play format, and that

For all of the people who read my fic before, some of the characters have been changed, and all of the last names have changed. Also, the life points have been lessened to 4000 from 8000 due to it being easier to write with. I am also personally drawing the pics for the custom cards, so I'll post those when I'm done.
Here are some of the custom cards in the series. Keep in mind that I drew these, and I don't have photoshop anymore, so they kinda stink.
For all of you who are confused on Scion Monsters, and Scion Summoning let me explain:

1. Scion monsters are monsters who are placed in your extra deck, with fusions (Synchros haven't been made yet).

2. You can only Scion Summon a Scion Monster with the Trap Card "Sacred Seal of Summoning".

3. In the text of the Scion Monster, it will say something like "1 DARK monster + 1 LIGHT monster" or something like that. That means that you need to tribute monsters who have those requirements in addition to the "S.S.S" in order to Scion Summon

CHAPTER 1

An Ancient Battle Unlocks!

Scion Summon!

It was a bright sunny day in the town of Columndale. It was the third day of summer vacation, and all of the kids were sleeping in until noon. As the kids woke up one-by-one, they would go outside to enjoy the fresh summer air.

In recent years, the popular card game Duel Monsters has made a large impact on Columndale. Will Axels and his friends Matt Alstack, Beth Bardur, and Steven Jaill have all grown very accustomed to the game. Over the years, famous duelists have come to promote Duel Monsters in Columndale, such as Joey Wheeler, and Aster Phoenix.

One day, Will and his friends were hanging out in the town hang-out spot. The arcade.

“So did you guys here?” Will said,

“About what?” Matt asked. Will smiled and pulled out a small, folded up piece of paper. He unfolded it and showed it to them,

“Scott Bernards is coming to our town!” He said. The others let out a gasp. In recent years, Scott Bernards is a legend among duelists for creating a set of cards called the Scion Monsters. “Some people say he’s going to start a tournament right here in Columndale!” all of them looked at Will with a look of shock.

“Really!?” They all said in unison,

“It’s only a rumor, but why else would he come?” Suddenly, a man walked in. It was Tim, Will’s older brother. He walked over to the kids, and sat down next to them.

“What are you kids up too?” He asked. Tim was a college student, home for summer brake.

“Nothin’ much.” Will said,

“Did you know about this Tim!?” Steven shouted. He took the piece of paper out of Will’s hands and showed it to Tim. He smiled, and nodded his head, “Isn’t it cool!”

“I’m not gonna lie,” Tim said, “But I myself am kinda pumped to see this famous dude in the flesh.”

“So why’d you come here, Tim?” Will asked,

“We gotta head home, little bro,” He said. “Mom and dad are waiting for you.”

“Really?” Beth said.

“Why?” Will asked. “Mom said we didn’t have any plans tonight.”

“I don’t know?” Tim responded. “She just told me to come pick you up.”

“Seriously?” Will moaned, as he laid his head on the table. Matt looked at Tim.

“Can I duel Will once before he leaves then?” He asked. “We where going to just before you came.” Tim looked at Will and Matt.

“Go for it you two.” Tim responded.

Will and Matt stood up and walked to the area specially designed for duels. They both got out their duel disks, and put their decks in the slots, but before the duel could start they were cut off,

“What is this?” said a voice. A little older than Will and Matt walked up to the duel area, “A duel?”

“Yeah. Who are you?” Will said,

“Me?” the boy said, “You don’t know who I am?” Will looked at him closely, but couldn’t make out who he was,

“I know I’ve seen you before, but I can’t put my finger on it.” He said. He looked a little harder, and tried to remember. Finally it popped into his head, “You’re Brendon Roarak!”

“Correct!” Brendon replied, “The U.S. champion, and soon to be World Champion!”

“What are you doing here?” Matt asked.

“I’m here because I’ve heard of some good duelists here. Are you one of them?”

“Will is the best there is!” Matt shouted.

“Really now?” Brendon smiled an evil smile, “Let’s see how accurate that is.”

Matt tossed Brendon his duel disk, and he inserted his deck. The two looked at each other, and activated their duel disks,

“DUEL!” they shouted.

Will = 4000 LP

Brendon = 4000 LP

Will looked at Brendon, “I’ll go first. Draw!” Will drew his card, giving him a total of 6 cards in his hand. He stared at it, and grinned. “First I activate ‘Double Greed’! This’ll allow me to draw two cards, and then you get two greed tokens!” Will drew two cards, and two tokens were summoned to Brendon’s side of the field. (Greed Tokens - ATK/1700). “Next, since you have two more monsters than I do I can Special Summon my ‘Shadowmancer!’ (ATK/2200)” From the ground spawned a shadowy figure, “Then I’ll normal Summon ‘Shining Angel’ (ATK/1400)!” Brendon stared at the two monsters that were on Will’s side of the field, then at the two tokens on his side of the field,

“What an idiot.” He thought to himself. “What is he planning on doing?”

“Now I’ll set three cards, and end my turn!” Will shouted. “Let’s see what you got, Brendon.”

“I’ll show you what I’ve got! Draw!” Brendon drew his card, and laughed,

“What’s so funny?”

“The fact that this duel is over on my first turn.”

Will, and his friends looked at Brendon confused.

“First!” He shouted, “I tribute the two tokens you gave me in order to summon ‘Red Thunder Cloud’!” The ceiling of the room began to form a red storm cloud, which then slowly fell to the ground. (Red Thunder Cloud - ATK/500). Will looked at the monster confused,

“What can that thing do?”

“This is the card that’ll help me win this duel!” Brendon shouted, “Now I activate the spell card ‘Strom Cauldron’! This’ll allow me to special summon one thunder type monster from my hand, as long as I discard another!” Brendon sent ‘Thunder Dragon’ to the graveyard, “Now I’ll summon out my ‘Thunder Trooper’!” A bolt of lightning shot down from the ceiling, and from the impact came the ‘Thunder Trooper’ (ATK/1000). “Now I activate the effect of my ‘Red Thunder Cloud’!”

“What!?” Will shouted,

“By paying 1000 of my life points, I can activate a Trap Card directly from my hand, so I activate this card! The ‘Sacred Seal of Summoning’!”

Brendon = 3000 LP

A seal appeared around both of Brendon’s monsters, and they began to glow a bright white color. Suddenly, a light flashed, and they were gone. Brendon began to say, “From the skies above, the darkness is vanquished, and light overcomes all! Scion Summon! The Incredible! ‘White Lightning Dragon’!”

Suddenly, from where the two creatures were standing, a bolt of lightning shot from the ground, and began to coil in the air. From the ground up formed the great ‘White Lightning Dragon’ (ATK/3000).

“Whoa!” Everyone gasped.

“A Scion Monster!” Will shouted.

Suddenly, a bolt of lightning shot out of the dragon’s mouth and struck Will, reducing his life points by 500.

Will = 3500 LP

“What just happened!?” He said.

“The effect of my ‘Thunder Trooper’ inflicts 500 points of damage to my opponent whenever he’s sent to the graveyard by means other than battle, and the best part is after that, I get to summon another ‘Thunder Trooper’ from my deck!” Suddenly, another ‘Thunder Trooper’ fell from the sky, and landed next to the ‘White Lightning Dragon’.

“Geez!” Steven cried out. “How is Will gonna stop those things?”

“I don’t know.” Matt responded, “But it’s making me nervous.”

“Now I activate ‘White Lightning Dragon’s’ special effect!”

“What!?” everyone cried out,

“By sending 1 other monster I control to the graveyard, I can destroy all of your monsters!” Will’s eyes widened, “So say goodbye to my ‘Thunder Trooper’, and all of your monsters!” The ‘Thunder Trooper’ vanished and ‘White Lightning Dragon’ blasted all of Will’s monsters, and in addition he lost 500 life points due to ‘Thunder Trooper’s’ effect. Suddenly, another ‘Thunder Trooper’ appeared next to the dragon, again.

Will = 3000 LP

Brendon = 3000 LP

“Now it’s time to end this! ‘White Lightning Dragon’ attack!”

“Not so fast!” Will shouted, “I activate, ‘Threatening Roar’! This keeps you from attacking this turn!”

The dragon’s attack was stopped, and Brendon looked displeased.

“Okay, so you stopped me for one turn. You still can’t stop my unstoppable dragon!”

“We’ll see about that!” Will said. “Draw!” As Will looked over at the card he drew, he gave out a sigh of relief.

“What are you doing? I’ve still got the upper hand!”

“This was a close match, but I’m afraid that it ends on this turn.”

“What!?”

“I activate my first trap card ‘Call of the Haunted’! This’ll allow me to summon 1 monster in my graveyard, such as my ‘Shadowmancer’!” The ‘Shadowmancer’ returned to Will’s side of the field. (Shadowmancer - ATK/2200). “Next I’ll summon out another ‘Shining Angel’ (ATK/1400).

“Big deal! I’ve crushed those monsters once, and I’ll do it again!”

“No you won’t!” Will replied. “Because I’ve got something in store for you! I activate my second trap card ‘Sacred Seal of Summoning’!”

Everyone was shocked. “W-What!?” They all replied.

The seal appeared around both of Will’s monsters, and suddenly, like with Brendon, they shined white and vanished. After they vanished, a shining white sphere appeared above Will’s head. “From the utopia above the skies, a new justice shall wipe out all darkness! Scion Summon! The Great Lord! ‘Almighty, The Divine Emperor’!” The white sphere began to grow, and from it sprouted two white angelic wings. The room was then filled with a bright light, and when it cleared, there above Will hovered his monster. (Almighty, The Divine Emperor - ATK/2500).

“I don’t believe it! You have the legendary emperor!”

“That is right! And now I’m going to use his effect to wipe you out!” Brendon’s face widened in fear. “Almighty can negate a monster effect, and then that effect becomes his until the end phase! So go! Steal the effect of ‘White Lightning Dragon’!” A white light shot from the divine emperor and connected with the dragon.

“What’ll that do? You need a monster to sacrifice to use my dragon’s effect!” Brendon shouted.

“I know, and I have one! I now activate ‘Angelic Path’!”

“What!” Brendon shouted.

“This card will allow me to take control of one of your monsters if I control a level seven or higher fairy monster, and I have one! So go steal his ‘Thunder Trooper’!”

The monster floated over to Will’s side of the field.

“No! You can’t!” Brendon shouted. All of Will’s friends’ eyes widened with excitement.

“I just did! Now Almighty, I tribute ‘Thunder Trooper’ to activate your effect! Wipe out ‘White Lightning Dragon’!” ‘Thunder Trooper’ transformed into a ball of light, and was launched at ‘White Lightning Dragon’ knocking it down. “And thanks to your monster’s effect, you now lose 500 life points!”

Brendon = 2500 LP

“And with no spell or trap cards on the field you are wide open!”

“No! I can’t lose! No way!” Brendon shouted. Everyone watched the duel, with major excitement.

“Almighty! End this now! GO! Heaven’s Wrath!” Almighty charged up a great blast, and launched it at Brendon, knocking his life points to zero.

Will = 3000 LP

Brendon = 0 LP

Everyone cheered, and ran over to Will. Brendon fell to his knees, and all his cards fell to the ground, “Impossible. I can’t lose!” He screamed.

“It looks like you just did.” Replied Matt.

“I’m impressed!” Tim said, “You’ve grown quite a lot since our last duel.”

“Thanks big bro.” Will looked over at Brendon, “Good duel, Brendon.” Brendon looked down at his ‘White Lightning Dragon’ and picked it up.

“Will,” He said, “I’ll remember you, and next time we duel I’ll defeat you.” He held up the dragon, so that he could see it. “I’ll defeat you and your emperor with this card.” He picked up his other fallen cards, and dropped the duel disk, and left the arcade, as did everyone else.

Meanwhile, a man watched the duel via security camera, and smiled, “Perfect. Two of the six have been found. It is only a matter of time before it is all mine.”

Trap of the Star Lord!

Will and his friends walked out of the arcade. Everyone was commenting on how he beat Brendon Roarak. Matt was continually pestering him on strategies that he would’ve used, and how quickly the duel ended,

“Seriously dude! If you had my deck, you could’ve won on the first turn.”

“I doubt that dude.” Will replied.

They all headed over to Tim’s car. It was 8:00, and Will and Tim were supposed to be home half an hour ago.

“Sorry guys,” Tim said, “but we have to head out.” Everyone said there good-byes, and they all agreed to meet back at the arcade the next day, at 3 O’clock.

As Tim and Will got in the car, the others started to head out. All of them could drive except for Will. He was the youngest in the group.

“You really have grown since our last duel little bro.” Tim said. Will blushed a little. Tim was a state champion duelist, and he didn’t give compliments out everyday.

“Thanks big bro.” Will pulled out his deck, and more specifically ‘Almighty, The Divine Emperor’.

“You like that card don’t ya.” Will looked back at Tim, and nodded his head.

“He’s my favorite card.” Will responded. “I don’t know why, but whenever I can summon him it makes me feel stronger.” Will looked up at his brother who was smiling back at him.

“You have quite the connection with that card. Would you trade it for anything?”

“Of course not!” The two looked at the card, and admired it.

Tim started his car, and the engine rumbled. As Tim put his foot on the pedal, a man suddenly walked in front of the car.

“GEEZ!” Tim slammed on his brake, and the man looked up at the car. “Dude!?” Tim shouted. The man just continued to look at the car. He had pale lifeless eyes that reminded Will of a horror movie.

