I have SEVERAL ideas for new RP's that I want to try out' date=' but I'm not sure which ones will realistically work out on this forum.

Idea 1. An urban fantasy (think Supernatural, The Sorcerer's Apprentice, Doctor Strange, etc.) based on a series called The Dresden Files (using the same terms but using 0 canon characters). The plot basically deals with the fallout of the vampires vs wizards war and the ensuing power vacuum created.

[b']Unless the series is well known, like Naruto or Bleach, you will have to deeply explain it and possibly do more "campaining" to get people interested

Idea 2. An RP where your character either can shapeshift into an animal form (or a hybrid form), or has the ability to manifest a force of nature (ranging from a 100% transformation or two a humanoid version of your force). The setting will probably be modern post-apocalyptic unless someone has a better idea, while the plot is pretty much survival, with the former playing the antagonists, not so much villains as people driven partially insane from exposure to an unknown substance, which will be revealed if the story progresses far enough.

Though this sounds interesting I think you would have to change it a bit for people to get interested.

Idea 3. A medieval RP focusing on two empires, one realistically "good" the other unrestrained corruption, where the citizens have been turned into soldiers (men aged 16+), slaves (everyone else) armored in solid evil, and the good empire is forced into a war, led by three mysterious individuals (all three controlled by me).

So far the best one I've heard, but it has too many cliches for my taste. Possibly changing it would make it more original and a lot more interesting to prospecting rpgers

I have several others, but these are the most developed ones I have so far

1. The series is a NY Times bestseller and had a show on Syfy (back when it was Sci-Fi), and it's the origin of my username (and my avatar) but yeah, I know what you mean about that, which is why I'll have a spoiler box for terms, definitions, etc. and a link to the Wikipedia articles on the races/organizations in the series

2. What do you recommend that I change?

3. That RP actually is the first RP I ever thought of on my last site, it never got made but it served as a fluid backstory for my three dozenish premade characters, and I'm trying to get it to come to fruition already
12:00 AM, December, 21 2012. The day the Mayans predicted the world would end. Someone really should've told those arrogant bastards to shut up about stuff like that...

I was on Christmas break, at a bar getting plastered since I was gonna be dead for the hangover anyway. After my fourth shot of tequila, everyone, including the bartender, our DD, and the house band, started getting woozy... I woke up a dozen hours later on the floor with a stampede of elephants trying to bust out of my skull and a crescent moon shaped tattoo on my right forearm. That part should really have tipped me off that things were going off the deep end, but I was too busy trying to convince someone to stop shooting every time water dripped into the sink. I splashed my face with some cold water and downed three or four aspirin tablets before going to find out why in the Hell my buddies, including my sister the DD left me on the barroom floor.

There was no one there. In a bar, on a Saturday, during college football season. Alarms started going off in my brain at that thought. I looked around the bar and found clothes everywhere, not scattered around like someone said "Let's go streaking!" but in piles, like whoever was wearing them just blinked out of existence. After a the hangover induced fog cleared again, I realized that they belonged to all the bar patrons. My buddies. The bartender. The house band. Only two people were unaccounted for: my siblings.

Suffice it to say that those moments left me emotionally drained. At about two o'clock, I stepped out of the bar at last. Everything was eerily silent, only the wind and my footsteps made any noise. I called out for anyone for a good twelve minutes, and eventually people started calling back. All in all, I met five survivors that day, myself and various pets not included. We stayed in town for a few months, until we started running low on food, and decided to head for Denver, the largest city we could get to with our supplies. Six days later, we released all the pets and started the three day long drive.

"Well?" The black haired girl asked, looking at the tanned, scarred person in front of her.

"They're heading southwest..." He growled, fang-like teeth barred in frustration

"Told ya so." She sing-songed, "Alright people, you can't expect our prey to come to us, let's go!" The girl called out of the van to the listening cars, "Get a move on, they won't be going too fast in this snow!"

I know it doesn't reveal jack @#$% about why almost everyone stopped existing, but that's the point, I know what happened, but no one else does or else noobs might come along somehow magically knowing everything.

...Would you believe that I've actually been doing exactly that for the last week or so, because I simply thought it was a neat idea after writing that blurb?

Obviously it wouldn't survive long as a RP, considering it's a little complex to keep a handle on, but it's rather easy to format as a story.

So this idea has been floating around in my head for awhile now; what do you all think of it? Basically it's a Yu-Gi-Oh based RP where people can tap into powers hidden inside the cards themselves. It's somewhat similar to an RP I joined when I first came to this site, but instead of fighting each other all the time, the characters will instead focus on surviving various situations they are thrown into and growing in power to achieve whatever goals they have in mind. Not sure if it will last long enough so that the characters will reach their full potential, but I'm going to try.

