It didn't ruin the Anime/Manga because it's NOT a DragonBall Z Movie! It's a DragonBall movie. Totally Different' date=' and it's not even canon so it doesn't count. Let's just hope it never happens again....unless it's CGI animation...

My opinion on this movie is up in the air. First from a fan of Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball GT this movie was stupid, ruined the plots from the anime/manga and looks like it wasn't thought out. The actors in it sucked, they made Bulma stronger then Yamcha which was dumb, they didn't follow the plots that Goku killed his grandfather in his Ozaruo Form, and Their was never a woman that was with Picillo. WTF in the eyes of an anime/manga fan this movie very much fails.

Now on the side that maybe you've never read the manga or seen the anime, this did have a somewhat interesting plot, but no means awesome. The cast was still bad but could have been worse I suppose. The fighting was awesome and they had a lot of great special effects in the movie.

All and All I would give it a 6.5/10 rating as a Non-Anime/Manga fan.

As a loyal Fan for both the Anime/Manga I would give it a 2/10 merely for trying to make it a real movie and for the special effects/Fighting!!!

[spoiler=My review]

I knew this movie would be terrible. I really did. My plan was even to buy a ticket to Monsters vs. Aliens, watch that, then sneak in to this piece of crap, but my mom and my conscience told me not to. I ended up seeing this at an noon showing, which saved some money. Now I regret having to pay any money since I saw it on a flight back to Hawaii. There are so many places I can begin with how awful this is, but I'll start with how it compares to the source material.

It hardly does. It's like James Wong just picked up a vague plot synopsis of Dragonball and thought "Hey, I can make that into a movie". I will give it the credit of at least acknowledging how has what role and changing their names, but I'll deal with characters in a moment. I'm sorry, but an eclipse? Yeah, in Toriyama's Dragonball, you can use the Dragonballs whenever you damn wanted to. I honestly can't fathom why it was necessary to change the setting to such modern times, and in what is clearly supposed to not be Asia. I thought this was more of an attempt at film that was meant to fit in with the superhero genre, but let's discuss the characters, shall we?

Goku is easily the most obnoxious character in the movie, and it probably only liked because if you're already in a bad mood before watching this movie, just focus your anger on this guy. Justin Chatwin's acting is terrible, since when he tries to be angry, he's really not convincing. He is what mainly makes the film more comparable to a superhero film than a Dragonball film. He reminded me of Tobey Maguire of the Spiderman films prior to becoming Spiderman, only a lot more pathetic. Let's just take a hot-blooded character who's the target of many jokes regarding his intelligence, lack of education, and obsession with food and turn him into the a guy who is the target of many jokes at school for no reason (Okay, I can sympathize with that one. Still doesn't excuse him), has the stereotypical "get the girl" personality, and is a giant coward. If you're wondering who the worst main character in anything could be, it's this guy that goes around claiming his name is Goku.

Bulma is a jabroni. Yeah, I know blue hair would look really bizarre, but this movie was made by the people who made Mystique a blue-skinned nudist with really red hair. Yeah, don't think you're going to get away with including a couple blue strands of hair. I literally burst into laughter near the end of the film when she tried to use a Capsule Corp robot as a distraction and it just blew up. I will however admit that the Capsule Corporation stuff was awesome.

Master Roshi is easily to coolest character in the film, though that's still giving him too much credit. Sure, he was extremely over the top, but at least Chow Yun-Fat has talent. Pretty lame that they killed him off, even if he came back. I knew beforehand that his house wouldn't be located in the middle of the ocean, but when I saw how easily they found his house that was just thrown right in the middle of a city, my mouth was wide open and my arms where outstretched for at least in minute while I was in the theater. I am serious. Still, he was alright.

OH MY GOD YAMCHA. There is a reason they paired him with Bulma, he's so goddamn annoying. Usually I can tolerate accents, but come on.

Chi-Chi was actually quite tolerable, not to mention good looking. She deserves better than Justin Chatwin.

Piccolo. Yeah, do I need to say anything? He tries way too hard to show that he's evil, and even though he crushes the house on Grandpa Gohan, he doesn't just crush the vehicle everyone's in while they're chasing after him. He's like Aizen; he's shown insane power a few times, but doesn't use all that power when it really is necessary. Oh, and he's defeated so easily.

Overall, this movie is terrible. It has some good special effects, but with only two characters that are somewhat likable and a film that detracts from the source material so much that it has to steal the word "Airbending", I can't forgive it for even existing.

Final Score=2/10 Because of the very few redeeming qualities it has, that's the highest it will get.

I dont know what was going with this movies production but its obvious that no one was listening to the fans. This movie ignores the key points of the DB/DBZ series. The effects were not even that good. I mean the beam struggle at the end lasted 15 seconds! Its was really pathetic and I cant believe I watched the whole thing.

I just dont understand how you cant make a good movie adaption of anything these days. There is so much reference material to go through and they barely had the creator of DB involved with the movie. The actors were nothing, although I'll give credit to the guy who played Piccolo. He was decent and felt like the actual character. There wasn't enough explanation for everything and in just minutes you would be from point a to point b with much reason.

The Three things that really pissed me off were the Kamehameha and the Eternal Dragon and the Great Ape.

1. The dragon wasn't even big and he didn't even speak. Also the called him Shenlong. I know thats the original name but everybody know that Shenron has a nicer sound to it.

2. The Kamehameha (which I already went over.)

3. The Oozaru (or whatever) is suppose to be a rather large ape. IDK what the problem was with making a large CGI ape. I mean look at 2005 King Kong! If they didnt know how Goku would get his clothes back on then all they had to do was have a scene where he gets some extra threads. Thats IT!

Whoever made this movie was too lazy to make a structured story with a supporting cast and a decent time length. The movie was only 85 mins. You cant possibly tell a great story in 1 hour and 25 mins. You need at least 1 hour and 45 mins to do it right. Look at the Dark Knight, it was 2 hours of a good beginning, middle, and end with all the action, character development, and plot that you could ever want. Directors need to see that movie and take notes of how to do a movie the right way!

Okay Im done. ;)

Don't your think you're overreacting a bit? I mean the film wasn't terrible, it was average at worst but it had some redeeming qualities. They probably changed some aspects of the anime to give it some hint of realism like people not inexplicably gaining enough mass to transform into a fifty foot monkey and changed Gokus age so he is more identifiable to a teenage audiance that grew up with the show. Bulma was probably made to be more stronger than yamcha to conteract the lack of strong female characters in the Dragonball z anime. And remember they couldn't condence all of the stroy points in the manga into a 2 hour movie so some thing had to change. At worst i'd give it a five out of ten.

The movie wasnt even 2 hours. I just thing there was too much of a creative license taken with everything. I mean look at Spider-Man. There some originality but at the same time the core elements were kept and the film was great.

However, I think one reason adapting DB/DBZ to a film is because theres only one source. Comics usually have different series and recreations while the DB franchise has basically the Manga and the Anime but at the same time there was still too many bad moves taken in making Evolution.

Id rate this movie with nothing just because the basic were not even respected by the writers and directors.