“Game?” the man said. Will and Tim both looked at the man with a confused face. The man held up a Duel Monsters card, but neither of them could tell what it was.

“Does he want to duel?” Will asked.

“I don’t know, but let’s find out.”

The two got out of the car, and the man’s eyes seemed to follow Will’s every step,

“Do you want to duel?” Will asked. The man just nodded his head.

“Well then why’d you walk in front of my car?” The man looked over at Tim,

“It was the only way to get your attention.” The man’s voice was raspy, and sounded old. “I want to duel the one with the divine emperor.” Will looked over at the man.

“Okay. Let me get my duel disk.”

“No need.” The man said. He held up the card and it suddenly shined a bright white color.

“What!?” Will and Tim both yelled in unison. Suddenly, all the color began to fade into a black and white area, like an old monochrome movie.

“What’s going on!?” Will looked over at Tim, and saw that he was completely frozen. He didn’t move a muscle.

“Don’t look so scared, kid.” The man said.

“Who are you?” The man looked at Will, and gave him an evil grin.

“My name is of no importance, but for the time being you can call me Star.”

“Okay Star, what do you want?” Star laughed, and held up the card again.

“I want a duel with the duelist who wields the divine emperor!” Just as he finished the sentence, black smoke formed around both of their right arms forming duel disks. “If you win you can go free, but if I win, you must stay here forever.”

“Where exactly is here?” Will asked. Star laughed, and raised his hands.

“We’re in the realm of the Devil Death Gods!”

“What? Who?” The man gave Will an evil glare.

“You’ll soon have all the time in the world to learn about this place!” Star laughed an evil cackle. Just then the duel disks activated, and Will’s deck was put into it. “DUEL!”

Star = 4000 LP

Will = 4000 LP

Star looked up at Will, “Seeing as how this is my world, I’ll go first. Draw!” He took his first card which gave him a grand total of six cards. “First, I activate the ‘Cost Down’ spell card! Now, by discarding one card in my hand, I reduce the level of all my monsters by two.” Star discarded his card, and continued on with his turn. “Now I activate the effect of the card I just discarded!”

“What?” Will looked at Star, and gripped his cards,

“You see, the card in my graveyard is a monster called ‘Star Eater’ and when he’s in my graveyard, I can remove him from play to reduce the level of all monsters in my hand by two, again!”

“So you lost a total of four levels!” Will looked at him shocked. Star just gave him an evil cackle.

“Correct! Now I summon out my all powerful ‘Star Lord’!” Just as Star put the card on his duel disk, it lit up revealing a bright white color. From the sky fell a giant ‘Star Lord’, twice the size of Will. (Star Lord - ATK/2600)

“Whoa!”

“Whoa! Is right! You’re looking at my most diabolical monster! Next, I activate the spell card ‘Falling Star’! This card allows me to send any number of cards from my deck to the graveyard as long as I have at least one Light attribute, Spellcaster type monster on the field, and it just so happens that I do!”

“So? What’ll sending your cards to the grave do?” Will looked at the man puzzled.

“I’m glad you asked. You see, for every card sent to the graveyard you take 400 points of damage!”

Will’s eyes widened, “What!?”

“Don’t seem so scared. I can only send cards equal to my ‘Star Lord’s’ level, and that is currently level four.” Star took the top four cards of his deck, and sent them to the graveyard. Just as he did, a large falling rock fell from the sky and hit Will, knocking his life points down by 1600.

Will = 2400 LP

“Damn!” Will mumbled to himself.

“Are you confused on why that felt so real?” Will looked up at the strange man, “That is because, all damage here is dealt as damage to you in the real world.”

“What? That’s impossible!” Will shouted,

“Anything’s possible in the realm of the Devil Death Gods!” Star laughed, and as he did, seven colossal shadowy figures appeared behind him. They towered over the ‘Star Lord’ which was already enormous compared to Will.

“What are those things!?” Star turned around and looked at the seven colossus,

“Those, my boy, are the Devil Death Gods.” Star looked back at Will, and snapped his fingers. As he did, the seven colossus faded from existence, “Now back on to the duel!” Will looked at Star with a scared expression, “I end my turn.” Suddenly, his graveyard shined white, and a card returned to his hand, “I guess I should’ve mentioned that during my end phase, I can add a spell card from my graveyard to my hand.” Star revealed the card. It was ‘Falling Star’.

“What!?”

“I’ll finish you next turn!”

Will looked down at his duel disk, and drew his first card, “Draw!” As Will looked at his hand, he thought of a strategy quick. He didn’t want to be anywhere near Star anymore. “First, I activate ‘Double Greed’! This’ll allow me to draw two cards, and then you get two greed tokens!” Will drew his two cards, and two tokens appeared on Star’s side of the field. (Greed Token - ATK/1700). “Now that you have three monsters, and I have none, I’ll summon my ‘Shadowmancer’!” Shadows appeared around Will’s feet and then moved to the field. From them spawned the ‘Shadowmancer’ (Shadowmancer - ATK/2200). “Next, I’ll summon my good pal ‘Shining Angel’! (ATK/1400). Now, I activate my spell card ‘Over Catastrophe’!”

“What?” Will smirked at the man,

“This card’ll destroy cards on your side of the field equal to then number of fairy monsters on my side of the field, and I have two!” Both of Will’s monsters charged a white orb of light, “GO! Destroy his ‘Star Lord’!” Both of the monsters let loose the orbs, and they both headed right for Star’s monster,

“Not so fast!” Star shouted, “By removing one spell in my graveyard, I can negate the effect of a spell card and destroy it!”

“No way!” The two orbs of light vanished a split second before they hit the ‘Star Lord’. “I guess I’ll set two cards, and end my turn.”

“Good! My move!” Star drew his card, and stared at it. “This ends now! I activate my ‘Falling Star’ once again, and this time I’ll send six cards to the grave to wipe out all of your life points!” Star sent the six cards from his deck to the graveyard, and another rock began to fall towards Will,

“I knew it! I activate ‘Rainbow Life’!”

“What!?” Will grinned at the man,

“Thanks to this card, all damage I take is negated, and instead my life points increase by that much!” The rock shattered into millions of pieces, and rained on Will giving him 2400 extra life points.

Will = 4800 LP

“Damn it!” Star yelled, “I set one card and end my turn.” Just as he did, the ‘Falling Star’ spell card returned to his hand.

“I’ll finish you before you get the chance to use that card. Good! Draw!” Will stared at his card and grinned. “Alright! Now, I activate my face-down trap card ‘Sacred Seal of Summoning’!”

“What!?” Star shouted.

“From the utopia above the skies, a new justice shall wipe out all darkness! Scion Summon! The Great Lord! ‘Almighty, The Divine Emperor’!” Just then, like with Brendon, the orb appeared above Will’s head, and spawned into Almighty.

“That damned card!” Star yelled, “I’ll destroy it!”

“No you won’t, because now I activate ‘Magical Stone Excavation’! So I can discard the last two cards in my hand to return ‘Over Catastrophe’ to my hand.”

“So what! I’ll negate it like I did last time!”

“You can think that all you want, but it won’t work! I activate my card’s power, to steal your card’s effect!”

“No!”

“That’s right! So now you can stop my attack!” Will slapped the ‘Over Catastrophe’ card down on his duel disk, and Almighty shot a great white orb, and destroyed the ‘Star Lord’, “And here’s my favorite part! When ever a monster is destroyed by ‘Over Catastrophe’ you take 1600 points of damage! 200 points for each level!”

“My monster is level eight! No!” Star’s life points depleted by 1600 knocking him down to 2400.

Star = 2400 LP

Will = 4800 LP

“Now I’ll have Almighty attack you directly!” Almighty charged up his attack, and launched it at Star. The blast hit him, and knocked the man over, knocking his Life Points to 0.

Star = 0 LP

“Now tell me why you wanted to duel me?” The man looked at Will and grinned. The grin soon turned to an evil laugh.

“I was sent here to test you.”

“What?”

“There is going to be a special tournament very soon, and you must join.”

“Why should I join this tournament!?” Will shouted at him.

“It would be in your best interest.” The man smiled, and threw Will an envelope, “If you don’t, I’ll have the Devil Death Gods devour the souls of all your friends!” The man began to laugh his evil cackle, and he soon faded away.

As he did, Tim and the rest of the world returned to normal, “What just happened?” Will looked at Tim, and held up the envelope, “What is that?”

“An invitation,” he replied. “It looks like I’m joining a tournament.”

CHAPTER 3

The Tournament Approaches!

Master Vs. Pupil!

As Will and Tim were driving home, Will was talking all about the strange man, and the duel in the realm of the Devil Death Gods, “Do you expect me to believe this?” Tim said,

“But you’ve gotta!” Will replied. He pulled out the envelope that Star gave him, and showed it to Tim, “I didn’t have this earlier today!” Tim looked at the envelope, and grabbed it with one hand, while still holding on the steering wheel with the other. He looked at it, and handed it back to Will,

“Open it.” Will did as he was told and opened the envelope. Inside, was a pure blue and a pure red duel monsters card, and a letter. “What does the letter say?” Will quickly skimmed over the letter.

“Dear Duelist, you have been invited to attend the Black Bridge Tournament. Inside this envelope is a Red and Blue card. These cards are your proof to compete in the tournament. You may choose a partner to duel along side you, and carry one of the cards. You and your partner can only duel duelists with the same color as the card you hold. The winner of the tournament gains the title, ‘Duel Monsters Grand Champion’ and $500,000. The tournament will be held, at Black River, on the 20th of May, at nine A.M. I hope to see you. Your host, Scott Bernards.”

“What?” Will yelled.

“What’s the matter?”

“Scott Bernards! He’s the one who sent that man after me!” Tim looked at will with a look of confusion,

“Why would Scott Bernards send some killer-like guy after you?”

“I don’t know, but he must have!” Tim looked back at the road. “Star cave me the envelope so he must have contacted Bernards before hand.” Will and Tim resumed there way back to their house. As they walked in the front door, it was 8:30. Soon, the two were bombarded by their mother,

“Where have you been?” She asked Will,

“I’ve been at the arcade.”

“We told you to be back at 7:30!”

“I’m sorry I got into a duel with a kid.” Their mom looked at him with a frustrated look. She was never into Duel Monsters like her kids were, but she knew that they liked the game and had nothing against them for it.

“Just don’t let it happen again, okay!” She stormed off to the kitchen where their dad was helping her wash the dishes.

Tim and Will ate what was left of dinner, and headed to their living room. They started watching T.V. until about 10 O’clock, and they both headed to bed. As Will laid in his bed he couldn’t get to sleep. He kept thinking about Star, and the Devil Death Gods. He picked up the envelope, which held the letter and the two colored cards.

“What happened today?” He mumbled to himself. “I don’t want to believe it, but that felt so real, and it all looked like real.” Will remembered Star’s words,

“Are you confused on why that felt so real? That is because, all damage here is dealt as damage to you in the real world.” Suddenly, the seven silhouettes appeared behind Will. As he turned around, he still couldn’t make it out its features, but he could tell that one had four large wings. The winged demon lunged forward to strike Will. His eyes widened, and Will jumped up out of his bed.

Will looked all around and realized that he’d fallen asleep, and was dreaming. He laid back down, and closed his eyes and fallen asleep once again. The next morning, Will woke up around 11 A.M. He got out of bed, changed his clothes and headed to the kitchen for breakfast. In the kitchen, Will made himself a bowl of Captain Crunch cereal, and as he was eating, Tim found his way to the kitchen. They both looked as if they just rumbled with four tigers at once.

“What’s up little bro?” Tim asked.

“Nothin’ much.” Will remembered the letter and the date for the tournament. “May 20th. That’s in three days!” Tim looked at Will confused, apparently he’d forgotten all about the letter from Bernards,

“What? The tournament?” Tim asked,

“Yeah!” Will looked over at Tim, “Would you be my partner for the tournament, big bro?” Tim looked at Will with a confused look,

“Why do you want me?”

“Because you are the best duelist ever! That’s why!” Tim was a state champion years ago. He gave up his title at a tournament about a year ago.

“Alright. I’ll be your partner if you can beat me in a duel.” Tim gave Will a sly smirk. Will thought about for a little while,

“Alright. Let’s duel!” Both of them walked to their room, grabbed their decks and duel disks, and returned to the kitchen.

“Are you ready to duel little bro?”

“Defiantly!” The two activated their duel disks, and inserted their decks,

“DUEL!”

Will = 4000 LP

Tim = 4000 LP

“If you don’t mind, big bro, I’ll go first.”

“Be my guest.”

“Alright! Draw!” Will drew his card, and stared at all of them. He knew that beating Tim would be no easy accomplishment. “Alright bro, I summon out ‘Majestic Mech - Ohka’!” A red flash filled the room, and the monster appeared before both of them. (Majestic Mech - Ohka - ATK/2400) “Next, I’ll set two face-down cards, and end my turn!” Suddenly, ‘Majestic Mech - Ohka’ vanished,

“Did you forget about your own monster’s effect? It’s destroyed during the end phase in which you summon it without a sacrifice.”

“I know! Next I activate the quick-play spell ‘Fairy Revival Spell’! This’ll allow me to special summon any fairy monster from my graveyard! So return to me ‘Majestic Mech - Ohka’!” Will’s monster returned to the field.

