Why Do Pop Songs Mostly Always Succeed?

No it doesn't always succeed, actually it gets more hate than the rest. Even if it scores high in the charts. Ask 100 people and you'll get a hate answer.

And the thing about teenage girls is not always true, if you haven't looked at it Pop is changing. Sure little children will buy Disney & High School Musical stuff but Pop doesn't stay in the same corner. No genre does. Katy Perry going Pin-Up style, September doing quality Electro-Pop, Lady Gaga...trying to be an "eccentric artist" (mmhmmh :/), you know it's not all just Britney Spears who hasn't released ANYTHING for ages minus horrible mother skills.

Personally I think in a few years Pop will turn into a New-Age direction, the violins and Neo-Classical stuff are coming back.

Annd the reason why it often succeeds, IDK I guess it's because it's about being catchy and attainable for everyone, that's the purpose of it.

Because most of their promotion are symbols relating to sex.

Most pop songs include some semi-naked, lustrous, woman who generally implies of partying, alcohol and sex.

A lot of the male musicians imply sex, drugs, crime and gang life.

This is what kids today find exciting.

Also the music in terms of beat is usually dance-able and not too heavy, vocally sung and catchy, rappers are usually grungy electronic sounds with a rough voice.

Other male/ female songs like ballads become popular through emotion and themes of love, very popular among young disillusioned people who think they know what love is.

Generally pop music wins through catchiness, hardcore lyrics, harmony and listenability.

Pop music is a way to express sexual frustration and over flowing hormones, with being catchy and well sung, rap is a way releasing anger while feeling part of a big gang/ society.

Most real music, WAIT, I mean rock/ metal music, is faster, more violent instead of sexually explicit and is a release of anger among listeners, they can find a way to release emotion that is suppressed and the mentally of the listener is arranged so the riffs of guitars are stimulating.

This is my evaluation, however confusing and wrong it might be xD

But Metal>Pop.

Pop is kinda talented, R&B and rap suck. Ballads are okay.

Lady GaGa or Metal?

Jedward or Rock?

50 cent or Speed/ Death Metal?

^Well I agree with some of the above but not all.

My big problem with the PROMINENT Pop music today is that it overdoes the sex sometimes and pushes it down your throat. So Pop singers like September who don't do that are ignored.

But I still don't think it's a general rule, like I said before I think music genres are changing, there are new trends in Pop too. Porn seems to be switching to Pin-up style like Katy Perry and that stuff. And old influences, especially Victorian are used a lot lately, with violins, castle videos and all. See Avril Lavigne's latest vid and even Lady Gaga dresses that way. So I think it's heading towards Neo-Classical/Retro but that's just my prediction.:)

But I'm still not sure if it gets any better with that so we'll see...

And even then, I kinda hate it when people generalize everything. I have my problems with much of Pop music too but...:|

Some examples of well-done, non-retarded Pop:

A well-composed ballad about emotions and themes of love, vocally sung too but the composition is probably too hard for many.:3

Now HERE'S a METAL song that is about sex and overflowing hormones, from one of the best-known Black Metal bands too. For "semi-naked, lustrous, woman who generally implies of partying, alcohol and sex".

Even though Satyricon is a really good band and even though they're loud and violent, but the music and the lyrics here are mediocre and hardly go past the hormones overflow of a horny 15-year-old.xD

You're also using pointless, kinda stereotypical examples that are too horrible to represent genres anyway.xD

Even though Lady Gaga pulls down the "I'm an eccentric artist" card I'd much rather take September as the A and O of today's Pop.:|

In fact, pop music has to be "succesfull", because pop is a shortcut of popular. But popular songs aren't always good. I mean they have beuatiful faces, handsome men and pretty women. My main problem with pop, though, is that they don't have a meaning[Pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa poker face...:-(] But, some people can listen these song easier:-() But how can you listen on Lady Gaga, when bands such as Metallica, U2, Aerosmith etc. have tours?? I mean, I hear my friends telling me "I'm going on 50Cent's concert.", when Metallica come here(in Greece)! And about the ballads. Ballads aren't, completely, pop. The best ballads are made from metal or rock bands.

Example: Don't fear the ripper-Blue Oyster Cult

Don't wanna miss a thing-Aerosmith

Nothing else matters-Metallica

And about my favourite band(read the sentence below the name):A7X-Seize the day

But there are, also, some good pop songs and some bad metal songs! We can't say that something is completely right, just because we like it...
