The original.

Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters - I'd say 'realistic', even though it's not. It's moreso than some of the newer storyline's though. I dunno, it could be nostalgia, but I always see this as by far the best. Battle City arc <3

Yu-Gi-Oh! GX - It got kinda stupid. It's great, but it didn't meet the standards of the original imo. It was just too stupid and Judai annoys me so much.

Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's - I got bored by episode 13. Not sure why. I don't like the new rules, and I hate the idea of D-Wheels.

Well for me its a toss up between the Original and 5Ds.

The Original had moments that made me lol, it probably would have been better if it stuck to the manga even more I would have enjoyed it more. I think I prefered the Kaiba brother's devious side.

DM was alright loved the last season the most, it just made me =O alot of times.

GX had its moments, S4 was better than all of it. Shame they didn't bring Fujiwara in earlier, I loved his backstory. Along with the Haou plot.

5Ds I prefered it when it was doing the Dark Signer's plot, although the Crashtown/Kiryu plot was awesome and JACK does great fillers.

Duel Monsters:Well for me it was the best since they tryed to use new evil forces in every season and still manage to keep to the plot. And Mostly for being able to revive monster spirits

GX:Was gay.Atleast in the dubbed series, but they literaly solved everything with a card game.I know it's a friggin school for dueling, but come on.They just jumped in and scream lets duel without any reason or explanation why is all this happening.

5D's:Have to give credit for grafics and adding more violance and emotion expresion was realy good, but the fact of driving a motorcycle while holding cards and thinking a strategy is just inposible.

During the Dark Signer arc to be honest I didn't hear much "Autopilot on" which did lead to some fun driving. Even without dueling we had some fun riding moments like JACK's roof top jumping.

I love the D-Boards that the twins were using. Brush how can you get bored with the Twins in it, they're adorable and when they have their heart to heart moments they make me cry with the cuteness.

5Ds ignores the laws of physics and biology. (I say that because the twins are identical in all but gender, a genetic impossibility)

Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters: Probably my favorite. The plots were original, and from time to time a good character would actually lose. Battle city arc <3

Yu-Gi-Oh! GX: It was alright but personally I didn't enjoy it as much as the other seasons. I did enjoy the season the 3rd season but then it began to stretch on too long. I absolutely hated the 4th season. All in all the anime was not very great.

Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's: From the start I thought this was going to be horrible. As the plot progressed I began to enjoy it more and more. The Dark Signer plot was everything I could have asked for and more. It introduced my favorite anime character Kiryu. So far the current season has not been great but has been decent.

All in all I think it's like this.

Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters

Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's

Yu-Gi-Oh 5D's is the only YGO series that actually has a real-life concept. It conceptually reflects the problems of the modern world....

1. Unequal Society

While the city residents and Tops are wealthy and rich, the Satelite residents are extremely poor and live in dumpsters. This is Kazuki Takahashi's way of representing to the kids the horror of unequal society. It implants a good "Thought for equality" in the minds of kids, thus making this good as a kids' show. And no, Akiza isn't something that will make kids go into puberty. I watch Japanese and haven't got any bad things from the female characters.

2. Displaced People

This overlaps with 1. The Satelite residents are nearly homeless.

3. War

The war against the Crimson Dragons and Earthbound Immortals resulted in a high population of Neo Domino getting sucked into the shadowrealm death. Thus telling kids the fear of war.

4. Violence

Along with making the whole series awesome, violence appeared many times. It teaches kids the importance of life. In the case you didn't realize, I am Japanese and watch the undubbed virsion.

What seems at first bad is actually extremely good for kids. You now see.

DM: I have the misfortune of starting with the dub, not reading the manga, and missing a lot of the last season. However, this series was great.

GX: I actually enjoyed most of this. The fillers were kind of meh with lots of wasted potential, but I did like the plot. In terms of seasons, 3 > 4 > 2 > 1. I don't care if people consider Season 3 the worst of it, I really enjoyed it. I just wish it cleared up some loose ends like the LoD and the finale really should have been handled better. Not to mention the terrible mistake of leaving NEX incomplete. I do find the manga quite good though. Though it's mostly for the cards, I actually buy the manga.

5D's: It's kind of hit-and-miss with the season, especially since it's brought (in my opinion) the best and the worst Yu-Gi-Oh! characters, Divine and Crow respectively. A lot of the nonsense and implausibility bugs me, but I still enjoy it.

Ultimately, I can't decide. Each series had different things that the other series lacked.

I think DM is my favorite series. Like Brushfire said earlier, it is the most realistic series, as far as it can be. I watched 5D's by downloading it in parts off of YouTube, but stopped when I found a place to download DM, and now I'm halfway through rewatching the series. I just finished the episode where Yugi and Kaiba start their Semi-Final duel in the Battle City arc, 2 episodes away from being at the ongoing current release. (Guess the subber and I'll give you a rep.) I'm going to try to finish DM then watch GX, maybe with a little 5D's interspersed throughout.

The twins are so cute! From what I've seen they get pretty lucky in their duels, so I guess they could be useful at some point. They should dress up as each other, or maybe Rua (or Lua, however it's spelled) could just dress up as Ruka. That would be even cuter.

About them looking alike as twins... Nothing's really genetically impossible about twins looking almost exactly the same. If a couple can have two pairs of "one-black-and-one-white" twins, what's so crazy about those two looking similar?

Rua already dressed as Ruka back in 15, when he posed as her to enter the Fortune Cup, of course Rex and the others tested to see if was her during the duel and figured the truth. Rua even wore lipstick lol, Yusei had to go with him to get any make up off he was wearing.. (Rua I mean)

Its the fact that they're of different genders, they're identical in appearance appart from that.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that. That wasn't enough for me, though. I demand more. And different-gendered siblings can look very much like each other. Maybe they only look identical because it's animation, therefore less detailed and not as realistic.

  • 3 weeks later...

lets see...

DM is definitively the best...the evil forces kept being realistic and interesting and the good guys were in for some random scenes too...

GX - just for the season one villains, but the rest of the cast should imo be sent to shadowrealm O:O

original series: *cough* screw the rules i have green hair *cough*

and bakura being addicted to dnd...reaally strange yet interesting

5D...whats the 5 for anyway? and...they...got motocycly...stuff o.O

i'm far too traditionalist in that way but card games + motocycles sounds shitty together...

Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters was the best, interesting mix between history and modern life. I also liked the idea of the "Virtual Worlds" more than the "Duel Dimensions" and the "Spirit World", it was more realistic.

Yu-Gi-Oh! GX is by far the worst, mainly because it went from school life to space and then to a different dimension forgetting the original concept (duel monsters came from Ancient Egypt) even though it was connected to YGO-DM. The duels weren’t very exciting, because Jaden (Judai) wins almost always in the same way.

Another reason I didn’t like GX because it raises too many questions without answers. Like:

Or, where did the Sacred Beasts come from?

Or, what happened during the 10 years between DM and GX?

Or, Where was Yugi and The “geek patrol” (as described by Kaiba :P ) when the world was about to be destroyed 4 times?

Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's is pretty good; the plot works perfectly with the characters.