“Not bad,” replied Tim, “To bad it’s not gonna be good enough to stop me! Draw!” Tim drew his card, and smiled. “First, I activate the spell card ‘Primordial Rampage’! This allows me to return all cards in my hand to the graveyard, then I get to draw the same number of cards that I discarded!” Tim discarded five cards, and redrew five. “Next, I get to special summon all the primordial monsters I just drew, and I have three now!”

“What!?”

“That’s right! Now come on out ‘Primordial Raptor’, ‘Primordial Brachion’, and ‘Primordial Triceratops’!” Three prehistoric monsters were summoned to Tim’s side of the field. (Primordial Raptor - ATK/1500)(Primordial Brachion - ATK/1200)(Primordial Triceratops - ATK/2600)

“No way! Three powerful monsters on the first turn!?” Will shouted.

“That is right. Now I activate the effect of my Brachion! By tributing him, I can destroy all of your spell and trap cards!” ‘Primordial Brachion’ lunged forward, and devoured both of Will’s trap cards: ‘Call of the Haunted’ and ‘Sacred Seal of Summoning’.

“NO!” Just after the monster devoured the second trap card, it blew up and inflicted 1000 points of damage to Tim,

Tim = 3000 LP

“That is the downside to my monster’s effect. I take 500 points of damage for every spell and trap card destroyed.” Will looked at his brother with an angry look. “Don’t be so mad. Next, I’ll have ‘Primordial Triceratops’ attack your Ohka!” ‘Primordial Triceratops’ lunged forward with his mighty horns, and destroyed ‘Majestic Mech - Ohka’.

Will = 3800 LP

“But I’m not done little bro! ‘Primordial Raptor’ attack him directly!” The raptor lunged forward and chomped on Will, reducing his life points even further.

Will = 2300 LP

“Damn!” Will mumbled.

“This was a little to easy bro. I now activate ‘Primordial Triceratops’ effect!”

“What!?” Will looked at his brother in shock,

“Don’t tell me you’ve forgotten. By tributing another Primordial monster, my triceratops can attack again!” Just then, ‘Primordial Raptor’ flashed away, and ‘Primordial Triceratops’ was lunging directly at Will. The monster rammed into him, knocking him down, and reducing his life points to 0.

Tim = 3000 LP

Will = 0 LP

“Damn, big bro,” Will mumbled, “another one turn kill!” Tim walked over to his little brother, and helped him up,

“Looks like I’m not your partner.” With such a quick victory, Will wished that Tim would reconsider and be his partner, but he never did things the easy way.

As they looked at the clock, they realized that it was noon. Will was supposed to meet everyone at the arcade in three hours, so he didn’t know what to do for the remaining time. He looked up at his brother with a face that said, “Do you want to have a rematch?” but Tim looked back at him with a face that said, “No!”

Will and Tim began to watch T.V. and before they knew it, it was 2:30,

“You need a ride?” Tim asked,

“Yup.”

“Alright then,” Tim replied. “Let’s get going.” As the two made their way to the arcade, Tim was lecturing Will on better strategies on how he could beat his opponents, but he wasn’t paying any attention. He was to busy thinking about the tournament, and about Star. He’d just disappeared, and Will couldn’t think of any explanation other than these Devil Death Gods being real.

Finally, they made it to the arcade, and on their way in they met with Matt.

“Hey guys.” He said,

“Hi Matt,” Will responded. Will looked at Matt, and then noticed he had his deck and his duel disk with him. He thought about it for a while, but he finally asked him, “Hey Matt? Do you want to be my dueling partner for an upcoming tournament?” Matt looked at him speechless,

“For what tournament?” he asked. Will pulled out the envelope, and gave it to Matt, who pulled out the letter and read it,

“What!? Scott Bernards is holding a tournament!” he shouted.

“Yup,” Will replied. “I don’t all the rules, but it is in three days, so if you’re going to be my partner we have to get practicing.”

The three walked into the arcade and met with the others.

“What is up!?” Asked Steven,

“What is up not using contractions?” Tim replied.

They all sat down, and started talking. Finally, Matt let the cat out of the bag, and told the others about the tournament.

“That is awesome! A personal invite from Scott Bernards!?” Beth shouted.

“I know! I was pretty surprised too.” Will responded. Will didn’t want to tell them about Star, or the Devil Death Gods. He himself didn’t want to believe it, and he didn’t want his friends to think he was crazy.

After a while, Will decided to forget about it, and decided to duel some of his friends, while testing out Matt’s abilities. Matt wasn’t the best duelist around, but Tim said he had potential, and after dueling Tim, Will thought it was in his best interest to take his word.

Suddenly, Will felt a strong presence coming from Matt,

“Hey Matt!” He called, “Come here for a second.” Matt walked over to him like he was told,

“Yeah?”

“Can I see your deck?” Will asked,

“Sure.” Matt handed over his deck, and Will looked through it. He flipped through about six cards before he saw something that interested him. A ‘Sacred Seal of Summoning’.

“Whoa!” He gasped,

“What?” Matt looked at the card. “I know! That’s what I said when I found that card, but let me show you why I put that in my deck.” Matt reached in his pocket, and pulled out a card. It was a Scion monster, a very rare one. Will looked at it in awe. The card was ‘Black Fire Dragon’.

“Where did you get this, and more importantly, why haven’t you used it!?” Matt looked away, like he was ashamed. He took the card, and put it back in his pocket,

“I want to earn my right to play that card, like the way you play ‘Almighty, The Divine Emperor’. I want to win a duel against a strong opponent, without having to use that card.” Will looked at his friend, and gave him back his deck.

“I think I made the right choice for my partner.”
CHAPTER 4

The Day Before!

Rise, Black Fire Dragon!

It’s been two days since Will dueled the strange man, and the last day before the Black Bridge Tournament hosted by Scott Bernards. Will was sitting at home thinking, and he wasn’t to excited about the tournament, because he didn’t know what to expect. Not for him, but for Matt. Matt was his best friend, and he knew he was good, but he knew he wasn’t great either. Matt practiced and practiced, but he never once used his powerful ‘Black Fire Dragon’. Will constantly remembered what Matt said about it,

“I want to earn my right to play that card, like the way you play ‘Almighty, The Divine Emperor’. I want to win a duel against a strong opponent, without having to use that card.”

Will looked up at the ceiling and mumbled to himself, “Why doesn’t he just use it? When I first used Almighty, it was when I was in a tough bind, and BAM! He was out on the field.” Will looked back down at his deck, and pulled out ‘Almighty, The Divine Emperor’. Just then, Will’s cell phone rang. He pulled it out and it was Matt, “Hello.”

“Hey dude!”

“Hey Matt, what’s up?”

“I just wanted to know if I could come over. I know you want to win that tournament, and so do I. You’re good enough to win it all by yourself, but I’m not.”

“I’m not that good.”

“Don’t be stupid! You’re the best duelist I know. You could beat anyone.” just then, Will thought back to his duel with Tim. “Unfortunately I’m not that good. So I was wondering if we could duel?”

“Sure thing. Just head over here whenever.”

“Alright. Be there in a little bit.” Matt hung up the phone, as did Will. Will got up to get some food, so he headed to his kitchen. In the kitchen he met up with Tim, who was eating a bowl of cereal, even though it was about six O’ Clock P.M.

“What’re you up too?” Tim asked,

“Nothing. Just gettin’ some food. What about you?”

“Same thing as you.” Will got out a pop-tart, and put in the toaster. Will looked over at Tim, “Hey bro?” Tim looked up, “Do you think Matt’s a good duelist?”

“On a scale of one to ten, I’d give him a six. Why?” Tim went back to eating his cereal,

“I don’t know.” There was a silence that lasted for a little while, but finally Tim broke the silence.

“I think he’ll get better. I think by the end of the tournament he’ll be a seven.” Will looked at his brother confused,

“What rank would you give me?” Tim looked at Will, and thought for a little while,

“An eight out of ten.”

“Really?”

“Yeah. You’re good, but you don’t know all of your deck’s kicks yet. You can’t try and rush something that takes a long duration of time. It’ll just nail you in the butt later. That is why Brendon Roarak is the U.S. champion.”

Will completely forgot about him and Brendon’s duel. Suddenly, he began to have a flashback of the ‘White Lightning Dragon’ striking down his monsters, and almost finishing him off.

After a while, Will’s pop-tart shot out of the toaster and Will grabbed it. After his first bite, the doorbell rang,

“Who’s that?” Tim asked,

“Matt,” Will responded. “We’re gonna practice a bit before the tournament starts.”

“That’s probably the best thing you two can do.” Tim finished off his cereal, and put his bowl in the sink. Will walked to the front door, and there stood Matt.

“Hey Matt.”

“Hey Will.”

Matt walked in, and left his shoes by the door. “So do you just want to practice for tomorrow?” Will asked.

Matt took out his dueling deck, and showed it to Will, “Duh!” Will smirked at Matt, and pulled out his own deck.

“Alright! Let’s go!”

Matt and Will both got out their duel disks, and walked out to Will’s back yard. The two walked to the opposite sides of the yard.

“You wanna go first?” Will asked.

“Nope. You go.” Will looked at Matt,

“Alright then. Let’s go!”

They both shouted “DUEL!”

Will = 4000 LP

Matt = 4000 LP

Will drew his first card, “Alright Matt, I hope you’re prepared!” Will skimmed over his hand, and wasn’t very happy. “Alright, I summon out ‘Shining Angel’ (ATK/1400)! Then I’ll set two cards face down and end my turn.”

“Come on! Is that it?” Matt sneered. “Oh well, Draw!” Matt smiled at his hand, something that Will wanted to see. “Okay! I summon out my ‘Masked Dragon’!” A pillar of fire shot from the ground, and from it came the ‘Masked Dragon’. (Masked Dragon - ATK/1400)

Will looked at Matt funny, “Hate to break it to ya, but our monsters have the same power.”

“I know, but not for long. I have ‘Masked Dragon’ attack your angel!” ‘Masked Dragon’ launched out a great fire ball directly at ‘Shining Angel’, but it shot a ball of light right back. “Now before I forget, I activate ‘Rush Recklessly’!”

“What!?” Will said shocked,

“This card will boost my dragon’s strength by 700!” Just then, ‘Masked Dragon’s’ ATK raised to 2100. “Now take out his angel!”

“Not so fast! I activate ‘Threatening Roar’! This’ll stop your attack before it hits my monster!” Just then ‘Masked Dragon’s’ attack was stopped.

“Damn! I thought I had you.” Matt looked at his hand, and then back at Will, “I set two cards and end my turn.”

“Alright then. My turn, Draw!” Will drew his card which gave him four cards. “To help out my hand, I’ll activate my ‘Double Greed’ spell! This’ll give you two ‘Greed Tokens’ but I get to draw two cards.” Two tokens appeared on Matt’s side of the field. (Greed Token - ATK/1700) Will then drew his two cards. “Next off, I special summon my ‘Shadowmancer’ since you have two more monsters than I do!” Will placed the card on the duel disk, and then the ‘Shadowmancer’ appeared. (Shadowmancer - ATK/2200) “Next, I’ll activate my facedown card ‘Sacred Seal of Summoning’!”

“I totally saw this coming.”

“Then you’ll know what happens next! From the utopia above the skies, a new justice shall wipe out all darkness! Scion Summon! The Great Lord! ‘Almighty, The Divine Emperor’!” Just then, a flash of light fell from the sky, and blinded both, Matt and Will. When the light cleared before them stood ‘Almighty, The Divine Emperor’.

“Dang! Like always you summoned him out in a heart beat.”

“Brace yourself Matt, because here comes my monster’s special ability! I now steal the effect of your ‘Masked Dragon’! Now after my monster destroys it you don’t get to summon a new monster!” Almighty launched a white orb directly at ‘Masked Dragon’.

“No!” cried Matt,

“Oh yes! Almighty, attack!” Almighty then shot another white orb at masked dragon.

“If only it was that easy,” Matt mumbled. “I activate ‘Magic Cylinder’!”

“What!?”

“Now your attack is negated, and you take damage equal to your monster’s attack! And that is 2500!” Two large tubes appeared before ‘Masked Dragon’. Almighty’s attack was launched into one of the tubes, and then out the second one, launching it right at Will.

Will = 1500 LP

“Damn! Half of my life points were just wiped out!” Will looked at his cards, and looked worried. “I set one card, and that’ll be it.”

“Are you impressed or what?”

“I am. Your deck is so much different from our last duel.”

Matt smiled as if honored, “Thanks! When you told me I was going to be your partner, I didn’t want to let you down, so I got out all of my cards, and made the best possible deck I could.”

“Wow,” Will thought to himself. “He’s gotten really good. If I would’ve known he would’ve done something like this I would’ve prepared more.”

“Alright Will, my turn. Draw!” Matt smiled. “Oh man! This is too good! I got you right where I want you!”

“What?” Will looked at Matt surprised.

“I hate to break it to you, but this duel ends now! First, I tribute ‘Masked Dragon’ so I can summon out a much more powerful dragon. Come forth ‘Chthonian Emperor Dragon’!” Suddenly, much like with ‘Masked Dragon’ a pillar of fire launched from the ground, and from it appeared the massive ‘Chthonian Emperor Dragon’. (Chthonian Emperor Dragon - ATK/2400)

“Whoa!” Will shouted.

“Whoa is right! Now my dragon attack!”

“Wait! Your monster has lower attack power!” Will questioned.

“No he doesn’t, because I activate ‘Shrink’! This’ll cut your emperor’s strength in half!”

Suddenly ‘Almighty, the Divine Emperor’s’ ATK was reduced to 1250.

“No way!”

