Super Smash Bros. Brawl Review

Nobody can deny that Super Smash Bros. Brawl is quite possibly one of the greatest games in existence. The most anticipated game of 2008 did not disappoint, and had the honor of being one of the 2 games rated 10/10 by Nintendo Power Magazine, and I am here to tell you my personal opinion.

STORY: B

The game is famous for its in-depth story, although I found it to be unneccesary for the game's appeal. It revolves around a mysterious phenomenon known as Subspace, and the race to defeat Taboo, apparently the overlord of Subspace, before the entire world is consumed. It was quite un-understandable, due to lack of dialogue. Besides that, though, it was well thought out.

GAMEPLAY: A

Brawl uses the same gameplay as its predecessors: Instead of a health meter (Although this is an option), they have a damage precentage. Each time they are attacked and it increases, the knockback gets higher until they are flung smack out of the arena for a KO. There are several modes, such as Classic (The single-player mode from the original), Adventure Mode (See "Story"), and All-Star (Think "The Arena" from Kirby Super Star). There's also a robust Multiplayer mode, and that's where most people will spend game time.

DIFFICULTY: A

Come to think of it, I haven't thought about difficulty until now. Really, the bulk of the difficulty comes from the last level of Adventure Mode. If you want, you can adjust the difficulty of your opponents, and there are several options that increase difficulty, albiet indirectly. There isn't really a set difficulty.

PRESENTATION: A

Like its predecessor, Super Smash Bros. Melee, there is huge attention to detail, from the rust on Olimar's ship to Tails popping up in the background of Green Hill Zone. I don't feel I should say much else.

SOUND: A

If I could choose one thing about this game that is the best, it would be the music. There's an all-new system that allows you to adjust the music that plays on their respective stages. You could even turn some off completely (And I swear I will NEVER listen to "Seven Rings in Hand" ever again). As for sound effects, the voice work is good, and the sounds are actually quite addictive.

FINAL OPINION: A

If you were stranded on a desert island with the ability to play any one game, I would recommend this. Or Tetris, either one works. Seriously, this game is the bomb! Everybody who owns a Wii should run out and get a copy right now if they don't already have one.
