BLEACH: The Jigoku Rebellion (Chapter 4 Really Up!)

Dr. Cakey

Recommended Posts

So, I was poking around and noticed there were almost no Bleach fanfics, and even fewer good ones. So I decided to whip one up. Just kidding, I worked pretty hard on this.

I'm going to go ahead and assume that everybody has a solid understanding of Bleach. If not, do yourself a favor and go to http://www.youtube.com/BleachDataBase. Anyway, this fanfic takes place at sometime roughly approaching something like the Fake Karakura Town Arc.

Oh, and if you're looking for Ichigo or any main characters, deal with it.

Chapter 1

Seireitei (Court of Pure Souls): 1st Division Barracks – Captain’s Meeting

“That is the business we have to attend to for today.” Captain-Commander Yamamoto finished. “Is there anything any of you want to bring up?”

Shunsui raised his hand. “Oh yeah, Old Man-Yama, there is something. I’ve been thinking…we need to replace our missing captains…it’s way too much of a burden on the lieutenants to keep things as is.

“Who could you possibly promote?” Mayuri snorted.

Shunsui shrugged. “Dunno. Anybody have suggestions?”

“Captain-Commander, I think one of your officers is ready to learn Bankai,” Ukiyake said, “if he hasn’t already.”

Yamamoto stroked his beard. “Ah, you mean 5th Seat Hokori Kikyo. Hm…you could be right. He has recently returned from a patrol mission. We will see about giving him the proficiency test within a few days.”

Seireitei (Court of Pure Souls): Captain Proficiency Test – Two Days Later

Hokori blinked and wiped the sweat from his silvery hair. “Captain Hitsugaya? It’s an honor.”

“Hokori, this is the last phase of the captain proficiency test. We will fight until the Captain-Commander declares one of us the victor. The rules are simple: you may and must demonstrate your ability in Zanjutsu, Hakuda, Hoho, and Kido. Don’t hold back – if you do, you will lose. Lastly…” he drew his sword, and Hokori did the same. “Good luck.”

The two locked swords, each one testing the other’s strength. Hokori went on the offensive, gaining space with a brief Flash Step before attacking again. Hitsugaya parried the strike, and swung his blade in a series of arcs, using its superior reach to keep him off-balance. Hokori tried to over-leap him, but Hitsugaya caught him in a bind in mid-air and sent him flying to the edge of the arena, raising a cloud of dust.

“Is that all?” he asked.

“Sorry.” Hokori replied from within the dust cloud, “Zanjutsu isn’t my strong suit. Hado 33: Sokatsui!”

Out of the cloud burst a stream of blue-white lightning, forcing Hitsugaya to dive aside. Hokori shot out right behind his Sokatsui, swinging his sword, but Hitsugaya was able to throw up his blade to stop it.

“Hado 11: Tsuzuri Raiden.” Hokori said, running crackling electricity through his blade to Hitsugaya who was forced to Flash Step into the air to escape the attack.

“Hado 31: Shakkaho!” he shouted, unleashing a burst of red fire. Hokori leaped aside, and Hitsugaya continued to unleash Shakkaho after Shakkaho, until he finally caught him in the burst.

“Ouch, I guess I shouldn’t have expected to be able to go easy with you, Captain Hitsugaya.” Hokori said, dusting himself off. He raised his sword and pointed it at Hitsugaya. “Ascend your throne, Zoge Megami!”

His sword lengthened and bent back on itself, becoming an ivory white bow. In a smooth motion, he loosed a shining arrow of energy.

“Hado 4: Byakurai!” Hitsugaya replied, releasing a bolt of lightning that collided with the arrow, which cleaved through his Kido and hit him, sending him flying back.

“Sit upon the frozen heavens, Hyorinmaru!” Hitsugaya shouted, an icy dragon pouring from his sword down at Hokori, who drew back his bow and loosed another blazing arrow. The two attacks slammed together, resulting in an enormous explosion of ice shards and crackling reishi.

Hitsugaya landed. “That’s a powerful zanpakuto you have. It’s strong enough to match Hyorinmaru.” He leaped into the air and whipped his blade in a wide arc, releasing a series of flowing dragons toward Hokori. He replied with a barrage of reishi arrows that smashed against the onrushing ice, creating a huge cloud of ice fragments between them.