“Yes way! ‘Chthonian Emperor Dragon’ end this!” ‘Chthonian Emperor Dragon’s’ launched a great fire ball at Almighty, and destroyed him, and reduced Will’s Life Points to 350.

Will = 350 LP

Matt = 4000 LP

“Huh? I guess my math was off. I thought you’d be wiped of life points. Well I guess I’ll set two cards and end my turn.” Matt had no cards left in his hand.

“If that’s it then here I come! Draw!” Will drew his card, and he sighed with relief. “Alright, I activate the spell card ‘Scion Legacy’! This’ll allow me to remove one ‘Sacred Seal of Summoning’ in my graveyard from play to special summon one of my fallen Scion monsters!”

“What!?” Matt shouted. Will removed his ‘Sacred Seal of Summoning’ from play, and ‘Almighty, the Divine Emperor’ returned to the field. “Damn! I thought I finally got rid of him!”

“Nope. Now I’ll have him attack your ‘Chthonian Emperor Dragon’!” Almighty launched a powerful attack, and destroyed Matt’s monster.

Matt = 3900 LP

“Alright I’ll end my turn with that.” Matt stared at his duel disk before he drew his card,

“Please,” he thought to himself. “Draw something good!” He drew his card, and as he looked at it he smiled. “Alright! Here it is! I activate ‘Blaze Mode’! This’ll allow me to special summon one fire attribute monster in my graveyard, so say hello again to my ‘Chthonian Emperor Dragon’!”

“No!”

“Now I’m not done, because I activate my face-down ‘Call of the Haunted’ to bring back my ‘Masked Dragon’!” Both of Matt’s fallen monsters returned to the field. “But I’m not done! It may be against what I wanted to do, but it seems like the only way!” Will looked at him confused. “I activate the ‘Sacred Seal of Summoning’! I now offer my two dragons to summon my greatest monster!” Will’s expression changed to shock, and happiness all at the same time. “The fires of destruction burn through the souls of the wicked! Scion Summon! My Strength! ‘Black Fire Dragon’!” The two dragons transformed into two balls of flame and then merged together. The fire began to take shape into the great ‘Black Fire Dragon’. (Black Fire Dragon - ATK/2400)

“Good job.” Will thought to himself.

“Alright, now I activate my dragon’s special power! He can absorb half the attack power of one of your monsters!” ‘Black Fire Dragon’s’ ATK changed from 2400 to 3650. “Now let’s end this ‘Black Fire Dragon’! Go!” ‘Black Fire Dragon’ charged up and launched it at ‘Almighty, the Divine Emperor’.

“I did it!” Matt thought to himself,

“It was a good duel Matt, but I’m afraid this was your last turn! I activate my ‘Negate Attack’!”

“What!?”

“This not only stops your attack, but ends your Battle Phase, and with no cards in your hand it ends your turn as well!” Matt was speechless.

“My turn! Draw!” Will looked at Matt and smiled, “It was a good duel, but this ends now! I activate ‘Over Catastrophe’! This’ll destroy your dragon and inflict 1400 points of damage to your life points!”

“No way!” ‘Black Fire Dragon’ exploded into a flash of white light, and Matt’s life points were reduced by 1400.

Matt = 2500

“Now Almighty! Finish this!” Almighty launched a great ball of light at Matt and reduced his life points to 0. Matt fell to his knees disappointed.

“I lost. Even with my dragon, I lost!”

“Don’t worry about it,” Will walked over to Matt and offered him his hand. “You dueled better than anyone I know, and you are worthy enough to use that card.” Matt smiled, and took Will’s hand. “We’ll win that tournament tomorrow. I know that for a fact.”
CHAPTER 5

The Day of!

The Evil Chimera Mecha

The day of the tournament finally arrived, and it wasn’t a day Will was looking forward too. Matt decided to stay at Will’s house for the night so they could practice. Will woke up at seven in the morning since the tournament was at nine. Will got his deck and looked at it. He constantly thought about Star, and the seven colossal figures that stood behind him.

“What’ll happen tonight?” Will mumbled to himself. Matt began to wake up, and sat up,

“What’d you say?” Will looked over at Matt,

“Nothin’.” The two got up and cleaned themselves up.

The two walked out to the kitchen, and saw Tim eating his bowl of cereal, his hair a mess,

“Hey you two,” He said.

“Morning Tim.” Will walked to their fridge, grabbed the milk, and made himself a bowl of cereal, like his brother. Matt instead grabbed a pop-tart and put it in the toaster.

“You two looking forward to the tournament?” Tim asked. Will looked at Matt, and Matt looked at Will and smiled at him.

“Defiantly,” Matt responded. “I know we’ll win.”

“Well, actually, only one of you’ll win.” Both of them looked at Tim like he was crazy. “I found another piece of paper in the envelope Bernards gave you, and it discussed the rules of the tournament.” Will and Matt sat down at the table, across from Tim. “The rules say that the tournament is not a tag duel tournament. A duelist us allowed to choose another duelist to duel with you. The tournament will be broken into two sections. The blue section, and the red section. Inside this envelope you will find a blue card, and a red card. Each duelist needs one of the cards to compete, and is only aloud to duel another with the same color. After a duelist acquires 10 color cards of the same color, they automatically proceed to the finals. If a duelist has more than 10 cards they must return the cards to the duelist they defeated. There will be four finalists in the semi-finals. I hope these rules clear your thoughts on the tournament.”

Tim put down the letter and looked at the boys. Matt’s pop-tarts shot out of the toaster, and he grabbed them. Will began to eat his cereal, “That clears some things up.” he said in between bites.

The three finally began to head out to the Black River at around 8:25 A.M. They came to the Black River Harbor. The Black River was a wide 40 mile river, and a major attraction in Columndale. There was a large tour ship on the river, with approximately 20 duelists getting on, along with other by standers. Will, Matt, and Tim all looked and were wowed by it. The three got out of Tim’s car, and they walked to the boat. They were then stopped by a big man wearing a black t-shirt, and sun glasses, like the typical body guard,

“If you want on you’ll have to pay ten dollars. Only duelists get on for free.” Will and Matt pulled out their color cards, “Oh you are duelists?” He looked over at Tim, “What about you?” Tim pulled out two, five dollar bills and handed them to the man. “Thank you.” The man stood to the side, and the three walked onto the boat.

The boat was filled with people, but there was enough room to walk around. The boat also had a second story. It was mainly for ship maintenance, but it had a balcony for announcements. Will and Matt looked around, and eventually separated. They looked at the duelists, and some of them looked professional, but others looked like little kids. After a while a duelist accidentally bumped into Will,

“Sorry about that.” He said,

“No problem.” The duelist looked at Will, and looked shocked.

“No way!” He said. “You’re Will Axels! The duelist who beat Brendon Roarak!” Will looked at him shocked,

“How do you know about that!” The duelist looked at Will with a sly look,

“I’m a pro duelist. Whenever something big happens, I know about it, and when I heard that the U.S. champion was beaten I almost crapped my pants.” The duelist held out his hand, “I’m Nate Aldrich, one of the U.S. regional champions.” Will grabbed Nate’s hand and shook it,

“Pleased to meet you Nate. I’d introduce myself, but you already know who I am.” Nate laughed,

“I just know that you beat Brendon Roarak. But, I do hear you have an extremely rare card in your deck. The legendary divine emperor.” Will nodded his head. “Do you mind if I look at it?” Nate asked.

Will was hesitant at this point, “Sorry Nate, but I don’t usually let people see my divine emperor. It’s just a personal thing.” Nate nodded his head,

“I understand. I have the same feeling with one of my cards.” Nate pulled out his deck, and looked at it. “A duelist always has a special connection to his cards if he shows them respect. They never let him down.” Will began to smile a little. He soon pulled out his deck, and revealed ‘Almighty, The Divine Emperor’.

“You seem like a good guy. Here you go.” Will handed over the card, and Nate took it,

“This is cool. The ace card of the only duelist ever to beat Brendon Roarak.” Nate looked up at Will, “Why don’t you say we duel once the tournament starts?” Will began to blush,

“No way. I’m not good enough to beat you.”

“Well than that’s just to bad.” Nate pulled out a lighter, and ignited it. He then moved the flame closer to the card,

“WHOA!” Will shouted. He reached for the card, but Nate moved out of the way. “Give me back my card!”

“Only if you duel me,” Nate smirked. “If you win I’ll give you your precious card back, but if you lose, I torch the card!” Nate began to walk to the edge of the boat. “I’m a red duelist, so make sure you have that red card Bernards gave you.” Nate put out the flame, and snuck away into a crowd of people.

“That bastard!” Will shouted. Will pulled out his color card and to his relief it was a red card.

A horn blew, and the boat began to move. As it did, the door on the second story balcony opened, and out walked Scott Bernards.

“Greeting duelists!” he shouted. “I’m pleased to have all of you attend this tournament. Some of you may be wondering why it was held in such a small town, and not some large city like New York or Los Angelus, but I can assure you it is all for the reason of this tournament’s namesake,” The crowd began to get quiet. “The Black Bridge is an unappreciated historical land mark from back in the gold rush. Outlaws would battle here in order to win high amounts of money, so rumors say that the spirits of those fallen outlaws may still lay there.” The crowd began to get restless, and finally a voice broke through,

“Who cares about the history lesson, get on with the tournament!” The crowd began to shout, and lose control.

“Calm down!” Bernards shouted. “I’m assuming you all read the rules that came with your envelope, and if you didn’t than tough luck! I’m not repeating them. Now let me get on to something more exiting. The prizes of this tournament.” The crowd began to cheer, but Bernards kept talking, “The prize for second place is $1,00. The prize for first place is $500,000 and the title of ‘Duel Monsters Grand Champion’!” The crowd then gave out more cheers of rejoice, but they were cut off by Bernards once again, “But who said it ended there? There is a chance for a grand prize!” The crowd got quiet. “The winner of the tournament will get the chance to duel me, and if you win you get to create one original duel monsters card!” That made the crowd freak. “Calm down!” Bernards shouted, “I hope this’ll encourage you to win, now let the tournament begin!” The crowd shouted and scattered.

Bernards walked back into the room he came out of, and the lights were off. He flicked the lights on, and in the middle of the room was a long rectangular table, and at the end of the table was Brendon Roarak. Bernards looked at him with a sly look, “Glad you could join me, Mr. Roarak.”

“Shut up!” Brendon shouted. “How could you announce to the entire world that I lost a duel to some nobody!” Bernards laughed,

“Because you are a wonderful publicity stunt.” Brendon jumped up, and clenched his fists.

“What did you call me!”

“Shut your trap, boy! If you want to regain your title so bad, you need to do one simple thing for me.”

Meanwhile, Matt, Will and Tim rejoined with each other. “So who are you guys gonna duel first?” Tim asked. Will was quiet.

“I don’t know,” Matt replied, “but I wanna duel someone strong.” Will walked away, and looked around, “Where are you going?” Matt asked.

“I need to find somebody.” Will ran away, and looked all around.

“What’s up with him?” Tim asked,

“I don’t know?”

Will searched everywhere he could think, and finally saw Nate out of the corner of his eye. He was standing next to an open door, which he then slid into. Will bolted after him, and entered the same room as Nate.

The door led to a small flight of stairs, which Will ran down. The stairs led to another door, which Will threw open, and ran into recklessly. Behind the door was the boiler room, filled with pipes, and a large burner in the back, and there standing in front of the burner was Nate,

“You!” Will shouted, “Give me back my card!”

Nate smiled and tossed ‘Almighty, The Divine Emperor’ back to Will, “If we duel, I want to destroy that card.” Nate activated his duel disk, “Now let’s get this thing started!” Will activated his duel disk as well,

“Alright then! Let’s go!”

“DUEL!”

Nate = 4000 LP

Will = 4000 LP

Nate looked at Will, “I’ll go first if you don’t mind! Draw!” Nate drew his cards, and laughed, “First, I summon out my ‘Robotic Claw’!” Just then, a metallic claw grew from the ground. (Robotic Claw - ATK/1000). “And I’m not done, because when I summon ‘Robotic Claw’ I get to summon two other claws from my deck!” Just then two more ‘Robotic Claws’ spawned from the ground like the first.

“Whoa.” Will stared at the two monsters.

“But like I said earlier,” Nate continued, “I’m not done. I now tribute my three claws to summon out my strongest monster! Come forth ‘Chimera Mecha’!” Suddenly, the three claws began to merge together and form a giant, three-headed monsters. (Chimera Mecha - ATK/3000)

“What is that thing!?” Will shouted.

“This is my unstoppable monster! Thanks to my ‘Chimera Mecha’ you can’t activate any face-down spell or trap cards!”

“What!?”

“And thanks to that, you can’t summon your greatest monster!” Will stared at the monster in awe. “I’ve got you at a stalemate, and the duel has barely begun!” Nate began to laugh a sinister laugh, as Will stared at the giant monster in awe.

I like it! It was creepy that you used an old man with vampire skin and lifeless eyes to duel Will, though.

*Now PMing answer to question*

EDIT: BTW, I have a Power Rangers fic I want you to read. I barely have any comments on it. It's called Power Rangers: Armitron(Based off the brand of the watch I got on Christmas Vacation)
CHAPTER 6

Battle of the Chimera Mecha

Will and Nate were staring each other down. Will stared at the ‘Chimera Mecha’ on Nate’s side of the field, and Nate looked at Will’s open field. (Chimera Mecha - ATK/3000)

Will = 4000 LP

Nate = 4000 LP

“Alright Will, you can go now.”

