This is my 2nd original fanfic, Protect.

And this is the preview. If I get good feedback, I'll continue.

[spoiler=Chapter 1]

Chapter 1 - Sin

A young girl approached a giant cross. On the cross was a teenage boy with black hair that fell down to his shoulders. The boy’s features were hidden by the darkness of the room. The girl brushed her yellow hair from her face.

She approached the boy and softly touched his face with her hand. “It’s time.”

The boy’s eyes remained closed for a minute, maybe two. Then, they shot open. His scarlet eyes shone through the darkness.

The girl gave him a small smile. “Go, now.”

The boy looked down at the girl. He broke the restraints that held him up on the cross and fell on one knee without a noise. He began walking toward the door. He grabbed a black trench coat and put it on before slamming the door shut.

The girl nodded. “Good luck…”

When the boy stepped outside, he looked up. The moon was shining directly above him. The streets were deserted, its only occupant a piece of newspaper blowing in the wind. The boy crouched down and jumped up. He landed on a low roof and looked around. He ran toward the edge of the roof and jumped onto the next one. He continued jumping from roof to roof, becoming faster with each landing.

A teenager wearing a black suit entered a large room. He approached a large bed where a girl was sleeping.

The teenager nudged the girl gently on the shoulder. “It’s time to wake up, Milady.”

The girl opened her hazel eyes. She looked around, pawing her brown hair from her eyes. She rolled out of her bed and looked at the teenager, his blond hair seeming golden in the morning sun.

The girl rubbed her eye. “Ray… what’s wrong?”

Ray smiled. “Your breakfast is ready.”

The girl nodded. She walked over to a large wardrobe and began selecting clothes.

After a few seconds she looked back at Ray. “I’m going to change…”

Ray blushed and nodded. “Oh, right!”

Ray dashed out of the room as the girl sighed and began changing. After a few minutes, she finished and was a bout to walk out of her room when Ray burst inside.

Ray slammed the door shut. “Milady, you have to go, now!”

The girl stepped back. “Ray… what’s happening?”

Ray locked the door. “Some people are here. They’ve come to get you. Your parents were already…”

The girl’s eyes widened. “No… don’t say it. What can we do, though?”

Ray took the girl’s hand. “I don’t know… but as your butler, and as my father’s will, I have to protect you!”

Ray pulled the girl near the window, and cradled her in his arms. He was about to jump when the door burst open to reveal two men, both aiming guns at Ray.

One of the men smirked. “Hand over the girl, and you may live, boy…”

Ray clenched his teeth. He could jump out the window right now, but he’d most likely get shot. A fall from that height would kill the one he was charged with protecting. Ray closed his eyes and was ready to jump. One of the men pulled the trigger. Ray flinched, but the hit never came. Ray looked to see that there was a guy standing in front if him. The guy looked to be in his teens and had black hair.

The stranger smirked, making his scarlet eyes shine. “That was nothing…”

One of the men stepped back. “What the… we shot the guy! How’s he not dead?”

The stranger charged at the nearest man, knocking him off his feet, and making him pull the trigger. He shot his own comrade in the arm, making him drop his gun. The man was knocked out by the mysterious stranger with a simple blow to the head. The stranger kicked the other man, who was gripping his bleeding arm, sending him off his feet. The man was about to sit up when the stranger pulled out a knife and stabbed the man in the stomach. The man fell forward with a groan.

Ray put the girl down while staring at the stranger with wide eyes. “Who… are you? What do you want?”

The stranger shifted his gaze from the girl to Ray. “My name’s Sin. I’m here to make sure this girl, Sara Montblanche doesn’t die...”

Chapter 2 - Butler and Protector

Sara bit into her toast. She, along with Ray and Sin, were sitting around a large table. There were plates of food in front of all three of them.

Ray glared at Sin. “I don’t buy it. You say you’re here to protect her, yet you look just as bad as those thugs that broke in here...”

Sin stuck a fork in his scrambled eggs. “Well, it’s not your choice to make. I have a mission to protect her, and I’m going to do just that.”

Ray shook his head. “You say that, yet you fainted right after you told us your name.”

Sin shifted his gaze to Ray. “If you weren’t so pathetic, I wouldn’t have needed to take the bullet, now would I have?”

Sara sighed. “You two have been at it all morning. Can’t you at least have breakfast in peace?”

Sin looked back at his food and was silent for the rest of the meal. Ray kept glancing at Sin in between bites. Sara closed her eyes every time she took a bite of food. For the next half hour, it proceeded like this, until there was a knock on the door.

Ray stood up. “I’ll get it, Milady.”

In a matter of seconds, Ray had stood up and had walked toward the door. He opened it to reveal a man in a suit.

The man cleared his throat. “Excuse me, but I am here to inform you that since both proprietors of the Montblanche estate have unfortunately perished, that this estate now belongs to the government. All of the residents must vacate the premises. I understand twelve-year old Sara Montblanche lives here, thus she will be placed in an orphanage until we can find her a new guardian. That is all.”

Ray waited for the man to leave to slam the door shut.

He turned to face Sara and Sin. “It’s official… we’re losing the mansion, and you, Milady, are being sent to an orphanage…”

Sara’s eyes widened and she dropped her fork on the ground.

This screams anti hero.

I would say something else but nothing really happened.

But maybe you should wait until someone shows up who is not me.

OR Rinne since all s/he do is give you advice and disappear in thin air.

And you will never know if she is reading the fic ever again.

Like a ninja.

oxymoron: conjoining contradictory terms (as in `deafening silence')

original: being or productive of something fresh and unusual; or being as first made or thought of; "a truly original approach"; "with original music"; "an original mind"

fanfiction: unofficial, unlicensed fictional stories about celebrities or fictional characters, written by fans

...did I say all fanfics have to be Pokémon or Yu-Gi-Oh? No, I didn't. I've written a fanfic on the series, 'The Spook's Apprentice'. I think I know what classifies as a fanfiction, and unless this is actually BASED off a currently existing series, it isn't marked as fanfiction.
