Kamen Rider

So' date=' do you think I can post a power rangers thread in this section?

[/quote']

Nope. Power Rangers was filmed in New Zealand,(atleast anything from wild force to R.P.M.) a place that is distinctly not Japan.

However, Super Sentai, the japanese equivalent of the rangers, would hold more topical to this board.

Also, this thread is for discussion of Japanese KR series, not the ill-fated Dragon Knight or the monstrosity of Saban's Masked Rider.

Masked Rider is the only one I watched. I didn't like it...

Do you think Godzilla movies fit in this section better than in others?

Not neccesarily. Unless Godzilla was adapted into a japanese TV show.

And oh god, if all you watched is masked rider, than you poor thing...

Imagine if someone showed you the campy 1960's batman show, and you had no prior knowledge of batman. Then that person says "They made a movie of this", and hands you The Dark Knight.

Kamen Rider is kinda like that to Masked Rider.

What a nice way to copy from TV Tropes there.

To me' date=' I always think of Power Rangers when I look at this. What distinguishes this from Power Rangers/Super Sentai?

[/quote']

What can I say? It's my favorite analogy, and it worked here. ;)

First off, the hero is usually all alone. Also, the stories are generally much darker, gorier, and all around more serious. No giant robots, either.

Leave it up to this Japanese boy.

1. Power Rangers is always a squad starting with 3 to 5 members.

2. New members will appear from time to time, and in the end 1 or 2 new members will join.

3. Each Power Ranger has his or her own Color, the main character red, the secondary blue, and the third yellow. The colors from 4 vary within the series.

4. Of the starting members, if 3, 1 is female. If 5, 2 are.

5. Each Power Ranger has a robot of the color he/she represents. They combine together to create a gigantic humanoid robot.

6. The antagonist of the series is usually a gigantic alliance of monsters, and there are 1 to 3 gigantic bosses. The bosses create new minor antagonists, who attack humans and are killed by the Power Rangers.

1. Kamen Riders are most of the time not a squad, but separate members who fight each other for supremacy, while also defeating enemies. Heisei Kamen Riders (new ones) tend to be like this. However, in the first Kamen Riders, there was only 1 Kaken Rider.

2. New Kamen Riders will appear many times throughout the year. One good example is Ryuki. More than 10 Kamen Riders fought each other for supremacy.

3. Each Kamen Rider have a color. However, the second is not always blue.

4. Almost all Kamen Riders are male.

5. Kamen Riders have robots or simular things to help, but they do not combine most of the time. One exception is Oujya (an antagonist Kamen Rider in the Ryuki Series, who killed 2 other Riders to take over their machines, and combined them with his Cobra).

6. The antagonist is also a gigantic organization of monsters, but most of the time, in the Kamen Riders new monsters are not created, but exist from the start.

I like Kabuto the best, has the best storyline and fights.

4. No Kamen Riders are female.

Kivaala says hi ;)

and also, I love Kabuto. Tendou and Kagami's relationship was extremely interesting. Plus, the armor designs kicked ass.

Any specific ones you recommend? The Ryuki one sounds pretty interesting.

Double is airing right now, and it's a blast. Easy to get into, and one of the funnest series in a while.

Kabuto is also a nice intro series, with great suit design, story, and memorable characters.

Den-O is lighthearted, but really fun. It's more comedic than any other series, and one of my personal favorites.

Kuuga is awesome, but is not yet subbed.

Ryuki is pretty good, if you don't mind the card gimmick. The 13 riders concept is nice, but most of the riders outside of the main few just appear for a few episodes to move the plot along, and than die.

Agito, I have not yet watched, but I hear it's one of the best.

Kiva has some awesome suit design, but at times it feels like a J-Drama.

Hibiki is wierd. It originally wasn't supposed to be a Kamen Rider show at all, but eventually evolved into one in the production phase. Is pretty great until the mid 30s, when the new writers funked it all up.

Faiz is easily the darkest series. It definately has the best villians of the series.

Decade is the series you should watch last. It involves the main character travelling to parallel worlds to fight all of the Heisei riders.

So ya. Those are all the Heisei, or 1999-now riders. The older, 70s through 80s riders I wouldn't reccomend to people who aren't diehards. Except for maybe Black RX, if you can tolerate late 80's special effects.
