Tekken Ham
Well since Felix never really made that Pokemon tutoring thing for YCMers new to Pokemon, I figured I'll post an article on how to make a team. We'll start with an UNDERUSED TEAM, which is my current craving, OU is too boring for me and my favorite pokemon shine in UU, so let's start. Maybe Dark or Felix could do an OU one. OU is REALLY boring once you get into your groove. So, this team will be based around a Gallade sweep. Gallade, a former BL, dropped down to UU and is a huge threat to everyone in UU with a few counters that have similar walls. So let's start with him. Also, by the way, this WILL be a metagamed UU team meaning I'll be running the best of UU and no gimmicks, so if you don't enjoy bog standard UU, you can leave right now before you get bored. Anyway, Gallade's set will be:Gallade @ Lum BerrySteadfastAdamant (+ Atk, - SpA)252 Atk/ 252 Spe/ 6 Hp ~Swords Dance~Close Combat~Night Slash~Shadow Sneak Bog standard SD Gallade is boggy. Sets up and SD and proceeds to sweep, very straightforward. Lum Berry helps net a 2HKO and walls that think they can status you to stop you, stuff like Umbreon, some Spiritombs, etc. Swords Dance makes Gallade hit 766 attack, which is devastating. Close Combat for STAB, Night Slash for coverage, and Shadow Sneak for priority, simple eh? OH GOD IM BECOMING CANADIAN. Now I gotta drink milk out of a bag. Speaking of milk our next pokemon is... Registeel! Oh yeah, Registeel, another possible UU suspect and completely unrelated to milk. You thought I would say Miltank, you silly little person you! Registeel takes care of Swellow, Gallade's most common threat and counter. He also sets up Stealth Rocks, spreads Paralysis, and is annoying in general.Registeel @ LeftoversClear BodyCareful (+SpDef, -SpA)252 Hp/ 100 Atk/ 156 SpDef ~Rest~Iron Head~Thunder Wave~Stealth Rock Standard UU tank works wonders with his typing. The nazi monolith stops soooooooooooooooo much with this set and cripples everything else. Iron Head + TWave for Paraflinch, a devastating combo that keeps enemies from moving while the damage slowly accumulates. Stealth Rock is Stealth Rock, and is the dominant field condition for a reason. It breaks Sashes and destroys Flying types and makes 2HKO's into 0HKO's. Rest is Registeel's only recovery and makes people go FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU when they see it. Now then, we have come pretty slow guys, lets choose a speedy special attacker to balance out our attackers. Let's run another possible UU Suspect, Moltres!Moltres @ Life OrbPressureTimid Nature252 SpA / 4 Def / 252 Spe ~Fire Blast~Air Slash~Hidden Power Grass~Roost Yeah, umm Base 125 SpA with Roost and some huge attacks, means that Moltres is going to be messing with people alot. Fire Blast for STAB, Air Slash for more STAB, and HP Grass for Bulky waters. Roost provides some nice healing when those Stealth Rocks are getting you down with their damage. Moltres also covers Registeel's weaknesses perfectly and complements him. With the addition of Moltres, pure bulky Waters like Milotic will rain on our parade, so let's add a pokemon that can take care of it AND help our team out.Tangrowth @ LeftoversChlorophyllImpish (+Def, - SpA)252 Hp/ 228 Def/ 28 Spe ~Sleep Powder~Leech Seed~Knock Off~Power Whip This set is a perfect bulky water counter bar random Ice Beams. Sleep Powder shuts down counters while Leech Seed helps Tangrowth last longer and hurt Milotics. Knock Off takes away Leftovers recovery while also batting away choice items and Life Orbs to weaken their users. Power Whip provides an attack to the spaghetti monster and hurts Waters dead. Still, Fire Attacks can rip through this team, especially opposing Moltres, so let's fix that by adding a Water type to complete a Fire-Grass-Water synergy circle that provides resistances galore. We still lack a physical revenge killer and an answer to fast and furious fire types like Moltres and possibly Ninetales with a Nasty Plot up. We also need something that can bat away Scarf Rotoms with ease. Enter Choice Band Azumarill, another favorite of mine and an amazing pokemon. Azumarill @ Choice BandHuge PowerAdamant(+Atk, -SpA)240 Hp/ 252 Atk/ 16 Spe ~Aqua Jet~Waterfall~Superpower~Double-Edge Huge Power doubles Azumarill's Atk Stat while the Choice Band multiplies his Atk by 1.5 giving Azumarill massive Atk. With its natural bulk, this set aims to cause huge damage and take out speedy but fragile threats. Aqua Jet is a priority STAB move while Waterfall is a stronger and slower STAB move. Superpower is a super powerful and gives Azumarill an answer to Normal types and Steels. And finally Double-Edge adds coverage since almost nothing resists Water/Normal in UU. Now then, we have two revenge killers with a speedy mid-game threat and a priority user with power rivaling Scizor. We have two Walls that wall things to death, spread status, and disrupt your opponent. We have a broken late-game sweeper that comes in the end and ends the game. We are missing a lead. Many leads come to mind now, but there's one pokemon I want to use. Uxie @ Light ClayLevitateImpish(+Def, -SpA)252 Hp/ 180 Def/ 76 Spe ~Reflect~Light Screen~Memento~U-Turn Wow, just wow. In case if you don't know, Memento lowers a pokemon's Atk and SpA stats by two levels, which cuts it in half while Reflect and Light Screen cut physical and special move damage in half respectively. So this means a QUADRUPLE DECREASE IN BOTH ATTACKING STATS and a free switch into Gallade to start messing with people. But that's a late-game thing, early game this guy sets up both screens and runs away while your opponent has to stare down Moltres or a wall that seem invulnerable behind the screens. Late-Game this guy can come back, set up the screens, and die, giving Gallade the perfect set-up for the perfect crime with a free SD against a probably weakened team. Anyway, the strategy here is to lead with Uxie, go into Registeel and set up Rocks, and then use Azumarill and Moltres to wreck your opponent's teams while Registeel and Tangrowth spread status and weaken their team further. When all is said and done, Gallade will come in after Uxie and proceed to destroy your opponent. So a final glance: And I hope you enjoyed learning how to add synergy and flavor to your UU team by copying my demo team! Enjoy, and yes, you can use this team and improve it. Art from Arkeis.com, I take no credit for these and I am simply using them to enhance my article on pokemon. Sprites are from pokemonelite200.com. There is a lot of synergy in this team and later I'll update the synergy chart, but for now I gotta go, see you next time pokemon trainers of YCM! And someone should REALLY do an OU one because I don't like OU that much anymore.
Flame Dragon
I want to say that this should be in the pokemon thread, but to maybe remove some of the common talk to a more orginized place I'll let this stay open and have it become the offical team building center. I might help by making a guide for OU later.
