Niño
xDI grew up listning to Rock n' Roll for most of my life, can't say I'm too fond of it now though, at the moment I'm listning to King Creole sung by Elvis Presley. Discuss music you grew up with..
Enrise
I grew up with Metal and stuff. "You kids these days and your crap, hip-hop, techno, and your electronic music. Back in my day, we had real music, that's right, Metal, Rock, and Genres like them." Had to get that out sometime. That's the least non-offensive way to put it... I think. CinnamonStar
^That real music stuff is a discussion worse than the meaning of life that's been done millions of times and no one came to an answer that everyone will agree with. What is "real music" for you may not be for others and that doesn't mean it's more right than the others. And the fact that you don't count electronic music as "real music" already makes you look bad for many, including me.D: Trust me, I can name more Rock & Metal bands that are generic and just bad. Although I grew up with Rock mostly and my teenage time was filled with Metal but I don't think it's automatically "real" stuff. EDIT: If someone's out to get opinions across then present it as such. Not like some universal fact that superior minds like you have figured out.And STOP trying to look clever/sarcastic/whatever by coming with your dictionary entries, I know the meaning of words and if not I can look it up myself. CinnamonStar
Point taken.Nah I just kinda hate it when people smash me a dictionary on the ass, IDK it just sounds so...¬.¬Oh and posts deleted, don't want this to turn into an argument. But ok it's clear that people always have their opinions when it comes to what's real music and what not but still...others may not agree.

Brushfire
Can I just ask- How can people possibly consider a black person singing about an iPod with an autotune better than a song where a whole band contributes with meaningful lyrics, usually 2 guitars, bass and drums? CinnamonStar
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mSouk6GqAhA (same song but with scenes from Braveheart)Ok to all of you who don't look past genres, let's have a look at these guys. Oh yeah Celtic Rap, I bet most of you won't even look but still... I'd say this song has QUITE meaningful lyrics, it's not a guy singing about his iPod or his last cocaine orgy and they wrote their lyrics themselves. Well it's French but I can also translate if you still have doubts about their writing skills.I also like the instruments they're using here, ok they don't use a guitar but the music, instruments, chorus, I'd say everything fits right with the atmosphere and the whole scenery. I know it's not AWESOME, I could show you a lot of songs that are way better.Actually the next guy who posts Eluveitie gets shot, it's not the point about who's better, just saying that the autotuned stuff singing about iPods isn't always true...But I could also name you A LOT of horrible bands with 2 guitars and whatever trying to use meaningful lyrics. It doesn't guarantee that you're good, I'd say it's more important about how well you're doing your stuff. Oh yeah I got to know this band in my childhood, can't say I grew up with them but it came out in the 90s. It'd be pretty good if something like that came back, too bad the popular Rap these days isn't like that...*sigh*

Blue Lightning
I get what Brushfire is trying to say. Hes not talking about the genre altogether, hes just reffering to the fact that people say "real music" when comparing singing apoid iPods and a fully orchestrated, well thought-out song. Which I agree. I grew up listening to everything.

I'm just saying that people can consider some guy singing terrible lyrics with an autotune in the background better than a well-thought out and constructed song (you have no idea how difficult it is to write decent lyrics, then fit them together with the riff, then have the bass and drums match that riff and perhaps even throw in an original and difficult solo in there. It's funking torture). But there is terrible stuff in all genres, so yeah.
