Tronta
thoughts:proxies in casual play are legit in all circumstances if both people can agree upon it. however, my general thought is that proxies are legit so long as one of these circumstances are met:1) the proxies are for testing purposes only. to avoid buying expensive cards then weeding them out of the deck because they dont fit anymore. that's really dick.2) you have the intent to get the card within a reasonable amount of time. like, if i say i'm gonna go buy some simorghs, i should be able to proxy them in the mean time. but if i wanna proxy jd in my ls deck but arent going to buy it, then i'm a baka.3) they arent too long lived. if the proxy is there for like, 3 funking months, that's a problem. if its only for a month or a few weeks, whatever, assuming it fits one of the other clauses. but if you have this mother fuckin proxy for 3 god damn years then you can just shut the funk up and walk right out the door son. GraveHorizon
I feel that proxies should be used/allowed with discretion. A girl I played with had a Spellcaster deck with 3 Dark Magicians, and she wanted to include her Dark Paladin but didn't have a Buster Blader. I told her it would be okay if she used one of her Dark Magicians as a proxy (they were 3 different versions) until she found the real card. I was fine with that, but not with my other friend wanting to proxy something like F.G.D. Using a proxy to fill in for a fairly common card needed to complete a set, fine. Doing it to produce a trump card out of nowhere, I don't think so. Not a clearly defined line at all between acceptable and not, but that situation doesn't occur often for me. I guess if both people are fine with it, why not? But I feel a duel with a proxy and a duel with the actual card should have some distinction between them, depending on the awesomeness of the card. The thing usually stopping most people from using dream decks in real life is not having needed cards, and if everyone just substituted every card they didn't have, that would kind of suck. Hmmm... I would just say proxy for fun, and use real cards for real duels.
Sephiroth_The_Legend
i proxy all the time. it lets me test decks much easier than trying to find the cards and buying them.

Toffee.
The only disadvantage you have with Proxy card, is they arent shiny. SHINY CARDS FTW! When I was younger' date=' I used to play with proxies of custom cards against proxies of custom cards. It was lolzy for a while, until everything turned broken (like the lol you lose cards). It was effectively a way of being more creative and cunning than your opponent.[/quote']Best. Format. Evar. It was like Duelist Kingdom, only alot more chaotic. And why didnt any of us print cards that could be freely summoned? O,oWe always had boss monsters that needed like 3+ tributes XD

Guest PikaPerson01
All the power to him. Screw Konami and their money hoarding ways! VIVA LA DUELISTS! VIVA LA DUELISTS! This. If he's a good deck builder' date=' and a good duelist, why so intimidated when he plays a piece of paper that has a few words written on it? He proxies Synchros he doesn't have. Nextly, he proxies cards that aren't even in English TCG format yet, (i.e. Infernity Beetle, Fuel Cell Batteryman, Blackfeather Dragon etc.) For Synchros, the only way I'd agree is if they were difficult to get Synchros (and by difficult to get, I mean SJC cards) I discussed with the others and we came to the argreemant that the next time he duels one of us' date=' and uses a proxy without owning at least one real copy, we kick him out, with very harsh language, and whenever he plays a proxy of a card thats not in English format, we kick him out,[/quote'] ... Sounds pretty damn immature, and it seems like you discussed it with the wrong people. What you should have done was spoken with the Proxy Friend and told him this. Or, if anything try to make new rules to your little club? "No OCG-only proxies, especially since translations may be bad and rulings may change" "Must be a proxy of a card you already own or at least a card that would be easy enough for you to get" (Like, if he's proxying Fissure or RoTA or Book of Moon or something.) tl;dr: Learn2communicate with friends
Tronta
i dont trust computerized random to be random. an rng is based on an algorithm, which i simply dont like. furthermore, playing irl is more fun. for one you dont have to click 80 things, for two you can see your opponent, and for three, you can watch him shuffle his graveyard. the most fun thing about playing my flip trolls is watching them shuffle their graveyard. and they all do it, too. not paying attention, confusing it with the deck because of its sheer size, and they just start shuffling it after some play. one kid even put it face down and proceeded to draw from it. its hilarious. online just feels so blah.
