It would indeed surpass the text limit.

Which is why I keep waiting for posts so that I can add the old chapters.

Y.C.Manga - Episode 4: Advent of Silence

Nexev stifled a yawn as he bent irritably over his desk, scanning every bit of information the glowing screen of his computer supplied him with meticulously. As much as he would like to be comfortably sleeping in his cushy, luxurious bed, he had several jobs to do.

For one, he needed to maintain up-keep on the new castle - as long as The Organization wasn't moving just yet, he would probably be expected to get the castle as homey as possible in the meantime. Wouldn't want to disappoint, now.

He was also multi-tasking this with his analysis of the three artifacts Davok had been charged to steal. Their initial value was already quite apparent - The Cryomancer's Core personally provided Nexev with a severe augment to his combat abilities, due to the nature by which he preferred to fight. On top of that, it was a valuable staple to fortifying the castle.

The Midnight Shard, a pitch black stone that had been stolen from the Card Creation Tower, was a priceless source of incredible magic. It was by the power of this stone that the Administrative Cards of the Card-Maker Kingdom, cards of incomparable power, were created.

Then there was the Sanguiroja, the glowing, blood-red stone Davok had returned to the Tower with earlier this evening, after his fight with whomever had hindered him. Nexev was completely in the dark about this gem, and had been spending the last several hours pouring over information he had been researching. And yet still, nothing.

What the hell did it do? Why did Clair, Roxas, and Aeon want it? Not knowing things was often a subject of discomfort for the scientist, as knowing was his business. Knowledge in general was his business, really. As his eyes scanned over another line of text, his fingers absently fondled the small crest he wore on the cuff of his black sleeve - a small metal badge which had been shaped in the image of an open eye, with violet, wispy tendrils winding around the edges of the trinket. It was Aeon's Sigil, the item that identified Nexev as one who served directly under him.

Nexev bit his lap as he thought of his last task for the evening - he was supposed to also be keeping watch on all security, just in case the Administrators tried something tonight. His fingers left his badge alone, and instead began to drum against the desktop, his eyes glancing at the Gun which was only inches away from those fingers.

"What should I do?" he softly asked himself.

In the corner of the lab, Riku was quietly entertaining himself by tossing the Sanguiroja up into the air, catching it, and then repeating the process. He was beginning to feel tired, as he hadn't slept in several days, but he also felt duty-bound to keep watch alongside Nexev, as Aeon had warned of a possible attack tonight. He wouldn't be sleeping when that happened. How ever would he explain himself to Clair?

He was in such a state of sleep deprivation, however, that his senses seemed almost fine-tuned beyond their norm. He glanced over at Nexev, busily working on his computers, and smirked. "What do you mean, 'what should I do?'; Isn't it obvious?"

"Don't give me that." Nexev snapped back, resting his face in his hands briefly. "You know why we're here."

"I know why we're supposed to be here. But don't you think too much has happened for the situation to stay the same, Nexy?"

Nexev simply sighed. "That's precisely what I'm trying to figure out."

"What? Are you scared?" Riku asked, catching the Gem again before pocketing it and heading to Nexev's side. "Let me guess - you don't feel any attachment to the Maker anymore, as far as personal care is concerned. But you're worried that if we should happen to lose, you'll be punished for treason, right? And so you don't know if you should cut your ties with The Maker, or actually go through with your original mission."

Nexev stared up at him from his seated position, brow raised in mild surprise. "You deduced all that by yourself?" he asked, somewhat mockingly.

Riku shrugged it off. "I've known you for a long time. You know, worrying about something like this doesn't seem very like you."

"And you're not worried at all?" the scientist asked flatly, still mulling through his thoughts.

"Nope. My loyalty is to Clair, and always will be." Riku replied smugly, tapping the badge he wore on his breast - a red, teardrop-shaped emblem with crackling electricity painted into the design. "Where do your loyalties lie?" Riku asked curiously. "Because if they're with The Maker...well, I won't kill you, seeing as how we're old friends, and that battle would likely end in a draw, but I will tell you to leave, and will inform the Leaders."

Nexev sighed again. "I know. Shut up. When did you get so high and mighty?" he asked, standing and stretching his back, eyes squeezed tight as he yawned. "Maybe," he said in a large voice, through the yawn, "I should up your beatings per day." he finally closed his mouth, dropping his arms as a feeling of relaxation overcame him. That was a good stretch... "After all, your current level of discipline is clearly not enough."

Riku chuckled. "Come ooooon, Nex. You know you wanna stay here just as much as I do. Don't get worried about The Maker. Clair will beat him."

Nexev thought about this for a moment. "Or Aeon." he replied with a smirk.

"Nah, it'll be Clair. Aeon isn't tough enough."

"I don't serve weaklings, Riku."

"Never said he was weak. Just that he's not as strong as Clair."

"Oh? She certainly likes to do what he says often."

"That's cuz they're like, super best friends."

"Or because she's scared."

"You wanna go?!"

"Certainly."

The two glared at each other, both fully prepared to fight for the honor of their Master/Mistress. It wouldn't be the first time, however.

"Hmmmm. How uncouth."

Both Nexev and Riku went rigid for a moment, their argument forgotten, as they turned in the direction of the new sound.

Hanging from high off the ground, off of one of the walls in the high laboratory, was a figure garbed in thin, form-fitting armor. A small, almost cloth-looking breastplate, with a couple small shoulder pads. A belt which held up a red drape, which hung off the right side of the figure's body. A pair of simple red boots over black pantaloons. A bear left arm, but on his right, a red gauntlet with a hook sticking off of the side, currently jammed into the wall to support his hanging there.

He wore no mask, or helmet. Simply a plain face with clumps of brown hair that hung shaggily off his head. On his back, across the back of his waist, and at his waist, respectively, were three different objects that appeared to be swords of some kind.

Nexev's eyes narrowed in agitation. "And how long were you there?"

