Master Red
Yes I know, I know I already have a pokémon RP up and running but I can't get this idea out of my head and thus I have decided to try to work something out with it :P So basically I want to do a pokémon RP in a school setting, starting in year 1 (characters are 9 - 11 years old) and either ending upon graduation or continuing on afterwards, but that'd be a long way down the road anyways :P The challenge for the RP however, would be to create good plot lines that still contains the characters to the school grounds or in the near vicinity of them, something I'm not doing to well with by myself at the moment. What I've done so far for the sake of the RP is to write an introduction as well as coming up for some quirks to make the RP a bit different. One example being that the starter pokémon will be assigned by a host, not chosen by the RPer (they may ask for a specific type of pokémon though as long as it's not dragon, ghost or steel typed). I am also considering to have a no catching policy for the RP (at least up until year 3-4 or something) and that all pokémon will be assigned by a host in the same manners like with the starter pokémon. Again, I'm only considering that last part. So yeah, I seem to be getting a lot figured out except for the really important part, THE PLOT! -_- if anyone cares, here's the draft introduction I've written for it. [spoiler=Introduction]Pokémon Tech, the prestigeous boarding school for aspiring young trainers located just outside of Viridian City! Here young children that do not have parent's permission or doesn't want to set out on their journey just yet come to study pokémon related subjects as well as normal subjects, graduating with both a High School Diploma, a Trainer's License and a letter that will qualify them for the pokémon league with only four badges. These perks are of course attractive to many parents as it will ensure their child getting a solid education as well as them being able to learn more about pokémon in a safe environment. Children are sometimes not as excited about going if they'd rather have started their journey but even those who were reluctant to start most often come around quite quickly and most graduates are happy that they attended the school instead of setting out on their journey at such a young age. You are a new student enrolling to the school, if you are excited about the whole thing or not is up to you but if you're not, then we really hope that you'll come around shortly. These next nine years will be filled with classes, friends, homework, adventures, tests, love and unstable voltorbs!

fenrir
@Lady: What Hydra said. Make them have a larval form that eats cars or something. @Red: The idea is interesting considering the scale of it, but that would be REALLY, REALLY hard to pull off without some commitment and/or time abuse. I do like the idea of 'randomized starters; when the owner gets to pick what you get, it tends to be a lot funner. Not only that but when you get something you didn't want/expect, you see it in a different light. I was never a fan of the Pokemon line Magnemite, for example. One day my friends and I were doing a nuzlocke with randomized starters, I got Magnemite. Since that's what I was given, in every Pokemon game onward whenever I caught a Magnemite, I would always see it as an 'old friend'. It went from one of my most hated Pokemon lines to one of my favorite. So yeah, that's definitely a good idea. In terms of ideas, throw in as much field trips as you can. Have the Pokemon Biologist teacher constantly take the kids to different locations, and emphasis on the relationships between Pokemon and people over just "Hey a Pokemon! I'm going to battle/capture/run away from it!" It would be interesting to see, for an example, the kids get lost in a forest and one of them befriends a Pigeot, which leads them out. Or something along those lines. ...Huh, that turned out to be longer than I wanted.
Master Red
Yes that's exactly what I thought about the whole randomizing pokémon thing too, glad to see that someone agrees with me on that point because I was kind of expecting "RAWRAWRAWR I DEMAND TO HAVE MY FAVORITE POKEYMANS RAWRAWRAWR!". I know it would take a whole lot of dedication and time to pull it off, but I'm sure that if I could come up with good plots and had great Role Players in the game it wouldn't be an impossible task and it could even turn out really great. I mainly find myself intrigued with the idea as it would be quite an experiment dealing with character development and the chance to follow a group of characters from being young children and up through puberty (and maybe up to adulthood if it would continue on after graduation). Hmm, well I've started to get some ideas and stuff for minor plots. Now I just need to come up with major plots as well because having just mini plots won't work out in the long run methinks :/ care to work on this with me btw Rarity? I think it's obvious that I need at least one other brain for this and I tend to work better when I can bounce ideas between mysekf and at least one other person :)
Twig
@Red: It's hard to have a major plot contained in school. Really, the first thing I would think of is a Pokemon thief. The thief would steal pokemon little by little, so the mystery lasts longer. It's pretty much students getting Pokemon stolen, everyone suspecting each other, and all that mystery drama. And I too am interested in this random Pokemon starter. Surprises are fun. =D
Master Red
Yeah, me and Rarity have been discussing the RP a lot and it will probably be a very open RP mostly consisting of "sub-plots" and concentrating on the school life itself. We will probably have more major plots later on in the RP but in the beginning it will be more easy going with small missions etc. :) RPers will also be allowed to come up with their own sub-plots but this has to be discussed with a host first and be approved ofc ;P Oh I'm glad that the randomized started thing is working out so well ^^