Will looked at the giant monster in front of him, “Alright, Draw!” Will looked at his hand, and didn’t look to pleased. “I set one monster, and place one card face down.”

“That’s it!?” Nate mocked, “How pathetic is that!” Nate began to laugh, and drew his card. “I wanted more of a challenge from you!” Will stared at Nate with an angry face, and Nate looked at Will amused. “I activate the spell card ‘Mechanica Shift’!”

“What!?” Nate snickered at Will,

“Here is how this card works: I change the battle position of all your monsters to attack mode. Then as long as I control a machine you can’t change them back to defense mode or set any monsters!”

“No way!”

“Yes way!” Will’s face-down monster was changed to attack position. The monster was revealed to be ‘Command Angel’ (ATK/1200). “HA! That monster’s power is nothing! Destroy it ‘Chimera Mecha’!” Suddenly, ‘Command Angel’s’ ATK increased by 400 (ATK/1600). ‘Chimera Mecha’ launched a red blast out of it’s three different mouths and pulverized the ‘Command Angel’.

Will = 2600

“Wait! Why’d your monster’s attack increase?” Nate asked.

“My ‘Command Angel increases the attack power of all fairies on the field by 400, so that means he got it too!” Nate smirked at Will,

“It doesn’t matter. You’re still defenseless, and you placed a card face down. My monster negates you from activating face downs, remember?” Nate laughed at Will,

“No I didn’t forget about it. I needed it face-down so I can destroy it!” Nate looked at Will confused,

“What are you talking about?”

“You’ll see. My turn, draw!” Will drew his card and smiled. “I now activate ‘Heavy Storm’ destroying all of our spell and trap cards!”

“What!?” A large gust of wind whirled around the room, destroying Will’s face down card, and Nate’s ‘Mechanica shift’, “And now the card that I destroyed activates!”

“What?”

“The card I destroyed was my ‘Destructive Price’ trap card. Whenever it is destroyed, I get to draw one card, but I have to send one monster from my deck or extra deck to the graveyard.”

Nate laughed at Will, “You call that a move!? I was expecting you to destroy my ‘Chimera Mecha’!” Will laughed back at Nate, “What is so funny!?”

“The card I sent to the graveyard was my ultimate monster, and now thanks to the card I just drew, I’ll be able to bring him back!”

Nate was speechless, “What did you draw!?”

“You‘ll have to wait and see! First, I activate ‘Double Greed’ allowing me to draw two cards, and give you two ‘Greed Tokens’.” Will drew his two cards and two ‘Greed Tokens’ appeared on Nate’s side of the field. “But I’m not done, because I activate ‘Magical Stone Excavation’ allowing me to discard two cards and add one spell card from my graveyard to my hand, like ‘Double Greed’, and I’ll activate it again!” Will drew two cards again, and gave Nate two more ‘Greed Tokens’. (Greed Tokens - ATK/1700 x4)

“Why are you helping me?” Nate asked,

“Helping you? No, I’m helping out my two ‘Shadowmancers’!” Just then, two cloaked monsters appeared on Will’s side of the field. (Shadowmancers - ATK/2200 x2)

“So you have two mediocre monsters. What’ll that do?” Will smirked at Nate,

“You’ll see. I now activate ‘Scion Legacy’!”

“W-What!?” Nate shouted,

“Now by removing the ‘Sacred Seal of Summoning’ in my graveyard from play, I can summon my divine emperor!”

“But you don’t have a ‘Sacred Seal of Summoning’ in your grave-” Suddenly, Nate remembered Will’s move,

“I activate ‘Magical Stone Excavation’ allowing me to discard two cards and add one spell card from my graveyard to my hand.”

“No!” Nate shouted,

“Yes! Now I can summon out my strongest monster!” Will removed ‘Sacred Seal of Summoning’ from his graveyard, and looked at Nate, who was speechless. “From the utopia above the skies, a new justice shall wipe out all darkness! Scion Summon! The Great Lord! ‘Almighty, The Divine Emperor’!”

The boiler from behind Nate exploded with fire, and from it shot a white orb of light. The orb made its way to above Will’s head, and slowly morphed into ‘Almighty, The Divine Emperor’ (ATK/2500). Nate’s mouth was agape. He was staring down three of Will’s strongest monsters, and he had four useless tokens. He wasn’t to disappointed though. He still had his ‘Chimera Mecha’ and even though Almighty was powerful it wasn’t powerful enough to defeat his monster.

“It ends right now, Nate!” Will shouted,

“What are you talking about?” Will looked at him and smiled,

“I have two cards left in my hand, and I need just one to finish you off.” Nate looked at Will, both scared and confused,

“What are you going to do?”

“Finish this duel! I activate my ‘Over Catastrophe’ spell card!”

“What!?” Three white glowing orbs appeared over each of Will’s monsters,

“This card allows me to destroy cards on your side of the field equal to the number of fairies I control, and I control three!”

“No way!”

“I’ll use my spell to destroy two of your ‘Greed Tokens’ and your ultimate ‘Chimera Mecha’!” Nate stood silent, “I’ll show you to disgrace my ace monster!“ The orbs all launched at Nate’s monsters and blew them away.

“No! No! NO!” Nate cried. The ‘Chimera Mecha’ began to fall apart, and crumbled to the ground in front of Nate, “This is impossible! My greatest monster!”

“Your torment has just begun. When my ‘Over Catastrophe’ spell destroys monsters, you take damage equal to the destroyed monsters’ levels times 200!”

“Wait! All together the total of the destroyed monsters are-”

“Sixteen! And sixteen times 200 is 3200!”

Nate’s life points suddenly shot down from 4000 to 800.

Nate = 800 LP

Will = 2600 LP

“And now, with no face down cards, you have nothing to defend you from my monsters’ attacks!”

“No way!” Nate shouted,

“Oh yes! Now end this Almighty, Heaven’s crash!” ‘Almighty, the Divine Emperor’ charged a white orb of light in his hand, and launched it at one of Nate’s ‘Greed Tokens’ reducing Nate’s life points to zero.

Nate = 0 LP

Nate fell to the ground, shocked, “I don’t believe it. I had it planned out so you couldn’t summon that monster, and my monster could tear through you.” Will walked over to Nate,

“Why did you want to duel me so bad? You took my favorite card and threatened to destroy it just so I could duel you. Why?”

Nate looked up at Will with hate in his eyes, “Because you’re a nobody. No one knows who you are, and you defeated a great duelist like Brendon Roarak. Your reputation spread through the dueling world faster than anyone I’ve ever heard of, and in four days you’ve already became one of Scott Bernards favored duelists. I worked hard to get where I am now, and you just fly by and defeat the U.S. champion, and now you’re the idol of the dueling world. I knew that if I could beat you I’d become either the most famed duelist in the U.S. or the biggest pansy in the world for beating a nobody.”

Will didn’t seem to care that much for Nate’s reason for dueling, “You dueled me out of jealousy and hatred? That’s a sad reason to duel. I understand your desire to be a strong duelist, but you could have asked me to duel you, and I would have, but threatening to destroy my favorite card, and forcing me to duel you makes you a weak duelist. Now hand over your color card!” Nate bolted up, and stared at Will,

“Who are you calling a weak duelist! I am a regional champion! I am one of the top duelists in the country!”

“Apparently you are if I can beat you, and you rely on poor tactics to beat me.” Nate finally snapped. He charged at Will, who dodged the attack and pinned Nate against the ground, “Now hand over your color card!” Will let Nate up, who looked at him with a look of hate. He pulled his color card out of his pocket and gave it to Will,

“This isn’t the last time we’ll duel. I swear that we’ll duel again in the future.”

Nate trudged off back to the main floor. Will stayed in the boiler room, and looked at the boiler. Suddenly, the fire began to form into the face of Star from a few nights ago.

“Whoa!” Will jumped back as the flames began to move towards him and formed the entire body of the man. Will was frozen as the fiery body of the man walked towards him,

“There is a special rule I forgot to tell you,” It said. “Every time you lose a duel, the devil death gods are going to devour the souls of one of your friends.”

Will stared at the fiery body confused, “What!?” The body began to laugh and blew away into nothingness. As it did, Will bolted away back to the main floor.

Will ran out the door back up to the main floor. As he did he bumped into a girl, “Hey watch it!” the girl shouted.

“Sorry,” Will mumbled. “Something freaked me out down there.” The girl looked at him confused,

“Why were you down there in the first place?” She asked

“I was dueling.”

“Who’d want to duel down there?”

“Nate Aldrich. He wanted to duel me, but I’m not sure why he wanted to duel in the boiler room.”

“You dueled Nate Aldrich!?” She asked. “How badly did he beat you?”

“Beat me? Ha! I demolished him.” The girl looked at Will in disbelief,

“No way. You beat Nate Aldrich!” Will looked at the girl with a grin,

“Sure did. I’m Will Axels pleased to meet you.” Will held out his hand, but the girl was speechless,

“Y-You are the great Will Axels!?” Once again Will was surprised about how so many people knew who he was.

“You know about me too?”

“Who doesn’t know about you! You’ve been ranked Bernards’ number one duelist in the U.S.!” Will was shocked,

“Wow!” He was shocked. He was so used to being just an average everyday duelist, he wasn’t used to the fact that he beat the U.S. champion, and one of the U.S. Regional champions. “Thanks a lot for thinking I’m such a good duelist, but if you don’t mind me asking who are you?” The girl looked at Will amused,

“I’m Isabel Caser, one of the U.S. regional champions.” Will looked at the girl shocked,

“Another regional champ!? How many of you guys are there?”

“A lot. Bernards wanted all six regional champs here, and that is what he got.” Will looked at the girl surprised. Before he could respond he heard is name being cried out by Matt and Tim,

“Will where are you!?” He could here Matt shouting. Will looked around, and saw both of them. Isabel looked at Will and asked,

“Is that your partner?”

“Yeah.” He responded. “Pleased to meet you Isabel.”

“Call me Izzie,” she responded.

“Oh! Okay, see ya later Izzie.” Will ran off and joined up with Matt and Tim.

“So how’d your duel with Nate go?” Matt asked. Will pulled out his second color card, and his Divine Emperor, “You really beat him!” Matt shouted,

“Oh yeah. I taught him a lesson about messing with my cards.”

“Don’t get cocky!” Tim responded, “There are some tough duelists here. I know that for a fact.”

Will nodded his head and looked back at the door to the boiler room. He kept thinking about the fire, and how it formed that creepy man from the other day saying that his friends souls would be devoured by the devil death gods. He had to many questions and didn’t know where to go to get the answers.

CHAPTER 7

The Undersea Battle!

Rise, Tyrant Whale!

Will joined back up with Tim and Matt after his duel with Nate Aldrich. Matt looked at Will anxiously, “SO!?” Will smiled and pulled out ‘Almighty, the Divine Emperor’ then he pulled out Nate’s color card. “YES! You beat him!” Matt shouted,

“I didn’t just beat him,” Will replied, “I destroyed him.” Matt was speechless, but Tim was confused,

“What’s going on?” he asked,

“You didn’t tell him?” Will asked Matt,

“No. I didn’t want him to worry.”

“Worry about what?” Will looked up at his big brother,

“Nate Aldrich, one of the U.S. regional champs, challenged me to a duel.” Tim looked at him confused,

“Why is that so bad?”

“Because!” Matt interrupted, “He threatened to drop ‘Almighty, the Divine Emperor’ into the water!”

“What!?” Tim shouted, “Does he know how rare that card is?” Will nodded his head,

“Yeah, that’s why he threatened it. He knew I’d come after it.”

Tim nodded his head. He was happy that Will beat Nate and got his card back, but he was still upset with what happened, but he soon got over it.

Meanwhile, Nate was running through a crowd of people. He ran into another man, “Jason!”

The man called Jason looked down at him, “What?”

“I need your help.”

“With what?” Nate gave him a look, and emptied out his pockets, “You lost! To that kid!”

“He is a lot tougher than I expected. I didn’t take the proper procedures to beat him.”

“Don’t worry,” Jason said, “I’ll take him out.”

“You can’t! You don’t have the same color card as him!” Jason looked down at his card, and his card was blue.

“Well I’ll take out his partner. By the way, who is his partner?” Nate shook his head,

“I don’t know.” Jason nodded his head,

“Then don’t worry about a thing. I’ll take them out for you, little bro.”

Will, Matt, and Tim were walking around looking for other opponent’s to duel,

“So who should I duel?” Matt asked,

“Someone who isn’t too tough,” Tim responded,

“What does that mean!?” Matt shouted. Will and Tim laughed. As they walked Jason cut them off,

“Sorry,” he said. Matt looked down and saw that he was wearing a duel disk, and looked back up at him,

“Are you in the tournament, or are you just wearing that duel disk to act cool?” Jason held up his duel disk,

“Nope I’m in the tournament. My name is Jason.”

“Who’s your partner?” Will asked. Jason looked at him and smiled,

“My partner is a regional champion, and my kid brother, Nate Aldrich.”

“WHAT!?” the three shouted,

“What?” Jason responded,

“You’re brother almost trashed my card!” Will shouted. Jason looked at him shocked,

“What!? What happened?”

“He took the card and threatened to drop it over the edge of the boat!” Matt shouted,

“I’m sorry. He told me he was going to do anything to beat you, but I didn’t think he’d do something that drastic.”