Anyway, Comments, suggestions, things to clear up, etc. I want to be ready for when I throw this out there so that the RP doesn't die.
For those who live in areas such as Domino City, Duel Monsters have become so pervasive that it is a part of the framework that holds their very society together. There are few places in the world, however, where this card game is merely a fun pastime, one of many. Even there, the mystical properties of Duel Monsters are still strong, as we will soon see...

The Story So Far

The Evasen Islands, three islands lying in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, are a autonomous state, who got by even though contact with the outside world was practically non-existent in the past. Tradition stated that no one is allowed to leave the islands, and even travelers must not stay longer than three days, else they would have to leave, as well. About sixty years ago, the Evasen Islands opened themselves to global trade in commerce, throwing that tradition out the window, despite the complaints of the elders. Now, the inhabitants of the islands have many modern conveniences, and the government is funded by its tourism industry; the islands being popular for its tropical beaches, breathtaking sights, and calming atmosphere.

When trade was allowed on the island, Duel Monsters cards were explicitly prohibited by the government. The elders felt that the cards were dangerous to have on the island. In order to keep the peace on the island, the leaders conceded that point, and forbade the card game on the island. While duelists had a hard time leaving their cards behind, the Evasen Islands became known as the place to go when one is tired of the rigors of competitive and serious dueling. Still, Kaiba Corp and Industrial Illusions continued to pressure the islands to legalize Duel Monsters, though as long as the old elders lived, the game continued to be outlawed. When the last one died two years ago, the leaders gave in and allowed Duel Monsters to be sold and played; as long as holograms was not involved. The idea was to keep the relaxed image the islands had; simulated holographic battles were associated with competitive duels, after all.

Asteri Island, one of the three Evasen islands, was the only island not used for tourism. Duel Monster cards have been trickling down into here, and have become fairly popular since they were introduced. Rumor has it that there are certain people on this island who can bring the cards to life, known as 'Summoners'. Like Psychic Duelists, they make the card come into reality, but there are many differences between the two. In addition, it is said that if a Summoner shows off their power to others, they will soon die. Summoners are real, though they keep their power secret from normal people due to the death rumor. However, soon their existence will become known to all on the island...

Summoning Cards

Cards used by summoners are known as Summoning Cards, and the back of these cards are gray and black, instead of brown and black. Not all cards can be used by a summoner; some are just plain cards that are only good for dueling. Each summoning card can only be activated by the summoner who activated it first, unless he or she dies. A summoner can only activate one card at a time. There are currently two known types of cards, detailed here.

Spirit Cards - "I Summon Skull Servant!"

Spirit Cards house a duel spirit, which the summoner can call upon anytime. The spirit emerges from the card when the summoner calls their name. The duel spirit can then interact with the environment, and even use its unique abilities. However, the spirit cannot stray too far from the card it was summoned from. If the spirit is damaged too much, it will revert to card form, where it will stay until it recovers.

Fusion Cards - "I fuse with Elemental Hero Clayman!"

Fusion Cards, when activated by calling their name, will vanish, while transforming the summoner. The summoner, while still somewhat recognizable. will take on some of the traits and capabilities of the monster depicted on the card. This allows the summoner to participate in the fights directly, as opposed to the Spirit user's indirect role. The more power the fusion grants to the summoner, the less time the fusion will last. After the fusion, the time required before the summoner can fuse with that card again varies, with the more powerful ones needed longer.

Alright, here's the thing. I've been thinking about a new RPG, with a very simple concept- Standard Fantasy Setting... about a thousand-or-so years later.

It's not futuristic, definitely a modern-day setting, but assuming the usual World of Dragons and Magic was the equivalent of the middle ages to us. Magic still exists, but it serves mainly as a power source to convert into electricity, which is more reliable and more efficient. The world is still mainly controlled by monarchies, but in this day and age, most are now either simply symbolic leaders to compliment a more democratic system, or totalitarian dictators.

the usual Fantasy Races still exist, though their positions are somewhat changed. The highlights include:

Dragons are nearly extinct and now serve as MIB/guns-for-hire to the various governments by taking the shape of humans who draw power from their sunglasses (yes, really). They like technology, but it has a habit of blowing up around them, so they just fight with their bare fists.

Elves became recluses in their small country with the advent of technology, shunning most of the inside world by genetically modifying guards around their land- Most of the ones who immigrate out and integrate themselves into civilized society become Doctors... and ninjas (at the same time, of course), that can manipulate genes.

I have a couple ideas for other ideas, but the main idea is that random people from the various races (with unorthodox methods of combat- not a single sword to be found, for example) end up fighting in a Prophecized Tournament with a reward nobody knows about, for a reason nobody knows about.

I also had another idea of somehow getting an RPG in which the main enemy are sentient viruses, in the same fashion as Trauma Center. I was thinking of merging it with the above idea, but I've been having some additional thoughts about it that I think I can work with...

