There's only a few of black dots that I'm finding hard to edit out, so just ignore them please and the tiny chunk that is chopped off one of the things hanging from his head.... my finger slipped.

You need to clean it up.

Rendering really isn't hard, just zoom in as far as you can and erase slowly.

(^ If you say "That will take too long!" then you shouldn't even be trying.)

Anywho, try going round the edge with a blur brush to die down the black a little. Might not do anything, but it sometimes helps.

I used the Paths Tool instead of Free Select and it worked a lot better.

Its better, but you need to work on the consistency of the outline, its very choppy, like you stopped and started.