“Well he did!” Jason seemed speechless, but he finally got the courage and spoke,

“I’m sorry for my partner’s deeds, so how about we duel to settle the scores. No harm, just a regular duel.”

“Well I would duel you, but our color cards aren’t the same.” Will said,

“I wasn’t talking to you. I was talking to your partner.” Matt looked at Jason shocked,

“You want to duel me?” he said.

“Of course. You’re the legendary Will Axel’s partner, so he must’ve picked somebody good to be his partner. Besides, I’d have to duel you eventually.” Matt was speechless, “So what do you have to say?”

Matt remained silent for a little while, “Alright. Let’s go then.”

The four of them walked to the back of the boat, and the two activated their duel disks. “DUEL!”

Matt = 4000 LP

Jason = 4000 LP

“I’ll go first,” Matt said. “Draw!” Matt drew his card and smiled a small smile, “First, I set two cards and summon ‘Masked Dragon’!” A pillar of fire shot from the ground and from it appeared Matt’s ‘Masked Dragon’ (ATK/1400).

“Alright, then here I come. Draw!” Jason shouted. “I activate my ‘Summoning Pool’ spell card!”

“What does that card do?” Jason smiled,

“This card allows me to summon two water monsters from my hand. So now I summon out ‘Giant Red Seasnake, and ‘Deep Diver’!” Suddenly, two monsters appeared before Jason. (Giant Red Seasnake - ATK/1800) (Deep Diver - ATK/1000)

“Uh-oh! Two monsters in one turn. You couldn’t be planning on-”

“Tributing them to summon a monster? Yes! So I tribute both of my monsters to summon the most diabolical sea creature in existence! Come forth ‘Tyrant Whale’!” Just then the two monsters disappeared into a pool of water, and from the pool jumped an enormous whale monster (Tyrant Whale - ATK/2900).

“Oh my god!” The three shouted,

“That thing is enormous!” Will shouted. Jason smiled and began to chuckle,

“Wow,” he thought to himself, “this is the legendary Will Axel’s dueling partner. I’ll duel circles around this kid.”

“I can’t believe it,” Matt mumbled. “A monster with 2900 attack points on the first turn! That is incredible!” Jason looked at Matt confused,

“Why are you so happy?” Matt just looked at Jason and smiled,

“Because I’ll feel ten times happier after I crush that thing!” Jason looked at Matt with disgust,

“You won’t bluff me out! Attack now ‘Tyrant Whale’!” ‘Tyrant Whale’ lunged forward, destroying Matt’s ‘Masked Dragon’ and 1500 of his life points, and knocking him down.

Matt = 2500 LP

Matt slowly stumbled up to his feet, “Now thanks to my monster’s effect I can summon another ‘Masked Dragon’ from my deck!” Just as the monster before, a pillar of fire shot from the ground and from it came another ‘Masked Dragon’ (ATK/1400).

“Big deal. I destroyed that thing once, and I’ll do it again.” Matt just grinned, “What do you have to grin about!? You’re facing off against my most devastating monster! You can’t win!”

“Oh ha! I’ll beat you this turn!” Jason, Will and Tim all looked surprised at Matt, “My turn! Draw!” Matt grinned so big it scared Jason,

“What did you draw!?”

“I’ll show you! I activate my first face down card ‘Call of the Haunted’ bringing back my fallen ‘Masked Dragon’!” The monster appeared back on Matt’s side of the field, and stared at Jason with rage. “Next I activate my second face down card ‘Sacred Seal of Summoning’!”

“What!” They all shouted,

“The fires of destruction burn through the souls of the wicked! Scion Summon! My Strength! ‘Black Fire Dragon’!” The two dragons exploded, and from the smoke of the destroyed dragons flew the great ‘Black Fire Dragon’ (ATK/2400). Jason looked at the monster shocked and then began to laugh,

“You worked so hard to summon that thing, and it only has 2400 points! What is the point in that!?” Jason mocked,

“I guess you don’t know then. My monster has a special power. Once per turn, my dragon gains half the attack of one of your monsters!” Jason got silent.

“What?”

As Tim and Will watched from the side, Tim looked at Will, “Doesn’t this seem familiar?” he asked. Will looked back up at him,

“What do you mean?”

“It’s like your duel with Brendon. Matt is like you, summoning his ace monster which can destroy Jason’s ‘Tyrant Whale’, just like how your emperor took out the ‘White Lightning Dragon’.”

“You’re right!”

“Let’s just see, though, if Matt can end this like you did.”

“I now activate my ‘Black Fire Dragon’s’ special ability, increasing his attack by 1450!” ‘Black Fire Dragon’s’ points bolted up to 3850, “And now, by removing one of my fallen dragons from play I can summon out one of my favorite monsters! Come forth “Turtle Rock Dragon’!” ‘Masked Dragon’ was removed from the game, and Matt summoned out the rock-like ‘Turtle Rock Dragon’ (ATK/1000).

“Big deal!” shouted Jason. “What can that thing do?” Matt smiled even bigger,

“I’ll show you!” Suddenly, ‘Black Fire Dragon’s’ ATK increased by 500. (Black Fire Dragon - ATK/4350)

“Wh-What happened!?”

“My ‘Turtle Rock Dragon’ increases the power of all other dragons on my field by 500, but that’s not the effect I’m gonna be using! I activate my ‘Turtle Rock Dragon’s’ second effect! By tributing him, all of my dragons can attack you directly!”

“No way!” ‘Turtle Rock Dragon’ crumbled to the ground, reducing ‘Black Fire Dragon’s ATK back to 3850.

“Now go! Black Fire Shooter!” ‘Black Fire Dragon’ launched a great blast of fire directly at Jason knocking his life points down to 150.

Jason = 150 LP

Matt = 1500 LP

“Ha! I’m still here!” Jason shouted,

“Not for long, because I activate ‘Dragon’s Gunfire’!”

“What!?” After that they were all speechless,

“I take it you know what this does then. This’ll inflict 800 points of direct damage to my opponent, if I control a dragon, and what are the odds that I do? Now go! Finish this!” ‘Black Fire Dragon’ launched another ball of fire from his mouth, and reduced Jason’s life points to 0.

Jason = 0 LP

“I don’t believe it.” Jason mumbled. He suddenly started to remember what Nate said to him before he left to find Matt,

“Remember! After you beat him you’ll be one step closer to the finals. Don’t disappoint me Jason!”

“Don’t worry little bro, I’ll beat this guy five times over.”

“Good duel.” Matt walked over to Jason, and held out his hand. Jason looked at it blankly,

“Yeah,” he finally grabbed it, and began to shake his hand, “good duel.” Jason let go, handed over his color card, and began to walk away. At first Matt was speechless, but then he finally spoke,

“Where are you going?”

“I lost. I need to go tell my partner.” Jason began to walk away again, but Matt cut him off.

“Wait! Before you go, I want you to have this.” Matt pulled a card out of his pocket and handed it off to Jason. He looked at the card, and was shocked,

“‘Aqua Kraking! This is a powerful scion monster!”

“I know. I want you to have it. It is both a symbol of are rivalry, and are forgiveness of what Nate did.” Jason looked at Matt,

“Rivalry?”

“Yeah,” Tim and Will walked in, “a dueling rivalry. You two will continue to duel on and on until one of you is finally voted superior.” Jason looked at Matt,

“Rivals. That’ll be us. I’ll see you guys again sometime.”

“Yeah.” Matt said, and with that Jason disappeared into a crowd of people. The group was silent for a little while, and finally Matt spoke up, “A dueling rival. I feel a lot like you now, Will.” Will looked at him confused,

“What do you mean?”

“Like with you and Brendon Roarak.” Will grinned,

“I guess you’re right. I wonder when we’ll meet again?” Will pulled out his divine emperor, and looked at it,

“I bet he’s somewhere on this boat,” Tim said. “You two will duel again, and just like last time, you’ll beat him!” Will nodded his head, and the group set off.

Meanwhile, Bernards was watching the duel from his balcony, “Perfect. Three of the six have been found, and it seems they’re all as powerful as ever. This tournament will suck them all dry, and I’ll finally get what I deserve.”

CHAPTER 8

The Beast Who Can See the Future!

Will, Matt and Tim wandered around Bernard’s boat looking for others to duel. Matt was constantly bragging about his victory over Jason Aldrich, and it was driving Tim and Will crazy,

“And then I used my dragon’s effect to increase its attack! Man that was awesome!”

“We get it!” The two shouted at him,

“What? I’m so pumped! I feel like I can take on anybody now!” Matt replied.

“Well get a hold of yourself before you duel someone you regret.”

“Please,” Matt responded, “like who?”

Suddenly a familiar voice spoke out, “How about Logan Dare?” The three looked around for the host of the voice. To Will’s surprise it was Izzie from earlier,

“Hey Izzie. Who’s Logan Dare?” The two looked at Will,

“Izzie?” Matt asked. She looked over at him and smirked,

“Yes, my name is Izzie Caser,” she looked back over at Will, “and to answer your question Will, Logan Dare is a duelist here who has been cheating from the beginning.” The three looked at her like she was crazy. They couldn’t believe that somebody would cheat in the tournament.

“That pisses me off!” Matt shouted, “I need to teach this guy a lesson!”

“No you won’t!” Izzie snapped, “Logan is one of the Regional Champs. He’d slaughter you.”

“So what!” He snapped back, “I just beat Jason Aldrich, another Regional Champion! I think I can take on this guy.” Tim looked at Matt frustrated,

“Matt you barely took out Jason. I don’t think you can handle a cheating champ.”

Will started to laugh as Matt lost his temper, “Don’t worry guys,” he said, “I’ll beat this guy.” Everything got quiet as the others looked at Will. “What?”

“Will you’re good,” Tim responded, “But a cheater is a cheater. He’d be hard to defeat.”

“I’ve dealt with a cheater before. I think I can take on this guy.” Will looked over at Izzie, “Tell me where this guy is.”

The group headed over to the bow of the ship. Izzie told them that Logan’s deck is marked and he can tell what cards he is going to draw next. Finally they made it to the bow, and there stood Logan and a girl dueling.

Logan = 5000 LP

Girl = 1200 LP

“How pathetic!” Logan shouted, “I have more than my original life points, and you have less than half. You don’t get much sadder than that!” Logan began to laugh,

“Oh no!” Izzie cried out,

“What?” Will asked,

“That’s Mikala! She’s my partner! I’ve never seen her get this big of a beating before!”

“Don’t worry. I’ll take care of this.” Will walked over and stood behind Mikala,

“Who are you?” she asked, but Will didn’t answer,

“Hey Logan! Why don’t you duel fair for a change!” Logan looked over at Will, angry,

“Fair? I duel fair.” Logan looked down at Mikala, “Now if you don’t mind, I’ll finish this now!”

“No you won’t!” Will interrupted. “I’ll take Mikala’s place. We can even keep the life points, and if you win, you‘ll get all of my Color Cards.” Logan stared at Will with a smirk on his face,

“I’ll take that challenge! Who are you kid?” Will smiled at Logan,

“I’m Will Axels, the one who defeated Brendon Roarak.” Logan’s expression changed from sinister smile to scared speechless,

“Y-You! You’re the legendary duelist Bernards is flaunting about!?”

“That’s right, now let’s get this duel on the road!” Will pulled out his duel disk and placed his deck in it.

“DUEL!” He shouted,

Will = 1200 LP

Logan = 5000 LP

“Seeing how I’m the new one, I’ll go first. Draw!” Will drew his card and looked at the field. Logan was holding four cards, had two cards face down, and one monster on the field. Will didn’t know what the monster what it was, but he could tell it was a beast-type. (Beast Monster - ATK/2600) “Alright! Here I come! First, I set one card, then I activate ‘Heavy Storm’! This’ll destroy all spell and trap cards on the field!” Logan was shocked. A large gust of wind destroyed both of Logan’s face-down cards, and Will’s face-down.

“Why’d you do that!? Your card was destroyed as well!”

“I know, but that’s what I wanted. The card I destroyed was my ‘Destructive Price’ card! This’ll let me draw one card when it’s destroyed, and then I send one monster from my deck or extra deck to the graveyard!” Logan looked even more confused then before. Will looked through his deck and sent a monster to the graveyard.

“What card did you send to the graveyard!?” Logan was scared,

“Just a monster I like to call ‘Grave Fairy’! Now I activate her special ability!”

“What!” Logan shouted. On the sidelines Tim smiled,

“‘Grave Fairy’. With that, he can special summon any fairy monster in his hand or graveyard,”

“Now I summon “Majestic Mech - Goryu’!” The clouds began to get dark, and a bolt of lightning shot down and from it spawned Goryu. (Majestic Mech - Goryu - ATK/2900)

“N-No way!” Logan didn’t know what to think. He was staring down a monster whose attack was higher than his monster’s.

“Goryu! Attack!” Goryu lunged forward towards Logan’s monster and Logan was speechless. His monster was destroyed like it was nothing.

Logan = 4700 LP

“Ha! Now my ‘Bloody Fang’s’ effect activates!”

“What!?” The group shouted.

“ ‘Bloody Fang’!” Will cried out. “I Should’ve known about that!” Logan smirked,

“That’s right! When my monster is destroyed, you take damage equal to the number of cards in your hand times 300!” The ‘Bloody Fang’ lunged out from nowhere and struck Will lowering his life points tremendously.

Will = 300 LP

“Oh no!” Mikala shouted, “I should’ve warned him about his effect!”

