PS3 error 8001050F

History has been made today, as the Playstation 3 has become the first every system to commit time travel, specifically, it has decided to go to December 31st, 1999. (Talking about the internal clock, worldwide they have changed their date/time to 12/31/1999.)

Anyway, basically, worldwide PS3's are "bricking" so to speak, with a error 8001050F message. They can't connect to PSN, play any games that need to sync trophies, play any downloaded PSN games, and PSN downloaded themes are becoming corrupt.

It seems the only models that arn't getting this are the 120/250 Slim models.

Sony has responded with a very vaguely. (Yipee for details)

There are alot of ideas as to why this is happening.

Some people say it's a "hacker".

But I don't think there's any way it can be that since people who have never connected their PS3 to online are also getting this.

The most probable theory I've seen is that it's an error with its interal clock...but whatever, ignore, discuss, whatever. :|

Mine is alive and well - and I logged on today.

They say slim models haven't been affected' date=' but mine isn't a slim model; it's roughly a year and a half old, so I'm not sure which consoles have been affected.

[/quote']

Mine is a new one and it work. It's been confirmed that Slim models don't work but some fat PS3's are unaffected.

Thank god.

Figured as much. Still, at least my PS3 is backward compatible so I can still play PS2 games.

Sony posted this approximately five hours ago...
------------------------------------------------------------
As you may be aware, some customers have been unable to connect to the PlayStation Network today. This problem affects the models other than the new slim PS3.

We believe we have identified that this problem is being caused by a bug in the clock functionality incorporated in the system.

Errors include:

•The date of the PS3 system may be re-set to Jan 1, 2000.
•When the user tries to sign in to the PlayStation Network, the following
message appears on the screen; “An error has occurred. You have been
signed out of PlayStation Network (8001050F)”.
•When the user tries to launch a game, the following error message appears
on the screen and the trophy data may disappear; “Failed to install
trophies. Please exit your game.”
•When the user tries to set the time and date of the system via the
Internet, the following message appears on the screen; “The current date
and time could not be obtained. (8001050F)”
•Users are not able to play back certain rental video downloaded from the
PlayStation Store before the expiration date.
We hope to resolve this problem within the next 24 hours. In the meantime, if you have a model other than the new slim PS3, we advise that you do not use your PS3 system, as doing so may result in errors in some functionality, such as recording obtained trophies, and not being able to restore certain data.

As mentioned above, please be advised that the new slim PS3 is not affected with this error. We are doing our best to resolve the issue and do apologize for any inconvenience caused.

For the latest status on this situation please continue to check either the PlayStation.Blog or PlayStation.com.

Basically they've finally realized what hundreds of people have already figured out, that it's a internal clock programming error to do with the leap year since the PS3's release.

Someone turned on their PS3 this morning and reported that his PS3 has died. (Dunno if he's lying or not but whatever.)

My playstation just died. I turned it on this morning seeing it was back up then all the sudden it restarted and the red flashing came on now it wont turn on.

For all of you people who like fanboy flamewars, someone just came up with the perfect name to call this 8001050F error..

As much I would like to see some feedback (to comments) from Sony, I am happily assuming that they have put all of their attention towards a fix instead of reading our complaints. Although I would like to mention that relative to the PS3’s launch date, this would be their leap year….
“Forget Y2K this is the ApocalyPS3″

Funny ass rage about the 8001050F error.

I thought it was my PSN account. Tried it at a buddie's house, and it worked fine. I'm about to kill someone. It lest me update my games, but i can't even play Dante's Inferno because it can't trophy sync. This is pissing me off massively. I noticed the date problem when i went to play borderlands and apparently the last time i played borderlands with Lilith was 1999 :/

Any trophies you havn't synced with the server, you're going to lose. The big problem is that it might not reset the award. In other words you don't have the trophies but it thinks you do.

Edit:Trying to play games that need trophy sync (and then it gives you the message you got) can quite possbily delete all your trophies for that game, so I'd be careful with that, and check your Dantes Inferno trophies right now.

EditEdit: Another reported PS3 death, but according to him it was before the error started coming up so IDK.

All DA trophies are gone. IDK whether it was before or after the failed sync. I have a friend who has the same PS3 as mine and his is working fine now. I don't think he lost his MW2 trophies, which is the game that 'effed up the sync for him. As long as i don't lose saved data for DA i'm fine. Also, i think they still show up on my PSN usercard online, i'm not so sure. I have an odd feeling that sony is killing the old ones from the inside for some odd reason, i don't think that sony can, or will help us, since any PS3 that is affected has since outlived their warranties. I have a feeling that this is gonna result in a legal recursion, regardless of whether it's an inside job, or not. I dunno how sony plans to fix this, either, since we can't access PSN, we can't update it away, and since, in my experiences so far, we can't download an update via the sony website since the internet is massively ghey.

My PS3 is working fine now, seems Sony's got luck on their side, and their "sit it out and wait 24 hours" idea saved their asses.

I don't think anyone is going to be able to get their trophies back...but I'm able to get back online now. Luckily I never tried to play any of my games that required a trophy sync.

I suggest everyone try logging on now, it's working for me.

*starts passing out "I survived 8001050F" T-shirts*

Edit: Reguardless, letting something silly like this get past them...what a tarnish on their record. Especially since their console was just starting to lift off.
