Scariest Idea for a Videogame.

Sorrow.

Recommended Posts

So me and my friends were having a discussion. I asked my friends whats the scariest Video Game you ever played. Alot of people said F.E.A.R. which is also my scariest video game. And if you dont know what F.E.A.R. is look it up on youtube I am not going to give you a URL too scared. Anyways, then my friend thought of a brilliant Idea for a scary video game.

Make a Scary Video Game in 3D. It would make men tremble to the very core. It would be breath taking playing it in the dark night time ALONE.

I also want to ask you, what is the heart of a Scary Video Game?

Music?

Characters?

Setting?

Plot?

Discuss.

that's a good idea, however should not even be brought up until 3D is improved and surround sound system is a normal :P

Seriously with how 3D is now-a-days rather than scary it's more lolfunny. (see My Bloody Valentine)

However if this does happen I want to see them implement holophonics in the audio :P (see virtual barbershop)

Music? Plays a very big part in any horror game' date=' as it is required to create the atmosphere in which you feel safe and are then attacked by something, such as a madman or some kind of horrific creature. Overall, horror games wouldn't be as scary without it.[/b']

Characters? Depends what you mean by characters. Sometimes main characters can play an important role within the horror game of actually making it scary, but 1 thing you must do is make a scary villian. Without 1, your horror game(s) will fail, and so the game shall just be a waste.

Setting? Hmm... This is actually quite important to. Let's say you was in a field of flowers in the middle of the day. Wouldn't be very scary at all, would it? Now let's change it to a dead field at night. So much more scarier, wouldn't you agree? Setting always plays a big part in creating a horrific atmosphere.

Plot? All horror games require a good plot you can follow so that you can become more scared when you finally understand everything as the final piece of the puzzle comes together, an example being The Suffering. Only at the last moment do you find out the greatest enemy is yourself.

Overall, all of the things above create a horror game, and it is not possible to place 1 over the other. They are ALL the heart of a horror game, as all of them contribute in different ways.

Yes' date=' I agree alot Lopunny, is there anything else to a scary video game I missed? Theme is not important. I think I said everything that is the key to good Scary Video Games.

When I mean by Characters as in the Horror Creature or Man.

Pacing. When things should pop it, where they should appear, how the place look, how much you know, and how face should it take for you to find out. If your story doesn't have good pacing then it can be scary but most times no.

Example F.E.A.R which is scarier for the little girl to pop out. When you're walking down a dark sewer-way by yourself which music can be described the embodiment of darkness and nothing and she pops out.

Or you walking down the street in a giant mech followed by your squad shooting down monsters with industrial music and she pops out. Chances are the former, hell you might not even notice the girl.

===

Characters, it all depends on what type of horror are you going for.

Pop-out horror. Monsters and mixed-humans usually work better.(ghosts, freaks, zombies, etc.. also fits in.)

Atmospheric/Storydriven horror. Humans and if you notice if not most often the villian is something the community would view as innocent.

- A child

- A girl

- A lonely person

- A family member

- Teddy bears

- Toys

- Children laughter.

You have no control horror. (I dunno what it's called but usually when you have no power or limited power and you are being pushed to the edge by something) it's usually a murderer, a genius, a crazy person, can-hear-no-see people, etc..

The characters should be based on the story, and at the same time your story should be based around your characters. The characters(especially for atmospheric) should relate to the gamer, it doesn't have too, but if you are connected to your character. It's all the that much more worse.

Or as Yahtzee would put it in his review of Condemned 2

"There's a final boss sequence condemned 1 that pulaces you in a dark claustrophobic labyrinth with the serial killer in hot pursuit, It's really intense and generally terrifying. Part of what makes it so effective is that it takes place in a normal house like oh say for example yours! Right down to the psychotic serial killer who lives under your bed who's standing right behind you right now but don't look 'cause that'll really piss him off."

((Hopefully this can be understandable))

@Freestyle. It's terrible, if anything it is what you should NOT do with a horror game.

The scariest videogame ever would be one that includes numerous internet memes.

If you know what I'm talking about' date=' you would agree.

that strangely doesn't sound terrifying at all. Some scary games I can remember are

Silent Hill 2 and other games with the same name to a certain extent.

Fatal Frame series

Yume Nikki can be scary in a certain sense, however it is messed up in 100% of the ways.

FEAR was pretty scary but than 2 came out >.>...(2 lost it's fear, guess it's just me)

Siren

can't think of many right now so meh.

Weegee, Malleo, The Pedobear, Giygax, and Screamers.

yeah but aside from Giygas and Screamers. None of those are really scary. =V and if you do it in meme form it becomes less scary, unless the meme itself is inheritably scary.

music that should be in this game

river twygz bed(super paper mario)

giygas battle theme(earthbound)

dementors!(harry potter 3 gba version)

robo-patrick theme(spongebob:battle for bikini bottom)

What does this have to do with Scary Videogames? I didn't ask you for what music should be in a game, what game? I asked what the heart and soul of a video game is, read the whole post. Seriously,