“Don’t worry,” Will responded, “I know exactly what I’m going to do. Now I activate the effect of the ‘Dark Prophet’ in my hand!”

“What does that card do?” Logan asked. Will smirked at him,

“‘Dark Prophet’s’ effect activates when a fairy monster attacks, and inflicts less than 500 points of damage. Now, I can summon my ‘Dark Prophet’!” Darkness began to cloud the arena and from it appeared the ‘Dark Prophet’ (Dark Prophet - ATK/2100). “Now I activate my Prophet’s second ability! By tributing him, a fairy monster can attack you once again!”

“No!”

“That’s right! Goryu, attack him again!” A bolt of lightning shot out towards Logan and struck him directly.

Logan = 1800 LP

“Wow!” The crowd responded. Matt was watching in awe. He’d never seen Will duel this way before.

“I set my last two cards, and end my turn.”

“You sure got lucky Axels,” Logan smirked, “But now it’s my turn! Draw!” Logan drew his card and stared at his hand. “First I activate my spell card ‘Destiny’s Calling’! This allows me to call the name of the top card of my deck. If I call it right, my opponent takes 1000 point’s of damage!”

“What!?” Will cried out,

“Now let me take a gander at what card I think is next,”

“That’s not fair! Your cards are rigged!” Matt cried out,

“No! My deck isn’t rigged, but I have cards in my deck which allow me to see the next cards! So now I activate ‘Pigeonholing Books of Spell’! This allows me to look at the top three cards of my deck and rearrange them in any order I want!” Matt was shocked,

“Now there is now way he can be wrong!”

“That is right! I win!” Logan arranged his three cards and called the top card, ‘Silver Fang’!”

“I activate ‘Shadow Veil’! This removes the top five cards in your deck from play!”

“No!” Logan cried out. Just then the top five cards were removed from play,

“And now that you called your card, let’s see if the next card is a ‘Silver Fang’!” Logan drew his card scared. He pulled the card and it wasn’t ‘Silver Fang’ but ‘Wild Nature’s Release’, “No!”

“And now you lose 1000 Life Points due to your card’s effect!”

“No way!”

“But who said I was done? I activate my second face down card ‘Chaos Force’! This double’s all damage you take until the end phase, so now your 1000 points is bumped up to 2000!”

“What! No way!” Logan’s face was scared,

“This duel is over!” Logan’s life points dropped straight to 0.

Logan = 0 LP

“No way! I lost!?” Logan fell to his knees,

“It looks like you owe everyone you dueled an apology.”

“No! I didn’t lose!” Logan stood up and attacked Will. He tackled him to the ground, took his color cards, and began to run.

“Hey! Get back here you bastard!” Izzie shouted. Logan kept running, but he got cut off by Tim, who close lined him. Logan fell to the ground whining,

“I can’t lose! I didn’t lose!”

“You lost big time you loser.” Tim picked up Logan, took out all of his color cards, and threw him back to the ground. Izzie and Matt were helping Will up as Tim was returning. He handed his little brother the cards, “You won these I believe?” Will nodded his head and took the cards. Logan had a total of eight cards which then gave will 10 Red Color Cards,

“Wow!” Izzie and Mikala looked at Will, “You have enough cards to enter the semi-finals!” Will was shocked. He didn’t realize that 10 was the number to enter the semi-finals. The group all walked off together towards the center of the deck.

Meanwhile, Bernards found Logan lying on the ground whining to himself, “Well, well, well. Looks like you lost Mr. Dare. Looks like you have to pay the consequence.” Logan looked up at Bernards,

“What?” Bernards pulled a dark, abstract, jar-like object out of a bag he was holding, and held it close to Logan,

“Awaken!” Suddenly, Logan began to fade away into the jar. He began to scream, but no noise came out of his mouth. Just as quickly as he appeared, Bernards was gone, and so was Logan.

CHAPTER 9

The Space Man Cometh

Will and the others were walking around the main deck of Bernards’ boat looking for others to duel. Will just recently acquired all of the required Color Cards for entering the semi-final match, but Matt still only had two, which was stressing him out,

“What am I going to do!?” he shouted,

“You’re going to duel. What else?” Tim responded. Everyone except for Matt laughed,

“I’m serious!” he shouted, “I don’t have enough time to duel duelists who only have a few color cards! I need someone with a bunch!”

“Like Logan?” Will asked,

“Yeah!” The group thought about it for a while before something caught Matt’s eye. There was a boy, who didn’t look any older than 12, arguing with one of the security guards. Matt couldn’t here much of what he was saying, but he could here some of it,

“What do you mean my partner disappeared!?” Matt pointed his finger at the boy to indicate him to the others, who looked like he intended. The group couldn’t here much of what the boy was saying, but every time he yelled they could.

Eventually, Matt got up and walked over to the boy and the guard,

“What seems to be the problem?” he asked. The boy looked over at Matt furiously,

“This guy doesn’t know where my partner went off too, and he’s too lazy to look for him!” The guard just looked up in the air and sighed,

“Kid,” he said, “I would help you, but there are too many people aboard the ship to tend for. I’m sure your partner will turn up eventually,”

“Yeah right! Not my partner! He’s an idiot!” The guard just looked at the boy like he was crazy,

“I’m sorry kid, but there is nothing I can do,” and with that the guard was off. The boy began to chase after him, but Matt held him back,

“Hey! Let me go! I’m gonna go talk to Bernards!” As the boy began to trot off, Tim caught up to the kid,

“Hey hold on little guy,” he said. “Why don’t we help you find your partner?”

“Who are you?” the kid asked.

“My name is Tim Axels,” he responded. The boy just looked at Tim with awe on his face,

“You mean ‘the’ Tim Axels? The old U.S. champ!?” Tim smiled with recognition, and patted the kid on the head,

“That’s right. Ex-U.S. champion Timothy Robert Axels in the flesh!” The boy, along with Mikala and Izzie, were in shock. None of them had any idea that Will’s elder brother was the former U.S. champion. The boy walked up to Tim, admiring him,

“I can’t believe I’m looking at one of the world’s top 10 duelists!” Tim looked proud, and everyone else was shocked, except for Will. Matt looked at Tim with a confused look,

“You’re one of the top duelists in the world!?” Tim looked at him with a disappointed look,

“Yup, but I had to give up my title so I could go to college,” everyone, except Will, was shocked by what Tim had said. The boy grabbed Tim’s arm and shook it,

“How could you do that! You were at the top of the world and you gave it all up!?” Tim looked down at the kid and smiled,

“ I had too. There was no choice for me,” everyone was quite as Tim spoke. “You see, there will always be people trying to get better and better, and eventually I would lose and I’d have nothing to fall back on. Now, I’m known through out America as the greatest champion there was. I didn’t have a single loss my entire reign as champ, and everyone still knows me for that,” everyone was impressed by what Tim was saying. Eventually the kid spoke out,

“Wow! That’s amazing,” the group turned and looked at the kid, who was still in awe about Tim’s status as champion. Finally, Will asked the long awaited question,

“Kid, who are you?” The kid shook his head as if he was getting out of a daze and looked at Will,

“My name is Tyler Char, and I’m here to win this tournament with my partner!” Everyone looked at the kid as if he wasn’t finished, “What?” he asked,

“Who’s your partner?” Izzie asked. Tyler looked at Izzie,

“My partner is Logan Dare, but the idiot is nowhere to be seen!” Matt’s jaw dropped. He grabbed Tyler by the arm and looked at him intently,

“Hey you’re Logan’s partner, so you must have a lot of color cards then, right!?”

Tyler looked at Matt like he was crazy, but he nodded his head,

“Yeah, do you wanna duel?” Matt smiled, and pulled out his deck,

“You betcha!” Tyler got out his deck as well, and the two moved to the opposite sides of the boat, and activated their duel disks,

“DUEL!”

Matt = 4000 LP

Tyler drew his five cards, and looked up at Matt, “I’ll go first,”

“Alright,” Tyler drew his sixth card and looked at all of them with glee,

“I hope you’re ready for this! I summon out ‘The Astronaut’!” From the sky fell a silver and white armored astronaut. (The Astronaut - ATK/1600) Matt looked at the science fiction monster with a confused look,

“What can some sci-fi monster do?”

“This sci-fi monster can do a whole lot more than you think,” Tyler smiled. “Now before I end my turn, I set three cards,” Matt’s confused look changed to a scared look.

Will looked down at Tyler’s field, “Three face downs!?”

“That’s a lot for one turn,” Izzie replied. Tim watched intently.

“I think there’s more to it than just ambushing Matt,” he responded. The others looked at him not knowing what he was talking about.

Matt stared at three face down cards and then up at ‘The Astronaut’, “What are those face downs going to do!?” Tyler just looked at him and smiled,

“I end my turn, thus triggering my monster’s effect!”

“What!?” everyone cried out,

“That’s right,” Tyler snickered, “my monster’s effect activates when I end my turn, and he doesn’t attack: You take 300 points of damage for every set card on the field, and I just put three cards face down so you take 900 points of damage!” ‘The Astronaut’ raised his hands towards Matt and blasted him with a bright green blast, knocking him down.

Matt = 3100 LP

Matt got back up to his feet and looked at Tyler, “Not bad, but know it’s my turn! Draw!” Matt drew his sixth card and looked at them. “First I set one card, and then I summon out ‘Luster Dragon’!” (ATK/1900)

“Not so fast!” Tyler interrupted, “I activate my ‘Forced Back’ trap card! This automatically returns a monster you normal summon back to your hand!”

“No way!” Matt’s monster was engulfed in a vortex of wind and returned to his hand.

“I don’t believe it!” cried Will, “Tyler’s gonna completely waste Matt before he gets the chance to attack.”

“I think that’s his plan,” Tim responded. Will and the others looked over at Tim. “Tyler’s using a Stall and Burn deck. He’ll constantly chip away at Matt’s life points and stop him from doing anything about it. It’s a very powerful and cheap deck when used right.”

“What a coward,” Mikala mumbled. Tyler looked over at the bystanders and snickered,

“Say what you want about my deck, but I consider it to be the smartest of all decks,” Tyler looked back to Matt, “Now continue with your turn.”

Matt looked around helplessly, “Alright, with no monster, I set another card. You’re turn.” Tyler smiled and drew his card,

“You’re gonna regret facing me now! I summon my second space traveler ‘The Cosmonaut’!” Like before with the other monster, another white and silver monster fell from the sky. (The Cosmonaut - ATK/1000)

“Oh no! What does that thing do?” Matt asked,

“This monster has a very similar effect to my astronaut, but you’ll just have to wait and see what he does,” Tyler picked up a card from his hand, “Now I set another card, and end my turn.”

Suddenly, ‘The Astronaut’ launched out his green blast again, but this time his life points went down by 1500.

Matt = 1600 LP

“What!?” Everyone shouted,

“Why’d my life points go down by 1500 this time!?” Tyler looked over at Matt and chuckled,

“Because of all the face down cards on the field. I have three cards and you have two,”

“What! It applies to my cards too!?” Everyone was shocked by this,

“That is right, and now the effect of my cosmonaut activates as well! You lose 500 life points for every face up monster on the field!” Once again a green blast was launched at Matt and reduced his life points by 1000,

Matt = 600 LP

“This is perfect,” Tyler thought to himself, “Thanks to my face downs I’ve got him completely locked down. My first face down card ‘Magic Jammer’ will stop any of his spell cards, and then I have a ‘Sakuretsu Armor’ will destroy any of his attacking monsters, and my ‘Bottomless Trap Hole’ will destroy any powerful monster he summons. I’ve got him cornered.”

“This is insane!” Matt shouted to himself, “I can’t beat him like this!”

“Don’t give up Matt!” Will shouted. Matt looked over to Will,

“Why not! I can’t beat him. I don’t have a card in my hand which can destroy his monsters or his spells. Let’s face it, I lost,”

“Get a hold of yourself!” Will shouted back, “You just need to be confident! I know you can beat him!”

Matt looked down at his duel disk and closed his eyes, “Come on deck,” he thought to himself, “Don’t let me down!” Matt drew his card and looked at it with relief, “Looks like I’ve won this duel right here!” Everyone looked at Matt surprised except Will,

“What are you talking about!?” Tyler shouted. Matt smirked and looked at Tyler,

“I activate my ‘Heavy Storm’ spell card!” Tyler’s eyes widened, “This’ll destroy all spell and trap cards on the field, so now your cards won’t be able to hurt me!”

“Well it was a good try, but I activate my ‘Magic Jammer’!” The crowd gasped, “You should’ve known that I’d be able to protect my cards,”

“I had a feeling you would, but I was just making sure so that I could lower my number of threats,”

“What!?” Tyler looked at Matt confused. Matt smiled,

“Now I summon out ‘Gateway Dragon’!” From the earth around Matt spawned a giant earth-like dragon. (Gateway Dragon - ATK/500) “But this guy isn’t going to be around for long, because I activate his special effect!”

