[spoiler=Plot]

A government conspiracy has caused a disease to sweep over the US. This disease turns people into cannabalistic, mindless, decaying...zombies. A group of teenage survivors must fight their way through to the capital and save what is left of their dying world, before it spreads through the entire planet.

[spoiler=Chapter 1]

The winds raged and the thunder roared in the distance on the moonlit September night. It’s the perfect night to see a horror movie; but living one doesn’t seem like a very enjoyable Saturday night. That wasn’t the case for three friends. Three friends that just happened to go see a movie the night it all started. Three friends that didn’t realize how much their lives were about to change, just because they decided to leave home.

As they walked out of the theater, from their now favorite zombie movie of all time, Dominic Spenner, a 6 foot tall behemoth of a guy, stretched his arms and took a sip of his soda, his curly brown hair blowing in the wind. Callum Toal, a skinny but obviously muscular guy, took out his phone and started texting. And Bradlee VanRavenswaay, short girl with even shorter black hair, grabbed a handful of popcorn.

“Great movie, lots of blood, lots and lots of blood.” Dominic said. He paused for a second before he realized something was wrong. “Where are my parents? They should be here by now.” Dominic pulled out his phone and dialed a number. He waited and hung up. “No answer.” He dialed another number, and waited. He then hung up again and put his phone away. “No answer on my dad’s either. Guess were walking. Isn’t too far away.”

“Great, just great.” Callum sighed.

“Oh, get over it you wimp.” Brad joked.

The group started walking and about ten minutes later a strange man hidden in the shadows approached them; the only thing they could see was the glimmer of a knife.

“Guys, careful.” Dominic said and pointed to the knife. “Probably a drunk.” The group kept walking and when they came within a foot they saw that the man was covered with scabs and open sores. Blood was dripping all over his body and his eyes were almost non-existent.

“Creepy. Just keep moving guys.” Brad whispered.

“Don’t worry; I don’t have any plans of dying today.” Callum said.

The man let out a long groan and charged at the group, raising the knife just high enough that it would easily stab any of them in the stomach. He headed straight for Callum. Callum dodged at the last second, escaping with only his shirt getting cut.

“Crap, Run!” Dominic yelled and swiftly raised his knee into the crotch of the mysterious man. Brad picked up the knife that fell from his hand the group then ran away and didn’t stop. Faintly hearing the groans of the slow-moving man behind them the trio ran into a small gas station and immediately headed to the back near an emergency exit.

"Dude that was frickin creepy. What’s goin' on?" Brad asked.

"Don't look at me" Callum put his hands up defensively. "I'm just as weirded out as you guys." Callum whispered with his faint British accent.

"Zombies. I'm sure of it." Dominic stated.

"What?! A zombie apocalypse? Seriously, that guy was probably just really sick and drunk and out to get someone." Brad glared at Dom, trying to act tough despite being five foot three.

Callum opened his mouth to say something when all three heard the distinctive groans of the "zombie" guy coming from the man running the cash register.

Brad looked back at Callum and Dom.

She dropped her voice, "Zombies all right."

"We're stuck in a gas station with a zombie. Our only weapon is a knife you grabbed from another zombie and if we go through the emergency exit we'll set off the alarm and attract all the zombies within a mile radius." Callum whispered fearfully. Brad nodded and handed the knife to Callum, knowing he would be the most effective with it.

“Well, three of us, one of him.” Dominic paused and walked around. He stopped when he reached two spinning chip racks. He picked the two up and shook of all the chips. He handed one to Brad and kept the other to himself. “Callum, when I say, open the door. We’ll bust through with these and we’ll just keep running to my house.”

“Got it.” Brad and Callum both said in unison.

Callum got ready by the door, his hand on the handle. Dominic gave him a thumbs up and Callum swiftly opened the door. Brad and Dominic ran at the zombie, pointing the end of the chip holder at him. The ends penetrated his stomach and blood poured out but he showed no signs of pain. The zombie kept walking towards them, still groaning.

“Crap, that ain’t natural.” Callum said in disgust.