"Long enough," he replied, removing his hook from the wall and leaping to the floor. Neither action made a sound. "to know that your Organization is responsible for the thefts that have occurred."

"A dirty little spy." Riku mused, eyeing the guy up and down, looking for the easiest places to rip to shreds.

"If you were able to get in here completely unnoticed, despite how that baffles me, and obtain such vital information, why would you reveal yourself now?"

The man closed his eyes as he drew the sword he kept on the back of his waist-line, horizontally, revealing a Western Shortsword, and held the piece before him in the reverse position. "My method of entry was unable to double as a method of exit. I would have had to show myself eventually if I were to be able to leave here. Besides," he continued, opening his eyes. "Master Blood would have wanted me to kill you anyway, and take back the objects which you stole."

Riku laughed. "You think you can kill the both of us?"

"I do not have to fight you at once." he stated, quickly drawing out a Spell Card from his belt and slicing it in two.

The effect was immediate; a wave of light erupted from the guard in the form of a slash, flying through the air like a crescent moon. Nexev and Riku both performed quick side-steps to evade the slash, the wave coming too close for their comfort.

But the swordsman was not finished - he quickly made two more slices through the air - one behind him, and one to the left of him. Nexev realized then what he was doing, as he watched the slash-waves make contact with walls and other solid objects, only to stop in their tracks, leaving a trail of glittering energy behind them.

"You've created a cage." he remarked, knocking on an invisible wall beside him to emphasize his observation. "Those slashes have created a field of suspension in the air, cutting off outside force like a barrier."

Riku cursed, approaching Nexev and feeling for the wall that he couldn't see. "He doesn't want any interference, obviously."

"That is correct." The Swordsman answered. "Fights should always be one on one. This ensures we won't have any unnecessary interruptions. And when I am finished with you, I shall get to the other." he added, referencing Riku.

Unfortunately for Riku, the new inviso-wall cut him off from the Lab's door as well as Nexev, meaning he couldn't even leave and inform anyone. "Oh well." he stated loudly. "Guess you'll just have to kill him on your own, hmm Nex?"

"Indeed." Nexev replied, calmly approaching the table that was still behind him and plucking up his Gun. "I'm glad you didn't cut me off from this, Mr. Fair Fight." he remarked sarcastically. "Well then, if you're so intent on killing me, let's see what you've got."

Davok rested quietly in his bed in the infirmary. Around his shoulder, a large white had been wrapped, practically stuffed into his stump to prevent further blood loss. His soul was in agony from the battle he had fought. At the moment, he wanted nothing more than to relinquish his control and rest. But if he handed the body back to Demyx, his other half, the shock of the sudden pain would probably kill the fragile boy. And if he died, Davok died. Couldn't have that.

Still though, one thing he hated even more than the pain he was suffering was the feeling of uselessness. Until he recovered, he would be stationary. And therefore, he would be absolutely useless to do anything more.

Damn the foolish boy. Davok gritted his teeth as he thought of his current state. It was all because of his stupid other half. The same other half he needed to protect in order to live. Of all the bodies Davok could have chosen...

Well, it was certainly useful. Insanely useful, actually. And Demyx's personality made it easy for him to step aside and let Davok seize control. Everything about his choice of possession was perfect, except for the minuscule detail of the boy's heart. That damn pure heart that wouldn't yield to anyone, even Davok. It was the heart of Demyx, who had sworn allegiance and "Everlasting Super Happy Friendship" to Roxas, that forced Davok to follow these fools.

Several times, dozens of times even, Davok had tried to kill Roxas, Aeon, or Clair. But before he could even take one step in their direction after conceiving the thought, an impenetrable force clouded his mind and forced him to yield, refusing to allow him to lay one finger on them.

And when Clair handed down orders, it was that same force that compelled him to follow them. Damn Demyx and his accursed, pure-hearted loyalty. Davok would never understand it. And because of following those orders, he now lay in this pathetic condition...

Suddenly, he could sense something amiss. Something unsettling occurring within the Tower. He growled. He wanted to go and investigate this, but if he tried to move...

His left hand curled into a fist. He wouldn't even be useful right now unless he got his arm back. But shouldn't the alarm be going off? Nexev had one installed for in case things like this happened...and Davok could tell that SOMEthing was happening.

How odd.

-

Nexev stumbled through the darkness, clutching his now bleeding torso as his eyes flicked around for what he couldn't see. "Bastard..." he mumbled to himself, but no sound could be heard.

"Spell Card: Umber Cloud." the Swordsman had announced, before releasing the Spell he now held. All around the duo, light began to bend, twirl, and reflect upon itself, until no light could reach the area of their combat. Complete and total Darkness surrounded them.

Nexev had tried to say something then, but no sound would come either. His sense of sight and hearing seemed to have completely turned off.

That's when the slash came.

"This is ridiculous." he stated, even knowing he wouldn't be able to hear himself. "I can't see, or hear a thing. But he supposedly can." he grumbled, hand tightening around his gun. And I can't see which bullet I'm ready to fire...

A whoosh of air. Nexev barely managed to dodge what was obviously the man's blade, which nearly took off his neck. Glaring at the darkness, Nexev held his hand out and conjured forth a large block of solid iron, which would hopefully crash down on the foe before him.

It definitely crashed, he concluded, based on the air, the sudden impact reverberating through the ground, and the feel of Iron against his fingertips when he reached to touch it. Unfortunately, he still couldn't SEE it, nor could he hear the crash. So he didn't know if it had landed on his foe like he had hoped.

Fighting deaf and blind was certainly an inconvenience. He turned his back to the iron and pressed himself against it. There. At least that's one angle he can't attack me from, he thought as he started smackinf the base of the large block with his foot, trying to feel for any appendage sticking out that might indicate he was successful. Meanwhile, his eyes began to fruitlessly scan the darkness, hoping to find even a glimmer of light.

