Dark
I really believe YCM is dead, and I'd be happy to be proved wrong. I guess a new generation of mods would liven things up, but to what extent? And what if the next-gen mods get corrupt (ohemgee, he said the taboo word)? Then what? Another death-and-rebirth spell of YCM, again? All speculation here, but YCM is going down the hole, for lack of a better reference to allude to. All speculation here, but YCM is going down the hole, for lack of a better reference to allude to.[/quote'] The moderation staff really doesn't have a whole lot of affect on how "dead" or "not dead" the forum is. In the end, it doesn't really matter who's hitting the "Lock Topic" button when someone posts John McCain cards in the General section. The policy decisions don't change a whole lot either, with the possible exception of that RP rule that idiots keep whining about. It is pointless to debate with you whether YCM is dead because you have not explained how you are defining "dead" - or, depending on how you look at it, because you have not explained how you are defining "YCM" (and are arguing that "The YCM I knew is dead and was replaced by this horrible monstrosity that merely resembles YCM!"). From a purely objective standpoint, the website located at the URL http://forum.yugiohcardmaker.net/ has a large regular userbase and considerable amounts of daily activity, and is therefore not "dead", but you obviously aren't using these words in the way that everyone else who speaks the English language uses them, so arguing with you over whether "YCM is dead" is as sensible as arguing with you over whether "Mushroom obsidian potato-llama". Dark
Dark... The only sections dying out is... Well... None. Except maybe AoC' date=' less posts than normal there and thats saying a lot.[/quote'] There are multiple meanings of "dying" when it comes to a forum. You could take dying as less posts. So if I post 12642 spam posts a day in General, I am reviving it, right? I consider dying as a "lack of quality in 'common' members of a certain section". Let's take, oh, I don't know, Music, for example. And let's assume Opalmoon, Dismal, Polaris, Felix and Icy are the most active, prominent, and 'good' (in a sense meaning non-spamming, non-idiots, et cetera) members in that section. If Opalmoon, Polaris, and Felix leave for a one-month trip to Spain, the quality of the forum decreases, as there are less 'good' members in the forum. Thus, in my view, the forum is 'dying'. This also applies to new members. Let's say in 2001, for every 100 new members that joined, 2 members would 'grow up' to be 'good' members in the Music section. This is adding life to the Music forum, so to speak. The amount of quality members in a forum directly relates to the life of the forum. This can also mean the opposite, too. So let's say in 2001, for every 100 new members that joined, 1 member would grow up to be a 'bad' member in the Music section. A 'bad' member means a spammer, a flamer, a prominent troll, an idiot, or any combination. For every 100 new members that join, the Music forum is losing life because of this idiot. In a general sense, the forum is losing 'good' members, lacks an influx of new, 'good' members, and has an abundance of new 'bad' members. Which is my reasoning for saying the forum is dying. Hopefully that cleared it up for Crabby as well.
CinnamonStar
Well about the Music section, yeah it's true that it's the first to be affected by inactivity. Because most people don't care. I don't think the quality is going downwards (I mean generally, not one member daring to like the Jonas Brothers) but yes, it's true that if the really active people there can't be on for a while it's the first forum to be affected by a downtime. But I don't think overall the forum is going down the hole, there have been really worse times where we had a huge lack of mods.People like you will get bored of it, yes, or not like the people here anymore. But that doesn't mean it's going down the drain from everyone's point of view. There will always be new and good members, I can name a lot of them that joined not so long ago. (Can I be in YCM's next generation?=D)
Dark
Moderators don't really have much to do with the death/life of the forum, except for the fact that they have the banhammer and can stop idiots. Maybe I see this differently than others, but the forum seems to lack the quality it had, let's say, 6 to 8 months ago. And it's not only me, but a lot of old members have been complaining how YCM was better before, and now it's just... meh. And I didn't say good members STOPPED. This may be a crappy example, since he's not new, but Muluck is a good member. I'm just saying the amount of 'good' new members is going down, and the amount of 'bad' new members is going up. CinnamonStar
I know, I think that too sometimes but that's because we've been on the forum for a longer time... After a while time you'll get bored of anything (most things). But I do wish we could have more life-adding members in the Music section.D:
Dark
It's the lack of spontaneous and 'fun' members, is what I think. General is losing the spice it once had, and to me, Movies/TV, Music and part of Video Games is all dead.

CrabHelmet
During the two years I have been here, I have seen a topic about once a month declaring that the current YCM is dead and that it was much better six months ago and that everything has gone horribly wrong in the last six months. Despite this, I have never noticed any significant change in YCM's quality; it has always been the same as it ever was. Perhaps people just perceive YCM as getting worse because they run the YCM of half a year ago through a nostalgia filter when they remember it that makes it look like it was made of Jesus and chocolate, and modern YCM obviously doesn't look like that because Freddie Mercury doesn't post here. Perhaps people just tend to grow up and gradually realize that YCM has always been pretty bad, but conclude that the change took place in YCM itself rather than in their perception of YCM. Perhaps people just get bored and make up nonsense about how YCM is DOOMED to stir up some drama. In any event, I have never been impressed by any of the "YCM sucks now but it was awesome six months ago" topics in the past, I am not impressed by Dark's post today, and I will not be impressed in August when today is revered as the Golden Age of YCM before it entered its downward spiral. Yeah, I agree with this (I actually agree with the whole post, but I just didn't want to quote it all). The only reason I believe that YCM was better before was because the majority of my friends weren't either banned (Draco, Krow Haris- I guess that's it tbh) or have left (most of them; Slash, Jerry OldMaster, Icemasteralex and a few others).