“Shut up and run!” Brad yelled while still plowing through. Both Brad and Dominic let go of the holders and started running as fast as they could while Callum started to catch up. Another ten minutes later they stopped and were short of breath. They continued walking slowly and saw a couple more zombies scattered in the woods throughout their walk home. They were too tired to run again, so they tried to not attract their attention.

They approached Dominic’s house and they walked in. Dominic slammed the door and shouted. “Justin! Come here, the freakiest thing just happened!” There was a pause. “Justin?” Dominic found his older brother sitting on the bed in his room with a look of pure terror on his face. Justin was 21, he was much skinnier than Dominic, but was always sticking up for him.

“Mom and Dad never even showed up from work.” At this time, it was nearing midnight and was unusual for Dominic’s parents to be out this late. “Their phones are dead. And there’s weird things walking around outside.”

“I know, we fought one of those things. Guess what, they’re zombies. Literal zombies. Like the ‘AAAHHHHH BRAAAAIIIIIINNNNSSSS!!!’ kinda zombie.”

"I don't think they're after just our brains Dom." Brad whispered staring at her blood soaked clothes and hands. She had never been this scared in all her life.

"Hey, lets go to my place." Callum thought out loud. "Com’on you guys have seen all the stuff I've got there. There has to be loads of stuff we could use to fight our way through the zombies” "Hey, the government is probably setting up evac stations. Why don't I check the TV?"

Justin turned on the TV and flipped through the channels until he came across the news. A flashing list showed us that the closest evac station set up was at the high school in near-by Grafton. They all looked at each other when the front door opened and a figure appeared in the door way.

Everyone screamed, expecting to be dead from a zombie attack. Instead, they found that Dominic’s other older brother, Ricky, was at the door. He rushed in and slammed the door. “There is some freaky stuff going on out there.” He said, scare to half to death.

“Yeah, we’ve noticed.” Dominic said in a sarcastic tone.

“We’re headed to the evac station after we gather some weapons from here.”Brad added in, not amused by Dominic’s sarcasm.

“Let’s get started then.” Callum said; eager to get his hands on some weapons.

The group searched the house and after about 30 minutes they had gathered all together, 5 sharp kitchen knives, a wooden Louisville Slugger with multiple signatures on it, a metal shovel, an axe used to chop wood, and a hatchet. Dominic quickly snatched up the hatchet and the bat. Ricky grabbed the shovel, and Justin, the ax, Brad and Callum divvied up the knives.

“I hear they had opened a Cabala’s around here, we should go there and get better weapons.” Ricky said. Cabala’s was a humongous hunting store with hundreds of guns, knives, and other weapons that would be perfect to kill a zombie with. “Let’s go there before the evac station.”

The group gathered into Ricky’s car and the family’s Dodge Stratus. Ricky and Callum were in Ricky’s car, and Justin, Dominic, and Brad were in the Stratus. They drove off, all eight tires leaving nothing but dust and a loud squeal. 5 minutes later, they saw someone, this someone was not a zombie, but about to be. He was fighting for his life and trying to fight off six zombies. Dominic, Brad, and Callum all said at the same time, “Joe!” Joe Eichenhofer was a good friend of all three. Joe had, surprisingly, a sword and a ninja throwing star. Six, gruesome, zombies were swarming Joe. He was surrounded, and seemingly doomed.

“Justin, pull over, now!” Dominic shouted.

“But-“

“Now!” Dominic yelled. Justin pulled over and Ricky followed. Everyone gathered their weapons and piled out of the car. Dominic swung his hatchet at one of zombies. The hatchet penetrated the flesh and blood splattered all over Dominic. The zombies turned around and seemed to stare straight at him, even though their eye sockets were just empty holes, nothing but rotting flesh.

“Dominic? Brad, Callum? What the heck are you guys going here?!” Joe said, excited but worried.

“Saving you. What else?” Brad said as she took one of her knives and ran at one of the zombies. She swung it at its throat and just barely cut it. The zombie staggered backwards and bumped into Joe. Joe swung his sword at the zombie’s head. The head flew into the air along with a rotting bone. The body slumped over, motionless.