Thank goodness for the military training he had endured years ago - without those honed instincts, the sword that had come out of nowhere may just have gone straight through his head. Instead, it managed to just nick off a piece of Nexev's ear before it reverberated against the Iron behind him.

Nexev was actually thankful for the lack of site when he felt the warm ooze on his left ear, deciding that he didn't want to see the piece that had been cut off. Rather than scream about the pain (it wasn't that bad, right?), Nex instead reacted quickly, reaching out to wrap his fingers around a retreating wrist, preventing the Swordsman's escape as he brought his gun up to where his chest should be and (hoping for the best), pulled the trigger.

He felt a shock run through the body he held as it flew backward, and could feel the sudden drop in air temperature. He smirked an invisible smirk - his memory had always been good. He had been certain that he had left a Frost Shell as his first bullet in the chamber. And the second shell was a Mist Shell, which contained a chemical imbalance of Chlorine and a few "homebrewed" chemicals, separated by a barrier. Upon being fired, it would emit a cloud of lethal poisonous mist upon the enemy.

He stepped forward, using his hand to guide him to the chunk of ice that his foe must now be frozen into. "If you can hear me, I advise you call off your spell. There might be a small chance of me sparing your life if you do." he spoke, hoping his voice sounded casual (since he really couldn't tell for himself).

But his enemy was definitely here. Feeling around had found him an arm, and a face. How troublesome that he couldn't use his own Spell Cards on this menace. Without being able to see, he would just be casting them at random, not knowing what he was doing.

To Nexev's (non-visual) relief, a sound finally came back to him. "Despite being locked in the unknown, you managed to freeze me. And now you threaten me. Do not think me foolish - if you really wanted the effects of my magics lifted, you could simply kill me. But you ask me to lift the effects myself, threatening my life in doing so - this means you are unsure. You do not know if the Spell Card I unleashed is a permanent Spell, or if it dies with the caster. And I'm not about to tell you. Do you want to risk killing me?"

Nexev wasn't sure if his adversary could see him or not, although he guessed he could, so he tried not to show any signs of irritation on his face. "True, I don't know if this Spell will vanish with you." he stated, happy to hear his own voice again. "But I also know that you are in a helpless situation. You wouldn't have answered me otherwise, and would have simply left the air deaf."

"You are a smart one. But answer me this. Even if I were to lift the veil of darkness, what would do then? You say my life might be spared, but I doubt you're so generous."

"Have it your way, then." Nexev replied, aiming forward, ready to pull the trigger. Until suddenly, a searing pain was running up his arm, and he couldn't feel his fingers anymore. It took him a moment to realize his hand had been cut off. He screamed, but his cries were once again silenced by the magic The Swordsman seemed to control.

Backing up quickly, he hastily applied his magic to the wound, fortifying the blood he could feel draining out into a thicker substance, forcing clotting. He then wasted no time in slowing the molecules in that blood to a standstill in his wrist, shutting down the cells and initiating a flash-freeze. The pain immediately numbed into a dull ache as he breathed a breath he had been holding. There. That would stop any damage for the time being.

He then glanced upward as a piece of ice smacked into his face. That couldn't be good - his opponent must have been breaking loose. He had probably used his free arm to draw out the sword on his back. That was also likely what had caused the loss of Nexev's hand. He grimaced in realization; the Swordsman had properly been buying time with that small talk while he used that manipulation of Sound to yank his sword from its sheathe without Nexev knowing. Clever. Except it told him that the man had obviously not wanted to die, which indicated that he probably knew he had no sway over Nexev's actions.

So if the scientist was guessing correctly, this Darkness would in fact disappear with the man's death. He hastily ran forward the few feet he had backed up, feeling around for his gun with his still in-tact hand. He just had to kill him, and he would be free...

-

Riku stood outside the invisible wall, crossing his arms in evident annoyance. After the invader had sprung that Spell Card, the entire area inside the barrier had gone black. Completely black, to the point where Riku couldn't even see the faintest indication of motion inside. He also stopped being able to hear what they were saying.

"You had better win this thing, Nex..." he muttered, eyes straining at the Darkness in an effort to find what couldn't be found. A sudden scent caught his nose. Coppery, salty, and warm. The smell of blood. He frowned. "And that had better not be your blood."

-

"Watcha doin' Zex?" Clair asked as she came strolling out onto the balcony of Aeon's room, finding the man lazing in a chair quietly.

"What are you doing in my room, Clair?"

"Your sofa was lumpy tonight, so it kept me up, and I decided to see what was going on with you."

He scoffed. That damn sofa was always lumpy. But to her, it seemed to change on a daily basis. Rather than argue that with her though, he instead decided to inform her of what was going on.

"Nexev is fighting." he stated, looking into a Spell Card he was holding. "And he just lost his left hand."

"Seriously?" Clair asked, loping around to lean over his shoulder and look down at the Spell Card. "Oh wow, he did. So, this is happening right downstairs? How come we can't tell?"

"Well, for starters, the lab is at least a dozen levels beneath us. Plus, Nex's opponent can manipulate sound from the looks of things - I already checked the terminal in my room, and the alarm has been going off for the last hour. If we were actually downstairs, we wouldn;t even be able to see the fight, as his opponent has casted some kind of Spell card that bends light and removes visibility. I can only see it through this Spell Card because its surveillance Magic can pierce through other obstruction magics."

"Wooooooow." Clair said in a falsely amused voice. "So....why are you not helping him?"

"Why would I?" he replied with a grin. "This fight is the ultimate test of loyalty for Nex. We've been wondering about that, haven't we? If he truly has any shred of loyalty left for The Maker, he'll probably turn traitor if things look like they're getting to rough for him."

"Heehee. I don't have to worry about that with Riku - he's completely devoted to me."

"I'm aware of that." Aeon replied dryly, sending a meaningful glance at Clair's teeth. "I don't think I have to worry about Nex, either. I'm confident in his loyalty to me, almost to the point where I could trust him with anything. This is just a formality - if it becomes evident to me that Nexev will not turn on us, rest assured, I'll be there to bail him out....however, I don't think that will be necessary either."

