Brushfire
Being as the other thread was locked under invalid reasoning. What is an emulator? An emulator is software that imitates a game console by matching the coding necessary to run the games. They are safe, and legal. Popular emulators include: no$gba (DS), Virtual Boy Advance (GBA), Project 64 (N64), Dolphin (GC and Wii), pSX (PS1, and PS2 with pSX2). What is a ROM?A ROM is a game ripped off a cartridge (an ISO is ripped from a disc), and can be ran using an emulator. a ROM is legal only if you own the game yourself, and are therefore subjective. I won't provide any links to ROM or ROM sites, you can Google this stuff yourself. Re-reading the other thread, I would like to stress that ROM's are not illegal. If I go rip a game from a cartridge I have and put it on my PC it does not become illegal. What is illegal is sharing games that others do not own-- if you own the game, downloading it is 100% legal. I heard you can make your own game using ROM's or something?Yes, this is called ROM Hacking and is very popular on sites such as PokéCommunity. The most popular games that are easy to hack are Pokémon and Mario, being as others require things like HEX and ASM hacking (you can Google this or learn them later, you might not need to). When ROM Hacking, you should always release them in an IPS patch and not ROM format, as that can be illegal. You can research on this elsewhere if you want to learn more. Help? Questions?Feel free to comment in this thread and ask. Don't post links to ROM's like a retard; that risky even if they aren't on YCM's servers (though if they aren't on YCM's server it's safe as YCM cannot be sued for external links). Dark
zSNES for SNES. You forgot that one. Emulators never are illegal, but I have to say that a majority of ROMs are probably illegal. Mostly because, you own the game. That's great. You rip it and put it on your computer. That's great. But once you start sharing that with other people, there could be some legal issues there. And Flame will probably lock this, but oh well. Working on a Super Mario World ROMHack at the moment. You'll need three items to start: zSNES, Lunar Magic (Google it, it's legal) and a ROM of Super Mario World. Figure it out from their. How do I make something an IPS patch? x_x

The majority of ROM's aren't really illegal, they're only illegal when people download commercial ROM's when they don't own the game. Flame has no right to lock this; I've provided no illegal links, only discussion. If this is locked then my ROM Hack should also be. Use Lunar Magic to patch it... it's really self-explanatory. *murmurs* FD' date=' PM me before you lock this. I set my own limitations, you didn't set them for me.
-SupernovA-
I'm pretty sure a moderator can lock any thread they damn well please (I'm sure they could find some half-a##ed reason to do so if they felt like it). I used a Playstation Emulator to play through FF8 again because my sister stole/sold all my f*cking PS1 games while I was in Florida.

And I would prove them wrong using logical reasoning so they unlock it. Well, with my threads at least. Lol, I mostly use VBA for ROM Hacking and Project 64 when I'm bored (cba to get out my N64 and set it up).

TAG
I use a few emulators on my Wii (SNES, Genesis, NES, and N64, although the last one is still in its betas, I believe). I've also emulated Mother 3, since we all know we ain't ever gonna see it the US. The only ROM hacked game I've played is Rockman No Constancy. It's cool, but pretty friggin' hard. As for all this legal stuff, I always wind up seeing different responses. Some say it's illegal no matter what, some say it's legal only if you back it up yourself, some say that as long as you own the game, it's ok. I don't know, but I don't care. JadenxAtemYAOI
The only games I play on emus are KHFM 1 & 2 and KH BBS on the PCSX2. (yes with the right amount of time and converting you can play BBS on a PCSX2)Now for the VBA, I play KH: COM and Pokemon Emerald(trying to get the Munchlax data)On the NO$GBA: I play Platinum, HG, SS, KH Days, and Yugioh SA 09. The ones I hack for are: Pokemon Platinum, HG, SS, KH 1 and 2, KH days, and Emerald. If you want to learn how to do what I call "camper hacking" then I'll be glad to teach you. -Griffin
Some people pay money for games? O.OEh, realistically, I would if I could, but my family is dead broke right now, so I emulate WCx, Digimon World x and Metroid x. Yeah, I stick to my favourites. .Frostpaw
I have some old NES roms. I <3 the NES version of Super Mario Bros 3. EDIT: I also have no$gba. I play the NES roms on a NES emulator on my DSi.
Poseidon©
Eh, roms are okay. I consider it legal when people use it for their personal use. I'm actually planning to do a Let's Play soon on no$GBA.
Cin
I've only played Crystal and Yellow as ROMs, the first because my GSC will not save, and the latter I just wanted to play on the PC because I didn't want to find my Gameboy
Kiyo
I've had some fun hacking the original NES Zelda, since I don't have the knowledge, time and tools to hack anything higher than NES games (except, well, Pokemon games).(Which sucks because I was hoping to translate RPG Tsukuru DS >.>) I used to use ROMs a lot, but meh, now I use them to rip sprites and such. Still fun to play some old PSX games though.
Flame Dragon
Their is nothing wrong with a simple discussion on ROMs and Emulation. The only reason I would lock this is if people start linking to ROMs. I've only ever emulated Mother 3 because TAG sent me links to where I can get the emulator and the ROM. Side from that I'm just to lazy to go and hunt down ROMs for games. The fact that my computer is crap doesn't help.
-SupernovA-
Why would people need to link when a simple google search can find almost any ROM or ISO you want?
Ecoboy1324
Why would people need to link when a simple google search can find almost any ROM or ISO you want? Becouse that assumes that your average person doesnt need google to google how to google.