Hitsugaya continued to release dragon after dragon, while Hokori’s arrows began to weaken in potency. With a quick Flash Step, he moved skyward to and created distance between himself and Hitsugaya, and launched a series of arrows off of the ground. They ricocheted off toward Hitsugaya, who Flash Stepped toward Hokori to escape. He fired another slew of arrows, forcing Hitsugaya to Flash Step again. Meanwhile, his first group of arrows deflected off the far wall in the direction of Hitsugaya’s newest location, who tried to escape by diving back toward Hokori. Hokori rapidly dropped altitude, putting Hitsugaya in the path of his second set of arrows, who desperately whipped an ice dragon around himself as protection.

Hokori waited patiently for Hitsugaya to emerge, letting Zoge Megami regain her strength. If he could keep this up, he might actually be able to do this.

“Bankai!” Hitsugaya shouted, emerging from his shield and diving toward Hokori. Hyorinmaru’s ice flowed over him, forming huge wings and an icy claw over his left hand. “Daiguren Hyorinmaru!”

He struck the ground with his blade, creating a huge spire of ice that filled nearly half of the arena. Hokori had saved himself with a desperate Flash Step, but his left leg was still coated with ice.

“Alright,” he said, catching his breath. “I haven’t tried this much, and I don’t know how it’s going to turn out, but…Bankai!”

Light flared out from Zoge Megami, surrounding him, he leaped forward toward Hitsugaya, who responded with a vast outpouring of ice. Their collision unleashed a huge explosion of energy that filled the arena.

When it cleared, both Hitsugaya and Hokori were on their knees. Hitsugaya’s wings were shattered, but slowly regenerating, while Hokori’s blade had unconsciously reverted to Shikai, where it was cracked along the handle.

“Enough!” said Yamamoto firmly. “5th Seat Hokori Kikyo, you have demonstrated your abilities well. I judge you worthy of the rank of Captain in the Gotei 13. Henceforth you will command the 5th Division.”

Featured Zanpakuto: Zoge Megami

HOKORI: Zoge Megami is my Zanpakuto. Its name means ‘Ivory Goddess’. Its release command is ‘Ascend your throne’. When released, it transforms into a pure white bow that can shoot arrows of pure reishi. I can cause any arrows I fire to bounce off objects instead of striking them – I even caught Captain Hitsugaya off-guard with that. In Bankai form, Zoge Megami becomes…well, that’s a secret.

Sure, I guess people can submit characters, but just know that it's a definite possibility that characters people submit won't end up being included even if I accept them. Here's a quick bio-sheet

Name:

(Who cares about age. Even Toshiro is like 100 or whatever...)

Description: physical and personality, etc.

Zanpakuto name/Shikai: (No Bankai. Deal with it.)

If you want to be extra-helpful, feel free to detail your character's abilities in Kido, Hoho, Hakuda, etc.

And now, on to Chapter 2!

Chapter 2

Seireitei (Court of Pure Souls): 5th Division Barracks - One Day Later

“My name is Hokori Kikyo, and from now on I will be your captain. I can’t claim to replace Aizen – I don’t have his skill or his experience – and all I can say is that I’ll do the best I can.” He smiled. “Well, on to the next order of business. We now have a new 3rd Seat: Hihana Yanagi.”

“You’re just lucky I’m not captain!” said a young woman with dark blue hair. She wore her Zanpakuto on her hip without any sheath.

“I thought it was you.” Hokori said with a chuckle. “Everyone, meet Hihana Yanagi, previously of the 13th Division, I believe.”

She grinned. “I’m surprised you remembered.”

“I have an impeccable memory. If you could take your place, I’ll begin. Now, as I said, I’m new at this business of being a captain, but I think I can do an adequate job of organizing our division. Firstly, I want to see a little of what everyone can do. Lieutenant – Hinamori, is it? – why don’t you begin?” he drew his sword.

“You want me to…fight you…Captain?”

“Well, yes, that’s the idea. Don’t worry, I’ll hold back. Oh, or are you afraid you’ll hurt me? Don’t worry about that, I - ”

There was a sudden jingle as a Hell Butterfly approached. Hokori held out his hand and it landed.

“Hollow detected in Rukongai. Repeat, Hollow detected in Rukongai. 5th Division, move to intercept.”

Hokori winced. “Oh, that’s bad timing. Well come on, we’d better get a move on! You can show me your skills in the field!”