Little Brad was fighting with all her might, sparring with a zombie. She had a fierce glint in her eye. Two of her knives were jutting out of the zombie's chest and neck. With a satisfied grunt she crossed the knife over its neck before kicking it over. The head was almost completely severed but it was enough to kill it. She pulled her knives out of the zombie and cleaned them on what was left of its shirt.

"Geez Brad."said Dominic, a little scared at the feriousity with which Brad killed the zombie.

Justin swung his ax at the zombie that his little brother had struck with his hatchet, who was now walking towards Dominic and Bradlee. The hatchet was still stuck in his back, and Justin delivered a blow with the ax so hard, that there was a gaping hole in its chest, knocking the hatchet out. The zombie did not fall, but recoiled and continued moving. Dominic picked up the hatchet and swung at its neck. Its head rolled off of its body, then fell on the ground. The body slumped over and fell.

Joe ran at another zombie and swung his sword at it. Joe was clearly experienced with a sword as he made a clean cut. No blood, no gore, just the head falling off and the zombie falling over.

At the same time, Callum ran at a zombie with one of his knives. He stabbed it in its stomach, then used a right jab to move the zombie back. Then, Ricky came up and swung the shovel to knock the head off. As the body lay there, Ricky stared at it, and smiled. The zombie he had killed had a knife sticking out of its shoe. Ricky, taking this into consideration, heaved the shovel up and swung it down, breaking the leg off. The flesh ripped and blood oozed out. Ricky picked up the leg and swung it at the last zombie. The blade penetrated its head and as Ricky pulled back the leg into the air, the zombie came up with it. Ricky then slammed it down and the zombie’s body lay there motionless as the head rolled out.

“Thanks.” Joe said as he fell down from lack of breath.

Ricky stuck out his hand. “Hey, what are friends for? C’mon, we’re going to get out of here.”

[spoiler=Chapter 2]

Joe grabbed his hand and stood up. “Where to?”

“Cabala’s, then the Evac station in Grafton.” Brad cut in.

Dominic walked over to Ricky and Justin. He stared at the zombie leg in Ricky’s hand. “Zombie leg. Nice touch.”

“Eh, guess so. You know anything to survive.” Ricky said, joking that it was no big deal.

Callum walked to the road, stopped for a minute, then came back. “We should get going, there are more coming, and I don’t think they’ll like what they see.”

“Got it, everyone hop in.” Justin said, hopping into the Stratus. Joe joined Callum and Ricky and the two cars drove off. A short time later, they pulled up to Cabala’s. When everyone was out of the cars and near the front entrance, Justin said, “Listen. We have to get in, get our stuff, and get out. There may be other zombies on the inside.”

They all walked in and Callum went straight to the chainsaws. He grabbed one, heaved, and held it. “Heavier than it looks…” He whispered to himself. He found a strap that would hold it to his back and put it on.

Joe and Ricky stood near the front entrance, and then eventually decided to wander around. Justin went to the shotguns, found the strongest one, and grabbed it. He then grabbed 10 boxes of ammo and a back pack. Dominic went to the pistols and studied them carefully. He then picked two .34s and put them into his back pockets. He then wandered around the store looking for anything useful and picked up some items along the way back. Brad decided to pick up a crowbar and a sword she found in a glass case in the back.

About 10 minutes later, there was a huge banging noise coming from the front of the store. Everyone rushed to the front of the store, only to see a whole chunk of the wall missing. Justin cocked the shotgun and held it steady. Dominic drew his two .34s and looked straight out. Joe had just started pulling out his sword when he saw it. His jaw dropped and he whispered, “Wha- what is that?!”

The creature was nine feet tall and wore a dirty and ripped soldier’s uniform. It looked like the other zombies, but it was far more muscular. With each step it took, the pavement cracked and rocks flew in the air. Its eyes were pure red, where the other zombies didn’t have any. Also, it had long, sharp, curved horns on its head.