"Oh? you think he's strong enough to win, deaf and blind, and with only one hand?"

"If it's a question of strength, then no. But remember who he serves under - I wouldn't have chosen him if he didn't bear the signature intelligence and cunning that anyone in the Blue Squad should possess."

"Smartypants." Clair retorted with a giggle. "Well then, Nexy, don't let us down now." she said to the card.

"Clair," Aeon said, placing the card down for a moment. "Are you packed yet? we are leaving in a day or two, and you're notorious for doing things last minute."

Clair waved him off. "Come on, I'll do it later."

"No, you're going to do it now."

"Damn it Zex, I wanna watch the fight!"

"Fine. But as soon as it's over, we're packing your things."

"We?"

"Please. I can't trust you to pack your own things on your own. You'll be up all night trying to stuff all of your belongings into one suitcase because you're too lazy to get more."

She giggled at that. "Yeah....true."

-

Just as his hand had grasped his fallen gun, another piece of ice had flown off from the nearby chunk and had hit him again. Nexev blinked. He could have sword he just saw....a glint.

If he had had a free hand, he would then slapped himself on the forehead. Of course! This Spell Card steals vision away by bending the natural light in the area and causing it to reflect into itself, so that it never reaches the eyes of the victim. But water, even frozen, reflects light as well! If it just enters a patch of of reflected light, and then bounces that reflection outward... he began to think to himself as he ran off in a random direction. How could he have not realized something so simple?

Using his foot to feel around, he managed to find the boundary of the area in which he was fighting, one of the barriers. He then called upon the magic in his soul, creating a swarm of minerals in the air that bunched together roughly, hardening and shaping itself into a fine crystal. Nexev couldn't properly see his work, but from tried practice, he was sure the crystal was satisfactory. He then mentally manipulated the sizable chunk of refractory material, raising it up into the air in random directions, hoping to find....there! A glint! Smiling, he moved it further in the direction that he had found. Come on...

All at once, an large ray of light fell onto him, temporarily blinding his dark-adjusted eyes. Yes! he mentally exclaimed. He had found it! A spot of inter-reflection that could bounce right through the clear, angled crystal he had forged, and send light outward.

"Now stay there." he said smugly, his voice still silenced. Within the immediate area, everything looked regular again. Same old pale blue laboratory. But beyond the boundary of the pillar of light he had found, everything was still pitch black. No matter. His crystal would continue to float there, as instructed, and provided him with plenty of light to simply create more reflections.

His foe had just lost their only valuable weapon.

From their seat on the balcony, both Clair and Aeon smiled.

Plus Zex you should have done BB first' date=' he could have had acceleration which flings items at super high speeds turning everything into a bullet.

Then give him a bat and he can summon zombies, set them alit, them knock thier heads off at high speeds.

[/quote']

Peh. I don't need no pussy powers to beat people into a state of nigh-death. I just need my trusty Splodathrowa. Though improvised projectiles are so fun and hilarious, so props on that.

Aha, now Nexev has lost an appendage. Let's see how he feels. >=D

[spoiler=Chapter 5]

Y.C.Manga - Chapter 5: When Everyone Has an Ingenious Plan that Can't Fail, Someone's Bound to be disappointed.

The Swordsman gritted his teeth angrily. Most individuals didn't really think to exploit the mechanics of his Spell Card...they just assumed it was witchcraft. But this one was clearly different - even after losing his hand, he remained calm, and was coherent enough to realize that the darkness operated under scientific principals.

And now he could see.

"Please tell me you have more." Nexev's voice came to him, the scientist looking bored. "You make a great assassin, considering you can seal sight and sound, but if you're stopped in your tracks by someone smart enough to see through your trick - literally - then you should have a backup, shouldn't you?"

Lowering his eyes to a half-lidded state, the man nodded, temporarily releasing his hold on sound. "Of that you are correct. I'm quite surprised, honestly, that you managed to fight so well even before gaining your sight back. You seem to be able to judge distance, time, and direction excellently."

"What did you expect? do you have any idea who you're dealing with?"

The Swordsman shrugged. "Why don't you enlighten me?"

"No, I won't. Knowledge is the best weapon one can have in battle, and should not be given away so freely. That is the Iron Law of the Blue Squad."

"Ah, but now you have told me what squad you belong to in this Organization."

"Yes, and it was quite intentional. After all, you've already gathered that I battle with my wits - what have you to gain by realizing my squad?"

The assassin's brow creased; he was right about that. This guy must have liked being right. But right or wrong didn't matter to him. All that mattered was winning.

"Enough banter." Nexev announced, waving his hand as several more large crystal structures appeared, arranging themselves in various positions in the air, each one refracting more light, spreading the illumination through the darkened sphere of battle. "It's high time I finished this."

The Swordsman shook his head, sighing, before drawing out a new Spell card from within his armor. "Spell Card - Lack of Perception in the Six Senses."

The name alone was an immediate tip-off to Nexev, who braced himself for whatever might come. The Card disintegrated in the assassin's hand...and nothing appeared to happen. The scientist knew better than to believe that. Thinking quickly, he drew out his own Deck of Cards, nimble fingers quickly plucking one out. "Spell Card - Twin Ice Auger".

On either side of the scientist’s body, an enormous icy structure rose from the ground, blocking him off from the outside world. His intuition proved to be correct, as a large blade suddenly came into contact with the ice from behind him. Nexev blinked - in front of him, he could now see the Swordsman running toward his left, making to attack from behind him.

'What...?' directly in front of him, the assassin's large blade was suddenly thrust through the ice, toward his face. He jumped back in surprise, seeing his opponent behind him suddenly, making the same move he had just....

"Impossible..." he muttered to himself. "Not a clone...I'd realize that. and yet, it's like he's in two places at once."

