It's flavor text is a lie, there are stronger spellcasters in terms of attack and defense.

Silent Magician Lv8 beats it in Attack

Dark Sage beats it in Defense

Anyways, this is an example of retconned flavor text. Burstinatrix ended up in a similar situation.

You've brought up attack and defense seperately, but what about both combined? Oh, and Dark Magician IS both Dark Sage, he becomes Sage after getting really, really old. He's Dark Paladin too, which he became owing to some homoerotic witchcraft with Buster Blader, but Dark Sage beats it out so w/e.

 

Dark Sage has 6000 total points, which if I remember correctly is the strongest of Spellcasters alongside Sorcerer of Dark Magic, and Sorcerer would lose in a sort of tiebreaker because Sage can just net himself an attack-boosting Spell Card with its effect and become the strongest wizard in terms of attack and defense. That and because sorcerers aren't holy enough to be wizards.