“This isn’t an apocalypse, this is hell.” Justin said as he took one step back. The creature took one step forward and rocks flew in the air. Dominic fired two bullets at it, but it had seemingly no effect. Justin fired straight at its head, but once again, to no avail.

“Great, what now?” Joe said.

Dominic reached into his pockets and pulled out two fishhooks tied with at 30 feet of fish line on each. Dominic took out two bullets and tied a line, very near to the hook, still leaving about 11 feet of line, to each. He loaded them again and threw a .34 to Ricky and Justin. “Shoot at his head!” Ricky and Justin fired and when the bullets penetrated the flesh, and the hooks dug in, and didn’t loosen, they noticed that Dominic tied the end of the line to the guns. “Throw the guns to Brad and me!”

Ricky and Justin did so. “Now Brad, run around him!” Dominic and Brad ran while the creature tried to swat them away. The creature was getting caught up in the line.

“Nice plan, Dom.” Callum started up the chainsaw and ran at one of its legs. Joe quickly caught on and took out his sword. The creature was preoccupied with trying to swat away Dominic and Brad while they continue to entangle him. Callum and Joe ran at his legs and cut off the foot with the sword and chainsaw. The creature fell over and because of the line; he could not keep his balance. The creature lay there, struggling to get up. Ricky, Callum, and Joe grabbed one of the lines, while Justin, Dominic, and Brad grabbed the other. They all pulled hard enough that the creatures head flew off. The flesh made a terrible ripping sound as it let out a loud groan. The head tumbled toward them. As it rolled, the pavement cracked, and Ricky dodged to the side before it hit him. It continued to roll until it hit a car. There was a loud crunching noise and a cloud of dust. When the dust cleared, there was a hole in the car, with the head on the inside.

“That was scary, what in hell was that thing?” Ricky said, sitting against the wall of Cabala’s.

Joe followed suit and sat down. “You expect me to know? Those things just took my parents, I went outside, and got attacked by the gang of zombies. I’m as confused as the rest of you.”

“But, why was it so big…” Brad said

“And it had horns…” Callum added

“And red eyes…” Justin added.

“Don’t forget bullet proof. If there are more of those things, we have a problem.” Dominic concluded. Then, in the distance you could make out misshapen figures, wandering towards the crew. The faint groaning was barely audible, but audible none the less.

“Um, guys, I think we should get going.” Ricky said standing up and walking towards the car. “So, we’re going to the Grafton High School, right?”

“Yeah, that’s the nearest evac station. I don’t know where their taking us, but it’s away from here.” Brad said and walked to the Stratus. Everyone piled into the cars, and they drove off, the squealing of the tires making the groaning un-hearable.

“Hold on!” Justin yelled as he drove into the crowd of zombies blocking their path. Their spines cracked and snapped, and blood splattered over the windshield. Ribs were stuck on the car, along with other miscellaneous organs and bones as they drove to their escape route. As they drove smashing through the endless crowd of zombies, trying not to drive into a pole or tree, they noticed the Evac Station up ahead. The building did not look like a school anymore. Now, it looked like just a huge cheesy ghost costume. The building was covered in what looked like a giant white building.

“Oh…Crap.” Ricky said as he saw it. There was yet another crowd of zombies attacking people.

Justin started to pull over when Brad said, “No! We have to try and help them, we have weapons now.”

Justin’s phone started ringing and when he answered it Ricky said, “Callum and Joe say we should stay here and help. What about you?”

“Yeah, let’s stay.” When they pulled over the cars they all piled out. Callum noticed immediately two people in the crowd fighting zombies.

“Guys! It’s Jake and Matt!” Callum shouted and they all looked. Jake and Matt were the wimpiest kids on their school. They were the dictionary definition of ‘loser’. Keyword is “were”. They were immediately eaten by the zombies and that was that. Their death was unlike any other one that zombies caused. They didn’t go down in a blaze of glory, they just went down. “Oh…um…. Well, oh well…” Callum said and looked away.

Brad squinted her eyes and then opened them wide. “Over here! It’s Sarah and Bauer!”

