Hey, everyone. I will be posting in all your threads in a moment. All new members have been added.

GXduelist, I will be inviting more people eventually, but not for a while. Also, Junior Members can always "graduate" into Legendary Status.

Derek, thanks for joining. That leaves only 2 unanswered invites, but neither of them are that active anyway. I say this is a pretty good turn out.

DJ-Osiris, can't wait to see it. You can post it anytime.

Finding the Right Words

December 17th 2007

We all have problems when it comes to wording cards just right. In my experience, there are 3 levels or PROPER wording.

1. Excessive “Old School” Wording

After this card is summoned (including Flip Summon and Special Summon), if this card is destroyed as a result of battle and sent to your Graveyard, you may remove this card from play to Special Summon 1 EARTH monster from your Deck to your side of the field.

2. Updated Wording

After this card is Normal Summoned, Flip Summoned, or Special Summoned, if it is destroyed by battle and sent to the Graveyard, you can remove it from play to Special Summon 1 EARTH monster from your Deck to the field.

3. Expert Player Wording

After this card is Summoned, if it is destroyed by battle and sent to the Graveyard, you can remove it from play to Special Summon 1 EARTH monster from your Deck.

I personally use #2 the most. It’s nice and short, and still lets new players understand the effect more clearly. So, here are a few quick tips to remember when card making.

1) You should be using “by battle” instead of “as a result of battle”, except in specific situations. Like, “...destroyed by battle by a LIGHT monster...” doesn’t sound right with everything being “by-and-by” (lol). So in rare situations like this, you should use the old wording. Otherwise, “by battle” is a lot shorter and easier to understand.

2) “remove” and “from play” are almost always joined together when you are not referring to the card with the effect. “Remove from play 3 monster in your Graveyard” is easier to understand than “Remove 3 monsters in your Graveyard from play” for beginner players.

3) When Special Summoning a monster, there is no reason to include “to your side of the field”. It is ALWAYS implied that the monster will be Special Summoned to your side of the field unless otherwise specified. If you want to go all “expert wording”, then you don’t even have to mention the field at all because there’s nowhere else you can Special Summon a monster to.

4) When selecting a monster on the field, use "a monster you control" or "a monster your opponent controls" instead of "a monster on your side of the field" or "a monster on your opponent's side of the field."

I hope these words of advice have helped.

After writing an article, I will update your profile so it displays the number of articles you have written, and a link to your last article. Like so:

Thought I'd do a basic article on pictures and on making them look proper and better. This is more for beginners. I'll post more indepth ones later...

BASIC IMAGE KNOWLEDGE

1. Finding pictures

I reccomend Photobucket, Google, and particularly Deviantart.com. Imageshack is great sometimes, but often delivers irrelevant results.

When searching, being specific makes all the difference. You will get much better results the more specific you are. If you want a Dragon, search for a specific type of dragon. (Dark Dragon, Water Dragon, etc.)

2. Making a picture look great

If a picture is not square, don't even bother trying to use it it a card without editing it. It won't look right on the image. I will post an article on this at a later time.

Edit out all signatures before using a picture. Also make sure your pic has a specified subject and is not too busy or irregular looking. I will post an article on this at a later time.

Always set your card's rarity to Rare if you wan't best image results. This makes the card's letters fancy with the silver lettering, but does not use the holo simulation on the top right hand corner of the card.

3. Random Tips

Try not to use overused images.

Cards with poor pics ALWAYS get less attention than those that look great.

Sets with similar images always work better than those without.

NEVER use actual photographs for an image.

Saving an image in .png usually has the best visual quality. However, this will not work when uploading card images on yugiohcardmaker. Use .jpg when you upload images for cards directly onto Yugiohcardmaker.

Make a photobucket account. It's quick and free. It also allows you to store your cards and card images for later use.

Do not use Black and White or hand Drawn pics if you want best quality

Like I said, I will post advanced pic editing articles later. This is just a basic overview.

Great debue article. Does it have a title (for hyperlink reference)? I for one especially agree with:

"Sets with similar images always work better than those without."

I like my ZTK cards, but I never felt right about the images. They were all kinds of styles, it looked like a disaster to me. I really prefer getting all my images from one source, like my Archangels and Dungeon Dice Monsters. Like you said, they look much better when they are all similar.