He began to move without waiting for the rest of the division and paused, giving them a quick, “Form up and hurry!” before continuing.

Rukongai (Town of Wandering Spirits): District 11

The 5th Division arrived in the 11th District, following the directions of the Hell Butterfly. Several large Hollow had already emerged into the district, with more pushing out of a black portal. Hokori held up a hand.

“Let me thin them out a bit first. Ye lord! Mask of flesh and bone, flutter of wings, ye who bears the name of Man! Truth and temperance, upon this sinless wall of dreams unleash but slightly the wrath of your claws. Hado 33: Sokatsui!”

Out of his hand flared an enormous vortex of blue lightning. Suddenly, a huge pulse of dark green energy tore out of the portal, ripping through the Kido and negating it. The backsplash even took out several of the surrounding Hollow.

“What was that?” someone shouted. Hokori gritted his teeth.

“Cero. It looks like there’s a powerful Menos in there somewhere, or maybe even…” Arrancar, he didn’t say. “Come on. Split up three to a Hollow. Tobiume, Hihana, come with me; we’re going to stop the Menos.”

As the division split up to take on the invading Hollow, Hokori, Tobiume, and Hihana set themselves up around the unstable Garganta portal. Nothing emerged.

“Alright, let’s try this.” He said. “Hado 4: Byakurai!” a narrow stream of lightning shot toward the portal. It was met partway by a green sphere of energy that matched and eliminated it.

“That was Bala. An Arrancar technique. Let’s try giving them something to think about, then. Ascend your throne, Zoge Megami!”

His sword extended and bent back, transforming into an ivory white bow. Easily he pulled back on it and released an arrow of energy. Again, a green Bala flew out, but the arrow carved through the attack and continued, disappearing into the portal. No response.

Hokori pulled back on the bow again. “Wake up in there!” he said, firing a half-dozen arrows down the portal’s throat. This time, something stirred.

A jagged black sword extended from within and tore through the arrows before returning.

Hihana groaned. “This is taking too long. I’m going in!” she leaped into the portal before Hokori could protest. “Penetrate, Kusanagi!”

Her sword lengthened to nearly her own height and glistened with a pearly white sheen. Again the dark sword emerged, clashing against hers. She pulled back and attacked once more, this time with a fierce stab. When the black sword lashed out to intercept, hers passed right through it, attacking where she thought the owner of the sword stood. This time, a pale white claw reached out and caught her sword, hurling her from the portal.

“Ow.” She said, scrambling to her feet. “Whatever’s in there is really strong.”

Hokori shook his head. “Of course it’s strong, it’s an Arrancar. I’d feel a bit better if we had another captain to back us up, but…cover me for a moment, would you?” he pulled back for a moment, setting his zanpakuto aside. “Ye lord! Mask of blood and flesh, all creation, flutter of wings, ye who bears the name of Man! On the wall of blue flame, inscribe a twin lotus. In the abyss of conflagration, wait at the far heavens. Hado 63: Soren Sokatsui!”

He unleashed an enormous blast of twin Sokatsui, so large that waves of its blue energy splashed around the portal. As it ended, silence reigned. The rest of the 5th Division had finished clearing out the low-level Hollow.

“Did you get it?” asked Hinamori nervously.

A featureless voice echoed from within the portal. “Harvest, Guadańa.” A giant black scythe swung forth at Hokori. Hihana intercepted, trying to stop its arc with her blade. The scythe’s body clashed against her sword, but its curved blade bit deep into her sword arm, forcing her away.

“Tobiume!” cried Hinamori, launching an orb of fire. A white hand reached forth and deflected the Kido attack, before reaching further out and grabbing Tobiume. Dark power swirled and tamped down around it, crushing it into its sealed state. The sudden loss of power sent Hinamori reeling.

Hokori snatched up his zanpakuto and began spraying arrows. The scythe spun in a swift arc, knocking his arrows aside. He changed his grip to a one-handed one and drew the other back. “Bakudo 61: Rikujo -”

He felt a sudden pulse of power, and the Kido energy in his hand fizzled out. Panicking, he tried to Flash Step away and regroup, but his feet felt mired in mud. At the same time, Zoge Megami power was fading in his hand, and his mysterious opponent he was sure could sense it. For a half-second, Zoge Megami sputtered in its attack, and the scythe leaped forward hungrily.