He pulled another card from his robe, watching the assassin's actions carefully as he ticked away pieces of his icy shield. "Spell Card - Emerald Thrush."

The ice around him exploded into a sudden rapid-fire of freezing chunks, raining assured pain on the troublesome swordsman. Before him, he could see the swordsman's body fly backward as it was struck by the ice, flinching in pain...and then it vanished.

Turning quickly behind him, he could see the other swordsman, running around him as it prepared to attack him from the front. But what caught Nexev's attention was the fact that his Icy shards were passing right through this swordsman. Realization dawned on the scientist at last, as the second assassin rounded to face him, driving its sword toward Nexev's face.

He didn't move this time, allowing the blade to pass right through him. He then watched in amusement as the body took a couple swings, hitting something invisible, and then abruptly flew backwards and hit the ground, slowly getting up.

"I see. You've slowed my ability to perceive time. Quite tricky, I must admit. You perform an action, but I don't see it actually happen for another five seconds afterward. But it seems that if you get within five feet of me, I can see you again, along with your afterimage, making it seem like there's two of you, when in fact, there is only one - the second is merely an image of what you were doing five seconds ago."

He could see the afterimage had begun to run, but then suddenly stopped about five seconds after his explanation had began. Uncanny. Nexev reacted quickly, summoning forth one of his favorite items - a large, blue shield with a long design as opposed to a circular one, and sharpened edges all around. It came out perfectly, as he had practiced creating this object several times before.

"Very Good." the Double spoke, just as Nexev saw the real swordsman suddenly come into his view, swinging his blade down, only to be blocked by Nexev's shield.

"I'm assuming that this slows my perception of sound as well? Five seconds ago, you must have thought that speaking to me would make me think you still hadn't moved, as your voice came from a considerable distance away - you must have hoped for me to drop my guard. But consider this - I already know you can simply suppress sound to begin with. If you let me hear anything, anything at all, when you could just cut off my hearing, then I would think it obvious that you were trying to trick me."

The swordsman narrowed his eyes at the man, grunting in disapproval, as he disengaged himself from the struggle between Sword and Shield, disappearing from sight.

"I know that look." Nexev announced with a grin. "Is there anything this guy can't figure out? That's what you're thinking, right?"

He watched the double move forward and swing, imitating the scene that had just happened, the figure locked in a struggle with an invisible person before it moved back, setting its sword down for a moment to stare at him in thought.

When the double attacked me just now, I could see that he moved from the left to the right, trying to clip me on my hand-less side...he seems to like picking out weaknesses. But he clearly doesn't realize that relying so heavily on such a strategy is a weakness in and of itself. I know where he's going to strike, most of the time. When he disengaged me, he moved diagonally to my right. He did that the first time, as well. He likes to stay on my battle-ready side when on the defensive so as to be prepared should I attack. Ugh, this would be so much simpler if Riku were here - he could just smell the bastard's blood and find him, and we'd be done with it.

The double began to move. It ran...backward, away from Nexev. He raised his shield immediately, prepared for a trick, but realize a moment later what was really going on. The double was heading in the direction of the Crystals - he was going to try once again to remove the light from the area.

Nexev smirked. "Getting desperate, I see." he murmured softly. By now, he would already be hacking away at one of the fragile rocks, and he simply couldn't see it yet.

"Bad move." Nexev announced loudly, dropping his shield and snapping his fingers.

All at once, a sudden rush of sound greeted him. The sound of shattering stone, the sound of a scream, the sound of steel clattering to the floor. Any patches of darkness left in the area vanished completely, and the afterimage of the swordsman, which had been swinging at nothing, vanished.

The truth now finally lay before Nexev. As per his instructions, via the snap of his fingers, all of his crystals had suddenly altered their shape, jutting outward in large, violent spires. And hanging off one of those spires was the assassin, the large spike sticking straight through his stomach and protruding out of his back.

"Clearly, you've never fought a Create-User, have you?" he asked dryly. "If you had, you would have known that anything they forge is under their constant control. To think you were stupid enough to approach one of my creations...it's laughable. And as predicted, the sudden amount of oppressive pain flooding your senses has caused you to lose all control of your magic, hasn't it?"

Riku was now once again visible, and he began to approach through the now-absent barrier toward the pair.

The swordsman was struggling in vain to pull himself off of the spire, blood leaking from his mouth as he garbled out nonsense. Nexev sighed. "Some people just aren't graceful losers." the scientist pulled his gun from his waist, where it had been securely holstered, aiming at the assassin's back. "Allow me to drive a point home." he stated, firing the bullet.

After the crack, the bullet lodged itself into the writhing body. Nexev quickly fired a second one, the second following suit with the first.

"That first bullet is now giving your blood, organs, and bones a more liquid-like quality to it. Hardly noticeable by itself. But the second bullet is now converting all that liquid into ethanol - you'll dissolve slowly, little by little. And here's the point: only the worst imaginable fates await those who stand before the Organization. Think about that as you evaporate."

Riku laughed. "Denying him a quick death? How cruel of you. So, have you arrived at your conclusion then? Not still scared, are you?"

Nexev slapped Riku soundly across the face. "I was never scared to begin with, Riku. You drew a conclusion that I simply didn't acknowledge, nor refute. The whole reason for my apprehension, Riku, was personal resolve. When I set out on my mission, I finish it. I simply needed to decide if I was willing to abandon my initial mission from The Maker in exchange for completing my current mission with The Organization.

And to answer your question, yes, I have decided; I shall see this through till the end." Nexev explained, turning back to the swordsman, whose body was slowly dissipating into the air. "As for you, I'll tell you now - the one you were dealing with was the Second to the Captain of the Blue Squad. The moment you chose me as your opponent, your fate was sealed. Let's go, Riku."

Riku nodded, smirking even while he rubbed his slapped cheek. "I'll go and grab the artifacts. You tell Claire what happened; looks like we're going to have to leave pretty soon here."