Interesting concept of aging a fantasy setting. You should include sentient clockwork machines who got their sentience from magic or something like that. Maybe you could make them an opposite faction that lives alongside humans in dominance. As you appear to have said, every other basic mythical race is a minority among humans. It would be more interesting if machine beings are the other majority.

Will you be using a current map of Earth for the landmasses or will you develop your own lands?

My own lands. I found I couldn't find enough variety in countries in order to accurately depict the massive amounts of independent states I require, especially considering the average country is assumed to be rather small. That said, was rather appealing idea to use the kingdom of Brittannia, but I opted not to at the last moment.

Hmm...clockwork people. Seems like an interesting concept, though I'm trying to roll with the usual stereotypical fantasy races (Dwarves, gnomes, elves, etc...), to see how I can twist the usual mythologies to something entirely different in a modern-day position.

I'm also attempting to make all the various fighting styles of the races and people both interesting, strange, and Crazy Awesome. If there's a single sword to be found, I'll feel like I've failed. At the moment, I've got the Dragons fighting by using their pair of Sunglasses to supply magic for bare-fisted punches and karate-inspired physical techniques. Yes, in layman's terms, they're dragons who fight like monks and look like MIBs.

Elves get to be doctors and manipulate genes, assuming doing something with diseases or microbes or the like. They also get the benfeit of the stealth of a Ninja, allowing them to attack with biological weaponry while avoiding being crushed.

I'm still mulling about other things, but I'd at least like some ideas for the Dwarves, Orcs and some other race that I've forgotten. Possibly humans too. For whatever reason, I'm thinking a western theme for humans.

If you should require inspiration for a map, my game Civilization 4 could generate you realistic or strange earths.

Since every race has a unique trait for combat, I assume the humans' special trait is gunpowder. Dwarves could use tank-like mechs to fight up close with flamethrowers. The orcs could use magic and numbers.

Gunpowder seems slightly low-tech to be a simple human-trait. The RP assumes the technological status of modern-day, and thus, pretty much any advanced race would be at least able to understand how to make an explosion.

as for the Dwarves... that is a surprisingly awesome idea. Dwarves with Mechas. And Dakka. Lots and LOTS of Dakka... powered by magical Fuel Cells.

Let's see... humans can work off the Law of Conservation of Ninjitsu. By only using one gun and no effective armor, they're guarantied to maximize their luck, power, and resistance to being gunned down.

Hm, Orcs as magical mathematicians? It has value, but it's not nearly outlandish enough.... Ah! I got it! Magical mathematician sky pirates.

Maybe humans are much farther ahead in tech than modern day, like maybe they have stuff like fusion and mass cloning. Maybe humans' trait is mass produced biological soldiers, except they fight with deformed body parts. Maybe every clone has a different role. One has very powerful and large legs that carries objects and other soldiers. Every other soldier needs a transporter to carry it around. Soldier weapons can vary from firing spines from their eyes or breathing magical bullets onto their enemies. And maybe you should give humans nukes. Everyone knows we like our nukes.

I have a few ideas for RPs.

The first is a Yu-Gi-Oh! RP that takes place in the Alpha Centauri system, and will try to get rid of this obsession with Duel Academies and Signers.

The second is a Gurren Lagann RP that is set a few years after the end of the series.

The third is an Avatar: the Last Airbender RP that has a simiar vein to the Gurren Lagann RP in terms of its setting.

And I would love to help you with your RP concept, Blazinghdra. I'm good at building worlds.

Yu-Gi-Oh! Alpha Centauri seems a bit extreme, maybe just do Yu-Gi-Oh! In Space But Still Near Earth, or one set in the past?

Gurren Laggan... Can't comment, only saw the last three episodes

Last Airbender seems like it's gonna be done to death in a few months if it's not already done to death as is

And was that Shweet towards my RP idea? And if so, what am I missing?

"Shweet" was just a stylized "Sweet", as in it's good. I liked it.

What's wrong with Alpha Centauri? It removes any temptations to take this RP back to Neo Domino City.

ANY TEMPTATIONS!!!

I have had it with "Neo Domino" this, and "Neo Domino" that! I want a YGO RP set somewhere other than the usual locations!!!

I just wanted a head start on the A:tLA craze, that's all.

And Gurren Lagann is the sh*t, man!

Is it missing anything besides a catchy title?

Alpha Centauri is just... It's like dropping a nuke on a mugger. It'll get the job done but COME ON. Have it set in London and then make a rule that anyone that references that city gets a neg and banned.

Well, it better be unique, though knowing you that should pose minimal problems

The sh*t it may be but it's sh*t that I haven't seen

Also, make sure to include fakemon in your RP, it keeps it from being too stale and, to prevent a massive influx of Digimon lines used in the anime, make a rule that no two people can have the same Digimon and that no one can use a Digimon line from the anime (which is where fakemon would come in handy)

And, make sure that the Digimon are characters, not just living breathing weapons and have a unique Digivice at the very least, maybe make it different for each person so that the RPers need to use some creativity