Sarah Grant is Brad's best friend and a really tough chic. She's holding her way against the zombie's; decapitating them with a fire ax covered in clotted thick blood. Bauer is, well, Bauer's Bauer. He's holding a shotgun in his hand, blasting at the zombie's heads. Suddenly, his gun jammed and he threw it at the zombies. Brad took off running, going to help Sarah fight off the horde while the guys went to get Bauer out of the mass of zombies. Sarah and Bauer uttered sighs of relief as the mass of survivors began to fight the clomp of zombies attacking with great gusto. Brad tossed Bauer her crowbar so he wouldn't be totally defenseless. The boys were all hacking at the zombies while the girls were encircled fighting back to back. Sarah leapt forward without Brad realizing it and started raining down on a gaggle of zombies. Brad roared in pain as a zombie dragged its ragged claws down her back tearing her loose cotton t-shirt. She spun around and sent its head flying. She could feel a steady stream of blood flow down her back and pool onto the hard concrete already covered with the thick zombie blood.

“Brad!” Dominic swung his arms around behind him and pulled out the pistols. He closed his eyes and thought, ‘God, I hope this works.’ He shot the pistols at the zombies head and blew it off.

“Thanks, ow…” Brad said while she felt the blood on the back of her neck.

Ricky and Justin ran over. “Guys, we have a plan. We just need to get through them.” Justin said and pointed to a gas can behind the crowd of zombies.

“We get that, spread it around, and blow this place sky high.” Ricky said, arming his zombie leg.

“We’ll back you up.” Sarah and Bauer said together.

“Let’s do this.” Callum said, starting up his chainsaw.

Joe armed his sword, staying silent and charged into the group of zombies, hacking away at them. Brad soon followed after getting a grip on her sword. Callum then dashed in with his chainsaw. “Sarah, Bauer, take these.” Dominic threw each of them a pistol and grabbed his bat and hatchet. “I’m gonna beat these guys my way.” Dominic ran in and Ricky soon followed. Sarah, Bauer, and Justin stayed behind and shot at the zombies.

The zombies were a good distance away from the High School, and they soon surrounded the group.

“Brad, Callum, Joe, Ricky, back me up, I think I can make it. I just need a small opening.” They all nodded. They all knew Dominic was not the fastest of the group, but he was the hardest to stop. He was built like a tank and as persistent as they come. Brad, Callum, Joe, and Ricky hacked away at one small section of zombies as Dominic ran through. Zombies were dragging on his shirt and pants, but he didn’t stop. He reached the gas can and grabbed it. “Justin! Think fast! Get Down!” Dominic threw the gas can in the air, as far as he could, and everybody ducked. Justin shot the gas can and it blew up. The zombies flesh started burning and dissolving. They started slowing down and falling over. The air was filled with a luminous glow as the small flames twinkled down.

Sarah, Bauer, and Justin stopped shooting to look around. All the zombies were lying in pieces on the ground and the ragged group of survivors was all breathing harshly dripping in blood especially Brad. She was deathly pale from lack of blood. The now blood-soaked group of teenagers (and Ricky and Justin) made their way into the creepy shroud that was once the Grafton High School.

Suddenly Dominic, Brad, and Sarah saw someone they knew.

“Oh. My. God. Kierdan?!” Dominic ran up. “Knew you lived in Grafton, and I’m happy your alive, but what are you doing here?!” Kierdan was a friend of Dominic and Brad's. Sarah had met him once but Dom and Brad knew him from a haunted house they we're at with friends. Now they were living in a real life horror story. Ooooooooo. Brad tried to smile at Kierdan. Instead she fell to the ground and the vivid scratch marks on her back were an ugly color between red and purple. Brad's forehead was heavy with sweat and it mixed with blood and dirt to run in streaks down her face. Justin had been smart enough to grab some simple first aid kits and bandaged up her torn back. She mustered the energy to stand and gave a weak smile.

"Hey Kierdan do u know where the nearest evac station is?" Dom asked, leaving Sarah to tend to her wounded best friend.