"No need to tell her anything." Aeon's voice cut across the room. Both of them looked to the top of the staircase out of the lab, where the Blue Leader stood within the doorframe. "She and I already watched the whole thing. Good job, Nex."

"Where's she at?" Riku asked curiously.

"Packing." Aeon replied with a touch of sternness in his voice. "She's been putting it off for too long, now. In any case, we can't leave just yet." he explained as he began to languidly step down the stairs, watching the last of the intruder's body disappear into nothingness. "I'm not quite ready, yet. I'll need a bit more time - a day, tops. Besides, we can't leave before Raven arrives."

Nexev wrinkled his brow in irritation at the name. "Why?"

"Don't play dumb, Nex." Aeon chuckled. "I know you don't like her, but she's an important member of our team. She's getting back from the mission I sent her out on a week ago today, and I don't plan on going anywhere until she gets here."

Riku chuckled as Nexev sighed. "Fine then. Now, as long as we're sticking around, I'll be needing to tend to this." the scientist announced, holding up his stump of a left wrist.

Riku laughed out loud at that. "So much for a flawless victory, huh? Hahahahaha!"

"Shut up, Riku." Nexev replied, also feeling at his gashed torso. "I'll be heading to the infirmary, then."

Aeon nodded as Nexev passed, exiting the large lab. As soon as he was gone, Aeon turned to Riku. "So, second opinion?"

Riku nodded. "He's definitely on-board. He was being honest."

"Excellent." he replied. "I'd have hated to think he wasn't totally loyal. Well, I guess I'll be off as well. Claire will be needing help packing." he waved as he, too, made for the exit.

Riku sighed. "Guess that leaves me to clean up the mess in here. Again."

The sun rose the next morning on an irritable Blood, who sat rigidly in his seat by the window. That damned Swordsman hadn't contacted him again. Just like Nagato. Either they had quit, which was unlikely for a Bounty hunter, or they were being killed. He was leaning toward the latter belief. And on top of that, there had been no additional leads on the locations of the stolen artifacts, despite all of Icy's and Rose's investigation.

And they seemed to be avoiding investigating the Organization, just to spite him. He still had JG and Omega, as well as that trio who insisted upon working together. He would just need to give them better orders. He wasn't getting anywhere by having them get themselves killed. He would see to it that Claire was brought down if it was the last thing he did.

He rose from his chair, leaving the comfort of his private quarters as he made his way to the Administrative Meeting Chamber - there was another meeting today. Hopefully one that would result in some actual action taking place.

-

"The Maker and Fallen are still nowhere to be seen?" Rose asked with incredulity, eying the two vacant thrones in the meeting chamber. Darth sighed.

"Yes, we still haven't had any contact with them. It's becoming worrisome."

Blood tapped his fingers impatiently against his throne as he looked about the room. "Forget about all that. How is the investigation regarding the thefts coming along?"

A few of the Mods shot him dirty looks, but Darth merely cleared his throat. "we're at a standstill. There is not a single trace of physical, or magical, entry. We have nothing to follow. Although it has been suspected that the thief may have had a metaphysical method of entry that we have been unable to detect. As such, we're calling in some investigators from outside the Kingdom."

"Outside?!" Glass piped up. "How can we trust them?!"

"Glass, it's not like we don't have relations with other Kingdoms." Crab spoke up, sounding a tad annoyed at the young moderator.

Glass seemed to withdraw into his chair a bit, mildly intimidated by the senior member.

"On another note," Rose added to the conversation. "Opal is coming back in, today."

"Oh, is she?" Darth responded, interest mildly piqued.

"Yes. She left about a week ago, for those of you who don't know, on paid leave. I hope she enjoyed her vacation, because she's not gonna like coming home to all this mess."

There was a grumble of exasperated agreement throughout the chamber. "Anything else we need to discuss?"

Icy scratched his chin in thought, before nodding. "Well, we've been putting off the mundane requests of the citizens in light of our recent situation. Should we tend to those now, as long as we don't have much else to do?"

"Ugh. You're suggesting we do paperwork?" the almost snarl-like quality of Blood's voice responded.

"Yes, Blood, I am. It's part of our duty as Administrators to handle the affairs of the Kingdom's citizens. I'm well aware that you only want to avenge your stupid pride and find the culprit who stole from you, but we all have work to do beyond that."

"Where the hell do you get off acting all high and mighty?"

"I'm simply saying what I see; you never show any real care for any administrative affairs beyond what can directly affect you. You don't care about the citizens, our general duties, or even the rights of the people you hate. I honestly don't think you're cut out to be an Administrator."

"Icy," Darth warned. "You're crossing into dangerous territory with those words."

"I'm well aware, Browarod. And I'm fully prepared to deal with the consequences of them."

"Is that right?" Blood demanded, standing from his throne to glare furiously at Icy. "Then I'll be happy to bring those consequences. I challenge you, Icy."

"Oh, here we go..." Rose sighed. Similar reactions occurred around the room - J-Max hung his head, Glass shook it, Browarod brought up two fingers to rub at his temples, Crab merely rolled his eyes, Haptism brought a pair of fingers to the bridge of his nose, and the majority of the as of yet unnamed Administrators more or less repeated those actions.

"Very well, Blood. I accept."

-

The news was spread over The Kingdom like wildfire. Within the hour, nearly everyone within the great walls knew of the event that was to occur later on in the evening. The advocates of free media were, as always, responsible for this.

Icy was a bit miffed, personally. He himself completely detested these public shows of fighting. And yet, here he was, involved in one. It doesn't matter. Blood needs to be put in his place.

Icy sat silently within his quarters, flipping through the Cards he had at his disposal. The rules that had been set up for this match called for a limit of 15 Spell Cards per combatant. Blood was the type of opponent he knew could drive a normal individual to the point of exhausting their entire Spell Deck. Icy needed to choose his cards carefully.