Blackstone Dresden
So, I'm thinking of having a Digimon/Pokemon RP (Not both, but I'm not sure which mons franchise I wanna use yet) focused on the aftereffects of either every mon waking up with total amnesia or just a select group of mons like that (Again, I don't have a lot hammered down yet). The plot would basically follow a group of mons and their quest for their memories because they've all been "pulled" in the same direction by their subconscious minds. Any thoughts? Frybread002
Ahahaha!! I personally hate cutting people off from their sentence, so before I start mine, I'll give my opinions on those who came before me: Hmmm...towards Mister Red here, I think it sounds like a very genric role-play, where as a role-player, I'm just basically controlling my school life with real no clear direction or goal. With that in mind, it's kinda bleak and it doesn't really appeal to an averge guy like me? For example, what are the things that will draw the reader into the story in the first-place? Some cat living in the vending machine claiming he's god and it's your job to give him all the love he wants? Stuff like that. I don't know what I'm doing, besides comming up with sub-plots in hopes that someone will actually help me with my own sub-plot, without me harming somebody elses story-line. Hopefully I'm not being too harsh here, hehehehe...*straches head in embrassement*. ========================================================= Alrighty Dresden, just like Mister Red here, it's lacking things that catch my eye here. However, there is one thing I would join based on the infomation you have given us. Amnesia. Like, having everyone lose their memories for a plot is really catachy and quite original from the plots I have heard in awhile. Heck! If I was a TV producer, I would make that the main-storyline. The main characters looking for their memories. Aside from that, it sounds like you are just missing some basic plot structure (I.E. bad guy vs. good guy and stuff like that). Hopefully that helps. ========================================================= Okay, time for my idea: Alrighty, over the course of 10 months, I have been working on this story-line solo, and so far, I like to believe that I got every major piece of infomation down. However, one of the major issues I have been facing while working on this, was that I really don't know how the flow of the story should go. Like, I don't have no real set of main characters, because I was working on this on my own, so I had no second mind to work with, which left clueless on how I should deal with possible and different scenarios. If anything, the main issue I was having trouble with, was how to make the Antagonist. Before I go any further, I think it would make a lot of sense to read the plot. [spoiler=F.A.R. [Fully Automated Robots]]The year 2020, a video game developer/ story writter named Erin Farley, created a story where players control Mechs to fight other players, created his fantasy dream, with a game called F.A.R. (Fully Automated Robots). In the year 2135 A.D. F.A.R., Now a Massive Multiplayer Online game (MMO) has become very popular with the world, where you control your own Mech, and battle against other Players, and their Mechs, via. Internet. But F.A.R. has been attacked by an violent Virus, where it not only disrupted matches between other players, but also caused DATA lost, and corruption to the system. Where it attacked not only the game's CPU, but used it as a home base to attack any other major CPUs across the globe, such as Russia, China, and the U.S. To counter this, the United Nation, or U.N. put a ban on the very popular MMO game. But the owners of the game protested, declaring that they can handle it.Was banned anway, not only because of the very violent attacks from the virus, but also because of an Nuclear bomb threat that the Virus is capable of firing, and they banned it suddenly. With the sudden banned, many players, experienced, and inexperienced alike, were trapped (only their minds though). Now in this hostile enviroment, it is up to the players to possibly stop the virus, and save the world. But for those are not in the game, they provide technicle serivces. Okay, I think the only person who would recognize this, is Fiendish Docter Hydra here, since he was the one who was giving some brief help on it, about a year ago. So I thank him for helping me get back on my feet. With that in mind, this was actually my first role-play, and I just want to expand on the intial ideas and plots from the original role-play. For example, I had realzed that there has to be a "Cause" for the virus for being launched. All I got was just some terrorist group (I seriously hate using that word to explain, but it's all I got. Apologizes if I offend someone) launched the virus for some ransom. But that isn't enough for to make an fully solid plot for the people who do apply. With that in mind, it's really just waay to hard to plan something for millions of people to enjoy, if I am doing this on my own. So I really appreciated if somebody would give their feedback on this. Because I don't want to make an eye-sore of an role-play, where it only makes people confused and angry. Please let me through. Out of the way please* Anyway (and I was rather serious about that. I think I am the only person that everyone seems to ignore...): Hmmm...By the looks of it, this is your first role-play correct? Hahahaha, this reminds me of when I was planning carefully for my first roleplay!! Hahahaha!!! (It should be noted, I have only two so far, and I think they both rather successful). Okay, I'm on terms with Lady here (Lady is actually guy if you GUYS didn't know that), this isn't a place to advertise (of course I purposely done it too just to annoy Lady here) any of your role-plays. It's too discuss your ideas for it. So with that in mind, you can't simply say "Hey! My role-play is failing even after I've done all of this and that!! Why does