“What effect are you talking about!?” Tyler’s face changed from fear to confidence, “It doesn’t matter,” he thought to himself, “No matter what he does I’ll still defeat him,” Matt just looked at Tyler and laughed,

“By tributing my monster, I can special summon any dragon monster in my hand, so say hello to one of my strongest monsters!” Tyler’s face didn’t change, “Come forth ‘Tyrant Dragon’!” Finally, Tyler’s expression changed. From the ground erupted a pillar of fire, and from it spawned the ‘Tyrant Dragon’. Tyler looked at the monster in terror, “Now thanks to my monster’s effect, he’s not affected by any trap cards. So now ‘Tyrant Dragon’ attack his astronaut!” ‘Tyrant Dragon’ blasted out a large fire ball and destroyed ‘The Astronaut’ and took out a large chunk of Tyler’s life points,

Tyler = 2700 LP

“And my attack isn’t done, because my ‘Tyrant Dragon’ can attack you multiple times if you control more monsters, so attack again my dragon!” The ‘Tyrant Dragon’ once again attacked Tyler’s Cosmonaut, and inflicted even more damage, thus knocking Tyler down,

Tyler = 800 LP

“Ha!” Tyler shouted, “I still have plenty of life points to defeat you with!”

“No you don’t, because now I activate ‘Dragon’s Gunfire’! This’ll automatically inflict 800 points of damage to your life points if I control a dragon monster,” Everyone’s eyes were wide waiting for the finishing move to defeat Tyler and witness the most amazing comeback they have ever seen. ‘Tyrant Dragon’ launched out a great blast of fire and reduced Tyler’s life points to 0.

Tyler = 0 LP

Matt = 600 LP

“Good duel, Tyler,” Matt walked over to Tyler and offered him his hand, but Tyler just turned him away,

“Sorry for being such a bad sport, but I’m not good with losing,” Matt laughed and looked back at the others,

“Well he’s doing better than Logan was,” the others began to laugh, and their laughter made Tyler start to laugh too. Tyler turned back towards Matt and shook his hand.

“Good duel,” A mysterious voice said. The group looked all around for the host of the voice, but couldn’t see anybody. Finally, Will looked over to a doorway, and standing in it was Scott Bernards.

CHAPTER 10

An Old Rival Returns!

The group looked over at Bernards, who was standing in the doorway of one of the cabins. Tyler looked over at him with an angry look, “Hey you!” he shouted, “Where is my partner!?” Bernards just looked at Tyler and laughed,

“Your partner? Logan Dare?” Bernards asked,

“Yes! Where is he!? Your little guards haven’t been doing their job and aren’t looking for him!” Bernards just kept laughing at him,

“That’s because he’s not lost,” Everyone looked at Bernards confused. Bernards pulled out a strange black looking jar-like object, and held it out in front of himself.

“What is that thing?” everyone asked. Bernards just looked at the ground and laughed,

“This ‘thing’ as you so put it, is the most diabolical object a human being can wield. This is the Devil Death God’s Jar!” Will’s eyes widened, but everyone else looked at Bernards like he was crazy,

“What are you talking about?” Matt asked,

“Yeah! Where is my partner!”

Bernards lifted the lid off of the black jar, and a grayish-blue fog erupted from its body. The fog then shaped into Logan’s shape, and was making mumbling noises. Everyone stared at fog in terror.

Bernards looked at the group and laughed, and suddenly, more fog erupted from the jar and moved its way around Bernards’ boat. The fog moved over the edges and fell down to the water, and some of the others upon the boat turned into fog and disappeared. Eventually, only the group and Bernards were the only ones on the boat.

“What did you do!?” Will shouted,

“Nothing big,” Bernards replied. “I just took the souls of the duelists who lost their duels during my tournament.” Suddenly, the scenery around the boat began to fade away into nothing but a grayish-blue mess.

“What is going on!?” Matt shouted. Bernards looked down at him and smiled.

“The jar of the Devil Death Gods will grant me my wish. The wish I so rightfully deserve!”

“What are you talking about!?” Izzie shouted. Bernards closed the lid to the jar, and all of the fog began to disappear. He then turned around as if ignoring her question, “Answer me!” she shouted.

“It will all be answered in due time, but for now continue on with my tournament. But, now that you’ve seen what happens when you lose, I encourage you not to lose.” Just as Bernards finished the sentence, he vanished into a cloud of grayish-blue fog, and when the fog cleared he was nowhere to be found. The fog then spread around the boat, reforming the people aboard the boat: Security guards, duelists, and bystanders.

“This is really weird,” Mikala mumbled to the others. Will looked over at the door Bernards was standing by,

“Devil Death Gods,” he mumbled to himself. “That weird Star guy mentioned them.”

Matt looked over at Will, “What’d you say?” Will didn’t know if he should tell them about Star, but he figured that there was no better time to do it than now,

“Well, few days ago, after I first dueled Brendon Roarak, I dueled this weird guy who talked a lot about the Devil Death Gods. He didn’t tell about what they where, but he showed me what some of them looked like, and it wasn’t pretty,”

“This is insane!” Matt shouted. “I bet it was all just some weird magic trick. Seriously, these Devil Death Gods don’t exist. Now Tyler, you haven’t given me my color cards for beating you yet so….” Matt looked over at where Tyler was standing, but realized that Tyler wasn’t there anymore, “What? Where did he go?”

“He’s with me,” A familiar voice said. It was Bernards. The group looked up and saw Bernards hovering above them with the jar in his hands. “Like I said, all who lose their duels will come to me.” He pulled a handful of color cards out of his pocket and dropped them over the Matt, “There. Happy birthday child. There should be plenty for all of you there,” Bernards laughed, and just like he appeared he vanished. Before the group were a pile of red and blue color cards, enough for everyone like Bernards had said.

“I can’t believe this,” Tim mumbled to himself. “How can he have that kind of power?”

“I don’t know,” Will replied. Matt grabbed some of the color cards that matched his own until he had 10,

“This is so weird,” he said, “but check it out. Now we’re both in the semi-finals!” Will gave him an evil glare, “What?”

“Don’t you see what’s going on!? Bernards is using some sort of magical power to seal away the souls of the duelists in that jar. We might never see them again, and if we duel, one of us will be locked away in that jar!”

Everyone looked up towards the sky and noticed that the sun was setting. Izzie and Mikala then picked up two color cards each and added them to their collection. Izzie walked over behind Will,

“Don’t worry about it. Now all of us are going to be in the semi-finals. It doesn’t matter who we duel now, but one of us is going to duel Bernards during the final match, and when we win we’ll force his to let everybody go!” Will nodded his head in agreement, and looked down at his duel disk.

“I’ll defeat him,” he thought to himself. “I don’t care what it takes, but I’m going to use all my power to defeat Bernards and set everyone free.”

Meanwhile inside Bernards’ personal cabin, Nate and Jason Aldrich sat in the darkness. Nate looked over at Jason and nudged him, “What are we doing here?” he asked,

“I don’t know?” Jason replied. “I’m as clueless here as you are.” Suddenly, the door flew open and the room was full of light. From outside walked Bernards. Nate stood up and walked over to Bernards’ angrily,

“What took you so long!? You invite us to your cabin then you make us wait for a half-an-hour!” Bernards just smiled at Nate,

“I’m terribly sorry, but I got caught up in watching a duel,” Bernards walked past Nate, ignoring him, and sat down at the far end of the rectangular table in the middle of the room.

“Why are we here?” Jason asked,

“Because I want to know if you two are interested in being in the semi-final rounds of the tournament?” The two looked at Bernards with a sly look,

“What’s the catch?” Jason asked. Bernards just laughed,

“A duel. I want you two to duel someone in a two-on-one match. With your skills it should be plenty easy.” Nate and Jason smiled,

“This’ll be easy,” Nate responded,

“But I haven’t even told you who you are dueling?” The two looked confused. Bernards stood up and walked over to a door, and opened it and out walked a duelist who made both Nate and Jason’s eyes widen: Brendan Roarak,

“You!” Nate shouted,

“That’s right. Me!” Brendan shouted back.

“Now here are the rules of the duel: Jason and Nate will be dueling against Brendan Roarak. You will each have 4000 life points, but in Nate and Jason’s case, when one of you lose life points, you both lose life points. The order will go Nate, Jason, Brendan. The winner, or winners, will be granted automatic admission to the semi-final rounds. Is everything clear?” Bernards looked, and the three all nodded, “Good. Then let this duel commence!”

Nate, Jason, and Brendan all looked at each other and shouted, “DUEL!”

Nate = 4000 LP

Jason = 4000 LP

Brendan = 4000 LP

Nate drew his first card, “Brace yourself! I first summon out ‘Robotic Claw’!” The ‘Robotic Claw’ appeared before Nate (Robotic Claw - ATK/1000), “And thanks to my claw’s effect, I can special summon two more ‘Robotic Claws’!” The room flashed as two more ‘Robotic Claws’ appeared before Nate (Robotic Claw - ATK/1000 x3). “Next, I tribute my three claws to summon out the mighty ‘Chimera Mecha’!” The three claws began to merge together and in a flash of light appeared the mighty ‘Chimera Mecha’ (ATK/3000). “That’ll be it for my turn,”

“Then it’s my turn!” Jason drew his card and looked at it with pleasure. “To start I activate ‘Summoning Pool’! This allows me to summon out two Water attribute monsters. So say hello to two of my ‘Hydrogeddon’!” A pool of water appeared in the center of the room, and from it spawned two ‘Hydrogeddon’ (ATK/1600 x2). “And lastly, I’ll tribute my two monsters to summon out my all powerful ‘Tyrant Whale’!” The two water monsters disappeared into an orb of water and from it spawned Jason’s ‘Tyrant Whale’ (ATK/2900). “Let’s see you beat that on your first turn!” Brendan just looked at the two and smiled.

“This’ll be cake,” Brendan said with confidence as he drew his card. “First I activate ‘Clustering Clouds’! This’ll allow me to add 2 Thunder monsters with 1500 attack or less to my hand, and I choose ‘Red Thunder Cloud’ and ‘Storm Trooper’! So now I activate my ‘Storm Cauldron’ which allows me to summon one Thunder monster from my hand, like ‘Red Thunder Cloud’!” A cloud formed above Brendan’s head, and was dyed a bright red. (Red Thunder Cloud - ATK/500). Nate just looked at him and smiled,

“‘Red Thunder Cloud’? That card’s effect won’t work. My ‘Chimera Mecha’ stops you from activating face-down spells or traps, and your cloud allows you to activate traps after you set them. Your plan fails!” Brendan just smiled back,

“You don’t understand anything. I know all about your mech, and I know exactly how to stop it. Now I summon out ‘Thunder Trooper’ and activate my ‘Over Circuit’ spell!” Jason and Nate’s eyes widened. A bolt of lightning struck down and before them was ‘Thunder Trooper’ (ATK/1000) “Now as long as I control a thunder monster, all of your monsters’ effects are negated!” Suddenly, ‘Chimera Mecha’ began to spark, and it fell to the ground,

“No!” Nate shouted,

“Yes! Now I activate the effect of ‘Red Thunder Cloud’! By paying 1000 life points I can activate a Trap card when I set it, so now by setting my ‘Sacred Seal of Summoning’ I can activate it!” Brendan’s life points were reduced by 1000 and the ‘Sacred Seal of Summoning’ was activated.

Brendan = 3000 LP

“Now this is the end! From the skies above, the darkness is vanquished, and light overcomes all! Scion Summon! The Incredible! ‘White Lightning Dragon’!” A lightning bolt crashed from all of the lights in the room and formed the legendary ‘White Lightning Dragon’ (ATK/3000). Just then, a bolt of lightning shot out of the dragon’s mouth and struck the two duelists.

Nate = 3500 LP

Jason = 3500 LP

“What happened!?” Jason shouted,

“My ‘Thunder Trooper’s’ effect. When he’s removed from the field by means other than battle, you take 500 points of damage, and I gain another ‘Thunder Trooper’!” Just then another ‘Thunder Trooper’ appeared where the other one was. “Now I activate the effect of my ‘White Lightning Dragon’! I can tribute one of my monsters, and destroy all of yours! So I tribute my ‘Thunder Trooper’ to trigger my monster’s effect!” ‘Thunder Trooper’ began to disappear, and ‘White Lightning Dragon’ blasted out a barrage of lightning which destroyed both ‘Chimera Mecha’ and ‘Tyrant Whale’,

“No way!” Nate and Jason shouted, “Our best monsters!”

“And since I tributed ‘Thunder Trooper’ you take another 500 points of damage, and I gain another ‘Thunder Trooper’!” A ‘Thunder Trooper’ appeared on Brendan’s side of the field once again, and another bolt of lighting was shot at his two opponent’s.

Nate = 3000 LP

Jason = 3000 LP

“Now, it’s time to end this! ‘White Lightning Dragon’ attack!” The dragon inhaled and blasted out a storm of lightning bolts directly at Nate and Jason, reducing their life points to zero.

Nate = 0 LP

Jason = 0 LP

“I don’t believe it!” Nate fell to his knees and his cards fell out of his duel disk, “I lost again. I let my monster get destroyed,” Jason looked over at Nate,

“Little bro?” Suddenly, Nate began to fade away into a grayish-blue fog, and then disappear. “Little brother! Nathan!” Jason looked behind him and saw Bernards holding the Jar of the Devil Death Gods, “What did you do to my brother!?” Bernards just laughed. He opened the jar again, and the same thing happened to Jason. He faded away into a grayish-blue fog.

Bernards then walked over to Brendan, “Good job Mr. Roarak, but what should I have expected? Now you are on your way to defeating Will Axels, and regaining your title as the U.S. champion.” Brendan just ignored him, and sat down at the table. He looked out a window, and saw Will and the others sitting on chairs, talking,

“I’ll destroy you,” he mumbled to himself, “If it’s the last thing I do, you will fall to me!” Brendan smashed his deck against the table, and pulled out his ‘White Lightning Dragon and looked at it, “I swear upon my monster that it will defeat you along side me.”