"You're really going through with this?" Rose asked from the other end of the room, drumming away at the keys of Icy's computer, trying in vain to find any additional information on the thefts that she might have missed. "I never really took you for the type of person to instigate a fight."

"I'm not. But this is an exception, Rose; I can't keep standing idly by while Blood continues to exhibit the signs of one who is not cut out to be one of us. Darth, Crab, Fallen, and The Maker himself all seem to be perfectly content with turning a blind eye to his actions, as well as his lack of action. On top of that, I always get this shady feeling when I'm around him. Like he's up to something."

"Those feelings of yours have a habit of being right. Even still, are you sure you can handle him?"

"Detection versus ESP....huh, I wonder." Icy chuckled, selecting another one of his Spells to join his growing Deck of 11.

-

In a small, run-down looking gym, a lone figure spent his time punching away at a worn out punching bag. All around him, there were targets posted on the walls, hanging dummies of people with holes in them, and strange-looking machines.

Nearby, on a small bench, a cellphone went off, ringing loudly. The man at the Punching Bag abruptly stopped with his activities, wiping his brow with a towel on his shoulder, and wandered over to the bench, where he plucked up the phone.

"Hello?"

"JG. It's Blood. It seems like two of your colleagues have been eliminated. You still up for a challenge?"

"I'm not an idiot, sir. With all do respect, those two were quite skilled; if they were taken out, I'm going to need some extra compensation for risking myself with this mission."

"Ugh. What the hell do you want? More money?"

"Not at all." JG answered with a smirk, glancing over at his battle armor, in a pile by the door. "But I wouldn't mind getting a hand on one of those stolen artifacts."

"Excuse me? I can't give you that. You should know that."

"Then I'm afraid we have no deal."

"And who are you to negotiate with me? You accepted a job from an Administrator! Do you understand just how easily I could have you arrested? There is no evidence that suggests I hired you. If I wanted to turn you in, you would be the only one to go down."

"You sure about that? Because, you know, I happen to have a little recorder in my helmet. Any good Bounty Hunter knows not to trust the employer. Did YOU really think I would be unprepared for blackmail?"

There was a furious silence on the other end of the line. "I'll up your pay, and get you some other treasure. One of my personal collection. But not one of the stolen ones. Do we have a deal?"

JG thought about this for a moment. "I suppose so. Alrighty then, I'll let ya go. You have a fight to be getting to, don't you?" without waiting for an answer, the hunter hung up, stretching with a yawn.

Well, time for a shower. And then he'd take to the skies.

-

Emoswa, a guard in the Card-Maker Kingdom, leaned lazily back against the gate he was charged to guard. "You know, I wouldn't mind having such a lax job as this if it weren't for the poor pay." he complained to his fellow, another guard named Shade.

"I know what you mean. We have to stand out here in the sun all day, waving visitors in and waving vacationers out, and we get hardly more than minimum wage."

"I should have listened to my mother and became a Card Salesman. It's unreliable work, but it can bring in a lot more money."

"Mine wanted me to become a Medical Magician. Imagine that. I might have done it, too, if it weren't for my father demanding I get a "Man's Job". I thought it would be easier to just accept it."

"Heh, yeah...hey, what's that?"

Off in the distance, the two could see a black-ish object making a beeline toward them, approaching at an impressive speed. Both guards were at the ready, drawing out Spell Cards and arming themselves with their standard-issue swords.

As the object drew nearer, it became apparent that it was a motorcycle, and didn't seem to be exhibiting any signs of slowing down. Both guards braced themselves for an inevitable impact as the machine got within 20 feet of them, before abruptly twisting to the side and screeching forward, finally coming to a halt about Ten inches away from Emoswa. The guard let out a breath he hadn't known he was holding.

The individual atop the bike rose from their hunched form, tugging off the helmet she wore to let lose a shining mane of midnight-black hair. She turned her now unobstructed gaze upon the two guards, flashing a winning smile as she tugged out an ID card.

"Opal here, returning to duty."

"AH! Miss Opal! I had no idea. You scared us there." Shade laughed a bit nervously.

"Sorry about that," she responded with a similar laugh. "I just love going fast. Anyway, do you think you could be a dear and open the gate for me?"

"Oh, uh, yes! Right away!" they quickly responded, stepping back and striking rigid poses. "Open the Gate!" they called out in unison, stern looks on their faces as they both struck the ground with the tips of their blades at the same time.

Behind them, the gate lit up and glowed for a moment, before sliding open to allow entry.

"Thank you!" the woman responded cheerily, placing her helmet back on her head as she revved her machine, made a quick doughnut, and sped off into the Kingdom.

"...I think I'm in love." Shade announced.

-

Humming a jaunty tune to herself as she sped through the streets, narrowly avoiding killing several individuals amidst screams of surprise, the woman made her way to the largest tower she could see amidst the entirety of the Kingdom.

"Hmmm. I'm coming home, Master~"

Several more individuals found themselves jumping bodily out of the way as she sped down the roads, shaking their fists, or crying out in peril. She promptly ignored them all.

Riku happened to be perusing a fine selection of fresh fruit in one of the sales stands that littered the road when the sound of a roaring engine reached his ears. Perking up, he looked down the road only to see the screaming people and shining black of the motorcycle as it sped toward him.

"Oh my." he exclaimed, drawing a Spell quickly to his hand. "Spell Card - Blood Shield." he called as the card activated, emitting a large red bubble around his body.

Through her visor, she could see the shield, her eyes widening as she abruptly tried to avoid it, pulling the same twist and stop trick she tried at the gate. Unfortunately, it proved to be too close this time, as she collided with the bubble, bouncing off and cart wheeling comically through the air as a result.

"Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh~!" she mock cried in glee as she abandoned the bike in midair, leaping off of it and landing safely on the ground.

The bike hit a building behind her, and promptly exploded.

She frowned at the now scarred building behind her, tugging off her helmet and dropping it on the ground. It, too, exploded.

"Wow. That's different." she muttered, turning to face the one with the shield.

