The scariest videogame ever would be one that includes numerous internet memes.

If you know what I'm talking about' date=' you would agree.

that strangely doesn't sound terrifying at all. Some scary games I can remember are

Silent Hill 2 and other games with the same name to a certain extent.

Fatal Frame series

Yume Nikki can be scary in a certain sense, however it is messed up in 100% of the ways.

FEAR was pretty scary but than 2 came out >.>...(2 lost it's fear, guess it's just me)

Siren

can't think of many right now so meh.

You forgot some...

The Suffering Series

Dead Space

Resident Evil Series

But I think we have most of them now...

inb4lolno

lolno.

Anyways I was doing more subtle scary rather than pop scary, and I wouldn't really consider resident evil scary, but that's me.

Pfft. Don't make me laugh. Resident Evil isn't even remotely frightening, and Fatal Frame is in the odd position of a heartwarming, intelligently plotted "horror" game that stops being scary on account of its excellent characters. FEAR is so predictable, Earthbound is scarier (though admittedly, the Mother is quite scary — Gigyas and the mailboxes come to mind). Silent Hill is probably the second-scariest due to its obvious Freudian roots and exploration of human psychology.

The only video game ever to properly scare me, ever, is Yume Nikki. Besides the utterly horrifying implications Uboa, FACE, and the massive amounts of murder required to get through the game, one must keep in mind that a young girl no older than fifteen has though the entire game up on her own. You're then left to construct the horrible life that must have led her to become so horribly screwed-up at such an obviously young age. Oh, and good luck sleeping after meeting Uboa, the Thing with the Quivering Jaw and his attendants, the sewers, or the footprint passages.

Actually you can beat the game without using the knife once in Yume Nikki lol. But it's more disturbing rather than terrifying(imo). Also sometimes it's excellent characters can make terrifying moment.

I think that one of the things that a make a game scary is not knowing exactly what to do in a situation especially if it is a timed event. Theres nothing scarier than a clock suddenly appearing on the HUD and you have no idea what your supposed to be doing.

Also atmosphere and good voice acting is important in a scary game. Bad voiceacting (especially if its funny) can instantly kill the mood of a game.

music that should be in this game

river twygz bed(super paper mario)

giygas battle theme(earthbound)

dementors!(harry potter 3 gba version)

robo-patrick theme(spongebob:battle for bikini bottom)

What does this have to do with Scary Videogames? I didn't ask you for what music should be in a game' date=' what game? I asked what the heart and soul of a video game is, read the whole post. Seriously,

lrn2readfirstpostb4posting.

you said on the first post, create a scary 3d game, so I gave my opinion on the music that should be in this scary 3d game.

Music?

Painfully haunting. It would be a great addition if there were to be more environmental sounds like the distorted noise of glass/steel against concrete and whatnot.

Characters?

Good character development is a must. They need to really be driven and believable.

Setting?

Can't think of anything that isn't generic. Somewhere well-lit' date=' mysterious, and preferably just plain ominous (I say well lit cause you expect a random quadruped demon girl less in a well lit room than a dark corridor.)

Plot?

Something involving something where the main character can't/won't back out, and is driven to getting through this.
