Ehh, calling a Moderator and more experienced members regarding the Intro thread.

[align=center]Why am I doing all these things?

Eh, just want to be helpful and show Josh I can contribute.

So, I noticed that in the Introductions thread there is an awful lot of members saying "Hi, Welcome to YCM, don't Spam read the rules" then I go into another thread and the same member is saying the exact same thing but they get away with it because it is welcoming in a new member, however, it raises there post count for more or less spamming. This method was more or less developed by Pitski, so I suggest making it illegal to copy and paste post in the introductions forum or at least immobilize peoples post counts going up when posting there, so you are actually making a ligit post.

I support completely. However, the only thing we really can do is make a better moderator for the Introductions and just warn people. Disabling post count won't work:

2) Do not request post count to be disabled in the Introductions section.

YCMaker seems to like this sort of nonproductive posting. >_> Who knows why? I don't.

I have a better idea: abolish Introductions altogether. It contains nothing of value anyhow.

Probabally because it gives the site better publicity? Example, people feel welcomed to the site and more than likley a younger member would want to get his friend involved and then a pattern emerges, however, introductions isn't completly without meaning, like said above, people feel welcomed, they want to stay and post. Then again all people say is "Welcome to the site, read the rules don't spam" so I'm sort of with you.

And I'm glad you agree Brushfire. ;D

I disagree. Although you're right in saying that it provides no value to the forum, it also gives new members something to post and say "Hi, nice to meet you :)" and gain friends/whatever on the board. Then again, that's very unlikely to happen with the same generic posts being posted for +1 in the section.

I cannot honestly imagine friendships being formed on the basis of an interaction consisting entirely of one person saying "Hi, I exist" and another person saying "Hi, you exist". Any YCM friendships will form on boards with actual content.

Also, I do not believe that Introductions can be reasonably reformed to contain actual content, as there just isn't anything special to say to the daily horde of generic usernames that stride in, half of which will never post again anyhow.

I agree with the either of these two suggestions made by previous, abolishing it or at least getting a mod to control it. Maybe get a mod first, than if it don't work, than abolish it. They could just simply say hi in their first post if they wanted to, but some new members don't even post their and post somewhere else first, decide they hate it and leave. Not all of them do, but some of them. So, Both of these idea's I'll support, which is abolish it or Have two mods their cleaning it up.

This is true, however, most members cannot be bothered to read the rules, and a simple post like "don't spam" can lead to them questioning what "Spam" is and then learning what not to do.

Futhermore, when a new person posts with the members not knowing who they are it can lead to an eery silence for a while, at least, thats what I have experienced in general, so maybe it's not just best for the person to be welcomed but the members to know who this new person is?
