NSMBW outsells MW2

Activision has bragged about Modern Warfare 2 selling 10 million units, solidifying that franchises always rule. However, while MW2 was riding a high wave of publicity and PR, another franchise was released around the same time; New Super Mario Bros. Wii. And it instantly became the fastest selling game in Japan, and has to date sold 3 million copies there, according to Famitsu.

Count in the sales from North America, 4 million, and Europe, 3 million, you get 10 million games sold + at least half a million in Australia and the rest of the world (like Korea and China), sales pass on the other side of 10 million, and surpass Modern Warfare 2, which was always thought to be the best selling game at this time.

It’s not. The best selling game is New Super Mario Bros Wii.

This is not a surprise really, MW2 although it did great sells its still another FPS which it will be replace by another FPS game while on the other hand Mario is an Icon and has presence in the world gaming even if NSMB is another Mario game its still fun to play.("looks back at SMB")

but both games are different and i'm happy with both of them since they meet my expectations. but Im glad Mario hasn't lost his touch.

And Mario will be replaced by... another Mario game, as they end up releasing pretty much the same game every time.

Indeed, except 2D platformers are a dying breed among the mainstream, so a new 2D Mario will get alot of attention. There are many more FPS games in comparison, meaning MW2 has it a little tougher, since while there *is* many more FPS games, it is more mainstream than platforming. Still, Mario has more brand recognition, and co-op play was a feature many have wanted (which, while fun, makes things harder), and Mario outselling MW2 is more than feasible, despite both being essentially, polished rehashes.

Although not surprising, it's pretty cool.

In my book' date=' MW2 outsells NSMBW any day.

In your book, fact is wrong?

Yeah, that seems about right. Although I'd like to add that MW2 was released on 3 platforms, whereas NSMBW was only released on one.

Although this is true, Mario is a game that easily will be dropped from the selves and then ordered for delivery when they come back in stock by families. It's such a fun game for when there are 2-8 people in the house (like our 'party' with 8 of us last Friday ;)).

indeed, its incredible that MW2 been release on 3 different platforms is getting outsold by NSMB that is on one console, perhaps that is what hurting MW2. but there is also the case of MW2 been pirate which could have contribute to not sell a lot but thats also the same case for NSMB.

It doesn't matter how many NSMBW titles were sold' date=' because everyone will get a new Mario game no matter what.

Isn't the same true of CoD? Hell it's more true since a new CoD games comes out every year while new Mario games (well at least the main games and not the random sports/party game) are rare.

Also' date=' there are thousands of Wii users waiting for an actual decent game on the Wii.

[/quote']

The Wii has a lot of good exclusives. In fact it's just as much as the 360 and PS3, so it's not that the Wii doesn't have good games, it's that people aren't willing to give the system and the games a chance.

MW2 is a better game.

So you say. IMO MW2 doesn't hold a candle to NSMBW.

It doesn't matter how many MW2 titles were sold, because the launch event kinda shows that nearly anyone who could would get a new Call of Duty game, no matter what. Also, there are thousands of 360/PS3/PC users waiting for a CoD game on their respective platorm.

NSMBW is a better game.

See how easy it is to use more opinion than fact?

I disagree with you strongly on this matter. The Wii can't hold it's own against the XB360 alone, not nearly against both the PS3 and the 360. There is no way that the Wii out-titles both 360+PS3 combined.

MW2 is a better game.

As with all video game discussions, it almost always seems to start out with the criticism of the actual video game, and then merge out into a 360 v. Wii v. PS3 discussion.

Yea it can. Name 20 different exclusives games on the 360 that are critically viewed as "good." And you think it's fair to try to out title two systems. You can't do that. In a stirctly 1 system verse 1 the Wii has just as many good exclusives as either system.

Also for even more fun try to list game that are 360 exclusives that don't have guns.

I understand why you don't like NSMBW, you don't like that kind of game, but that kind of thing shouldn't be brought up. It's all a matter of opinion and taste and it is for that reason that none of the systems are really better then the others.

MW2 and NSMBW are both great games in their subsequent game markets.

I'm ending it there.

The fact that you guys aren't hardcore gamers makes your opinion on NSMBW just as bias as ours is for MW2' date=' stop speaking as if what you say it fact (OTHER than it's outsold MW2). I like both games, but when you're just as bias as each other stop trying to sound so right.

[/quote']

Bias with a clear head. Oxymoron. That's hard to come around these days. He's right though.

I love MW2, it was great. I'm not a hardcore gamer at all.

Haven't played NSMBW, I've seen vids and if anything, Ill burn. (Is it single or dual layer btw?)

Either way, this amount of money made in this recession ntl is excellent!

If I was one of those people in the "guys" for the record I am a hardcore game. I follow the news fairly well and I know most of the big names game regardless of the system their on (I'd assume these two things are signs of being a hardcore game). However just because I still a hardcore gamer doesn't make my opinion any less bias. The simple fact is that I just don't like FPS and I love platformers.

And yea this topic is getting a bit out of hand, so if this keeps up I'm going to lock it.