it fail!?" Stuff like that, hardly any of us can even answer. However, since you are rather new, I feel empathy since I was trying extreamly hard myself to make an successful roleplay, so I'll let you on some important key tips: Okay, depending on what kind of role-play you have (pop-culture or original), it would depend on the common trend of YCM and time of when you post it. When I posted my first role-play, I'm guessing people joined because people were interested in virtual reality games and mechs, because that's what my role-play was all about. Virtual Reality and Mechs. When I launced my second role-play, it was with the help of Codename:Lady, The Swift Assaulter, and Merciful Iliaster, and it was launched when the YCM role-play fourms was not having any Kingdom Hearts role-plays. Making us, having the first role-play about Kingdom Hearts in 6 months or something. So with no real Kingdom Hearts role-play around, the timming for us to launch it was perfect because there was no competition among Kingdom Hearts roleplays. Now, I did looked at your role-play, and it does seem rather interesting. But, it's been like about 8 years since I did watch DBZ, I personally am not into DBZ as much. But that's just me. With that being said, I could go on, but I think it would be wise if you yourelf did your own little researching. ((Just to annoy Lady here...EVERYONE!!! YOU CAN SEE MY FIRST ROLE-PLAY BY EITHER GOING TO MY SIGNATURE OR BY FOLLOWING THIS LINK!!!! IF YOU DO CLICK IT!!! I WILL BE LAUGHING VERY, VERY HARD AT YOU!!!! MWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!)) But what about dA? 2.) Kekekekekeke... 3.) OIE!? How could you say that friend? Aw, shucks...I dunno, I guess it's my soft side of the Heart. You had given me a big break when I applied for my first role-play (the irony was that it was lock the very same day), and Fiendish Docter Hydra helped me with my very first role-play. So using what you'd just said, where does that put me? Did I have potential when I first showed up? Or was just a burdern to everyone else? If anything, I personally hate being single out for being the new guy, whether it be sports or a club, I just can't stand being looked down. So that's my incentive to help everyone as much as I can. Hmmm...Shoots...Before I end up killing this thread by going off topic; So does anyone have anything to say about my ordeal...or am I just gonna sink and drown? Anyone? Anyone?...guess not... Dwarven King
Oh! I found it! I honestly have no idea how I missed such a big post. :< MY THOUGHTS/SUGGESTIONS Virus - I have TWO thoughts for who created the virus and why they released it. THOUGHT #1: The Illuminati (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Illuminati) The Illuminati have done their best to influence world events to better the world. However, in their opinion, things are going from bad to worse in the world. So they have decided they are going to wipe the slate clean and run things THEIR way. At first they were going to infiltrate spies into other countries to gain access to nukes. But, that plan would be nearly impossible to go through with. So the decided to create a virus that would run off the new popular game to gain direct access to nukes for their use. Now that the game is banned, they are doing their best outside of the game to get it unbanned, while trying to protect the virus in game. THOUGHT #2: Aliens. Yep, I said aliens. There is a race of intelligent beings on a planet we have yet to discover. Unfortunately for them, their planet is dying. They have done everything possible to save the planet but have failed. It's like trying to save a person who had his heart ripped out and the nearest doctor/surgeon/hospital is an hour away. It's not going to happen. So they have decided to inhabit Earth. Except the human population is HUGE and there is not enough room for the aliens to live WITH us. So they decided to secretly plan a virus into the new popular game and use it to gain access to the defenses of all the countries of the world and clear the path for their race. But now the game is banned, so they are stuck trying to protect the virus while trying to figure out how to get the virus to do it's job. Those are just some rough ideas. You can add PLENTY of details to them if you decide to use them.

Clearly someone isn't familiar with how competitive Pokemon works. Look Fry, this guy doesn't know what he's talking about. I'm going to be very blunt with you, if someone says 'you have potential', then stop listening. You don't need to show them you have potential, you need to show them you have the ability. Don't listen to others for plot advice unless you really need it, from what I've seen you seem to be fully capable of making your own RP, so ignore him and do your thing. I'm sure you'll be fine. Something you don't need. A standard such as Flamethrower is fine. Either way, my point is this. When in reality there is no set way to play Pokemon, merely preferences. I find someone telling others to do something in a specific way silly. Joking or not, I felt like I should add my opinion. There are far too shitty half assed cookie-cutter RPs nowadays, and as a vet of this sub-forum I feel like I should get off my ass and tell people what's wrong with them. If you have a problem with it, then I point you to the fan-fiction section. Read the 'Jack Witt' clause and then come back. He asked for advice, yes, Lady posted some stupid s*** trying to sound like he knew something. That isn't advice. I respond telling him that if he wants to get 'somewhere in this forum', to ignore people like Lady. And just so this doesn't become a rant, I'm going to give YOU advice. Go with the Illuminati. Aliens is too cliche for an RP like that, and it makes it seem like you actually gave your RP thought instead of using something that has been rehashed over and over again. What you have so far gives them their own 'flavor' of sorts for your RP, making it a bit unique. That's good.