Featured Zanpakuto: Kusanagi

FEATURED ZANPAKUTO: Kusanagi

HOKORI: I’d be worried about dying, but I’m the main character, so I should be OK. Anyway, Kusanagi is Hihana Yanagi’s Zanpakuto. It’s named after the sword used by the Shinto deity Izanagi. Its release command is ‘Penetrate’. When it’s released, it lengthens quite a bit, and gets some fancy red tassels, and it can…what does it do, anyway, Hihana?

HIHANA: Were you even paying attention to my fight? If Kusanagi’s tip hits any sword or armor, even something like an Arrancar’s Hierro, it passes right through without cutting. Its sword edge is a monster cutter; it’s as sharp as any captain’s blade.

HOKORI: Sliced right through that scythe, huh?

HIHANA: Shut up, I saved your ass.

HOKORI: Who’s the captain here?

Name: Yusuke Kazama

Appearance: Short black hair, wears his sheath on the right-side of his hip, has blue-green eyes

Personality: He's mostly silent, but gets along with his allies and when it comes to fighting, he accels greatly. Possibly great enough to become captain. His release command for his Zanpakuto is "Illuminate the darkness".

Age: 178 (on earth) 18

Zanpakuto: Akumagetsu (Akumagetsu: Moon Demon)

Zanpakuto Appearance: His Zanpakuto resembles half of a giant sharks tooth with the kanji "Soul" written on both sides, the guard has a torn-up red ribbon at the bottom, and the hilt is shaped as a hexagon.

Zanpakuto Abilities: "Hoeru no Yajyuu" (Hoeru no Yajyuu: Roar of the beast): This attack allows Yusuke to build up Reiatsu in his sword, he raises his sword in the air, then the Reiatsu releases out of the sword as a shockwave that reaches out 100 meters. When it hits the enemy, the enemy loses control of his/her 5 senses. "Oninami" (Oninami: Demon wave): This attack allows Yusuke to release Reiatsu onto his Zanpakuto and shape it into an oni demon head, then he slams Akumagetsu to the ground and the oni demon hed seeks out the closest trace of spiritual pressure in the area.

Kido:

Hado: Sokatsui, Shakkaho, Raikoho, Soren Sokatsui, Byakurai, Hiryugekizokushintenraiho, Hyoga Seiran

Bakudo: Rikujou Kouro, Horin, Shitotsu Sansen, Enkosen, Tenran

Your Japanese, especially for naming shikai and names in general, is horrible. Also, shinigami zanpakuto are always swords. A bow makes little to know sense in particular, because the Quincy already have that department filled. I would personally suggest a dual blade if you want to be unique.

Also, Gary Stu much? He becomes a captain in the first chapter without any development.

You're right, my Japanese is awful. If you or anyone else could help correct my Japanese, I would be very glad.

Second point: yes, zanpakuto are usually swords, and there are almost none that aren't (Those that aren't include Kazeshini, Gegetsuburi, and Nadachi). I like the idea of the bow even though the Quincy already use bows, and I did want to try to set Hokori out a little. Lastly, I pay very close attention to little details, and Yamamoto once stated that Ukitake and Kyoraku were the only Shinigami with dual-type zanpakuto.

Third point: My decision to make him a captain was actually secondary. Bleach, as well as other people, I think have cheapened Bankai, as opposed to Byakuya's statement that only once every few centuries among the noble houses would someone appear capable of Bankai. I'm tended to just quote that inner monologue, but I won't. Suffice to say, I thought that I couldn't have a character capable of Bankai and not be of something like captain-class. So yes, I will agree that he became a captain with no development, and I apologize.

That said, I would like to point that his Bankai is very incomplete, and he was only able to maintain it for one pass against Hitsugaya.

@Haou Devil 12: I forgot one thing, could you also post his Division?

Chapter 3

Rukongai (Town of Wandering Spirits): District 11

“Scatter, Senbonzakura.”

Glistening cherry blossoms danced with incredible speed before the oncoming scythe, gathering together in a pink shield and stopping it. Captain Kuchiki had arrived.

Hokori heard the roar of Sonido, and a black shape rocketed from the portal toward the captain, who was several feet away. In an instant, his blade reformed and clashed against the scythe as it ripped out to attack. The Arrancar didn’t stop its Sonido for even a second as it nearly flew around him, trying to hammer through his defenses.

