I realized that I knew him- He was the gaunt, almost skinless man I had seen in my dream! The other two also stepped forward and shed their cloaks, and I vaguely remembered them from the dream also. One was a dark-skinned woman wearing a dress of red and black, with a black cloth covering her face. Over the cloth, evil eyes looked out. The other was a slightly stooped man wearing pure-black, glasses flashing out from under his dark hood. They waiting for the man respectfully as he walked forward, past the kitchen and into the living room area. The gaunt man’s eyes flickered around the room before settling on me. He smiled, a horrible, almost toothless smile.

“Hello, Damon.” He said in a crisp British accent. “Barbatos sends his regards.”

Bakugan is okay but the main character is enthusiastic about having a living toy and the bakugan isn't open and is pretty much always grumpy(at first).

P.S.Try it go to http://www.cartoonnetwork.com/tv_shows/bakugan/index.html Click on full episodes season 1 go all the way down and click you're watching it!

What I meant was I saw some of that show, but didn't really like it. What I want to see now is the connection between it and my fanfic. Because I am confuzzled.

By the apparent connection.

Okay, I get it now- wait a second, TOY?!?!?! Yugioh cards aren't toys for little kids to play with...oh wait, yes they are.

I probably should write the next chapter of the story, for those of you wondering why I haven't done that yet, but once again, schoolwork is getting in my way. :/

Well, here it is, Chapter 4. Another long one. This chapter is from Vanessa's point of view, which you can kinda tell by the VANESSA written at the top of the chapter, so yeah...

[spoiler=A Rather Stupid Bet]

Beware of him that is slow to anger; for when it is long coming, it is the stronger when it comes, and the longer kept. – Francis Quarles

***

Vanessa

Some people have no respect for walls nowadays. Even though there’s a door just a few feet away, some people just have to come in a more flashy way.

This strange, unnatural thought was the only thing going through my mind when the wall blew in, strangely enough. It probably came from the unreality of the situation. The wall, the wall had just been blown in, and- some people were coming through. As the blast of the explosion had ricocheted around the room, I had been thrown into the wall, dislodging some dust and a rather nice picture frame, so the angle I was looking from was a weird enough angle to begin with, but there was no mistaking it- Those long black things were definitely people stepping into the now dust-covered living room. I watched silently, in horror, as one of them, the tallest one, moved to where Damon and that girl had been sitting before. I watched as the man looked down to where I could only presume Damon and the girl’s were lying, thrown by the blast as I was.

Once again, I could only watch as the man said, “Hello, Damon. Barbatos sends his regards.”

And that was a little too weird for me. I remember a dull moan emerging through my throat at that moment. The man whipped his head around and looked at me. For the first time, I could see the man’s face. It was long and gaunt, with the skin stretched so tightly it looked like it would tear apart at the seams. A malicious grin spread across his face as he looked down at me, and he looked behind him to where the other two black cloaks were standing.

“Nix, Jelazael, take the others.” He commanded. “Nix, the girl here. Jelazael, the pair over there.”

With silent nods of the head, the man and woman drifted away. The man, presumably Nix, moved towards his master, coming for the girl, I realized. And the woman stepped towards me, an evil glint in her eyes. Heavy, dark hair fell from her shoulders down to her waist, nearly concealing the beautiful face that sneered at me. A dress of red and black whipped back and forth as she moved, and at that moment my leaden brain finally saw what was happening. The woman, Jelazael, was coming for me.

Not good.

Instincts saved me. Reactions, borne of my life on the tough New Domino streets, suddenly acted within me. Before I even knew what was happening, I was on my feet and I had backed up swiftly, almost putting the door to my back. “Who are you guys?” I asked tremulously. “Why are you- don’t move, sister, unless you want to lose that arm,” I warned as Jelazael moved forward suddenly, hand outstretched. As she hastily pulled it in, I said, “Why are you here?”

The man raised an eyebrow. “Why, didn’t Damon tell you?” He purred. “We are the Darke Ones.”

The Darke Ones…that seemed to ring a bell, but not from something Damon had told me…Ugh. I couldn’t remember…

“Okay, then,” I said warily, keeping an eye on that Jelazael woman.

“What are you doing with Damon and us?”

“He… has interfered with business he is not supposed to.” Later, it almost seemed like he was about to say something different, but at that moment I could only think, God, Damon! That is so like you! Always sticking your nose into stuff you shouldn’t!!!

I opened my mouth against to ask another question, but Jelazael beat me to the punch.

“Enough of this talk, Cerberus!” She snarled. “We cannot waste time, and you know that!” Unexpectedly, moving like a demon, Jelazael moved forward and sunk her fist into my stomach. My mouth forming an O, I doubled over.