"I heard the nearest one now is in Milwaukee. They are leaving it open for another week before the stop evacuating people. I also heard they are taking us to cruise boats on the ocean until the infection subsides." Kierdan rubbed the shotgun he cradled in his left arm. He had a large backpack on his back with the butts of several other guns sticking out. The sharp indentations dotting the backpack led Dom to believe that Kierdan had a lot of ammo stuffed into the bag.

"Well, we got to make our way to Milwaukee." Dom decided. Brad looked up from where she was resting on the ground, gulping down the water Sarah had handed to her.

"Just one problem." she told the guys. "We blew up the cars." Brad pointed to the smoldering vehicles with the zombie carcasses plastered on them.

"Ah, crap." Callum muttered. "How are we supposed to walk to Milwaukee if Brad can hardly even stand?"

"Well... I might have a way." Kierdan smiled.

“And that would be?” Callum said walking forward. “My names Callum, the fat guys Bauer, and the guy with the sword is Joe.”

“And the two older guys are my brothers.” Dominic said.

“Nice to meet you guys.” Kierdan said and pointed to a couple of ATV’s. “We can grab those and head to the next nearest Evac Station; I hear it’s in Milwaukee.”

“Should be fun. Brad’s hurt though, and we’re going to double up anyways, so who you want to ride with Brad?” Justin said, cleaning up the first aid kit he was using.

“Guess I’ll go with Sarah.” Brad said and leaned against Sarah.

“Fine with me, I know how to drive.” Sarah said and helped Brad stand.

“And something about that really scares me…” Dominic said taking one step back.

“Ha ha.” Sarah laughed sarcastically.

“Let’s just hope in and go.” Bauer said.

They hopped into the ATV’s, the pairs being: Brad and Sarah, Callum and Joe, Dominic and Bauer, Ricky and Justin, and Kierdan were by himself.

As they started the ATV’s the engines sputtered and for a second their hopes of transportation were lost, but then, as if someone had heard their pleas for it to start, all of the engines started simultaneously. They drove off towards Milwaukee, with a long road ahead (literally). Almost immediately after departing the evac station, they saw someone else they knew, Quentin Luike. He was a short kid with short, dark, brown hair. A group of zombies were swarming over him. They saw his face for only a second before they covered him completely. Just a second later, they moved back and there was a gaping wound in Quentin’s neck. Blood gushed out as he screamed in pain. Everybody was too stunned to even move. Quentin’s skin started to grow very pale, and his eyes rolled over. He didn’t fall, but he just stood there, his screams now non-existent. Scabs started appearing across his body. Everyone realized what just happened; they just witnessed what happened to the rest of their family and friends. Brad and Sarah gasped, and Callum just whispered “No…” Everybody else was too disturbed and sad about what just happened to say anything. Sarah was the first one to snap out of it and restarted her ATV. She drove off Brad whimpering behind her... Brad was sorta friends with Quentin and it’s hard to see someone you know turn into a zombie. Callum and Joe drove off after them with Dominic and Bauer right behind them. Ricky and Justin brought up the rear, keeping an eye on the zombies. Kierdan was way off to the side, keeping to himself. He feels a little out of it so Brad has Sarah pull over to him.

"Hey, Kierdan?" Brad asked. "What happened?"

"Apparently the government created a new strain of some disease and was trying to create a cure for it when one of their workers sold it on the black market. Like some kind of domination weapon. But, when the disease was released it quickly became air-born and spread across the world in a matter of hours."

"That's not what i meant." Brad growled. "Where are Nick and Mitch?" Brad refers to Kierdan's friends from the haunted house.

"Mitch got hit with the strain and killed Nick." Kierdan looked straight ahead yet Brad was still able to see the single tear roll down his cheek. "I shot Mitch."

Brad decided to shut up and stop asking questions for the first time in her life. Instead she gripped Sarah's waist tighter and laid her head down. In fact the group of survivors sat in silence for about twenty minutes. That's when something popped into Callum's head.

"Where exactly in Milwaukee is the evac station?" Milwaukee is a big city.

