I'm sure this discussion has taken place before, but I'm not exactly the most active guy on the board.
What is the purpose of temporary bans? I mean, seriously, what's the concept? A person breaks some rules, gets banned for some time, comes back exactly the same, rinse, repeat. It's happened with a countless number of members, most recently (and most prominently) Willieh and ragnarok1945.
What does this accomplish? Certainly it isn't meant to punish a user - nothing really stops him from coming back and doing just what he did before, especially if for some reason other members actually support that behaviour.
If somebody does something worth of punishment (according to forum rules), especially if he does so repeatedly, isn't a temporary ban delaying the inevitable? Or does it serve some practical purpose I'm overlooking?