"Oh, hey, Raven!" Riku cried in glee as soon as he saw whom it was, dropping his shield immediately.

"Riku? Oh, hey! Awesome! You owe me a bike, by the way." she replied, running over to him to give him a potent hug. "Long time no see!"

"Yeah! You nearly killed me!" he replied enthusiastically, laughing it off.

"Yeah, sorry about that. But you were in the way."

"I was buying fruit."

"What do you need fruit for?"

"Demyx asked me to get it."

"Oh. Well, that makes sense."

"Huckleberries."

"Figures."

"He really likes them."

"That he does."

"Shall we go?"

"Lets."

Their pointless bout of conversation completed, the two clasped hands and made their way happily back to the Tower, Riku scooping up the bag of Huckleberries without paying for them (as usual), silencing the angry shopkeeper with a threatening look and a claw placed dangerously at a throat.

-

Aeon blinked a couple of times. Already? That was faster than expected.

The girl in front of him gave him a coy smile. His look of surprise melted away to reveal a grin. "Raven. My sweet Raven."

"Master~!" she called happily as she leaped into his awaiting arms, snuggling into him as he patted her head and whispered sweet nothings into her ear.

Riku stood in the doorway, looking away politely. "Do you two always have to be like that?"

"Like you're not the same way with Claire." Roxas announced as he arrived on the scene. "Raven, good to have you back." he said, directing his attention toward her.

Finally remembering propriety, the girl tactfully withdrew from Aeon's arms to smile at Roxas. "Good to be back. And I'll be happy to give you all a report on my mission a bit later, after I've settled in. I'll be needing to check in with the mods, too, to keep up appearances."

"Of course." Roxas nodded. "And speaking of them, they're having a little...spat, this evening."

"They are?" she asked, curiosity evident.

"Apparently, icy and Blood are finally going to have it out. about damn time, if you ask me." Riku answered, finally thinking to close the Tower's front door, lest prying ears be present.

Raven nodded at him. "Then I suppose I'll have to feign stress and worry when I go and see the Administrators. That's what Opal would do, after all." she giggled. "By the way, where is everyone? It's a ghost town in here."

Aeon sighed. "Claire is still packing, what with having waited so long to start. Davok and Nexev are both in the infirmary, having recently suffered some battle wounds. I'll explain that later. Amethyst and EZ are tending to them right now. As for everyone else...I dunno. Either packing or preparing for the move."

"Are we already ready to leave?" she asked in surprise.

"Not quite yet. Aeon still needs to finish the last of his preparations, and Nex has insisted that there are some last minute additions to the new Kingdom he wants to make. But we will be ready very shortly." Roxas answered for her. "Now, speaking of that, I need to head out - me and Sleeve have some last minute preparations of our own to see to."

Aeon nodded in understanding. "Got it. I'll check up on things on my end, as well. Will I be seeing you at the fight tonight?"

"Heh, of course. wouldn't miss that for the world. Icy had better give it to Blood good." and with that, he turned on his heel, heading off to take care of whatever business needed handed.

"Master? What is it he's going off to do?" Raven asked.

"Yeah, I'm curious as well." Riku added.

"Oh, nothing major. He and Sleeve just need to see what they can do about lifting some information out of the Mod Tower. With Davok incapacitated and myself being otherwise occupied, they're the best ones for the job."

There was a collective "Ah" between the two.

"Well then, Raven, I do believe you should go and get yourself ready for departure." the schemer announced.

"Ah yes, right away, Master." she acknowledged happily. "I suppose I should be paying a visit to the Mod Tower."

-

"How pathetic. They couldn't have screamed "obvious" any louder." JG remarked, clad in his suit of technological armor. The hunter was hovering lazily, high above the streets of the Kingdom, and had been watching the entire ordeal with Raven as she flew through the streets toward the Organization Tower. Were the Administrators really so stupid that they would be completely unaware of her activities when she made such an obnoxious ruckus? Needless to say, JG had decided it wise to place an audio tracker on her Motorcycle.

However, it had exploded.

None the less, he kept an eye on her, watching as she entered the Tower before switching to Thermal readings with his Helmet's visor. She was just talking, from the looks of things.

Still, she had been associating with his employer's mortal enemies, it seemed. As such, he should probably report it.

"Blood. JG here. I have information that you may find relevant regarding one of your Administrators. I just watched as Opal had extensive, familiar contact with several members of The Organization. Make of that what you will. Anyway, give me a call back." he stated, recording the message and sending it to his employer's receiver.

Now, what would his next move be? An outright attack on the Tower was out of the question. And Blood had the information on Raven, so there was no reason to do anything with her.

The fight. They would be making their way to the fight later on. The members of the Organization always attended those things.

Hmmm. I guess I could keep an eye on who attends, pick one out, and go after them. If I can get a higher-up, even better. I'll get that information on the artifacts one way or another - no one withstands my torture.

Nodding to himself in satisfaction, he powered down his suit, resting easily atop one of the neighboring towers while he activated the suit's cloaking mechanism. He would just need to wait now. Something he was quite used to doing.

-

Huge spotlights illuminated the Stadium, spectators clamoring and shouting. What a rare opportunity! Two Administrators, duking it out in the eye of the public! Incredible!

"It looks like tonight is gonna be one of those rare nights where every spectator can go home happy, Jimma!" the obnoxious voice of one of the arena's two Narrators echoed throughout the stadium as many citizens on the Kingdom gathered to take their seats.

"That's right, Bobba, because when you a fight like this rolls along, who has room to complain about the victor?" the co-host answered.

In two separate quarters, out of the public's eyes, Icy and Blood both sat, awaiting the inevitable beginning of the fight to come. Tonight would decide quite a few things.

Of course, neither of them were aware of just how much would be decided.

TBC

And with that done, I guess I'll get cracking on the next chapter.

Yay for Google Translator. You know that that thing won't ever give you something accurate. (I did those by hand, BTW. :3)