"I think its Miller Park." Sarah said.

They group were approaching the outskirts of Milwaukee when the dozens of cars on the road stopped them. Silently they got off the atvs and decided to walk the rest of the way. Sarah had her arm around Brad for support while the other was clutching her hatchet in a death grip. Bauer had given Brad her crowbar back so she had that out and the sword on her back. All the others had their weapons out and Kierdan had given had given Bauer a shotgun to replace the one that had jammed. They walked down the deserted streets at a snail's pace because of Brad.

When they approached the large, lighted stadium, they heard more groans.

“They’re coming…” Ricky said.

[spoiler=Chapter 3]

“Then let’s hurry up and get in already.”Justin said and walked into the stadium.

The stadium was bright and for a second, no one could say anything. When they were able to see they saw a 6 foot tall zombie, armed to the teeth with knives. But, this one was like the last; he had horns and red eyes.

“Another one of these things?” Callum said and started his chain saw.

“Ha ha! I’ve got you now, pathetic fools!” The creature said.

“Whoa, whoa. Did you just… Talk?!” Joe said, speaking for the first time in a while.

“So, you’ve noticed I’m not like the others? I am what my species calls a ‘Necron’. I am more advanced, smarter, and stronger.”

“Crap, this doesn’t look good.” Kierdan said as he noticed bodies laying on the ground.

“Oh, my god.” Bauer said

“Dominic, take these.” Kierdan threw Dominic 2 .34’s

“Thanks. Sarah, Take care of Brad, she is in no condition to fight this thing right now. Keep her safe.” Dominic said and pulled out his baseball bat. “I’m going to have some fun with this guy.”

Everybody stopped and stared at him for a second. “Dominic…You sound almost heroic….” Sarah said as she leads Brad away.

“Well…hey… I guess I do.” Dominic said as he stared at the creature.

“Well, then, if your done!” The creature threw 1 of his knives at Dominic. He was stronger alright. The knife moved faster than anything he’s ever seen. Dominic, on instinct, swung the bat as hard as he could and hit the knife dead on. The knife flew at the creature with even greater speed, but he dodged it with ease.

With increasing intensity the Necron through his knives at Dominic and each time Dom hit them back. Some hit their targets but many whisked past it. Suddenly, the Necron turned and threw a knife at Brad, the weakest person there at the moment. (She could be strongest if she wasn't half dead from lack of blood) Brad had her crowbar out and just managed to deflect the knife. Dominic's eyes got a very hard sheen to them and he swung harder than ever when the Necron chucked another knife at him. This knife imbedded itself deep into its neck and it howled in pain. Joe tossed Dom his sword. Everyone was lined up to the side near where Sarah and placed Brad. All had their weapons out and where ready to jump in if Dom failed. Swinging wildly Dom got a shot in at the Necron's neck. It half severed the creature's head and he grabbed Dominic in its grimy paws.

"Give up and your death will be swift. Fight and i'll make you watch as i slowly tear apart your friends starting with the little one." The Necron refereed to Brad and Dominic heard Sarah let out a low growl. When they were all about to jump in to save Dominic he raised his hand and brought down his neck across it's stubby neck. The crusted knife in his hand took off the Necron's head and it slumped to the ground, dead.

Brad and Sarah let out unison screams as the creature's body landed on Dominic crushing him underneath it. The boys and Sarah ran to the body and lifted it off of Dom and saw him lying their seemingly unharmed. Bauer yelled.

"How did you survive that?"

“Wish I could tell ya. I just swung as hard as I could.” Dominic said, walked over to Brad, and smiled. “Not hurt are ya? If you are, then that was pretty much for nothing’.”

“Yeah, I’m fine, thank you.” Brad said and smiled.

Joe walked over and picked up his sword and Dominic’s bat, which now had several puncture marks and was cracking down the middle. He handed the bat to Dominic and said. “Well, now we have even more of a problem on our hands.”

Justin nodded. “This is getting too weird. It’s like some horror movie gone wrong.”

