Yu-Gi-Oh! Reign of Chaos - Promising fangame?

Hello, some of you (alright, probably none of you) would know that one of my hobbies is game design.

I was thinking about Yu-Gi-Oh! games, and what direction they COULD go in, this has inspired me to (probably, depending on the opinions of you guys) to create a Yu-Gi-Oh! game.

Here are some of the ideas I've jotted down:

Basic 2D RPG style gameplay (Zelda, Final Fantasy, Chrono Trigger, etc...)

VERY Basic Map:

YugiohGameMap.png

Walk around map encountering different monsters in different parts of the map.

When you encounter a monster, you will face it in a duel, with your pre-constructed deck playing against their deck based on themselves (King of the Skull Servants has a Skull Servant deck, etc...)

Defeat monsters to get them as cards for your own deck.

The weaker the monster, the less Life Points they have.

Your life points carry on throughout different duels unless you heal.

Cities have shops where you can buy cards that you couldn't get by defeating opponents (similar to the card buying system in most Yu-Gi-Oh! games).

There will be side quests where you can find various items.

Items will mostly be Equip Cards, things that heal you (Red Medicine, etc...) or various other stat-aiding things.

You can catch viruses, like Flint, which will decrease your stats.

Leveling Up can increase Life Points, running speed, chance of going first, etc...

Some cities will have mini games, like Duel Puzzles.

There will be a day/night system, different enemies will appear at different times of the day.

Plot will have something to do with preventing the return of Chaos (BLS-EotB, CED-EotE).

While you must abide by the Forbidden list, opponent's decks would be reflective of when they existed (Bazoo Return would have 3 Card Trooper, etc...)

Just because they are the same Archetype, doesn't mean they would have the same decks (E-Hero Bubbleman has Bubbleman Turbo, D-Hero Disk Commander has Perfect Circle, etc...)

There would be many in-joke references to our Yu-Gi-Oh! community (A sidequest involving Shapesnatch stealing Kuraz's star is one thing I thought of).

In summary, an in-depth RPG with a Yu-Gi-Oh! theme. Sort of a mix between the game for Gamecube (Forgot what it's called) and the Tag Force games.

Opinions? Suggestions? I'm open for all!

P.S. I've put together a more in-depth storyline, but I'd prefer not to show it until it makes a little more sense.

like the basic game idea add cards from here and the game you frogot whats called is probably falsbound kingdom

Yeah Falsebound Kingdom, that's what I meant.

I don't know about adding fakes, Maybe from some of the well-established and known card makers but I won't take requests, it would become too much effort.

Also, I won't add EVERY card, that would take ages, I will probably only have ones that are actually used, so all of the vanillas in LOB and stuff will be cut.

EDIT: I've decided to go more in-depth on the areas.

I'd be interested in helping. What programing language are you using to make the game' date=' out of interest?

[/quote']

Probably GML, it's very easy to make RPGs on it.

I MAY use C++, but that's unlikely.

If you don't know that language though I'd of course be interested in sprite, sound effects, background music, plot ideas, etc...

Bit long to read but I will add that WC08 did something like it.

I see' date=' I'm sure this is much more in-depth than WC08's though...

GML, is that Game Maker Language? I can use that, I'll definitely be happy to help with plot and overall design.

Yep it's Game Maker Language, I'm glad you can help!

Well if you need anything graphical I might be able to help depends on how busy I am with other things.

Cool, the more help the better right?

I'd love to play this game if it let you play with all 5700 or so of the cards in the entire YuGiOh world. You know' date=' including ones that don't exist in real life, like the Seal of Orichalcos.

[/quote']

Like I said earlier, the only cards that will be in there are the ones that people will actually use, and I'm not going to put in cards if Konami have decided they are too over-powered (Seal, Counterbalance, etc...)

Sorry.

Okay to answer your questions:

a) It is probably more fitting in showcase, but it IS a game, so...

b) You get to the clouds and to space the same way you do in a lot of RPGs, nonsensical machines/magic. (NOTE: The Dark World isn't present on this map because it is in a realm of it's own).

c) I can't get sued for this, unless I make money out of it, it is no different from fanfics and fanart in that respect.

Also something I should probably mention, A lot of the stories present in the card game will also apply here, for example, Kozaky, Marauding Captain, Gigabyte, etc... All have their own little stories.

a.) If you weren't planning to make it a real game with others' help' date=' then it would belong in showcase.

b.) Okay. I should probably go appologize to my Jinzo, then.

c.) Why would you? It's non-prfit, non-commercial.

[/quote']

a) Okay.

b) Jinzo is probably very upset, tell him that I'm not ruling out the possibility of that idea or something similar.

c) Someone else asked so I explained...

Yay i love the gigabyte story

I like it as well XD

I'm gonna work on the list of cards that will be included in the game soon.