Seeming to have had enough, Kuchiki Flash Stepped high into the air and said. “Bakudo 63: Sajo Sabaku.”

From his hand flew a chain of golden energy that wrapped around the Arrancar and stopped its Sonido.

It seemed to have wrapped itself in black wings, so that it was hidden within. Kuchiki landed and held his sword in front of him. “Scatter, Senbonzakura.”

His sword dissolved into a million cherry blossoms and swirled around the Arrancar in a vicious whirlwind. When it quieted, the wings were unscratched.

“Hierro.” Captain Kuchiki observed. “A very powerful one.”

The jagged black wings strained and tore through the energy chain. The Arrancar within was small, as little as one meter tall. She had grayish skin and short darker gray hair. Her clothes were white and ragged – different from the uniform used by the Arrancar under Aizen’s command. Her enormous scythe was as much as twice her height. Despite her enormous power, she had a haggard, diseased appearance.

“You cannot stop me, Shinigami.” She said, pointing her black scythe at Captain Kuchiki.

“You are not my equal.” Kuchiki replied, Senbonzakura’s cherry blossoms forming back into a blade. “Hado 4: Byakurai.”

As the concentrated blast of blue fire cut through the air, the Arrancar moved in a burst of Sonido back toward the portal. Hokori had come to his feet, and launched several arrows in her direction. Two of them struck her head-on, but she continued forward regardless. Her hand caught Zoge Megami’s edge and she flipped around him and into the portal, which closed as Zoge Megami collapsed back into its sealed state. Hokori felt his energy being sucked down, and his knees buckled, but he managed to regain his footing.

Seireitei (Court of Pure Souls): 1st Division Barracks – Emergency Captain’s Meeting

“The questions we must answer are these,” said Captain-Commander Yamamoto once Hokori and Captain Kuchiki had finished their reports. “How did the Arrancar enter Soul Society? And what are the loyalties of this Arrancar?”

“The Research and Development Institute had nothing to do with this incident.” Mayuri insisted.

“No one’s accusing you of anything.” Said Captain Komamura.

“Yet.” Hitsugaya muttered, too quietly for Mayuri to hear.

“Yes, well,” Mayuri continued. “The portal could not have been opened from Hueco Mundo. The Research and Development Institute has been monitoring the precipice between here and Hueco Mundo without stopping. Any Hollow incursion would have been detected and neutralized before they could even approach our side.”

“Would it have been possible for the attack to have originated in the human world?” asked Ukitake.

“Obviously not!” Mayuri said officiously. “Any being entering from the human world would require the use of an already-existing Senkaimon on our side. I’ve already double-checked the security logs from all Senkaimon, and the Hollow did not enter that way.”

“We will put aside that issue for the moment.” Yamamoto declared. “Captain Kurotsuchi, you will continue to research the matter. Now we must discuss the matter of the Arrancar itself.”

Hokori spoke up. “Judging by its power, it seems to have been created from an Adjuchas-class Menos. It seems to be an Arrancar separate from Aizen.”

“And what is your evidence for this?” Yamamoto asked.

“My only bit of evidence is its clothing; it didn’t wear the white uniform.”

Shunsui spoke up. “It looks like we’ve got a lot of nothing, huh? We should all take a nap and come back later.”

“There does seem to be little more we can accomplish at this time.” Yamamoto decided. “Dismissed.”

Hueco Mundo: Surface

The gray desert of Hueco Mundo flowed in a quiet wind. A Garganta portal opened suddenly, and the mysterious Arrancar drifted out. She allowed her Resurrecion to fade, her wings dissipating and her scythe folding into a sword.

“You’re here.” She said softly to the wind. For a long time, there was no response, then the sand nearby shifted, and a large Hollow emerged. It was slightly larger than an average Adjuchas (for that is what it was), and its form was somewhat like that of an armadillo. It had a reptilian mouth full of sharp teeth, as well as equal sharp claws and a long tail.

The Adjuchas began to sniff her with whatever passed for its nose. “It’s you.” It said in a voice like nails over chalkboard. “The reiatsu is different, but it is you, Cosechera.”

She looked at him wistfully. “You’ve gotten larger, Lagarto.”

He glanced at her black sword. “What happened to you? I thought you had died…are you - ?”

“An Arrancar? I think so. And I know what I can do with this power, Lagarto. I want you to help me.”