“Listen, Brad still needs medical attention. We need to find some help, and get outta here.” Dominic ripped off one of his sleeves and tied it around his arm, where there were bleeding scratch marks from the Necron they just fought.

Kierdan, Joe, Ricky, and Callum were all checking out the scattered remains of the evac station. Ricky was the one who found the list of evac stations. Many were crossed off but the most prominent one was New Orleans, Louisiana.

"Hey guys!! Does anyone know how we can make it to New Orleans in a hurry?" Ricky asked the survivors.

Sarah smiled deviously before responding. "There's a harbor here you know. Take Lake Michigan all the way down to the Wisconsin then takes the Mississippi until New Orleans!"

"Rock on!! We'll be safe on the boat." Brad giggled.

“Great. Mardi Gras, here we come!” Bauer said and laughed.

“Now to get down to the harbor…” Kierdan said, thinking.

“Well, it’s almost a straight shot from here. About a mile.” Ricky said

“Then let’s get going already!” Sarah said.

The group walked out and was greeted by an empty street.

“Seems like they were afraid of it.” Callum said, hauling his chainsaw.

“I can see the boat.” Brad said, squinting her eyes, and noticing bright lights in the distance.

“Good, that means it’s there.” Justin said, cocking his shotgun.

As they trekked on, they found that they could hear screams in the distance, along with gunfire.

“Found ‘em.” Joe said.

“Get ready. This could be a doozy.” Ricky said.

Brad walked alongside Dominic, now being able to stand more on her own. “Dominic… what you did back there, with that thing…thanks. You really came through.”

Dominic just looked and smiled. “Hey, you gotta do what you gotta do. I just got lucky, I thought I was dead.”

Brad smiled wickedly then ran to catch up with Sarah who was in an argument with Kierdan and Joe on the best way to kill a zombie. The group seemed relaxed to a sort but Dom knew that they'd be ready to fight zombies at a moment’s notice, in fact Joe hasn't sheathed his sword since the ATVs. The group was halfway to the harbor when an all black person jumped out in front of them. Somebody screamed, high-pitched, and the boys looked to Brad and Sarah. In sync the shook their heads and pointed to Bauer. He's visibly horrified. Everyone turned their attention to the person to notice Joe had his sword to the neck of a boy their age they had never seen before. He had black hair and eyes and carried a very beaten up cricket paddle.

"Seriously kid the best way to get yourself killed is to jump in front of a wound-up group of hormone hyped teenagers armed to the teeth with weapons. Plus we outnumber you, big-time.” Joe said and eased up on the sword, when, before he could do anything, the kid had a knife at Joe’s gut. He didn’t pierce him, he just held it there and smiled.

“You’re not the only one with a blade.” The kid said and put the knife away.

“Who are you?” Callum said and approached him.

“Dylan’s my name, zombie slayings my game.” Dylan said and held out his hand.

“That line is really old…Don’t use it.” Callum shook his hand.

After they introduced themselves, they found out that Dylan was in the same situation that they were. His parents were killed, and he was alone. He had Black Belts in several martial arts, and was quick with a blade. The second one Joe found out on his own.

“Listen, we’re going to New Orleans, and you can tag along if you want.” Justin said and pointed to the boat.

“Well, I got nowhere else to go, so why not.” Dylan said. The group loaded onto the boat and it departed almost immediately after they boarded. The boat was indeed just a ferry filled with people. No cars, just a mass amount of people, crammed into a small space. How this was supposed to take them to New Orleans, no one knew. For once, they decided to have some rest. By now, it was almost sunrise, and everybody was exhausted. Everyone sat down on the ground, and leaned against the edge railing. The soft brushing of the waves against the ferry quickly calmed them.

Days past, and time seemed endless. There were a couple of soldiers in uniform that would hand out food to everyone a couple times a day. As they awoke one of the mornings to the soft shining rays of the sun, they noticed that they were almost at their destination. Ricky yawned, stood up, and stretched. He picked up his zombie leg that he was cradling the entire time he was sleeping. He has also officially named it ‘Bessie’. He had no reason, he just felt like it.