“Not so tough now, huh, Vanessa?” Jelazael whispered into my ear. “You- oof!” She suddenly gasped as my head suddenly shot up, connecting with her own head in a dull thud.

“Aaugh!!” She said, staggering back and clutching her forehead. But I wasn’t done yet. I followed my hit with a kick to the kneecap. As she doubled over like I had seconds ago, I darted behind her and grabbed her arm, twisting it painfully behind her back. Out of the corner of my eye, I could see Nix lurch forward, moving to help Jelazael. But halfway across the room, he was intercepted by Trey, who was coughing and covered in dust, but nevertheless still dangerous, as his headlock around Nix proved. As Jelazael tried to get out of my arm twist, I put a foot in front of her feet and let go. Not expecting it, she fell forward, over my foot and into the wall. I left her on the floor and into the kitchen, where I grabbed Damon’s baseball bat, which was hidden on top of the fridge. Trey and I were dominating the fight, and I had decided it was time to send these clowns packing. But I had forgotten about the man, Cerberus.

“Από τις σκοτεινές δυνάμεις μου καλούν τώρα, θα πρέπει να συμμετάσχουν σε τελετές μαζί μου!”

Black energy raced across my vision, and suddenly a transparent black wall separated me from the other side of the room. Baffled, I moved forward and hit it with the bat. Nothing happened.

On the other side of the wall, Jelazael gave me a baleful look and rose to her feet. I looked around, the wall extended around Trey too, separating him from Nix. As I took the sight in, I saw the irregular circle didn’t just surround me and Trey, but Cerberus too…!

“What’s going on?” Trey shouted at Cerberus. Cerberus ignored him, and examined the wall intently.

“Nicely made, Cerberus,” He said to himself, suddenly smiled. Then, he finally turned to Trey and I. “Hello, Trey, Vanessa,” He addressed us, and the use of my name sent an electric shock down my spine. How did these people know my name?

“I did not come here to engage in battle,” He continued. “But unfortunately, your unexpected attack has forced me to change plans.” Cerberus raised his arm, and dark energy coalesced around it and formed a… Duel Disk?

“Now duel me.” He said. “Two on one.”

What? A Duel? “Why do you want duel Trey and me?”

“It is the how battle is …normally conducted with us.” He said coolly. “This wall will not disappear without you dueling me. So I’m afraid you have no choice.”

I shared a look with Trey. As one, we raised our arms, which had Duel Disks on them like Cerberus’. We had no choice, but, damn, I needed to talk with Damon, if these were people he was hanging with nowadays…

“Good!” Cerberus said. “Now, let’s make a little bet. You both will have one turn to set up defenses. Then, I will take one turn and beat you both. My monsters will duel twice, mind you. So, if at least one of you survives after one turn, me and my associates will leave immediately. If you both are defeated…well, we will talk about that if it happens.”

Cerberus smiled indulgently.

I felt another shiver go down my spine, but that just increased the venom in my next statement. “Fine,” I spat. “We’ll duel, right Trey?” A silent nod.

“Okay then, I’ll go first.” I said. “I activate Emergency Teleport which allows me to Special Summon my Psychic Commander (1400/800)! Now I summon D.D. Survivor (1800/200) in face-up attack mode, and activate Dimensional Fissure.”

A small humanoid with four eyes and in a silvered UFO, with a tall man in a long, dark/light brown cloak appeared on my field, which a raging maelstrom appeared in my spell zone.

“Now, a Tuner and another monster on the field, I think you know what that means…Synchro Summon!”

Psychic Commander stiffened up and looked forward, beginning to sparkle. Instantly, he broke into three rings, and begun circling around D.D. Survivor.

“Creature presiding over the deep abyss, come and fulfill your purpose! Master of the jungles, powered by a strong metal heart! Join me now, Golden Alloy Lion!”

A blast of green light flashed over D.D. Survivor, and suddenly the man was gone. A large, gleaming gold lion stood there, with glowing red eyes, and skin made from metal. It had… 2600 attack and 2300 defense!

“Now, as you know, Dimensional Fissure makes it so D.D. Survivor and Psychic Commander are removed from play, instead of going to the Graveyard. And that helps my Lion’s special effect! Since there are an even number of cards removed from play, I can draw three cards and if anyone of them is a monster, I can summon it to the field!” I drew three cards, and grinned. “Two monsters! So, I now summon Mobius the Frost Monarch (2400/1000) and Breaker the Magical Warrior (1600/1000) in defense mode!”