Well, I glanced at your first chapter a bit, and thought it was a BIT too fast-paced for me right now.

And in response to the arguement that Zanpakutou are always blades, this isn't always true, at least for Shikai and Bankai. Now, the RELEASED form is a bow, right? Omaeda's is a giant flail. Unohana's Shikai is A GIANT FLYING MANTA RAY. And isn't Love's a huge mace?

I think you see my point. And so, Rinne, you are not QUITE right. Since from what I skimmed over, the bow is a Shikai, and is thus not subject to that rule.

Oh, and it would be cool if somebody got a gun Bankai or something. Why bring a sword to a fist fight when you can bring a gun?

You're right, my Japanese is awful. If you or anyone else could help correct my Japanese, I would be very glad.

I'd be happy to. Just PM me if you need ideas.

Let me rephrase my previous statement. Shinigami zanpakuto are designed for close-combat, and usually have that taken into account. For example, even though Kazeshini can be whipped out on its chains, it's still a pair of kusarigama, and are supposed to be wielded by hand. My point is that a bow has no real way for fighting in close-combat, and the bows are the trademark of the Quincy. It's just too jarring with the entire shinigami concept.

Third point: My decision to make him a captain was actually secondary. Bleach, as well as other people, I think have cheapened Bankai, as opposed to Byakuya's statement that only once every few centuries among the noble houses would someone appear capable of Bankai. That said, I would like to point that his Bankai is very incomplete, and he was only able to maintain it for one pass against Hitsugaya.

Look at Ichigo. He couldn't even use his sword properly upon first usage, and yet look at him now. Readers will get more of a kick out of your story if you have them climb to the top instead of already starting there. Trust me on this one. Just because bankai is "cheapened" doesn't mean everyone and their grandma should have one. My suggestion would be to drop the fact that he has bankai entirely, and leave him with shikai to start with.

My overall diagnosis is to stop now and rewrite what you have now. You're a quick writer from what I can judge, and there's no problems grammar-wise. There's simply too many holes in judgment for this to continue at a stable level for any projection of time.

EDIT: Damn, forgot about Retsu. Dx

Still, the bow is one of the only things I'd have a real problem with. Actually, it's mainly projectile-based weapons in general, which is why I hate Soi Fon's bankai.

Sorry I haven't posted anything for a while. I'll be able to start writing again after February 1st, probably.

In the mean time, for your viewing pleasure, I present you with a glorious episode of the Arrancar Encyclopedia. (deafening applause)

Arrancar Encyclopedia: Pseudo-Arrancar

ICHIMARU: Today we're gonna be talkin' about Pseudo-Arrancar. Sometimes-

TOSEN: Ichimaru, you're needed at Las Noches.

ICHIMARU: Wait, why are you alive?

TOSEN: This story takes place before the Fake Karakura Town Arc. I haven't died yet.

ICHIMARU: Are we allowed to break the fourth wall?

TOSEN: It is on the path of justice. Now come with me.

ICHIMARU: Right, right. I'll find someone to sub for me. Bye bye!

So, it's after February 1st. And I haven't posted another chapter. My bad. See, I started watching Code Geass...

Yeah, big mistake. Between that and a Bleach filler arc that stopped being good the episode after it started, my interest in Bleach is...lacking.

I will start working on this again, probably over February break. In the mean time, here's my working draft of Chapter 4. I realized right after I'd finished it that there was something I really wanted to do in that fight and didn't, and it's not quite over, either, but...take a look.

[spoiler=Chapter 4 Working Draft]

Real World: Somewhere in a South American Rain Forest

The gates of the Senkaimon opened into the mist and green of a lush rain forest. Hokori stepped out, the rest of the squad he had chosen to join

him close behind.

“There are Hollow here?” he mused. “There couldn’t be any humans around for miles…”

He gestured for the squad to follow him, and they slowly made their way deeper into dripping jungle. According to Hokori’s Soul Phone, the Hollow was positioned not far ahead and was sitting still. Was it waiting for them?

They reached the position where it should have been and found…nothing. The trees were ringed around a clearing where only moss and other small vegetation grew. He was about to direct them to start a wider search when the ground began to shift.

A huge mouth, easily ten feet across, emerged from the ground. It was followed by the rest of its body, which was in the form of an enormous flower, like a rafflesia. The petals arched inward, sending the entire Shinigami squad toward the waiting mouth.

