Another name change? NOOOOOOOOOO(I really shouldn't even be surprised at this point anymore)OOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!! Sin was a great name!

If they had to change anything at all to avoid religious groups complaining' date=' it was Sin and you know it...

[/quote']

You know what, how many religious groups have so little to do that they bother calling out the makers of FICTIONAL ANIME AND THEIR ASSOCIATED CARD GAMES! None of them. The excuse is a crock; and frankly, I don't care what the religious organizations think, STOP RUINING OUR FUN!

What exactly did you think I was being childish about? There's a different between expressing opinions and being childish.

They just replaced the name with a synonym that probably 90%+ of humanity has no clue what it means (no offense humanity)' date=' why don't they do the old-fashioned censorship and just go crazy with the changes, like Sunshine Lolipop Blue Eyes White Dragon.

[/quote']

Because that would have been too UDE. Konami hates them, remember? That's why they framed them for counterfeiting made up accusations of counterfeiting.

The last sentence slowly degenerated into what sounded like a 4-year-old complaining.

T_T 2 things I despise

1. ideot soccer moms who think cards are "inapropriate" and need to change Sin to Malefic or some other bullcrap.

2. 4kidz

they pretty much just made this archtype INCREDIBLY lame. the least they could have done is made it Corrupted or Cursed or something. *groans* I can hear Kazuki Takashi crying, all the way from a whole different continent.

I know. It's F**KING BULLSH*T.

As for 4Kids, they fell apart completely with this series. The amount of censorship they do creates more problems for themselves; as well as their failure to pay attention. Remember the 3rd Dubbed Season of GX? They turned Yubel into a transsexual and turned the Main Character gay.

Malefics make me think of a male fanfic writer.

YUGIOH 5WS!

The oh-so epic fanfic about how duelists write about how 'hansome' Panik is' date=' in addition to dueling eachother for the top writer spot.

[/quote']

That's the stupidest idea I've heard in my life, and you're a moron for even thinking of it.

Ironically, Yu-Gi-Oh! 5W's does not actually fall under the category in question.

Also' date=' did you notice how now they pretty much seem to be censoring cards just because they can?

Bad End - Queen Dragon? More like...um...You're Bad...Queen Dragon of Tragic Endings...?

Did you want Conspiracy of the Tuning Mentor? Well, you'll have to get the low-format version: Tuner's Scheme.

[/quote']

Those seem reasonable to me. Tuner's Scheme is much more concise and has the same effect, and Bad End Queen Dragon just couldn't be translated directly because "Bad End" is a a meaningful phrase in Japan but of no particular significance elsewhere.

But it's not as strong as it seems.

This card cannot be Normal Summoned or Set. This card cannot be Special Summoned except by removing from play 1 "Blue-Eyes White Dragon" from your Deck. There can only be 1 face-up "Malefic" monster on the field. Other monsters you control cannot attack. If there is no face-up Field Spell Card on the field, destroy this card.

All are extra baddies, and this needs its own deck. On the other hand, it is good in its own deck.

I didn't know that, actually. Independent of any meaning known only to members of the inner circle of sages (jk), "Bad End" tends one to think of an End/ing that is the opposite of optimal.

Also, you're right, those weren't the best examples, but they were the first off the top of my head. What about some of these?

Black Feathers to Blackwings, Deformers to Morphtronics (this one I kind of get, actually), Machiners to Machina, and (of course), Demonic Roaring Gods to Fiend Roar Deities to Fabled. Also, I just remembered a card I noticed while looking through cards in the recent packs I've completely missed: Enlightenment. That was Prophecy of a Future King once.

The Enlightenment card, if it had kept its original name, would have lead to the destruction of the Konami company at the hands of many religious societies.

Deus ex Machina didn't come from the Matrix, it's a phrase used when something out-of-the-blue happens to allow a protagonist to overcome a problem, such as the character suddenly develops a power or technique that allows him to win a fight or a new character is introduced that happens to solve the problem at hand.

For a good example of Deus Ex Machina' date=' read any Harry Potter book that isn't Prisoner of Azkaban and see what stops him from being killed in the climax of the book. The worst was Chamber of Secrets, in which DEM need to save him [i']three times[/i].

Or just watch/read Naruto during almost any fight scene... seriously.

Having neither watched nor read Naruto, I'm guessing they tend to involve characters pulling hitherto-unmentioned superpowers out of nowhere - which is DEMtastic, though not quite as DEMtastic as having a bird appear out of nowhere and drop a top hat with a sword in it.