A large guy in white armor with an extravagant cape and a magician in red-gold armor appeared next to my Lion, both with arms crossed and on one knee.

“Kay, that ends my turn.” I said grudgingly, looking to Trey.

“My turn,” Trey said, drawing a card. “I summon Assault Wheel (2300/0) in face-up attack mode. Now, I activate Steel Molding, allowing me to increase my Wheel’s Level by the amount of one card in hand. I’ll choose my Dreadnaught Blade, which increases my Wheel’s Level by 3. And finally, I’ll end by equipping my Assault Wheel with Kaiser Gun, and laying one card face-down.”

Assault Wheel, a large red robot with a gigantic wheel for legs, appeared, only to be equipped with a large, shining gun on his back. A small, but muscular creature clad in rusty plates and having a long rust-covered blade appeared behind him, with several of its plates flying off and attaching themselves to Assault Wheel.

Cerberus looked from my field to Trey’s, sizing up our monsters.

“Pathetic.” He finally said. “This is the best you can do? Well, looks like you four will have to come with me then.” He said, looking from me and Trey to Raina and Damon, who were watching the duel from the couch with mixed fear and anxiousness.

“Hey,” Trey protested. “You haven’t won yet!”

“But I will. It is inevitable.” Cerberus said, casually drawing a card. “Want to find out how? It starts with my spell card, Negligent Doomsday!”

With a sudden feeling of fear, I watched as the virtual card rose up and came to life. Fire and darkness blasted out of the card, heading for our monsters with an almighty roar.

“By sacrificing half of my lifepoints,” Cerberus said over the roar of his card, “I can toss a coin for every card on the field. If its heads, that monster is destroyed. If tails, it is still destroyed and replaced by a monster of the same type within my deck!”

“W-what?” I stuttered.

Cerberus smiled. “Just watch.”

I did indeed watch, and I watched with an increasing horror as the tide of darkness and fire swept over my cards, and all of them disappeared. Mobius and Breaker were not replaced, but Lion was replaced by a large and bone-covered elephant-like creature with huge horns. I looked over to Trey’s field, and I saw his Wheel had been replaced by an android that was made up of blackened scraps of metal.

“Hmm, two out of four. Not bad.” Cerberus scratched his chin. “So now you have my Gravity Behemoth (2300/2000) and my Apocalypse Remnants (2000/400) on your field. Now, I summon Black Dread Mind (0/0) to my field.”

Black mist billowed across Cerberus’ field and out of the mist a skull with four eyes came forth.

“Okay, now then, my Black Dread Mind’s effect comes into play,” Cerberus said crisply. “This allows me to…take control of all the monsters on your fields, because they came from my deck!”

Black Dread Mind’s eyes suddenly glowed red, and Gravity Behemoth and Apocalypse Remnants moved to Cerberus’ field!

“They can’t attack and return to your field at the end of the turn,” Cerberus continued. “That is, if I didn’t have a card that well let them attack, which will be how I will destroy you.”

He let this sink in. I shared a horrified look with Trey. We had no monsters on our fields. Since both monsters could attack twice, their combined total would be enough to give more than 8000 points on damage. Our only hope was Trey’s face-down card…

“And if you fine fellow are thinking of using that face-down card you have, you are sadly mistaken. I will place Solemn Judgement face-down, so when you activate that card, I will be able to stop it.” He smiled at us yet again. “I’m afraid you have no chance of winning the duel and the bet.” The smiled on his face suddenly turned frighteningly cruel. “And then, once you come with me, you shall die. Now Apocalypse Remnants, Gravity Behemoth! Attack both Trey and Vanessa!”

It was all over. The darkness thickened to the point of where I could barely see, and the two monsters jumped forward, coming to bring mine and Trey’s literal doom…I had heard what he had said clearly enough. He was going to kill us…

And then, like a light bulb being turned on, I suddenly had hope again. My Duel Disk began to glow, and I heard a voice, a deep masculine voice.

Vanessa…I am a Lighte Card. And I am here to help.

Oh no. The monsters were getting close-

You must use the effect of my card. Of Golden Alloy Lion. Use it, Vanessa! Remember the second part of the effect-

The first of the monsters was upon me. Gravity Behemoth raised his claw to strike, and I suddenly remembered. The effect! Of course!

“I activate the effect of Golden Alloy Lion!” I gasped. “By taking four cards from the removed from play area and placing them in my Graveyard, I can destroy one card on the field!”

Cerberus’ face suddenly tightened. “You don’t mean to-”

“I destroy Solemn Judgement.”

