Umbra
It's the beginning of the end. You are one step closer. It's the beginning of a floodline. Tokyo, Shibuya district. On the surface, a lot like any other fashion-centered district in a capital. But beyond it... lies the Underground. A land of the dead, where lost souls desperately battle for a second chance at life. They are players... in a game of death. The Reaper's Game, controlled by the almighty Composer. Recently, Shibuya's Underground has been drastically altered. During the last Game, which was the third Game in a row, a first-time for many Reapers, a Higher Reaper called Sho Minamimoto released Taboo Noise into the Underground. Normally, Noise - beasts that dwell in the Underground and are directly controlled by the Reapers - aren't much of a threat and won't attack unless provoked or directly ordered. Taboo Noise, on the other hand, attack on sight. With them comes a radiation of dark energy, which itself converted Noise and even Players into Taboo versions of themselves. The Underground was sealed away for several years... but due to it's nature, the Game must continue. The Shibuya Underground is now called The Plaguelands, and drastically differs from it's twin in the real world. The roads and buildings have succumbed to the Taboo radiation, and fallen apart. While the Reapers abandoned the Underground and withdrew into the Dead God's Pad, the Players still kept coming. Some of them died again, either by the Taboo Noise or by the very radiation. Some didn't. Now, the Reapers have decided to start the Game officially again. The stakes have changed, and the Players must change equally in order for some chance of survival. The pin system has been abolished entirely, thanks to a clever notice by High Reaper Koki Kariya. Every now and then, the Reapers would send in an investigative force into the Plaguelands, and one day they came back with something interesting. One of them was terribly affected by the Taboo radiation, and had been hurt by a vicious strike - he was on the brink of elimination. Kariya, and everyone else, knew he would be dead by dawn.Today, that Reaper is an A-class Harrier. The team reported of a “clear zone”, an area which had somehow repelled the Taboo infection, and brought a sample from that area's soil. When Kariya had examined the sample, he came to a shocking conclusion. As it was now, the Reapers were mere prey for Taboo Noise, and many were the Reapers that had been killed by them. What Kariya had uncovered would save them all. A celestial entity feeding off Taboo Noise, killing them in a matter of moments. What's more, it absorbs the abilities of what it kills, making it grow stronger and stronger. Dubbed “White Noise Vaccine”, the entity is grown in large labs beneath the Reaper's Pad and injected into all new Players. Subsequently, the Players gain all traits of the entity and gain all abilities of whatever Taboo Noise they can defeat. You are a Player, recently injected with the White Noise Vaccine and released into the Plaguelands. Changes• The Underground is now dubbed “The Plaguelands” and no longer hosts normal Noise. All Noise that existed in the game now have a Taboo variant, and no normal variations.• The shops are no longer functional. New clothes and equipment can be acquired at the Dead God's Pad by completing missions.• The game is no longer divided in Days, but still lasts for a full Week before a Winner is selected. As it lasts for seven Days and seven Nights, it should be noted that Taboo Noise are significantly stronger during the latter.• The Reapers are no longer hostile.• The Dead God's Pad replaces the Scramble Crossing as central quest hub, and is now accessible at all times. • Players no longer use Pins in combat - instead, they can obtain powers from the Taboo Noise they defeat through the White Noise Vaccine. The Reapers' WNV colony already possess a Basic Attack power and one additional power of your choice. You won't go out there unarmed.• The entirety of the Plaguelands is not unlocked from the beginning - you will only be able to the Green Tier (see map below) from the start. By completing special missions, the characters will be able to unlock new regions. [spoiler=Danger tiers - Color Coded for your Convenience] • In addition, there are Dungeons hidden around the Plaguelands. Dungeons are special missions that must be completed in larger groups, preferably four people or more, but provide better equipment and may even unlock special regions if they are completed. In the Green Tier, there are no less than two Dungeons, and in it's entirety there will be at least eight.