“Bakudo 37: Tsuriboshi!” someone shouted from above, creating a blue net that attached to the surrounding petals and blocked the mouth, saving the squad.

The petals began to close further, but this time Hokori was ready. “Bakudo 62: Hyapporankan!”

He hurled a rod of blue energy that multiplied. Instead of falling randomly, they lined up into a long beam that prevented the petals from closing further, buying the squad enough time to escape the trap.

“Thank you, Hinamori.” Hokori said, once he had climbed out. She didn’t have time to respond, as the petals squeezed, destroying the Hyapporankan. Out of the mouth emerged several thick vine-like tendrils that reached out to attack the Shinigami.

“Ascend your throne, Zoge Megami!” Hokori said, releasing his zanpakuto and unleashing a barrage of arrows. They struck the tendrils head-on, but they seemed completely ineffectual.

“Damn.” He muttered. “It must absorb reishi. We’ll have to rely on physical attacks.”

He was relieved to see his squad was able to fend off the attacks, but there didn’t seem to be any way to fight back. Suddenly, Hihana charged, swinging her released blade. It flashed in silvery arcs, slashing through three tendrils in one leap.

“Shoulda been captain.” She said smugly, spearing another oncoming tendril without looking, and moving on before he could come up with an appropriate retort.

The tendrils retracted, and the flower closed. From within issued a voice, surprisingly thin and reedy for such a large being.

“Your sword has a sting, Shinigami.” The Hollow said. “But I have experienced horrors you cannot imagine, and no mere pinpricks can kill me.”

So saying, the flower spurted out a purplish mist which began to settle around them. Guessing it was poison of some kind, Hokori tried to negate it. “Hado 58: Tenran!” he said, unleashing a concentrated tornado to scatter the mist. Suddenly, a tendril emerged from the ground and knocked him down, and smaller ones emerged to bind him in place. They too began to release the purplish mist.

Damn, he thought as unconsciousness claimed him.

He awoke in somewhere dark, muggy, and wet. Organic membranes were closed around him. The air was stagnant with dark power.

“You are a great feast, Shinigami.” The voice of the Hollow echoed within the sealed chamber. “You will join a thousand other victims in my body.”

He couldn’t move, could barely find the strength to breathe. He was going to die here, in the belly of a Hollow...

A burst of power surged through him. He didn’t know where it came from, or what it meant, but he used it. His ivory bow sang with uncontrollable power and he released a blazing, ten-foot arrow that detonated in an enormous blast that radiated out for dozens of feet.

When the dust cleared, only two beings were standing. The rest of the squad was scattered around, probably unconscious. Across from him was a rail-thin humanoid figure – the core of the Hollow.

“That power…where did you get it, Shinigami?” it screeched.

“I…” he panted, trying to keep Zoge Megami in his hand. “I don’t have a freakin’ clue.”

He raised a hand. “But I do know something…you seem pretty flammable to me…Hado 31: Shakkaho.”

The shot of fire was weak and wavering, but the core of the Hollow caught like dry tinder.

“Why!?” it howled. “I had been freed from my chains! Now -” Its soliloquy was cut short as Hihana’s sword whipped out, slicing it from stem to stern.

A light emerged from the wound, transforming into the towering Gates of Hell. Swung open by skeletal hands, a sword emerged, skewering the still-burning Hollow and dragging it within.

Name: Ryushiroi Kazekatai

Description: Muscular appears as he is 17 but is much wiser than he leads on. Is a brash decision maker, quick thinker. His skills with Shikai lead people to believe he has learned Bankai but is unknown. His Zanjutsu skills are unmatchable. His skills in the art of Kido are to be desired. Is an expert at flash step.

Squad: 3rd 4th Seat

Zanpakuto name/Shikai: Kurofenikkusu (means black phoenix) activation command "Rise from the ash!" The form of his shikai looks the same as Ichigo's Bankai blade but the hilt instead of a swastika it is two black wings. It's power allows Ryushiroi to move 10x faster than a Normal Flash step. His main attack in this mode is, "Kurohinote" or black fire. This attack is basically when Ryushiroi (or Ryu for short) cuts any part of a person's body it will immediately catch on fire and will drain a person of the Spirit Energy (Reiryoku), in that part of the body in a matter of seconds. When Ryu begins to run out of Spirit Energy he can absorb the Reiryoku drained by his Shikai's Power.