Golden Alloy Lion rose up onto the field. A light was around him, for some reason, and shocking me, he turned to wink at me. Before I could comprehend a virtual monster had winked at me, he had turned and roared. The face-down card on Cerberus’ field disappeared.

“Now, Trey.” I said. “Activate your face-down.”

Cerberus face contorted in rage. “No. You cannot-”

“I activate Mass-Produced Steel Trap.” Trey said shakily, who looked really pale. “This allows me to equip your monsters from attacking me this turn.”

Two steel bear traps suddenly rose and trapped the monsters feet! They…were prevented from moving. Which means…the turn was over. We had survived, and had won the bet…

“Well.” Cerberus’ voice said, choucked with rage. “So you survived. This

wall makes me fulfill my end of bet, so I will leave. But next time- and there will be a next time- you all will die.”

With one final look at me, he turned away. As he did, the monster and cards all faded away and disappeared. The duel was over.

Cerberus picked up Jelazael and grabbed Nix’s forearm, watched by our fearful eyes. He turned to look at me, for one last time.

“You might want to keep an eye on who uses your cards.” He warned. “They are quite…valuable.”

The darkness thickened around the trio, shielding them from view for one second. And when the darkness had faded away again, then they were gone.

“My god.” Damon said, shakily getting to his feet, while helping Raina to hers. “They…they were going to kill us.”

Yes, they were about to. I can’t believe it…these people wanted to kill us, just because Damon had helped a girl get away from them, or something like that. Just because we interfered in their business ever so slightly, they were going to slit our throats.

“These people need to be stopped.” I said, my voice filled with rage. I was thinking of what had happened. They had attacked Raina. They had destroyed Damon’s apartment. They had almost killed us. “We…we need to stop them.”

“Why us?” Raina said. “Why don’t we contact the police, or, or…” She faltered at the look on my face.

“Who included you in any of this?” I asked harshly.

Damon opened his mouth angrily, but Raina spoke before him. “I have to be here. These people killed my family. I need vengeance.”

“Fine, whatever. I’ll let it go now, but we’ll talk about you coming with us later. We cannot contact the police, just yet. Will they believe us? We’re college-age kids. Darke cards? People who disappear into mist? They’ll cart us off to an asylum.” I concluded, and Raina looked stumped by what I had said.

“But what are we supposed to do?” Raina asked. “As you said, we’re a couple of college-age kids, as you said.”

“We just need to find some dirt on these guys.” Damon chimed in.

“Something bad, something criminal that we can show the police. Something that will get the police involved.”

I nodded. “Yeah. That’s all we need to do-”

“But how are we going to find these guys?” Trey interrupted. “Finding stuff on them is all good and all, but how are we going to find them?”

“Like this.” I said, and I bended down to the floor. I picked up the small, white card that I had seen fall out of Jelazael’s cloak when I had punched her. I turned it over. Next to a logo of a setting sun were letters written in silver font. It read-

Mirage Industries.

Below it was an address and phone number.

“We’ll start here.” I said, holding up the business card for them all to see. I looked around at the hard, determined faces of Damon, Trey, and yes, Raina.

“We’ll start here,” I said again. “At Mirage Industries.”

END OF CHAPTER 4

Notes

Yep. The gang is on the case, hunting up the Darke Ones. The baddies better look out...and don't you think that was a stupid bet Cerberus made? (Oh yeah, Zzuxon, I decided for Eddy to have a codename, like the other Darke Ones. Its Nix, if you hadn't guessed.)

If any of them are monsters, you can Summon it to your side of the field in face-up Defense Mode. If there are 4 or more cards removed from play (This card must be included), you can place them in your Graveyard to destroy one card on the field. Rest of Effect Unknown

Steel Molding/Spell

Kaiser Gun/Spell/Equip

Effect Unknown (Has something to do with Level Stars; Look for it in future chapters.)

Negligent Doomsday/Spell/Continuous

When this card is activated, pay half of your Life Points. For every card on your opponent's side of the field, flip a coin. If the coin lands on heads, destroy the designated monster. If the coin lands on tails, destroy the monster and place one monster from your own deck, of the same type, in place of the designated monster. When this card is destroyed, destroy all of your cards on your opponent's side of the field and summon back to the field the original monster.

Apocalypse Remnants/DARK/Machine/2000/400

This android was formed out of the remains of machines destroyed by the Apocalypse. It now wanders the wastelands, looking for signs of life.

Black Dread Mind/Dark/Fiend/Effect/0/0

Mass-Produced Steel Trap/Trap

This card can only be activated during your opponent's Battle Phase. All monsters on your opponents side of the field do not deal Battle Damage this turn.
