Mario Kart Wii Review

Mario Kart is one of the best racing game series around. What with the Wii's motion controls, it seemed only natural to be able to use the Wii Remote like a wheel. It comes as no suprise that Mario Kart Wii is a great game.

STORY: N/A

This game has no story.

GAMEPLAY: A

Mario Kart Wii has the same gameplay it's had since the original game rolled out on the SNES. The goal is, not suprisingly, to be the first one to finish the race. This game also has items that can be used to spell doom for your opponents, including series mainstays (Like the Banana Peel, Green Shell, and Lightning Bolt) and newcomers (Like the Mega Mushroom and POW Block). The multiplayer's not bad, either.

DIFFICULTY: A

The game's Grand Prix mode contains 3 difficulty modes: 50cc, 100cc, and 150cc. The higher cc you have, the faster the vehicles go, and the higher the AI is. Further adding to this is 2 vehicle types- On 50cc you can only use karts and on 100cc you may only ride Motorbikes. There's also a hidden Mirror Mode that's like 150cc, only with reversed tracks.

PRESENTATION: A

All the game's environments are detailed, from the lava in Bowser's castle to the eels lurking in Koopa Cape. All of the karts look fantastic, as do the bikes.

SOUND: A

The game's soundtrack consists of several tunes spanning the entire series, but mainly original tunes. The sound effects and voice work were well done. Not to mention that the menu screen gets more and more layers as you get furthur in.

FINAL OPINION: A

My first game to get straight A's (Unless story counts), Mario Kart Wii is one of the best racing games out there. Whether you ride karts or bikes, this game is suited for Mario fans and racing fans alike.

"Best racing game for the Wii" doesn't really say much. I loved the online, but I've never played a game as unbalanced as this. Every time you get first expect:

-a winged shell

-a pow block

-a red shell; and

- a banana peel you can't avoid

all at once. The game doesn't require skill at all anymore, just who can use the most items.

  • 3 weeks later...

But that's mostly because Mario Kart has 4 or 5 games, total. One for the Wii, DS, N64, SNES and Double Dash. Maybe 6, but not more than that.

I don't know crap about this Turismo, but it'll probably have more games out. And same with Need for Speed. Normally I'd account for sales as a good determining factor for quality, but in this case, you are comparing a franchise with 5 or 6 games to a franchise with a lot more. So you'll obviously see a huge difference in sales. =/

I'd downgrade it for the AI's constant Rubberbanding in 150cc.

I don't know why they made it 12 per race now. Not only are all 11 other computers annoyingly annoying, but that also means that more undodgable iteams surface.

Think of it this way:

When there was only 8 per race, and there are only 4 iteam boxes in a line. Assume that half of the racers get the iteams, the other have does not.

Using that logic, with 12 racers 4 would get them with the front of the pack, 4 would miss them and the last four also get iteams.

It's pretty easy to guess that if your in 1st facing 7 or 8 iteams you're screwed.

Pow Boxes were a supid idea.

Might just be me ranting at the fact that I get hit by something every 4 seconds, but still.

That's a bit of an overexaggeration. I haven't extensively played MKWii' date=' but on the DS version, Bullet Bill gets you into maybe 4th place.[/b'] It never EVER propels me into 1st place.

Alright it is a bit of exaggeration, but it will always propel you to 1-3rd place.