I was suddenly inspired to finish Chapter 4! Yeah, that came out of nowhere. Anyway, I changed up a few things, but the overall idea is mostly the same.

[spoiler=Chapter 4]

Real World: Somewhere in a South American Rain Forest

The gates of the Senkaimon opened into the mist and green of a lush rain forest. Hokori stepped out, the rest of the squad he had chosen to join him close behind.

-------------

He awoke in somewhere dark, muggy, and wet. Organic membranes were closed around him. The air was stagnant with dark power. He tried to move and found himself enfolded in dozens of vine-like appendages. He took an experimental breath and swallowed a mouthful of foul reishi.

“You will make a great feast, Shinigami.” The Hollow hissed. “Join the other souls that feed me…”

Hokori struggled uselessly against his restraints. Every time he breathed, the dark reishi suffused his body, and he grew steadily weaker. A thick darkness covered everything...

In the midst of the darkness he sensed a point of light…and another…and another. He was surrounded by thousands of lights, all twinkling in the smothering darkness. Each one was the remnant of a soul! Experimentally, he reached out with his mind, touching one. Nothing remained but a tattered bundle of emotion that whimpered confusedly against the darkness. The next one was the same, and the next. He got where they were coming from; already he could feel his physical body beginning to break apart. Eventually he would become a part of this abomination among Hollow.

Not yet, something whispered. A lance of light struck out, and the darkness fled before it, bathing Hokori in its uncompromising glare. You can still live. Break free from your chains!

“How?” he asked the light.

Set these souls ablaze. I will help you. The light replied. It blazed brighter, and slowly he became slightly aware of his physical body. He found he could move his right index finger. Slowly he moved his dry lips.

“Hado 31…Shakkaho.”

As he spoke, an alabaster hand reached out from the light and touched him lightly. A current of energy lanced through him, its power swelling and expanding like Bankai. The fire he released began as a pale candle, and exploded outward, catching on the points of light as though they were dry tinder. In a single instant, the fire enveloped the wholedarkness and put itself out.

Immediately, Hokori found he could move again. The tendrils that had restrained him were limp, and he pulled himself out, catching Zoge Megami in one hand. The interior of the Hollow remained mostly the same, but the overpowering stench of the digesting souls was gone. Everything seemed almost dead. In the darkness, he heard a rustle.

“I don’t know what you did, Shinigami,” the Hollow said, its voice edged with rage, “but it won’t save you!”

A segment of the Hollow detached from the wall and began to make its way towards him. It was humanoid, but seemed made from brittle twigs. Over the head was the customary Hollow mask, shaped in the form of a blooming amaryllis. This was the Hollow’s true body.

Quickly he raised Zoge Megami, firing off a number of shots in its direction. Just like the exterior body, the core absorbed the arrows without difficulty.

“You’re a poor match for me, Shinigami.” The Hollow snickered. “My body can absorb any amount of reishi that contacts it. If you’re only armed with a bow, you can’t kill me.”

Hokori smiled in spite of himself. “I have one little trick left…”

Gripping Zoge Megami in both hands, he charged at the slowly oncoming form. It reached out with branch-like hands to grab him, but he swung his bow, its sharp, curved edge cleaving through the brittle wood. The Hollow howled in pain.

“You know what they say,” Hokori said, leaping forward again and neatly bisecting the Hollow. “Shinigami always use swords!”

He jumped back from the dying Hollow and stumbled, falling on one knee. After everything, he was completely out of energy.

A light emerged from the wound, transforming into the towering Gates of Hell. Swung open by skeletal hands, a sword emerged, skewering the Hollow and dragging it within.

I don't have any great after-show feature, but this is one I put together for Tobiume a while ago.

[spoiler=Featured Zanpakuto: Tobiume]FEATURED ZANPAKUTO: Tobiume

HOKORI: Tobiume is the Zanpakuto of my lieutenant, Momo Hinamori. Its name means ‘Flying Plum Tree’, and its release command is ‘Snap’. When Tobiume is released, it straightens and sports two prongs that look kind of like jutte. She can shoot orbs of energy or fireballs from it, making it a very effective weapon, but it relies on her own spiritual power to use, meaning it can cause her to tire quickly. You can’t have everything, can you?
