I must disagree...I feel that regardless of the situation' date=' offense will beat any opponent...

I'm the same way. I rely on momentum to destroy me opponents, slowly building up a power base as I expand my territory, then bring all of my forces in at the 'headqaurters' of the enemy. I also usually save al my trump cards for this final assault. For example, in LotR: Battle for Middle-Earth 2, I would summon the Balrog, and the Dragon at the same time I send in all of my heroes and - I have him - Sauron, leading with a massive army.

And then you would be repeled by my iron defense.

I'm slow to get started but once I'm ready to go on the offense' date=' I win 94% of the time.

the other 7% ends in a draw.

I'm also slow to start, but I find I have an easy time expanding my borders and reinforcing each 'layer' of new territory. For example, I'll swarm a an outpost and take over, then quickly build towers and other defenses around it, keeping the invaders up front to protect the towers as they're built. While the same strategy won't precisely work the same in all situations - least ofa l real life - the overall mechanics of it are the same.

True, but I only expand when necessary. Mainly because I need more resources to continue production. Then I swarm a resource node, set up a defense position, and harvest.

Not even the almighty Zergling Rush of Stracraft could beat me.

I prefer swarm tactics, myself. You wouldn't believe how easy it was to kick butt with the Goblins in LotR: BfME2...

I expand slowly, and this usually leaves a lot of open space in between my bases becasue it would be stupid to spread my troops behind my lines. This is why it's important to focus on a few choke points, where I keep the bulk of my armies, and uses towers to lock up the rest, relying on interlocking fields of fire to destroy anything dumb enough to rush me. Stupid AI on that one...I once built over a hundred towers over the map, ans I watched Warg Riders rush past towers that shot themt o death. By the time they started attacking, they were down to one or two crippled riders.

Accepted.

Aaah, swarm tactics. They are quite nifty, of course, if you are lucky enough to control a large enough city. Their shock and awe power is impressive to say the least and against short ranged soldiers they are pretty much unstoppable. Their prime weakness, however, is that at the cost of being easy to produce they will often be poorly trained in many aspects. As such, if a swarm isn't large enough it will not be able to weather a long ranged assault. I find hit and run and terror tactics quite fitting for swarms, punch a hole through the enemy's wall and hit where they most hurt, then dart out again with the survivors.

Well, in this particualr case, I relied partly on the Goblins poisoning abilities to help, combined with their sheer numbers and the ease of production. Backed by some towers to soften approaching enemies and some heavier firepower mixed in, I won pretty easily, all things considered.

I fight using guerilla tacitcs, while maintaining a strong defense. While my enemy is busy trying to batter down my defensive line, I sneak a few troops into his base (example: Drop in a few Marines when playing Stracraft) attack his resource gatherers and supply buildings. Once they start rushing back to base you pull the troops out watch him swarm into the base only to find his economy wreaked. After that I hit his outposts, then I take 75% of my force and launch a large assualt against his base.

I suppose I'll discuss my tactics in detail, this time around...

I build about 4 or 5 Goblins teams, and summon a Hero unit. I use this group to take over a nearby resource point, and focus on building my economy first. After that, I build more Goblin teams, and summon more Heroes, usually a hero to each set of Goblins, and set them to a Control Group, so I can pres a hotkey to jump around to them. I use this to press several fronts at once, slowly adding towers and other buildings in between to reinforce my groups, thus leaving me without he whole 'supply line' issue of having to get troops from one end of the map to the other.

I usually end up with more a half dozen Goblins, a few cavalry, a hero, and one or two trolls to a group.
